①Japan’s population is rapidly aging, with 28 percent of its people aged 65 or older. This means there aren’t enough young people doing jobs that need physical strength like building things and farming.
②To encourage older people to work on, technology companies in Japan have developed special suits called exoskeleton (外骨骼). These suits can make it easier to lift and carry heavy objects.
③ “We have no choice, elderly people need to stay in the workplace,” says Daigo Orihara at Innophys. This company has made a suit called the Every Muscle Suit. It’s light, weighing less than 4 kg. It doesn’t need any batteries (电池) or motors (发动机). When users put it on like a backpack, they pump (抽气) air into it 30 times with a hand pump. Then, the suit can help them lift up to 25 kg easily. The suit costs about 1000 pounds and is used by food companies to help worker lift big boxes, by old people’s homes to help workers lift people in and out of bed, as well as by food factories and building companies.
④Another company, Panasonic, is also developing different exoskeleton suits. Its most important one—the Atoun Model Y—costs 4200 pounds. It uses motors instead of air to work and can last for 8 hours. It weighs 4.5kg and can help users lift up to 10 kg.
⑤Similarly, Japanese company JTEKT, part of the Toyota group, also began selling an exoskeleton. It’s used to help older workers and also runs on a motor.
⑥As Japan is facing the problems of fewer and fewer workers, they may need to raise the age when people stop working. This means there will be even more need for exoskeleton to help older people keep working.
31.Why do Japanese technology companies develop exoskeleton?
A.To take the place of humans with machines.

Every boy wants to find treasure. Tom was no different. One summer day Tom told Huck about his idea.
“Where can we look for treasure? ” asked Huck.
“It’s hidden on islands, under dead trees, but mostly under the floors in haunted (闹鬼的) houses.”
So, one Saturday afternoon Tom and his friend went to look for treasure at the haunted house on Cardiff Hill. It was a quiet and lonely place, which made the boys feel very frightened. They entered quietly, and explored downstairs. There were cobwebs everywhere and everything was old and broken. Then they threw their tools in a corner and walked upstairs, but there was nothing there. They were just about to go downstairs and start digging when Tom stopped.
“What is it? ” whispered Huck, going white with fear.
“Keep quiet! There’s someone downstairs. ”
The boys lay down, looking through the holes in the wooden floor. There were two men downstairs. One was an old Spaniard in a wide sombrero hat and the other was dirty and unpleasant-looking.
Tom and Huck shook with fear when they heard the Spaniard speak because they found it was Indian Joe. He said, “It’s time for us to move, partner. What will we do with the $650 from the robbery?”
“Let’s keep $30 each and leave the bag here. ”
The dirty man went to the fireplace and moved a stone. Then he lifted out a bag full of money and took out some coins. The two boys forgot all their fears when they saw there was real treasure downstairs. Then Indian Joe started digging a hole with his knife and the knife hit something. “What is it? ” asked the other man.
“It’s a box, ” said Indian Joe. And he put in his hand and pulled out a handful of gold coins. The other man found the boys’ tools, and they soon pulled out the box.
“There’s thousands of dollars in there, ” said Indian Joe.
“The Murrell Gang used this area one summer, ” said his partner.
“They must have hidden their money here. ”
“What will we do with this, Joe? Will we bury (埋) it again?”
“No, someone might find it, ” said Indian Joe. “Let’s bury it in the number two den (洞穴). ”
Tom and Huck got up as soon as the two men left. They decided to watch out for the “man in the sombrero” when he came to town and find out where the number two den was.

“Have you finished your lesson, George?” said Mr. Prentice to his son, who had laid aside his book and was busy making a large paper kite.
“No, father, ”replied George, hanging down his head.
“Why not, my son?”
“Because it is so difficult, father. I am sure that I shall never learn it. Besides, I could not remember it after I had learned it, my memory is so bad.”
“If I were to promise you a holiday on the thirtieth of the month after next, do you think you would forget the date?”
“No, I am pretty sure that I should not.”
“You are first-rate at skating, and flying a kite, and playing at ball and marbles, are you not?”
“Yes, father.”
“And yet you cannot learn your lesson! My dear boy, you are deceiving(欺骗) yourself. You can learn as well as anyone, if you will only try.”
“But have I not tried, father?” again urged George.
“Well, try again. Come, for this afternoon lay aside that kite you are making, and give another effort to get your lesson ready. Be in earnest, and you will soon learn it. To show you that it only requires perseverance,_I will tell you a story:—
“One of the dullest boys at a village school, more than thirty years ago, went up to repeat his lesson one morning; and, as usual, did not know it. ‘Go to your seat!’ ”said the teacher angrily.
“If you don’t pay more attention to your lessons, you will never be fit for anything.”
“The poor boy stole off to his seat, and bent his eyes again upon his lesson.”
“It is of no use; I cannot learn.” he said in a whisper to a companion who sat near him.
“You must try hard, ”replied the kind-hearted boy.
“I have tried, but it is of no use; I may just as well give up at once.”
“Try again, Henry!” Whispered his companion, in an earnest and encouraging tone.
“These two little words gave him a fresh impulse, and he bent his mind again to his task.”
Gradually he began to find the sentences lingering in his memory; and soon, to his surprise and pleasure, the whole lesson was mastered!
“From that day, ” continued Mr. Prentice, “there was no boy in the school who learned more rapidly than Henry. From that day till the present hour he has been a student; and he now urges his son George to ‘try again’ as he tried. ”
“And was it indeed you, father?” asked his son, eagerly looking up into the face of his kind parent.
“Yes, my child. That dull boy was your own father in his early years.”
“Then I will try again.” said George, in a decided tone; and, flinging aside his half-made kite, he turned and re-entered the house, and was soon bending in earnest attention over his lesson.
“Well, what success, George?” asked Mr. Prentice, as the family gathered around the tea-table.
“I learned the lesson, father!” replied the boy, “I can say every word of it.”
“Did you find it hard work?”
“Not so very hard, after I had once made up my mind that I would learn it. Indeed I never stopped to think, as I usually do, but went right on until I had mastered every sentence.”
“May you never forget this lesson, my son!” said Mr. Prentice, “You now get the secret of success. It lies in never stopping to think about a task being difficult or tiresome, but in going steadily on, with a fixed determination to succeed.”

There are always lots of strange stories about protecting your eyes. For example, you might have been told that you’d go blind from reading in the dark, but you could make up for it by eating carrots.
This is just one of the wrong ideas you may have heard of. Below teens has picked out scientific explanations for three mistakes the people often make about eyes. Let’s take a look.
Can eating carrots improve your eyesight?
Carrots are rich in Vitamin A, which is important and necessary for your eyes’ general health. Vitamin A helps eyes to make light into signals, allowing people to see in low light conditions. However, eating more carrots doesn’t help you see better. Some carrots will help, but a large number of carrots will not give you superhuman vision or allow you to get rid of your glasses.
If your parents have bad eyesight, will you have bad eyesight, too?
Myopia (近视) can be passed from parents to children. A study by the Americans Optometric Association found that if both parents are myopia, there is a 33 to 60 percent chance that the child is. For children who have one parent with myopia, the chance is 23 to 40 percent, and it’s down to 6 to 15 percent for kids with non﹣myopia parents. So no matter how bad your parents’ eyesight is, you still have a chance having good eyesight.

If the cells don’t respond (反应) in the right way to differences in wavelengths of fight, color blindness happens. There are different levels of color blindness. Some people cannot tell the difference between colors in dim (昏暗的) light, while others have difficulty in any light. In the most serious form of color blindness, everything is seen in shades of grey.
42.Which is the RIGHT idea about eating carrots according to the passage?
A.Eating carrots doesn’t help people see better at all.
B.People need to eat as many carrots as possible.
C.Eating carrots is good for eyes, but people don’t need to eat a lot of them.
D.Eating a lot carrots is only good for those who work in low light condition.
43.Both Tom’s mother and his father are shortsighted. How much could be his chances of having bad eyesight?
A.6-15%. B.33-60%. C.23-40%. D.60-70%.
44.According to the passage, how does the writer describe color blindness?
A.Most people who are color blind can only see grey.
