More than 2,000 years ago, there lived a man in the State of Yan. He was so unconfident that he didn’t know how to behave all the time. His family members advised him to overcome his weakness, but he didn’t follow their suggestions.
With the time going on, he even didn’t know if he walked in the right way. One day, he saw some people chatting and laughing on the road. One of them said that people in Handan walked most beautifully. He was so curious about how beautifully people in Handan walked that he decided to go to Handan.
As soon as he arrived in Handan, he found people there walked in a different but beautiful way. He learned the walking gestures (姿势) from the children, because he thought the way that the children walked was interesting. He learned from the old, because he believed old people’s walking gestures were steady (稳重的). He also learned from the young women, because he thought the young women’s walking gestures were so graceful. After less than half a month, he even forgot how to walk. He used up all his money, so he had to crawl (爬) back home.
In our everyday life, it is right for us to learn from other people to improve ourselves. But before learning, we should know about our advantages. Following others without thinking carefully is not a good decision.

Dongming grain (谷物) painting, an art form over 1,700 years old, uses the natural colors and shapes of grains to make beautiful pictures. In 2016, it was announced as an intangible cultural heritage in Shandong.
Han Guorui, a 45-year-old artist of this tradition, started learning grain painting when he was 8. Over time, he has seen its popularity drop. “As customs change, people no longer make foods made of grain. They prefer buying bread and cakes,” he said.
It’s easy to see why people’s interest in grain paintings is fading (逐渐消失)—creating a grain painting takes up to 27 careful steps. “Each seed is special in its way,” Han explained. For example, wild sunflower seeds look like animal eyes, while common ones work well for bird feathers (羽毛). Some grains, like corn, are harder to collect. Han even spent five years growing red corn to create plum blossoms (梅花).
In ancient times, people believed the “five grains”, such as corn, rice and beans, could take away bad luck. So, people used them to make grain paintings and they were often given as gifts. They were also symbols of good health, wealth and success. In the past, they were used to honor ancestors (祭祖), too. Today, people prefer more personal meanings in their art. Han has learned to be creative—his grain painting of the Mona Lisa was sold for 10,000 yuan.
27. Why is people’s interest in grain paintings fading according to the passage?
A. Because grain paintings are too difficult to make.
B. Because grain paintings are too cheap to be art.
C. Because grain paintings have no value any more.
D. Because grain paintings are not pretty that nobody like them.
28. Han used red corn to create ________.
A. animal eyes B. bird feathers C. plum blossoms D. sunflowers
29. Which of the following is NOT true according to the passage?
A. In ancient times, people believed the “five grains” could take away bad luck.
B. Han Guorui began to learn grain painting when he was 45 years old.
C. Dongming grain paintings have a history of more than 1,700 years.
D. In ancient times, grain paintings were symbols of good health, wealth and success.
30. In which part of the magazine can we read the passage most probably?
A. Food and Health. B. Science and Technology.
C. Plants and Nature. D. Art and Culture.

A Because grain paintings are too difficult to make.

The sun shines again after rain, and you see red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and purple light in the sky—a rainbow (彩虹).
Refraction in Action (折射作用)
Sunlight has all the colors of the rainbow, but some go faster when sunlight passes through water. From top to bottom are the faster ones to the slower. ___31___. As light enters water, it refracts. Red, traveling fastest, is refracted least. Orange is refracted a little more, and so on. Different colors are separated in this way.

___33___
If a rainbow appears in the morning, that means the rainbow is in the west, where the rain is. Weather usually moves from west to east, so the rain is coming your way. If it’s in the afternoon, things will be different.
See Two at Once
Look for a second rainbow after you see one, but it’s hard to see. ___34___. However, the second rainbow has red at the bottom and purple on top.
Unseen Rainbow Parts

【答案】例文
Dear Tom,
I’m glad that you are interested in our school’s Sunny 30-minute Break. Now let me tell you something about it.
During the break, some students play basketball on the playground. Some students jump rope together. Some students play shuttlecock. It’s fun. And some classes often have tug-of-war competitions, which are really exciting. Of course, some students also like doing morning exercises or running.
For me, I enjoy doing Chinese kung fu. It’s so relaxing that I do it every time. It can also keep me energetic. I think the Sunny 30-minute Break is very beneficial. The various activities help us students become healthier and stronger.
Do you have similar activities at your school? Looking forward to your reply!
Yours,
Wang Liang
