I'm bob kenyon, and I will be responsible for this team's progress from now on. I know some of you will be feeling quite nervous, so i'd just like to say a few words to clear the air before we start. I want you all to know that everybody here today is now being given a fresh start. Whatever happened previously will not affect how you are treated by me or by my associates. You are starting with a clean sheet. The second thing I want to impress on you is that you can and will win matches. I know you haven't won many over the past few years. I don't know the reason, and we certainly can't be satisfied with that situation continuing. I have watched videos of you playing, and I know that you have the talent to win. You just need to believe that, and you really need to believe in yourselves. I'll say that once again, you are talented players and you have what IT takes to succeed. I want you to think about something my old team manager told me when I was a player too many years ago. He said, whether you think you can or whether you think you can't, you're right. The choice is up to you, so get out there and win some games. Hello, and welcome, everybody. I'm bob kenyon, and I will be responsible for this team's progress from now on. I had always been fascinated by the use of natural treatments in healthcare. So, when I came across a local clinic that offered courses in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) several months ago, I immediately signed up for a one-year course.
On the first day of class, I was looking forward to what I was going to learn. As the instructor explained the procedure, I felt a little disturbed by the thought of needles being stuck into my skin. However, I was determined to overcome my fear. Acupuncturist uses hair-thin needles to find specific areas on the body to treat pain or tension the body may be experiencing, known to help with depression, insomnia (失眠) and anxiety. The instructor told us that an acupuncturist might request patients to provide more information about their health, how to treat them, and what points are most appropriate for them. We were taught how to examine a patient’s tongue and pulse to gather evidence of any imbalances in the body. He showed us how to adjust the needle’s depth, as different organs required different depths. The needles were only a few millimetre thick and made of stainless steel, so they were solid and easy to switch out.
In class, we also learned about the phenomenon of acupuncture anesthesia (麻醉) where patients could undergo surgery without conventional anesthesia using only acupuncture. As we progressed through the course, we learned about herbs and their uses. We also discussed the effects of substances such as alcohol, tobacco, and drugs on the body and how they could lead to severe anxiety and abuse.
TCM dates back to ancient China, and it is a widespread practice today. It is fascinating to learn about the symbolism behind each organ and how they relate to different emotions and imbalances in the body. After a year of wrestling with the course, I have now graduated and put everything in place. Without doubt, it has been one of the most fulfilling experiences in my life.
24. What made the author decide to sign up for a TCM course?
A. His worries about health problems. B. His interest in natural treatments.
C. An accidental visit to a local clinic. D. The increasing knowledge of TCM.
25. What did the instructor mainly teach in the first class?
A. The development of acupuncture. B. The way to perform acupuncture.
C. The requirement for an acupuncture. D. The various tools used in acupuncture.
26. How does the author feel about acupuncture after graduating from the course?
A. Easy. B. Complicated. C. Advanced. D. Worthy.
27. What can be a suitable title for the text?
A. An encounter with TCM. B. A modern change in TCM.
C. A course to improve my fitness. D. A special acupuncture treatment.

Languages like Italian or Finnish can be spelled more easily because each letter of the alphabet matches to one sound. Students studying these languages can have 90 percent reading accuracy after the first year. However, students even after years of learning English are still far below Italian or Finnish students in reading accuracy.
English started as a Germanic language. It is most closely connected to German and Dutch, especially in grammar and basic vocabulary. During the Norman invasion (侵略) in the 12th century, Old English was spoken but French was used in government and legal documents. And Latin was used in religious and educational activities. As a result, more French and Latin words entered the English language. The printing press invented in the late 1400s helped to establish English spelling. The English of today is how the language was written at the time. However, the spoken language started to change in the 1500s with the pronunciation of all long vowels. For example, “bite” was pronounced closer to “beet” in 1400, before changing through the years to its current sound. The effect was that the English language had old spellings, but new sounds.
English has 26 letters in the alphabet, but over 44 individual sounds depending on the variation of spoken English. There are several sounds represented by only one letter. For example, the letter “C” can sound like an “S” as in “city”. And it also sounds like a “K” as in “cat”.
There are only 5 or 6 vowel (元音) letters in the English alphabet. They include A, E, I, O, U, and sometimes Y. But there are 20 different ways to sound them. At the centre is the most common vowel sound of “uhhh”. It is the most relaxed and natural sound. It takes almost no effort of the tongue or throat to create the sound. Since it takes little effort, the sound “uhhh” often makes its way into pronunciations. For example, the word “please” often turns into “PUH-lease” when someone is trying to call attention. This is another reason why spelling in English is so difficult!

Meteorites (陨石) can offer clues about what the early solar system was like. But finding them is far from difficult. Now, some scientists are turning to drones (无人机) and machine learning to help spot freshly fallen meteorites much more efficiently. “A team of six people on a meteorite-hunting expedition can search about 200,000 square meters per day,” says Seamus Anderson, a planetary scientist in Australia.
Around 2016, Anderson began toying with the concept of using drones to take pictures of the g round to look for meteorites. That idea blossomed into a Ph.D. project. In 2022, he and his colleagues reported their first successful recovery of a meteorite spotted with a drone. They’ve since found four more meteorites at a different site. Drone-based searches are much faster than the standard search way. “You’re going from about 300 days of human effort down to about a dozen or so,” he says.
Anderson and his workmates have used drones to search for meteorites in remote parts of Western Australia and South Australia. The team is tipped off about a fall site by networks of ground-based cameras that track meteoroids flashing through the Earth’s atmosphere. The researchers have to do a series of fun but difficult work before the hunt. They pack a four-wheel drive vehicle with drone and computer equipment, battery charging stations, generators, fuel, food, camping equipment, tables, chairs and much more. The drive to the fall site can take more than a day, often on rough or nonexistent roads. Anderson says, “You hope you don’t pop a tire.”
After arriving, the team flies its primary drone at an altitude of about 20 meters. Its camera takes an image of the ground once every second, and the scientists download the data every 40 minutes or so when the drone lands to receive fresh batteries. A typical day of flying can net over 10,000 images, which are then divided digitally into 100 million or so smaller sections. Those “tiles”, each 2 meters on a side, are fed into a machine learning algorithm (算法) that has been trained to recognize meteorites based on images of real land rocks which are spray-painted black.
32. Why do the scientists study meteorites?
A. To spot the planetary course. B. To promote machine learning.
C. To test the functions of drones. D. To explore the past of solar system.
33. What does Anderson say about drone-based searches in paragraph 2?
A. Their barriers. B. Their causes.
C. Their efficiency. D. Their concept.
34. Which words can best describe the preparations of the drone search for meteorites?
A. Fun and light. B. Smooth and flexible.
C. Difficult and unpleasant. D. Complicated and tough.
35. How does the drone process images?
A. By dividing them in half. B. By storing them for analysis.
C. By combining them into a picture. D. By linking them with a digital printer.

第二节(满分25分)
(原创)67. 阅读下面材料, 根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段, 使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Last week, frozen cookie dough saved me from myself.
It all started when the new neighbor, a college student, left a beer-pong table on his front lawn. Beer pong is a game where you toss balls into cups of beer to make opponents (对手) drink.
I used to live near a university—the games would go on all night. The best we could do was move to a quieter part of town, which we did at great expense. And now, here was this guy, placing a new beer-pong table within full view of my new kitchen window.
I don’t want to upset people, but when I saw that beer-pong table, it reminded me of loud, drunk college students—and it made me so angry that I forgot my own rule: all neighbors deserve respect.
So I walked right up to the student’s house, past that stupid table, knocked on the door and told him that it had to go. I expected him to apologize. Instead, he got just as mad as I was.
“What gives you the right to make such a ridiculous demand?” he asked.
His fighting back made me even angrier. I was screaming madly, which surprised myself. Then I felt a pat on my arm: my husband. He pulled me away, and I shouted at the kid, “This isn’t done.”
I stayed mad all day. But the next morning, I woke up feeling awful. Why didn’t other women get angry like me? Why can’t I just let things go? Why can’t I focus on being happy instead of proving I’m right?
I’ve always struggled with these same self-critical thoughts. Just weeks ago, I hurt a friend’s feelings with a careless remark and upset my teenage son by criticizing his messy room—all in one afternoon. I felt terrible, like I was destroying everything around me.
注意:1.续写词数应为150左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
So I made my famous peanut butter chocolate cookies.

第一节
Aimed at helping the students from poverty-stricken areas, the Student Union launched a grand Charity Sale last Friday at our school’s stadium, which witnessed the kindness and generosity of all the students and teachers present.
As scheduled, the activity began at 3:00 p.m., lasting three hours. What came first was a moving speech delivered by a volunteer, mirroring the authentic life of the needy students and kindling the kindness. What subsequently followed was the exciting sales section where many second-hand items, ranging from electronic devices to old fancy clothes, were sold at a pretty low price. So enthusiastic were our schoolmates and teachers that all goods were snapped up within hours. All the money raised would be sent to the Red Cross and distributed to those needy students.
This Charity Sale proved successful and meaningful. Not only did we students promote our social responsibilities, but we also understood every bit of our kindness could pile up enormous strength.
第二节 (满分25分)
One possible version:
So I made my famous peanut butter chocolate cookies. Then I walked what felt like miles across the street to the kid’s doorstep, right past the beer-pong table. The student opened the door wearing a white T-shirt, his dark hair shiny and wild. I offered the plate with one hand, the other pressed to my chest. I told him that the person he met yesterday—the one with the pointing finger—wasn’t me. At least, it wasn’t the person I wanted to be. “Would you please forgive me?” I asked.
He looked down at the plate. For one horrible moment, I pictured him slapping it from underneath, sending cookies across the yard. Instead, his face softened. “The person you met at my door yesterday hadn’t been me, either. I am sorry, too, and could we try this again?” he said. “Of course,” I replied, and passed the plate of peanut butter chocolate chip cookies over, my hands shaking. Then he closed the door and I walked back across the street, feeling like I’d witnessed a miracle.

I had always been fascinated by the use of natural treatments in healthcare. So, when I came across a local
clinic that offered courses in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) several months ago, I immediately signed up
for a one-year course.
On the first day of class, I was looking forward to what I was going to learn. As the instructor explained the
procedure, I felt a little disturbed by the thought of needles being stuck into my skin. However, I was determined
to overcome my fear. Acupuncturist uses hair-thin needles to find specific areas on the body to treat pain or
tension the body may be experiencing, known to help with depression, insomnia (失眠) and anxiety. The instructor

told us that an acupuncturist might request patients to provide more information about their health, how to treat
them, and what points are most appropriate for them. We were taught how to examine a patient’s tongue and pulse
to gather evidence of any imbalances in the body. He showed us how to adjust the needle’s depth, as different
organs required different depths. The needles were only a few millimetre thick and made of stainless steel, so they
were solid and easy to switch out.
In class, we also learned about the phenomenon of acupuncture anesthesia (麻醉) where patients could
undergo surgery without conventional anesthesia using only acupuncture. As we progressed through the course,
we learned about herbs and their uses. We also discussed the effects of substances such as alcohol, tobacco, and
drugs on the body and how they could lead to severe anxiety and abuse.
TCM dates back to ancient China, and it is a widespread practice today. It is fascinating to learn about the
symbolism behind each organ and how they relate to different emotions and imbalances in the body. After a year
of wrestling with the course, I have now graduated and put everything in place. Without doubt, it has been one of
the most fulfilling experiences in my life.

Languages like Italian or Finnish can be spelled more easily because each letter of the alphabet matches to
one sound. Students studying these languages can have 90 percent reading accuracy after the first year. However,
students even after years of learning English are still far below Italian or Finnish students in reading accuracy.
English started as a Germanic language. It is most closely connected to German and Dutch, especially in
grammar and basic vocabulary. During the Norman invasion (侵略) in the 12th century, Old English was spoken
but French was used in government and legal documents. And Latin was used in religious and educational
activities. As a result, more French and Latin words entered the English language. The printing press invented in
the late 1400s helped to establish English spelling. The English of today is how the language was written at the
time. However, the spoken language started to change in the 1500s with the pronunciation of all long vowels. For
example, “bite” was pronounced closer to “beet” in 1400, before changing through the years to its current sound.
The effect was that the English language had old spellings, but new sounds.
English has 26 letters in the alphabet, but over 44 individual sounds depending on the variation of spoken
English. There are several sounds represented by only one letter. For example, the letter “C” can sound like an “S”
as in “city”. And it also sounds like a “K” as in “cat”.
There are only 5 or 6 vowel (元音) letters in the English alphabet. They include A, E, I, O, U, and sometimes
Y. But there are 20 different ways to sound them. At the centre is the most common vowel sound of “uhhh”. It is
the most relaxed and natural sound. It takes almost no effort of the tongue or throat to create the sound. Since it
takes little effort, the sound “uhhh” often makes its way into pronunciations. For example, the word “please” often
turns into “PUH-lease” when someone is trying to call attention. This is another reason why spelling in English is
so difficult!
28. How does the author lead to the topic of this text?
A. By comparison. B. By making a classification.
C. By the calculation of an example. D. By describing a process.
29. What is paragraph 2 mainly about?
A. The complex history of English.
B. The formation of modern English.
C. The influence of English on other languages.
D. Factors promoting the development of English.
30. When did the current spelling of English come into being?
A. In the 12th century. B. Before the Norman invasion.
C. In the late 1400s. D. In the 1500s.
31. Which can be a suitable title for the text?
A. One Letter, Many Sounds
B. So Many Ways to Sound a Vowel
C. Why Spelling in English Is So Difficult
D. How to Improve the Accuracy of English Spelling

Meteorites (陨石) can offer clues about what the early solar system was like. But finding them is far from
difficult. Now, some scientists are turning to drones (无人机) and machine learning to help spot freshly fallen
meteorites much more efficiently. “A team of six people on a meteorite-hunting expedition can search about
200,000 square meters per day,” says Seamus Anderson, a planetary scientist in Australia.
Around 2016, Anderson began toying with the concept of using drones to take pictures of the g round to look
for meteorites. That idea blossomed into a Ph.D. project. In 2022, he and his colleagues reported their first
successful recovery of a meteorite spotted with a drone. They’ve since found four more meteorites at a different
site. Drone-based searches are much faster than the standard search way. “You’re going from about 300 days of
human effort down to about a dozen or so,” he says.
Anderson and his workmates have used drones to search for meteorites in remote parts of Western Australia
and South Australia. The team is tipped off about a fall site by networks of ground-based cameras that track
meteoroids flashing through the Earth’s atmosphere. The researchers have to do a series of fun but difficult work
before the hunt. They pack a four-wheel drive vehicle with drone and computer equipment, battery charging
stations, generators, fuel, food, camping equipment, tables, chairs and much more. The drive to the fall site can
take more than a day, often on rough or nonexistent roads. Anderson says, “You hope you don’t pop a tire.”
After arriving, the team flies its primary drone at an altitude of about 20 meters. Its camera takes an image of
the ground once every second, and the scientists download the data every 40 minutes or so when the drone lands
to receive fresh batteries. A typical day of flying can net over 10,000 images, which are then divided digitally into
100 million or so smaller sections. Those “tiles”, each 2 meters on a side, are fed into a machine learning
algorithm (算法) that has been trained to recognize meteorites based on images of real land rocks which are
spray-painted black.
32. Why do the scientists study meteorites?
A. To spot the planetary course. B. To promote machine learning.
C. To test the functions of drones. D. To explore the past of solar system.
33. What does Anderson say about drone-based searches in paragraph 2?
A. Their barriers. B. Their causes.
C. Their efficiency. D. Their concept.
34. Which words can best describe the preparations of the drone search for meteorites?
A. Fun and light. B. Smooth and flexible.
C. Difficult and unpleasant. D. Complicated and tough.
35. How does the drone process images?
A. By dividing them in half. B. By storing them for analysis.
C. By combining them into a picture. D. By linking them with a digital printer.

In the dynamic world of fitness, where treadmills (跑步机) hum and weights clink, an emerging concern for
sustainability is reshaping the gym experience. ____36____? In this guide, we’ll navigate through key aspects of
eco- conscious fitness to help you figure out if your gym is on the sustainable track.
●Energy-efficient equipment
A sustainable gym starts with the tools that push your workout. Modern fitness equipment is evolving beyond
the pursuit of personal records. ____37____. Energy- efficient machines, equipped with regenerative braking
systems and smart technology, employ the power generated during workouts to balance electricity consumption.
Look at the very tools that power your workout. Are the machines equipped with energy- efficient features?
Do they employ the energy generated during workouts to contribute back to the gym’s power needs?
●____38____
The infrastructure (基础设施) of a gym plays a crucial role in its sustainability journey. The use of eco-
friendly materials, energy- efficient lighting and strategic design for natural air circulation are key elements of a
green fitness space.
Explore the infrastructure of your gym. Does the overall design facilitate natural air circulation and use
sustainable construction practices?
●Waste management
As you are sweating it out at the gym, what happens to the waste generated? Sustainable fitness spaces
prioritise comprehensive waste management systems. ____39____.
Direct your attention to how your gym manages waste. Are there visible recycling programs for plastics,
paper and other common gym materials? Does the gym use eco- friendly cleaning products, demonstrating a
commitment to minimising its environmental impact?
● Renewable energy integration
____40____, but sustainable fitness facilities find innovative ways to employ renewable energy. Solar panels
and other renewable energy sources are integrated into the gym’s infrastructure to offset power consumption,
reducing the facility’s carbon footprint and contributing to a greener energy landscape.
Investigate whether your gym is tapping into renewable energy sources. Are there solar panels or wind
turbines integrated into the infrastructure?

第二节(满分 25 分)
(原创)67. 阅读下面材料, 根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段, 使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Last week, frozen cookie dough saved me from myself.
It all started when the new neighbor, a college student, left a beer-pong table on his front lawn. Beer pong is a
game where you toss balls into cups of beer to make opponents (对手) drink.
I used to live near a university—the games would go on all night. The best we could do was move to a quieter
part of town, which we did at great expense. And now, here was this guy, placing a new beer-pong table within full
view of my new kitchen window.
I don’t want to upset people, but when I saw that beer-pong table, it reminded me of loud, drunk college
students—and it made me so angry that I forgot my own rule: all neighbors deserve respect.
So I walked right up to the student’s house, past that stupid table, knocked on the door and told him that it
had to go. I expected him to apologize. Instead, he got just as mad as I was.
“What gives you the right to make such a ridiculous demand?” he asked.
His fighting back made me even angrier. I was screaming madly, which surprised myself. Then I felt a pat on
my arm: my husband. He pulled me away, and I shouted at the kid, “This isn’t done.”
I stayed mad all day. But the next morning, I woke up feeling awful. Why didn’t other women get angry like
me? Why can’t I just let things go? Why can’t I focus on being happy instead of proving I’m right?
I’ve always struggled with these same self-critical thoughts. Just weeks ago, I hurt a friend’s feelings with a
careless remark and upset my teenage son by criticizing his messy room—all in one afternoon. I felt terrible, like I
was destroying everything around me.
注意:1.续写词数应为 150 左右;

28. How does the author lead to the topic of this text?
A. By comparison. B. By making a classification.
C. By the calculation of an example. D. By describing a process.
29. What is paragraph 2 mainly about?

注意:1.续写词数应为150左右;

Hello and welcome everybody. I’m Bob Kenyon and I will be responsible for this team’s progress from now on. (18) I know some of you will be feeling quite nervous, so I’d just like to say a few words to clear the air. Before we start, I want you all to know that everybody here today is now being given a fresh start. Whatever happened previously will not affect how you are treated by me or by my associates. You are starting with a clean sheet. The second thing I want to impress on you is that you can and will win matches. I know you haven’t won many over the past few years. (19) I don’t know the reason, and we certainly can’t be satisfied with that situation continuing. I have watched videos of you playing and I know that you have the talent to win. You just need to believe that and you really need to believe in yourselves. I’ll say that once again. You are talented players and you have what it takes to succeed. I want you to think about something my old team manager told me when I was a player too many years ago. He said, “Whether you think you can, or whether you think you can’t, you’re right.” The choice is up to you. So get out there and win some games.

【答案】Aimed at helping the students from poverty-stricken areas, the Student Union launched a grand Charity Sale last Friday at our school’s stadium, which witnessed the kindness and generosity of all the students and teachers present.

第二节(满分25分)
