Diarra Boubacar, a traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)practitioner (从业者) from Mali, Africa, is the first foreign doctor in China to earn a doctoral degree in TCM. His journey began in the 1980s when he chose to study in China, impressed by Chinese doctors using acupuncture (针灸) to treat polio (小儿麻痹症) in Mali. After experiencing TCM’s effectiveness during a severe cold, he switched from Western medicine to TCM, earning his doctorate in 1997 from Chengdu University of TCM.
Boubacar faced challenges early in his career. On his first day, a patient questioned his qualifications due to his foreign appearance. To build trust, he reassured patients in the waiting area, eventually winning them over with his expertise. Over three decades, he has treated thousands and trained over 3,000 rural doctors in China. He dreams of promoting TCM globally, especially in Africa, aiming to establish TCM centers combining research, teaching and medical care.
The World Health Organization included TCM in its International Classification of Diseases, and China has developed over 90 international TCM standards. However, experts like Jia Yunfeng note that misinterpretations of TCM’s benefits and a lack of communication talent prevent its global reach.
Tim Vukan, a German TCM practitioner, shares Boubacar’s mission. After studying martial arts, Vukan became crazy about TCM’s holistic approach (整体疗法). He overcame language barriers by turning herbal medicine and acupuncture points into songs and writing them on cards. Now, he teaches medical English at Zhejiang Chinese Medical University and runs Wushan TCM, a platform sharing TCM knowledge globally. Vukan believes TCM’s focus on prevention and self-care can improve lives worldwide.
Iranian Motahareh Asgari and her husband Meghdad Abdi are also TCM advocates. Asgari, the first English-taught TCM PhD graduate from Shanghai University of TCM, promotes cultural exchanges between China and Iran. Abdi, a tai chi enthusiast, has won competitions in Iran and Shanghai. Together, they represent over 1,000 international students at SHUTCM, contributing to TCM’s global expansion.
Through figures like Boubacar, Vukan and Asgari, TCM is becoming a bridge of friendship and cultural exchange, showcasing the timeless wisdom of Chinese medicine to the world.
24. What motivated Diarra Boubacar to change his major to TCM?
A. His intense interest in promoting TCM globally.

The number of monarch butterflies spending the winter in the western United States has fallen to its second-lowest level in nearly 30 years, according to a recent survey. Pesticides (农药), habitat loss and climate change are threatening this beloved pollinator (传粉昆虫) , known for its striking orange-and-black wings.
The survey, conducted by the Xerces Society for Invertebrate Conservation, began in 1997. It tracked monarch populations along the California coast, northern Baja California, and inland sites in California and Arizona. In 2024, only 9,119 monarchs were counted, a 96%decrease from 233,394 in 2023. This is the second-lowest number since the survey started, with the record low being 1,901 monarchs in 2020. For example, a site in Santa Barbara that hosted 33,200 monarchs last winter saw only 198 this year.
Monarchs face multiple threats, including the disappearance of milkweed, the plant essential for their youngsters. Drought, wildfires, agriculture and urban development have reduced milkweed availability, while pesticides have poisoned much of what remains. Additionally, extreme heat in 2023 may have harmed the butterflies. Temperatures above 37.7℃ slow monarch breeding(繁殖), and anything above 42.2℃ is lethal. Last summer, parts of the western US experienced record-breaking heat, with Palm Springs reaching 51.1℃ in July.
Despite the alarming decline, there is hope. Monarch populations had recovered before. After hitting a low of1, 901 in 2020, the number increased to 247,246 in 2021. Emma Pelton, an endangered species biologist with the Xerces Society, emphasized that while the 2024 drop is concerning, it serves as a wake- up call to protect these insects.
Efforts are underway to safeguard monarchs. In December 2024, the US Fish and Wildlife Service proposed listing monarchs as a threatened species, which would protect their habitats and restrict harmful activities. A public comment period on the proposal ends in March, with a decision expected by December. Additionally, environmental groups like Earthjustice are pushing for stricter regulations on pesticides to protect monarchs and other pollinators.
In summary, the dramatic decline in monarch butterfly populations highlights the urgent need for conservation efforts to address habitat loss, climate change and pesticide use. With united action, there is still hope to save these iconic insects.
28. What do the figures in paragraph 2 suggest?
A. The consistent breeding conditions. B. A severe drop in monarch populations.
C. The success of wildlife regulations. D. A failure in conservation measures.
29. What does the underlined word “lethal” in paragraph 3 probably mean?
A. Manageable. B. Insignificant. C. Deadly. D. Beneficial.
30. What specific action is Earthjustice advocating to protect monarch butterflies?
A. Tougher regulations on pesticide usage. B. Relocating monarchs to cooler climates.
C. Funding for urban milkweed plantations. D. Restricting agricultural expansion in California.
31. What can be inferred about monarch butterflies?
A. They’ll recover quickly on their own. B. Milkweed will be sufficient for them.
C. They’ll keep decreasing without efforts. D. Habitat loss isn’t a major issue for them.
【答案】28. B 29. C 30. A 31. C

With united action, there is still hope to save these iconic insects.(总之,帝王蝶数量的急剧下降凸显了迫切需要采取保护措施来解决栖息地丧失、气候变化和农药使用问题。通过联合行动,仍然有希望拯救这些标志性的昆虫。)”可推断,如果不努力,帝王蝶的数量将会继续减少。故选C。

Last summer, the United Kingdom became the first country in Europe to legalize lab-grown meat, starting with pet food. This Friday, the product will hit the shelves. The producer, Meatly, has created a dog treat called Chick Bites. Unlike traditional pet food, Chick Bites are made without involving a live chicken. Instead, cells from a chicken egg are cultivated(培育)in a lab and combined with plant-based ingredients. The company claims the result is “just as tasty and nutritious as traditional chicken”.
Meatly, based in London, describes itself as the first company to supply cultivated meat for pet food. The company states that a single sample(样本)of egg cells, multiplied in a lab, can produce enough protein to feed pets forever. Cultivated meat is considered more moral and more ecologically beneficial, although its production does contribute to CO2 emissions due to the electricity required.
According to the European Environment Agency, producing cultivated meat uses 45% less energy than traditional chicken farming. If powered by renewable energy, it can emit up to 92% less greenhouse gases, use 95% less land, and 78% less water.
Chick Bites are packaged in a pale blue resealable pack featuring a cartoon dog waving a flag. Priced at £3. 49 per pack, they fall in the mid-range for dog treats available at Pets At Home, the UK trader set to start selling them this Friday.
Andrew Knight, a professor of veterinary science at the University of Winchester, highlighted that around 20% of meat consumed in higher pet-owning nations, including the UK, is eaten by pets, not humans.
A 2022 survey published in the PLOS ONE journal found that 32.5% of respondents were willing to eat cultivated meat themselves, while 47.3% were willing to feed it to their pets. Meanwhile, BioCraft Pet Nutrition, a Vienna-based company, is developing lab-grown mouse meat, rabbit meat and beef for pets, claiming cats and dogs absolutely love them. However, the true appeal of these products will only be known once they reach the market.
32. What do we know about Chick Bites?
A. They are created without living animals. B. They are alternatives to plants.
C. They are packaged in a yellow pack. D. They are highly-priced in the UK.
33. What is the advantage of cultivated meat according to paragraph 3?
A. It’s more nutritious. B. It’s more cost- effective.
C. It’s more delicious. D. It’s more environmentally friendly.
34. What can we learn from the last paragraph?
A. Most people are eager to eat cultivated meat.
B. The popularity of cultivated pet food remains uncertain.
C. Cultivated pet food will surely be favored in the market.
D. BioCraft Pet Nutrition’s products are better than Meatly’s.
35. What is the main purpose of the text?
A. To promote the sale of Chick Bites.
B. To discuss the environmental impact of pet food.
C. To explain the process of making lab-grown meat.
D. To introduce the first lab-grown meat pet food in the UK.
【答案】32. A 33. D 34. B 35. D

【解析】
【导语】这是一篇说明文。文章介绍SMART目标的五个标准(具体、可衡量、可实现、相关、有时限)及实现方法 。
【36题详解】
由上文“First and foremost, be specific about what you want to achieve. Instead of saying ‘get fit’, set a precise goal like ‘finish a 5-kilometer run in less than 30 minutes by June 1st’.(首先也是最重要的,要明确你想要实现的目标。不要说‘健身’,而是设定一个精确的目标,比如‘在6月1日前在30分钟内完成5公里跑步’。)”可知,这里提到了设定精确目标,下文“such as jogging for 10 minutes three times a week, gradually increasing the duration and intensity. This way, you have a clear plan of action.(比如每周慢跑三次,每次10分钟,逐渐增加时长和强度。这样,你就有了一个清晰的行动计划。)”是对目标进行细化分解的举例。而G项To make this goal more manageable, break it down into smaller steps(为了使这个目标更易于管理,把它分解成更小的步骤) 符合此处语境,起到了承上启下的作用,其中break it down into smaller steps与下文举例相呼应。故选G项。
【37题详解】
根据下文“If your goal is to save money, aim to save $1, 000 every month for six months. Use tracking apps or a simple spreadsheet to monitor your progress. Seeing how close you are to your goal can boost your motivation and help you stay on track.(如果你的目标是存钱,那就设定目标,在六个月内每月存1000美元。使用跟踪应用程序或简单的电子表格来监控你的进展。看到自己离目标有多近可以增强你的动力,并帮助你保持正轨。)”可知,这里主要讲的是设定目标要可衡量以及如何衡量目标进展。A项Measurability is also key(可衡量性也是关键)符合此处语境,可作为该段的主旨句,引出下文关于可衡量性的阐述。故选A项。
【38题详解】
由上文“It’s essential to make sure your goals are achievable.(确保你的目标是可实现的,这一点至关重要。)”可知,这里强调目标要可实现,下文“Avoid setting the bar too high, which can lead to discouragement. For example, if you want to start a business, divide it into practical tasks:research the market, write a business plan, secure funding, and so on.(避免把目标定得太高,这可能会导致气馁。例如,如果你想创业,把它分成实际的任务:研究市场、写商业计划、筹集资金等等。)”是对如何使目标可实现的举例说明。F项Consider your current abilities, resources and any potential barriers(考虑你目前的能力、资源以及任何潜在的障碍)符合此处语境,承上启下,说明要综合考虑自身情况来确保目标可实现。故选F项。
【39题详解】
由上文“Relevance is another important factor. Your goals should match your interests, values and long-term objectives.(相关性是另一个重要因素。你的目标应该与你的兴趣、价值观和长期目标相匹配。)”可知,这里讲的是目标的相关性,下文“focus on developing the skills and experience needed for the desired position. This way, each goal you set contributes to your overall life vision and helps you move closer to your dreams.(专注于培养所需职位所需的技能和经验。这样,你设定的每个目标都有助于你整体的人生愿景,并帮助你更接近你的梦想。)”是对目标与自身情况相关的进一步举例说明。B项If you’re seeking a promotion at work(如果你正在寻求工作上的晋升) 符合此处语境,是一个具体的与工作相关的例子,与下文培养所需职位技能相呼应。故选B项。
【40题详解】
由上文“Lastly, it is vital to set clear start and end dates for your goals. You should ensure that the deadlines you set are practical yet challenging enough to keep you motivated and on track.(最后,为你的目标设定明确的开始和结束日期是至关重要的。你应该确保你设定的最后期限是实际的,但又足够具有挑战性,以保持你的动力和轨道。)”可知,此处强调目标的“时间限制”(Time-Bound)。D项Additionally, set aside sufficient time for high-quality work(此外,要留出足够的时间来完成高质量的工作)补充说明在时间规划中,除了截止日期,还需保证工作质量所需的时间,其中set aside sufficient time与start and end dates形成时间管理的递进关系,符合段落逻辑。故选D项。

Previously, I lived in a large, comfortable house with a wonderful kitchen. Baking was my absolute passion, and the bread maker was one of my most treasured appliances. Each time I used it, the warm and inviting smell of freshly baked bread would spread throughout the entire house. My little dog, Paco, would always stay close by. his nose moving in excitement as ho smelled the lovely scents (气味).
But life took an unexpected turn. I had to move to a small apartment in Jacksonville, Florida, The move was difficult, not only because of the significant change in living space but also because it seemed to put an end to the things I loved. There was so little room in this new place. The old bread maker, which was rather large, just didn’t fit into my new, tiny living situation. I had to make the tough decision to leave it behind — a decision that filled me with a sense of loss.
In the first week after moving, I was busy with my new job, spending long, exhausting hours at the office every day. Without any friends around, I felt extremely lonely. The surroundings were totally unfamiliar to me, but I was making great efforts to adapt to this new life, even though it was really tough.
At that weekend, while I was chatting with my new neighbor, I happened to mention my love for baking and how I missed using my old bread maker. To my surprise, the neighbor, who was cleaning out some of her storage, said she had an extra little bread maker that she no longer needed. She offered it to me, saying it was a brand-new model that she had received as a gift but never got around to using. I was both touched and a bit surprised by her kindness. I gratefully accepted the offer, and that’s how the new bread maker found its way into my small apartment.
On the very afternoon I received the gift, after walking my dog Paco, I couldn’t wait any longer and decided to make bread for dinner right away.
注意:1. 续写词数应为150个左右;
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
I took out the box containing the bread maker and put it on the counter.

When the timer finally went off, the most wonderful smell filled the room.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】
I took out the box containing the bread maker and put it on the counter. With a mix of excitement and nostalgia, I carefully unpacked it, my hands trembling slightly as I thought of my old bread maker left behind. I set it up, measuring the ingredients with extra care, hoping to recreate the magic of my past baking days. Paco, sensing my anticipation, sat patiently by my side, his tail wagging gently. As the machine began to hum, a sense of warmth and familiarity washed over me, easing the loneliness I’d felt in my new home.
When the timer finally went off, the most wonderful smell filled the room. It was as if I’d been transported back to my old kitchen, surrounded by love and comfort. I opened the bread maker, and there it was — a perfectly baked loaf, golden and inviting. Tears welled up in my eyes as I sliced a piece and shared it with Paco. The simple act of baking had not only filled my apartment with delicious aroma but also my heart with hope and a renewed sense of belonging in this new chapter of my life.

B. His personal encounter with TCM during an illness.
C. His strong desire to earn a doctoral degree in China.
D. His admiration for Chinese doctors treating polio in Mali.
25. What is mentioned as a challenge to TCM’s global expansion?
A. Misunderstandings about its benefits. B. Lack of funds for research.
C. High costs of Chinese medicine. D. Limited interest in Asia.
26. How did Tim Vukan overcome language barriers in learning TCM?
A. He avoided theoretical studies entirely. B. He attended intensive language courses.
C. He used creative memorization techniques. D. He practiced with native Chinese speakers daily.
27. What can be concluded about TCM from the text?
A. It is only practiced in China. B. It has no international standards.
C. It is widely accepted without any barriers. D. It is gaining global recognition despite challenges.

The number of monarch butterflies spending the winter in the western United States has fallen to its second-lowest level in nearly 30 years according to a recent survey.
D

I had to move to a small apartment in Jacksonville Florida, The move was difficult, not only because of the significant change in living space but also because it seemed to put an end to the things I loved.
注意:1. 续写词数应为150个左右;
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
I took out the box containing the bread maker and put it on the counter.
