We were hitting the ball higher and faster. Suddenly, the ball went right through one of the upstairs windows. We looked around and nobody was in sight except an old man sitting on a porch(门廊) halfway. “What should we do?” I asked. My brother answered, “No one will know whose ball it is. No one saw us, except that old man. He probably can't see this far. Let's go home.” We picked up the rest of our balls and headed home. “What happened?” Mum asked. “Well,” my brother slowly began, “we had a great time until we hit the ball too hard and too high and it went right through the school window.” My mother said loudly, “You'll have to tell your father.” As soon as my father walked in the house, we hurried to him and told our story. He was composed and said, “Well, today is Saturday. On Monday, I'll call the school janitor(看门人) and see what we need to do.” We had two days to wait until our dad got home from work on Monday. He smiled, saying, “Well, I talked to the school janitor. He told me that he'd been sitting on his porch watching when you two were playing tennis. He said many windows had been broken, but we were the first ones to call. He said the school allows for window repair, so we won't have to pay for the window.” We discovered there's always someone who sees what we do and we might as well admit our mistakes. ( )24. C Middle school students in Valdosta are learning the importance of agriculture(农业). Joshua Dawson, a Lowndes County Extension agent, helped seventh grade students at J.L. Newbern Middle School build raised bed plant boxes to grow crops. Dawson's work with the school gardens began in 2014 as a part of the Valdosta School Garden and Orchard Project. Through support from local businesses and members of the community, it is used to introduce Valdosta elementary and middle school students to gardening and agriculture. Some of the crops grown in the gardens include sweet potatoes, carrots and so on. The harvested produce is used by the school dining rooms to serve during lunch and students are allowed to take produce home depending on the harvest size. Members of the local Master Gardener programme are helping Dawson with the gardens. With his daily responsibilities as a County Extension agent, Dawson depends heavily on their support. “Without the Master Gardeners, I don't know if any of this would be possible. They look after the gardens and work with the teachers closely, and provide necessary feet on the ground for a lot of things,” Dawson said. In the beginning, the students were worried about working in the garden, but Dawson said those doubts disappeared quickly. “I like watering the plants and working with the soil,” said Anthony Aikens, a seventh grader. Anthony said his favourite subject is science and wants to be a zoologist or a full-time gardener when he grows up. Dr Elena Ponder, principal of J.L. Newbern Middle School, said many students are interested in this project. She said working in the garden provides students with a cross-curriculum(交叉课程) where they use different skills to solve problems. “Once you plant a garden, you have to attend to that garden. That shows you have the work ethic(职业道德), patience and time to put into something. That will translate into skills they will need in the future jobs,” she said. ( )28. What does the project aim to do? A. To encourage students to take responsibility. B. To let students know more about agriculture. C. To improve the living conditions of students. D. What does Dr Elena Ponder say about the project for students? A. It helps them explore interests. B. It makes them value their spare time. C. It helps them concentrate in class. D. It promotes their future development. D Pixar's movie, Turning Red, is about puberty(青春期). We often think about puberty and the hard things it brings. Our bodies and feelings change in ways that can feel out of our control. Turning Red shows the importance of being true to oneself during this time. The film tells the story of Mei Lee, a 13-year-old Chinese student. She's got confidence and enjoys playing with her friends. However, she often hides her true self in front of her protective and strict mother. This all changes when Mei reaches puberty. She starts uncontrollably turning into a big red panda whenever she gets excited. With the help of her friends, Mei learns to be her confident, true self and accept the red panda inside her. The story is based on the childhood experiences of Domee Shi, the movie director. Those behind Turning Red reminded Asian viewers of their childhood. At the same time, they also wanted to avoid harmful stereotypes(刻板印象). For example, the filmmakers at first were concerned that a straight-A student could make the stereotype about Asian people deeper. However, they reflected on their own experiences. Growing up, they felt pressured to be A-students. They also had to deal with changes in their bodies and relationships. In the end, they decided to keep that in the story. “We always deal with the writing of these characters from their goals,” says Shi. At the same time, Shi points out that Mei is attracted by this new world, her friends, and everything that the red panda represents. This sudden change in her appearance represents the mess of growing up and all the feelings inside of us that we're taught at a young age to put away. Instead of quieting the “red panda” and keeping it inside, Shi wanted teens to accept their “red panda”. She wanted teens not to be ashamed of their feelings. People of all ages can understand Turning Red. “While we may not be becoming the best version of ourselves, it's our truer version,” she said. “It's not about being the best you can be,” she explained. “It's about being you as much as you can.” ( )32. What is Turning Red mainly about? A. A special friendship. B. A mother's reflection. C. A teenager's growth. D. A student's problem. ( )33. Why was Mei made an A-student at last? A. To call attention to academic struggles. B. To challenge popular assumption. C. To share true-life learning experiences. D. To set an example for teenagers. ( )34. Which may be Domee Shi's idea about Turning Red? A. Be brave to express oneself. B. Accept yourself as who you are. C. Be open to other's criticism. D. Deal with changes more calmly. ( )35. Every New Year, thousands decide they're going to change their lives. 36 Here are some common reasons why you're losing motivation.  Not Aiming High Enough While setting easy goals will keep you motivated, it may harm your long-term motivation. 37 If you are used to staying within your comfort zone, you'll be missing out on the satisfaction of achieving a life-changing goal. When you push yourself, you'll be able to build unshakable confidence as you crush goal after goal.  Letting Fear Control Your Mind And Actions Fear can prevent you from achieving your dreams. Instead of taking action and moving forward, you might get stuck where you are. You'll unavoidably miss out on career and self-improvement opportunities if you don't learn how to manage your fears. 38 One way to manage fear is to look for the root cause of your fear. With deep introspection(内省), you can uncover what exactly prevents your growth. This will give you an opportunity to communicate with your inner being.  Facing your fear is the only way you'll be able to become the best version of yourself. 39 Taking slow, thoughtful actions can have huge impacts on how you deal with your inside and outside world.  Unclear Vision Uncertainty about the future is a fear that many of us deal with. It can be paralyzing. Instead of taking action, we start worrying about “What if?”—“What if it doesn't work out? What if my dream isn't truly my dream? What if I don't succeed?” 40 On the contrary, you'll be driven to strive for excellence when you find your purpose and passion.  A. Fortunately, it can be overcome. B. You don't need to fix your problem overnight. C. You will find it hard to get started and stay focused. D. However, fewer than 10 per cent actually stick with their resolution. E. If you make goals that are too achievable, you'll get bored and lose interest. F. When you look around one day and you're living your dream, it'll all be worth it. G. If you have trouble creating a vision, then you're at risk of drifting aimlessly through life. 36. 37. 38. 39. 40.         第三部分 语言运用(共两节,满分30分) 第一节(共15小题;每小题1分,满分15分) 阅读下面短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。 When I was young, I liked writing. They always played and went home together. One day, Robert and Henry were going home from school. On turning a corner, Robert cried out, “A fight! Let's go and see!” “No,” said Henry. “Let us go home quietly and not meddle with(管闲事) this quarrel. We have nothing to do with it and may get into trouble. Also our parents are expecting to have dinner with us together and I don't want them to worry about us.” “You are a coward(懦夫), and afraid to go,” said Robert, and off he ran. Henry went straight home, and in the afternoon went to school as usual. But Robert had told all the boys that Henry was a coward, and they laughed at him a great deal. From then on, they looked down on Henry and didn't want to play with him together. Henry was sad but he wasn't angry with Robert for his rude behaviour, because he knew that they misunderstood him. Thus, he just ignored the other boys' laughter and continued to go to school and study as well. However, Robert didn't invite Henry to go home together with him anymore. Instead, he had some other boys who also thought Henry was a coward. Every day after school, they didn't go home directly but went to the river or somewhere to play games and had a lot of fun. A few days later, Robert was bathing with his new friends in a river, and got out of his depth. He struggled and cried for help, but he failed. The boys who had called Henry a coward got out of the water as fast as they could, but they did nothing to help him. Paragraph 1: It seemed as if Robert would be dying.                                                                                                                                                                                                     Paragraph 2: Thus, Robert's life was saved.                                                                                                                                                                                                           学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$
