Movies begin with an idea in a moviemaker’s head. That person could be a screenwriter, a director, a producer or someone else. But it is the screenwriter who takes that idea and writes the story. How to be a screenwriter and make a movie? We asked some successful ones and their answers may help you.
How to organize your story?
As in any story, you have to decide the characters. Don’t use too many. What about a main character, his or her friend, and a bad guy? That’s a good start. In any good story, the main character needs to face a problem, then solve it or not. The story is about the main character’s efforts, whether successful or not.
How to write your screenplay?
The written version (版本) of your story is called a screenplay. Screenplays are written in a special way. They include settings, actions or things about the film. When your screenplay is done, have a “reading”. Have friends play the part and read the script aloud. You might even want to read it in front of more people. Who knows? One day your screenplay might become a film!
How long?
In a typed screenplay, like mine, one page means about one minute of movie time. Screenplays for most Hollywood feature films run 90 to 120 pages. Don’t worry, though. Your first movie might be just a few minutes long. What matters is that you have a good story and you tell it well.
21. What can we infer (推断) about the screenwriter from Paragraph 1?
A. Screenwriters provide all the important movie ideas.
B. Screenwriters are the only ones who can make a movie.
C. Screenwriters play a key role in turning ideas into stories.
D. Screenwriters have no relationship with other moviemakers.
22. What does the underlined sentence in the first answer mean?
A. The bad guy is a must in the movie. B. Characters’ relationships don’t matter.
C. A story usually includes three characters. D. It’s better to start with a small number of characters.
23. According to the passage, what is the key point for a successful movie?
A. Having a long screenplay. B. Having some famous actors.
C. Having a lot of funny characters. D. Having a good story and telling it well.
【答案】21. C 22. D 23. D

The development of Virtual Reality (VR) technology has changed our lives as it is commonly used in entertainment such as video games while the same time creating digital spaces for people. However, VR technology has its downsides. Without the supervision (管理), the world of virtual reality can prove to be dangerous space that can bring harmful danger to teenagers.
Firstly, VR games and experiences require users to wear VR headsets most of the time, giving rise to health risks. VR headsets blind the users from the world around them, as a result, they could easily get hurt. Toby Robiecelli, a teenager, lost his balance and hurt his knees seriously while playing a shooter game called Superhot VR. Another teenager, Landon Woodward, hurt his right hand while playing the VR game named Gorilla Tag, with one of his fingernails falling off. The VR world sometimes causes teenagers to forget about their physical conditions.
Secondly, the world of VR may also create a sense of detachment (冷漠) in teenagers. The VR world is often more exciting than the real world and it can easily satisfy the social and entertainment needs of teenagers. That’s a welcome change from their stressful school life. However, teenagers may lose their connection with real life — their school life, family or friends.
Lastly, it is harder for parents to check the content in the VR world. Teenagers can easily get in touch with strangers and put themselves in the dangerous situation.
In conclusion, although VR has opened up a new world to children, it has also increased the risks. Before trying new areas of VR apps, we’d better take a step back and consider the possible result of this technology.
24. Why does the writer mention Toby Robiecelli and Landon Woodward?
A. To prove that VR games are very exciting.
B. To show the health risks of using VR headsets.
C. To prove that VR headsets are of poor quality.
D. To show that teenagers are good at playing VR games.
25. Why can the VR world easily satisfy the social and entertainment needs of teenagers?
A. By providing more care for physical conditions.
B. By making teenagers wear comfortable headsets.
C. By offering experiences different from their school life.
D. By attracting teenagers to communicate with other strangers.
26. What is the writer’s main purpose of writing this passage?
A. To ask people to stop using VR technology.
B. To recommend a new kind of popular VR game.
C. To provide a detailed guide on how to use VR headsets.
D. To introduce the possible danger caused by VR technology.
【答案】24. B 25. C 26. D

Every year EARTHDAY. ORG sets the theme for Earth Day, which is on April 22. This year’s theme is called Our Power, Our Planet, championing renewable energy.
Renewable energy is energy that will never run out. Here is a guide to each energy source and how they can help us make electricity. No matter you are a student or a teacher, consider using our free guides!
What is solar energy?
Solar energy is energy from the sun. Solar energy is more than enough and clean, producing no greenhouse gases during operation. In 2023, solar energy is made up of 74% of renewable energy worldwide. It uses sunlight to create electricity or warm air and water. In the future, solar energy is expected to play an important role in meeting the world’s energy needs.
What is wind energy?
Big machines called wind turbines (涡轮) help make the wind’s power. Most wind farms, where many turbines are seen, are on land, but some are built in the ocean too! The electricity a wind farm can make depends on two things: the blowing speed of the wind and the numbers of the turbines on the farm. It’s like having more friends to help you blow up many balloons — more wind means more power! Wind turbine technology continues to improve, so wind energy will continue to grow and become an important part.
What is geothermal (地热) energy?
Geothermal energy comes from the heat under the Earth’s surface. It can be used to make electricity to heat or cool buildings. However, geothermal energy can be found in certain areas where there is geothermal heat. The special place to find geothermal energy is called the Ring of Fire. It is known for having many earthquakes.
What is tidal (潮汐) energy?
Tidal energy is like magic from the ocean! The water in the sea moves and then makes the special energy. Do you know that three billion people live close to the coastline? That’s almost half of all the people in the world! It’s smart to use tidal energy because it can help provide power to all those people while being friendly to our planet.
The energy landscape is changing rapidly. In the future, it is possible that renewable energy will master the energy market, offering clean power in the future!

How time flies! Almost three years has quickly passed. Looking back, my most noticeable change is becoming more confident.
In the past, I was too shy to answer questions in class. But last year, my English teacher encouraged me to join a speech contest. Though nervous at first, I practiced daily and finally won third prize. This experience taught me that courage grows through challenges. Now, I actively participate in class discussions and even lead group projects.
This change came because I realized: growth happens outside our comfort zone. Every small step forward builds confidence. Junior high taught me to embrace challenges bravely.

Movies begin with an idea in a moviemaker’s head. That person could be a screenwriter a director, a producer or someone else.
D Screenwriters have no relationship with other moviemakers.

Secondly the world of VR may also create a sense of detachment (冷漠) in teenagers.
