课时检测训练2 必修第一册 Unit 2 Exploring English 对应学生用书P283 Ⅰ.阅读理解 A (2024·吉林省长春市高三一模)Do you ever find yourself repeating a specific word in your head over and over until the word suddenly makes no sense to you and you wonder why it's a word at all? This is just one of the many odd things our brains do to us,and it's a pretty funny experience when it happens. This phenomenon is known as semantic satiation (语义饱和) and it causes us to perceive a real word as meaningless sounds.Sometimes that loss of meaning can be a pain, sometimes it can be useful, and sometimes,it can even be unforgettably beautiful. Semantic satiation occurs when a word is repeated over and over again until the word begins to lose its meaning to the listener. The term was first coined in 1962,but research surrounding the phenomenon dates from the early 20th century. There are multiple theories as to why semantic satiation occurs. One is that the repeated use of a neural pathway associated with a word impacts response times, leading to the loss of meaning.Another theory is that tiredness causes the connection between word and meaning to get disordered. More recently, researchers have used neural networking simulations (模拟) to try to identify why the phenomenon happens and another set of researchers have found that semantic satiation delays facial expression processing. In other words, there isn't an agreement as to why semantic satiation happens. Studies looking at semantic satiation have typically involved the repetition of a word up to 30 times, with semantic satiation,in some cases, appearing after seven to nine repetitions. Some words used during these studies have been as short as four letters, but others have been much longer. Sometimes, losing the meaning of a word can actually be helpful.Judy Ravin of Accents International uses semantic satiation to help English language learners focus more on how your muscles need to move in order to make the sounds required, rather than the meaning of a particular word.“A word in itself doesn't actually have meaning.A word is a symbol for something,so,when we can move away from the meaning and just think about sound production, the physiology,it's helpful.” [语篇导读] 本文是一篇说明文。文章主要介绍了语义饱和现象,包括其定义、发生原因、研究以及在实际中的应用。 1.What can we learn from semantic satiation? A.It has its origin from money. B.It is most likely to be painful. C.It arises as a word is repeated enough times. D.It's one of the few tricks our brain plays on us. 解析 细节理解题。根据第三段“Semantic satiation occurs when a word is repeated over and over again until the word begins to lose its meaning to the listener.”可知,语义饱和是当一个词被重复足够多次时出现的。故选C。 答案 C 2.What does the word “coined” in paragraph 3 probably mean? A.Created. B.Saved. C.Earned. D.Collected. 解析 词义猜测题。根据下文“but research surrounding the phenomenon dates from the early 20th century”可知,此处是在介绍这个术语的起源,由此可知,语义饱和这个术语应该是在1962年被首次创造出来的。故选A。 答案 A 3.How does Judy Ravin help English learners? A.By strengthening muscles physically. B.By emphasizing learning words basically. C.By combining the meaning and sound organically. D.By concentrating on pronouncing words physiologically. 解析 推理判断题。根据最后一段“Judy Ravin of Accents International uses semantic satiation to help English language learners...”可知,Judy Ravin通过从生理上集中练习单词发音来帮助英语学习者。故选D。 答案 D 4.What does the text mainly talk about? A.Who are suffering from semantic satiation. B.What kind of semantic satiation is beneficial. C.Why semantic satiation makes a word meaningless. D.How semantic satiation influences our facial expression. 解析 文章大意题。第一段指出我们有时会发现某个单词突然毫无意义,接着下文介绍了语义饱和发生的原因,由此可知,这篇文章主要讲了为什么语义饱和会使一个词失去意义。故选C。 答案 C B (2024·浙江省义乌市高三二模)Last night,I told my Argentinian friend that I had been using LangAI to practice my Spanish. It can not only correct my errors,I told him,but also give me different regional expressions in the language, including Mexican Spanish,Argentinian Spanish, and Spanglish. And,unlike when I am chatting with him on WhatsApp,I do not have to factor in time zone differences. My friend seemed less excited.“So,you've replaced me?” he joked.I haven't,of course. The convenience and width of an AI chatbot can't compete with the pleasures of chatting with someone whose personality I have learned over the course of years. It is,however,a useful supplement. LangAI,one specific languagelearning chatbot, was launched in March by Federico Ruiz Cassarino. He drew on his own experiences of learning English after moving from Uruguay to Britain. Many people get selfconscious about making mistakes in a language they barely speak, even to a tutor,Ruiz Cassarino notes. But a chatbot won't judge you.And the new wave of generative AI is so advanced that rather than stick to boring prescripted(照本宣科的) roleplays,“you can speak about things that are interesting to you, which makes it feel like not as much of a chore to learn”.To this end,the team customized LangAI's interface to match users' vocabulary levels, added the ability to make corrections during a conversation, and enabled the conversion of speech to text. AIpowered language learning apps have weaknesses.Users are reporting that chatbots are quite competent in widely spoken European languages, but the quality substantially worsens for languages that are less represented online or that have different writing systems.Even in common languages, the chatbots make errors, sometimes inventing words. This may not bother advanced learners much, but with these chatbots delivering text so confidently,it would be easy for a relatively new learner to take what they say as correct. [语篇导读] 本文是一篇说明文。文章通过讲述LangAI的使用情况,说明了使用LangAI练习语言的优点和不足。 5.What advantages does AI have over a friend? A.Fix every error in conversations. B.Display differences in languages. C.Provide enjoyable conversations. D.Offer roundtheclock assistance. 解析 细节理解题。根据第一段“And,unlike when I am chatting with him on WhatsApp,I do not have to factor in time zone differences.”可知,AI的优势是可以提供全天候帮助。故选D。 答案 D 6.What does the underlined word “It” in paragraph 2 refer to? A.The course of years. B.Practices on LangAI. C.Chats on WhatsApp. D.The pleasures of chatting. 解析 代词指代题。“The convenience and width of an AI chatbot can't compete with the pleasures of chatting with someone whose personality I have learned over the course of years.”描述了使用人工智能聊天机器人练习语言的特点,从而推知代词指代的是“使用LangAI练习语言”。故选B。 答案 B 7.Why is Cassarino's language learning experience mentioned? A.To highlight the inspiration behind LangAI's creation. B.To illustrate the challenges faced by language learners. C.To compare the differences between different languages. D.To show LangAI's emphasis on personalized experiences. 解析 写作意图题。根据第三段“LangAI,one specific languagelearning chatbot, was launched in March by Federico Ruiz Cassarino. He drew on his own experiences of learning English after moving from Uruguay to Britain.”可知,提到Cassarino的语言学习经历是为了突出LangAI创作背后的灵感。故选A。 答案 A 8.What can LangAI do to support language learners? A.Scoring users' performance in conversations. B.Generating speech according to the given text. C.Creating new words by the rules of word formation. D.Providing dialogues based on users' language proficiency. 解析 细节理解题。根据第四段“To this end,the team customized LangAI's interface to match users' vocabulary levels, added the ability to make corrections during a conversation, and enabled the conversion of speech to text.”可知,LangAI能根据用户的语言水平提供对话来支持语言学习者。故选D。 答案 D Ⅱ.七选五 (2024·河北省承德市部分示范高中高三三模) Accents in English Accents are fascinating and usually come with kinds of information.__1__.So many people, especially actors, are interested in learning accents. Thanks to the development of technology, various handy accesses are available for people to share and pick up accents.English actor and accent coach Sarah Valentine is an expert in teaching the tones which can change the English language.__2__. Valentine has been working in TV since the 1990s.She appears to have found success coaching other actors to speak in a variety of dialects.__3__,TikTok is a medium to educate the masses.Valentine's TikTok takes simple phrases, such as “I'm hungry” or “the milk smells funny”.Valentine then repeats these simple words in accents including German,Dutch, and New York. She also highlights the rich variety of dialects within the UK,including Yorkshire,Scouse,Cockney,Geordie,Welsh, and Northern Irish. “__4__,” James Lantolf,a professor at Penn State, said.“Isolated (偏僻的) areas, such as New Orleans, develop different dialects.Since there is no contact between regions, entire words and languages can grow and develop independently.Social standing and education also affect the language of an individual person.” It is thought that accents have psychosocial purposes, allowing individuals to identify oneself and others as part of a group. Everyone has an accent.A dialect coach like Valentine can help one learn to speak differently, for an acting job or for fun.__5__.Learning a second language as an adult is difficult;for much the same reason,it's tricky to change your accent. With that in mind, watching Valentine change accents at the drop of a hat is all the more impressive. A.In fact, all accents are worthy of pride B.One's birthplace can affect his accent C.However, not all accents are worth learning D.While much work with actors is done in oneonone coaching E.They can signal one's living places, education and personality F.On TikTok,she gives examples of simple phrases repeated in over 20 accents G.A region's location has a direct influence on the development of a local language [语篇导读] 本文是一篇说明文。文章主要介绍的是口音往往可以反映出一个人的成长环境和教育背景,事实上英语也有很多种方言。 1.解析 根据空前“Accents are fascinating and usually come with kinds of information.”可知,口音反映出很多个人信息,结合空后“So many people, especially actors, are interested in learning accents.”可知,很多人对口音感兴趣,此空应继续介绍方言的情况,E项“They can signal one's living places, education and personality”中的they指的是空前的kinds of information,指明这些具体信息包括living places, education和personality等,且与空后的内容形成因果关系,符合逻辑。故选E。 答案 E 2.解析 根据空前“English actor and accent coach Sarah Valentine is an expert in teaching the tones which can change the English language.”可知,萨拉·瓦伦丁是教授可以改变英语语言的音调的专家,F项“On TikTok,she gives examples of simple phrases repeated in over 20 accents”是对空前内容的进一步说明,其中的she指的是空前的Sarah Valentine。故选F。 答案 F 3.解析 分析空格后半句话可知,此空处应是带有连词的从句,或者是短语,根据空前“She appears to have found success coaching other actors to speak in a variety of dialects.”可知,她好像是成功教授演员用各种口音说话,根据空后“TikTok is a medium to educate the masses”可知,TikTok是教育大众的一个媒介,D项“While much work with actors is done in oneonone coaching”为让步状语从句,且讲述的内容起到承上启下的作用。故选D。 答案 D 4.解析 此空应为本段的主旨句,根据空后“Isolated (偏僻的) areas, such as New Orleans, develop different dialects.”可知,偏僻的地区发展出不同的方言,G项“A region's location has a direct influence on the development of a local language”对后面的两句话能起到概括作用,其中的A region's location与New Orleans相关。故选G。 答案 G 5.解析 根据空前“Everyone has an accent.A dialect coach like Valentine can help one learn to speak differently, for an acting job or for fun.”可知,像Valentine这样的教练都可以帮助人去学习,结合空后“Learning a second language as an adult is difficult;for much the same reason,it's tricky to change your accent.”可知,对于成年人来说,学第二语言和改变口音都是非常困难的,此空处讲述的应是对口音的总结,A项“In fact, all accents are worthy of pride”承接空前的内容,而想要改变引以为豪的东西,必然是困难的,与空后的内容吻合。故选A。 答案 A Ⅲ.语法填空 (2024·安徽省滁州市高三二模)Language is naturally acquired when children are able to use it pleasurably, and language acquisition by children 1.________ (them) saves both time and labor, said Englishlanguage education expert Chen Yaping.
