At the corner of a grassy field, a group of women in their late 50s caught my eye. With plastic bags hanging from their arms, they moved slowly through the grass, searching for something. “What are they doing?” I wondered. Curious, I walked over for a closer look. One of the women looked up and laughed, “See? Wild shepherd’s purse (荠菜)!” “Shepherd’s purse? Here in this park?” I asked, looking around in surprise. “Ah, you young guys know nothing about this,” the woman replied. Then, she moved to a small plant with toothed leaves just behind me. I looked at the plant and scratched (挠) my head. Maybe she was right. Young people don’t know much about any of this. But who hasn’t heard of this trend? Every spring for the past several years, digging for wild edible (可吃的) plants has been all over social media. However, many of us know little about these plants. Take shepherd’s purse, for example. I eat it almost every spring as part of my dumpling fillings. But without much experience in cooking or shopping, I have no idea what my food looks like before it’s chopped (剁碎) and cooked? We aren’t robots and eating shouldn’t feel like charging (充电). To make eating a truly human experience, we need to roll up our sleeves (卷起袖子) sometimes. Instead of buying ready-to-cook dumplings, we could buy some meat, shepherd’s purse and dumpling skins, and learn to make those dumplings by hand. What about digging for wild edible plants? It could be a fun adventure, but I think I’ll find a guide before I get my hands dirty! 根据材料内容选择最佳答案。 26. What were the women doing in the park? A. Taking a walk. B. Having a picnic. C. Looking for wild plants. D. Collecting plastic bags. 27. Why did the author feel surprised when hearing about shepherd’s purse? A. He believed it was harmful. B. He had never eaten it before. C. He thought it was old people’s favorite. D. He didn’t expect it to grow in a city park. 28. What can we know about the author from Paragraph 5? A. He knows little about wild plants. B. He has rich experience in cooking. C. He hates the trend of digging for wild plants. D. He goes shopping with his family every week. 29. What’s the author’s attitude towards buying ready-to-cook food? A. Supportive B. Hopeful C. Doubtful D. Uncertain 30. Which is the best title for the text? A. Eating Like a Human B. Digging in the Spring C. The Mystery of Wild Plants D. The Fun of Eating Wild Plants C As humans, when there is natural light, we wake up, and at night we feel sleepy. This is called the body’s “day and night” cycle. Some chemicals in our body like melatonin (褪黑素 ), cortisol (皮质醇) and adenosine (腺苷) control our body’s rhythm. Melatonin for example increases with darkness, and helps us fall into a deep sleep. Cortisol which rises sharply at daybreak causes us to wake up. Adenosine which builds up during the daytime can make us feel tired and want to rest. People all have different “day and night” cycles, while the cycle itself changes as we grow up. When we’re kids, we usually feel sleepy early. But when we become teenagers, our body changes. Melatonin and cortisol start working later, and we feel sleepy 2 hours later than before. Since most schools don’t adapt to this change, and they still start early, teenagers end up sleeping less during weekdays and more during weekends-a term known as social jet lag. And it may lead to all kinds of problems. When teenagers lack rest, their minds have trouble paying attention, and they often cannot remember what they have learned during the day. Also, teenagers who don’t get enough sleep may become moody or fail to understand their own feelings. What’s more, not getting enough sleep makes teenagers feel stressed, and it may even cause anxiety or addiction. Sleep also affects our appetite. Teenagers who don’t sleep well at night may eat more during the day, which can make them put on weight easily. The solution could be simple: allow teenagers to sleep according to their natural body rhythm (人体节律). In the fall of 2023 a public school in China announced that it would change the school starting time from 7:50 AM to 8:45 AM to adapt to the body rhythm of teenagers. The result: On average, pupils got more than 30 minutes of extra sleep every night. Later they showed higher concentration levels, felt more satisfied and willing to learn. So, it’s really important to let teenagers sleep according to their body rhythm. 根据材料内容选择最佳答案。 31. What can we learn from the first paragraph? A. Adenosine can make us energetic. B. Nature controls our body’s rhythm. C. Cortisol can help us fall asleep easily. D. Melatonin can help us have a sound sleep. 32. Which picture shows the time when cortisol increases quickly? A. B. C. D. 33. Who may suffer from social jet lag? A. A teenager who eats a lot on weekdays. B. A teenager who gets up early at weekends. C. A teenager who gets more sleep on weekends. D. A teenager who goes to bed at 10:00 every day. 34. What are the last two paragraphs? A. Causes & Effects B. Facts & Opinions C. Descriptions & Examples D. Problems & Solutions 35. What’s the writer’s purpose in writing the text? A. To show the importance of having enough sleep. B. To ask teenagers to pay attention to their own health. C. To compare sleep problems between children and teenagers. D. To explain teenagers should sleep following their body rhythms. D There are many things people have to do every day. For example, adults must go to work. Children must go to school and do homework. And everyone must help around the house. ____36____ So it’s important to understand what motivates (激励) us. We aren’t robots, and eating shouldn’t feel like charging (充电). C. He has rich experience in cooking. C. He hates the trend of digging for wild plants. D. He goes shopping with his family every week. 29. In the fall of 2023, a public school in China announced that it would change the school starting time from 7:50 AM to 8:45 AM to adapt to the body rhythm of teenagers. The result: On average, pupils got more than 30 minutes of extra sleep every night. Later they showed higher concentration levels, felt more satisfied and willing to learn. So, it’s really important to let teenagers sleep according to their body rhythm. 根据材料内容选择最佳答案。 31 What can we learn from the first paragraph? A. Adenosine can make us energetic. B.
