From his father he found an appreciation of music, and from his mother an love of learning and the beauty of the countryside about his home. Due to his poor health, Hardy did not start school until he was eight. At 16, Hardy helped his father with architectural (建筑学的) drawings and then started to work for architects. Later he moved to London and began writing poems, but his works were not accepted by publishers. In 1870, he was sent to work in Cornwall. There he met his future wife Emma Gifford, who encouraged him in his writing. Hardy published his first novel Desperate Remedies in 1871. to public disinterest. But the following year Under the Greenwood Tree brought Hardy popular praise for the first time. As with most of his fictional works, this novel incorporated real places around Dorset, such as the village school that Hardy attended and the library he used to go. After Under the Greenwood Tree came A Pair of Blue Eyes. Once more Hardy drew on real life, and the novel mirrors his romance with Emma. Hardy followed this with Far from the Madding Crowd, set in Puddletown, near his birthplace. This novel finally brought Hardy the success that enabled him to give up his architectural practice and concentrate only on writing. The Hardys lived in London for a short time, then in Yeovil, then in Sturminster Newton, which Hardy described as “idyllic (田园诗般的)”. It was at Sturminster Newton that he penned The Return of the Native, one of his most enduring (持久的) works. In 1887, Hardy published The Woodlanders, a story about an honest woodsman in a small village. Then in 1891 one of his best works, Tess of the d’Urbervilles, came out, which was set mainly in the English countryside during the 19th century. Tess excited interest, but his next work, Jude the Obscure (1895), threw Hardy into a storm of controversy (争议), which made him turn away from fiction and focus on poetry for the rest of his life. 4. What do we know about Hardy? A. His writing started with poems. B. His wife Emma shared his interest. C. He was into drawing as a young man. D. He got fame at the first attempt of writing 5. What is closest in meaning to the underlined word “incorporated” in paragraph 3? A. Removed. B. Included. C. Changed. D. Ignored. 6. After which novel was Hardy fully devoted to writing? A. Jude the Obscure. B. A Pair of Blue Eyes. C. Tess of the d’Urbervilles. D. Far from the Madding Crowd. 7. What is the common element in most of Hardy’s novels? A. Campus life. B. Marriage life. C. Life in London. D. Life in the countryside. C When planning my wedding. I was determined not to get caught up in the “perfect day”, but to have a relaxed, informal celebration. My husband and I ended up having a lovely time. “Pursuit (追求) of perfection is a prison,” says Moya Sarner, an NHS psychotherapist (心理医生). Many of us are driven by the unconscious (下意识的) wish that if we could just have the perfect body, the perfect job and the perfect family, then we would be happy. For that reason, it can get in the way to happiness in life. The psychoanalyst Donald Winnicott wrote about the importance of the “good enough mother” who meets her baby’s needs timely, but is not perfect. He said perfect is harmful. To meet every need immediately, whenever it is demanded, slows down a baby’s growth, robbing them of the opportunity to feel disappointed and learn to get the toy for themselves. Winnicott believed that while perfection is not a good thing, acceptance of imperfection is. If we cannot develop the ability to accept imperfection in ourselves and in those around us, we can have no self-confidence, no sustainable relationships and no fulfilling career. If we’re always trying to build a perfect life, we aren’t really living the one we’re in. How do I know all this? I am a perfectionist in recovery. I’ve started to recognize my pursuit of perfection has influenced my relationship and my parenting. How can you be a good partner if you expect everyone else to fit your own narrow expectations? How can your child grow if they sense that they always need to color precisely inside the lines you’ve drawn out for them? We need to go further than accepting imperfections. We need to learn to appreciate their humanity and beauty. Imperfections are why people will pay a calligrapher to handwrite invitations when a computer can produce a perfect version of the same invitation for less money and in less time. So for a more delicious life, and ultimately a better one, I choose imperfectionism. 8. How does the author introduce the topic? A. By presenting a successful life. B. By showing her firm determination. C. By describing her personal experience D. By introducing her perfect marriage. 9. What can we learn from the example of the “good enough mother”? A. Raising a child brings a mother much joy. B. Pursuing perfection is the duty of mothers. C. Meeting babies’ demands is very challenging D. Quick responses are not good for babies’ growth. 10. What is the function of the two questions at the end of Paragraph 5? A. To attract interest. B. To lead to the topic. C. To encourage thinking. D. To make assumptions. 11. Which of the following might the author agree with? A. Close enough is good enough. B. A miss is as good as a mile. C. A wise head makes a close mouth. D. Actions speak louder than words. D Electric vehicles (EVs) are a strong weapon in the world’s efforts against global warming. But the effects of EVs depend on what country you are in. In some nations, electric vehicles lead to the release of more carbon gasses than gasoline cars, new research shows. The Radiant Energy Group (REG) compared gas emissions caused by a gasoline vehicle and from charging an electric vehicle. The study compared the emissions (排放) caused by charging a Tesla Model 3 to drive 100 kilometers with the emissions coming from an average gasoline car driven the same distance. Countries where charging an electric vehicle is cleaner than driving a gasoline-powered car use a lot of hydroelectric, nuclear or solar power. Sales of electric cars are rising the fastest in Europe. Data from REG suggests that EVs in Poland and Kosovo actually create more carbon emissions because their electric systems depend so much on coal. In other European countries, however, EVs result in reduced emissions. The carbon gas reduction depends on what energy supplies electricity systems and the time of day vehicles are charged. The countries with the biggest carbon gas savings from EVs use a lot of nuclear and hydroelectric power. An EV driver in Germany reduces greenhouse gas emissions by 55 percent over a gasoline car. Germany uses a mix of renewable energy and coal to produce electricity. Germany and Spain create a lot of electricity from the sun and wind. But the sun and wind do not add to a country’s electricity system equally throughout the day. For this reason, the amount of carbon emissions saved by driving an EV depends on the time of day it is being charged. Charging in the afternoon, when there is more sun and wind, saves 16 to 18 percent more carbon than at night when electricity systems are more likely to be using gas or coal. Automakers including General Motors, Stellantis and Volkswagen have set targets to sell mainly electric vehicles in Europe in the coming years. U. S. car manufacturer General Motors said it will have all new electric cars by 2022. 12. We can learn from Para. 8 that ________. A. the availability of charging stations is the key factor in EV adoption B. the cost of EVs is the most significant barrier to their widespread adoption C. the time of day when EVs are charged can greatly affect their carbon footprint D. the type of battery used in EVs has a big impact on their overall carbon emissions 13. According to REG’s study, what caused the different results in carbon emission? A. The limited coverage of national power system. B. The different energy sources for EV charging. C. The varying time of day when EVs are sold. D. The lack of charging stations in rural areas. 14. What’s the attitude of automakers like General Motors towards EVs? A. Unconcerned. B. Supportive. C. Doubtful. D. Puzzled. 15. What’s the best title for the passage? A. The Global Shift to Electric Vehicle Adoption. B. The Economics of Electric Vehicle Ownership C. The Future of Renewable Energy in Automobiles. D. The Environmental Impact of Electric Vehicle Charging. Growing up, I found the word Saturday almost meant cleaning in my family. Below our flat, my family ran a bakery. My mother named me after the street: Pearl Wong. A typical Chinese-style mum, my mother often reminded me of the importance of being outstanding. “Be number one, or be nothing,” she demanded in broken English. She would check my report cards and frown at anything lower than an A. At a holiday party my brother received a chess set, missing a pawn (卒) and a knight (马). My mother dismissed it as unwanted junk, but we were fascinated, especially me. “Why can't they move more steps?” “Why do they go cross ways to take other men?” I had so many questions. My mother patted the flour off her hands. “Let me see book,” she said. “Ah. Don't know why? You find out yourself.” So I read and memorized the rules, studied the moves, and practiced endlessly. Soon, I was beating my brothers. With every game, my chess improved, my wins grew, and my hunger for victory deepened. I started entering tournaments and winning trophies (奖杯). My mother became my biggest supporter—but in her own way. She pushed me to win every game and displayed every trophy in the bakery window. I asked her several times not to do so but she insisted. Soon, the cakes were surrounded by rows of shining trophies. “This my daughter, Pearl,” she would tell others, her voice full of pride. But the more she showed me off, the more I felt trapped, as if I were no longer playing for myself, as if I were her trophy. One Saturday in Chinatown, my mother paraded (招摇过市) me through the stores, without making a purchase. “This my daughter, Pearl Wong, Chinatown chess champion,” she announced. The shopkeepers, with forced smiles, looked at us with an obviously growing impatience. Yet, she went on and on, totally ignoring my burning eyes. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ When I finally returned to the bakery, my mother was putting away the trophies. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$ 2024-2025学年度高一年级第二学期教学质量调研(二) 英语试题 注意事项: 1. 1. The Hardys lived in London for a short time, then in Yeovil, then in Sturminster Newton, which Hardy described as “idyllic (田园诗般)”. 4. 故选A。 根据第三段中“As with most of his fictional works, this novel incorporated real places around Dorset, such as the village school that Hardy attended and the library he used to go. 根据第四段“Hardy followed this with Far from the Madding Crowd, set in Puddletown, near his birthplace. This novel finally brought Hardy the success that enabled him to give up his architectural practice and concentrate only on writing. 根据第三段中“As with most of his fictional works, this novel incorporated real places around Dorset, such as the village school that Hardy attended and the library he used to go. (和大多数他的小说作品一样,这部小说包含多塞特郡周围的真实地点,比如哈代上过的乡村学校和他常去的图书馆)”、第五段中“It was at Sturminster Newton that he penned The Return of the Native, one of his most enduring (持久的) works. Then in 1891 one of his best works, Tess of the d’Urbervilles, came out, which was set mainly in the English countryside during the 19th century. D。 C When planning my wedding. C 9. D 10. C 11. 根据第一段“When planning my wedding. I was determined not to get caught up in the “perfect day”, but to have a relaxed, informal celebration. My husband and I ended up having a lovely time.(在计划我的婚礼时,我决心不陷入“完美的一天”这种观念,而是举办一场轻松、非正式的庆祝活动。 根据第三段“To meet every need immediately, whenever it is demanded, slows down a baby’s growth, robbing them of the opportunity to feel disappointed and learn to get the toy for themselves.(无论何时,只要有需求就立即满足,这会减缓婴儿的成长,剥夺他们感受失望并学会自己获取玩具的机会)” 可知,从“足够好的母亲” 的例子中可得知,快速回应婴儿需求不利于其成长。 根据第五段“How can you be a good partner if you expect everyone else to fit your own narrow expectations? How can your child grow if they sense that they always need to color precisely inside the lines you’ve drawn out for them?(如果你期望其他人都符合你狭隘的期望,你怎么能成为一个好伴侣呢? 通读全文,并根据最后一段“We need to go further than accepting imperfections. We need to learn to appreciate their humanity and beauty. Imperfections are why people will pay a calligrapher to handwrite invitations when a computer can produce a perfect version of the same invitation for less money and in less time. So for a more delicious life, and ultimately a better one, I choose imperfectionism.(我们不能仅仅满足于接受不完美,还需学会欣赏其中的人性与美好。 A。 D Electric vehicles (EVs) are a strong weapon in the world’s efforts against global warming. C The varying time of day when EVs are sold. 12. C 13. B 14. B 15. The most alarming is the 90% sleep shortage rate among teens in 2024, mainly due to heavy schoolwork. Despite efforts to reduce homework, students still sacrifice sleep for grades. This bad cycle worsens health issues. Immediate action is needed. My mother named me after the street: Pearl Wong. A typical Chinese-style mum, my mother often reminded me of the importance of being outstanding. “Be number one, or be nothing,” she demanded in broken English. She would check my report cards and frown at anything lower than an A. At a holiday party, my brother received a chess set, missing a pawn (卒) and a knight (马). ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】Yet, she went on and on, totally ignoring my burning eyes. I was so angry that I wanted to scream at her. But I knew it would be useless. So I walked off quickly, leaving her talking with others. I wandered aimlessly through the streets, not knowing where to go. After a long time, I found myself in front of a chess shop. The chess sets in the window were so attractive that I couldn’t help but stare at them. How I wished I could have one of them! When I finally returned to the bakery, my mother was putting away the trophies. She looked at me with a sad expression. “Pearl, you must be hungry. I’ve prepared your favorite food.” I didn’t answer, just sitting there staring at the floor. “I'm sorry, Pearl,” she said in a low voice. “I shouldn’t have shown you off like that. It’s because I love you so much and I’m so proud of you.” Hearing this, I burst into tears. “Mom, I’m sorry too. I shouldn’t have left you alone. You’re always doing your best for me. ” We hugged each other tightly. 词汇激活 行为类 ①尖叫:scream/shout/yell ②游荡:wander/roam ③盯着看:stare at/gaze at 情绪类 ①愤怒:angry/annoyed ②悲伤:sad/sorrowful 【点睛】[高分句型1] I was so angry that I wanted to scream at her.(使用了“so...that...
