Shayden Walker, from Amarillo, Texas, went to his neighbour’s house looking for children his age. He stopped by and talked to his neighbour through the family’s front door security camera. His neighbour, Brennan Ray, responded and told him there were some kids nearby. But that wouldn’t do for Shayden. “They’re not my friends anymore because they’re bullies (仗势欺人者),” the boy said. The two carried on a short conversation about whether Ray had kids of his own Shayden could play with. Ray’s daughter is just a baby though, he told the boy.
The conversation inspired Ray to post the video on TikTok, hoping to connect with the boy’s family. “You never know what people are going through until you get a chance to talk to them. This young man is well mannered, kind, and brave. So TikTok, can we help Shayden make some friends?” Ray said in the video. The post got nearly 69 million views.
Shayden was diagnosed with autism (自闭症) and some other mental health disorders, said his mother, Krishna Patterson. “People need to know that these mental health issues can make children, even adults, feel sad and alone. Shayden has had a hard time maintaining friendships and sometimes has ‘meltdowns’ that include crying and accidentally hurting himself and other people who try to calm him down,” she added. When he had these meltdowns, people were like “We don’t want our kids to hang out with your kid”.
After his recent visit to the Rays’ house and hearing from so many kind people, he said he feels “pretty good”. He has made friends all over the world, including from Hawaii, China, Australia and England. Ray and his wife also started a GoFundMe. The page raised over $37,000 for Shayden to go towards whatever he wants, including a gaming setup, school clothes and amusement park (游乐园) tickets. Shayden’s mum said he wants to donate some of the money to some charities.
As for Ray, his video has taught the world a lesson in kindness and acceptance.
4. Why did Shayden go to his neighbour’s house?
A. To test the security camera. B. To report about some bullies.
C. To chat with his neighbour. D. To find someone he can play with.
5. What does Ray think of Shayden after the short conversation?
A Friendly but negative. B. Brave and smart.
C. Caring but dangerous. D. Polite and courageous.
6. What can we know about Shayden from Paragraph 3?
A. He cries all the time. B. He sometimes hurts himself.
C. He behaves just like other kids. D. He can control himself easily.

A rare moss (苔藓) called takakia has adapted over hundreds of millions of years to survive the extremes of life on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. And there is a team of researchers who have been studying the moss for nearly ten years. Takakia includes just two species, both of which are found only on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau.
Takakia in this location has been buried under snow for eight months of the year, and it faced strong UV rays when it came from its snowy cover. Takakia has been developing here for over 65 million years, with the habitat increasingly becoming extreme. The researchers record how climate change has greatly changed the moss’ habitat within just a few years. And the team is surprised to find takakia’s shape in 165 million-year-old fossils (化石) , showing that genetic changes affecting the shape developed more than 165 million years ago under wildly different conditions.
Despite having hundreds of millions of years to adapt to climate change, the little moss will be ended if the global climate keeps getting warmer. Since they began taking measurements of takakia’s habitat in the early 2010s, the researchers have described an average temperature increase of almost 0.5℃ per year. Meanwhile, the glacier (冰川) near sample sites is melting at an alarming pace-around 50 meters per year. The researchers note that takakia’s populations have become significantly smaller over the study period. During the ten years, the coverage of takakia’s populations decreased by 1.6% every year, faster than that of four local common mosses — a trend they expect to continue.
“Our study shows how valuable takakia is in tracing the development of land plants. The population reduction we found is frightening,” a researcher says. “Luckily, knowing that the plant is threatened by extinction also gives us a chance to protect it. For example, we can grow it in the lab,” another researcher says. “Takakia has seen the dinosaurs come and go. It has seen us humans coming. Now we can learn something about adaptive ability and extinction from this moss.”
8. What can be inferred about takakia on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau from the text?
A. Its habitat is free from snow.
B. It has been developing wildly in China.
C. It has adapted to extreme conditions for quite a time.
D. Its genes have been unchanged for millions of years.
9. What might be the main threat to takakia according to paragraph 3?
A. The rise of glacial water. B. Human harvesting.
C. The competition with the local mosses. D. Global warming.
10. What is the attitude of the two researchers in the last paragraph to takakia?
A. Curious. B. Concerned. C. Indifferent. D. Impatient.
11. Which of the following can be the best title for the text?
A. The Ancient History of Takakia B. The Unique Adaptive Ability of Takakia
C. The Threatened Survival of Takakia D. The Rapidly Increasing Population of Takakia
C 9. D 10. B 11. C
根据第一段“A rare moss (苔藓) called takakia has adapted over hundreds of millions of years to survive the extremes of life on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau.(一种名为‘角叶藻苔’的稀有苔藓已经在数亿年的时间里适应了青藏高原极端的生存环境。)”以及第二段“Takakia has been developing here for over 65 million years, with the habitat increasingly becoming extreme.(角叶藻苔已经在这里发展了超过6500万年,其栖息地越来越极端。)”
根据第三段“Despite having hundreds of millions of years to adapt to climate change, the little moss will be ended if the global climate keeps getting warmer.(尽管有数亿年的时间来适应气候变化,但如果全球气候继续变暖,这种小苔藓将会灭绝。)”
根据最后一段“‘Our study shows how valuable takakia is in tracing the development of land plants. The population reduction we found is frightening,’ a researcher says.‘Luckily, knowing that the plant is threatened by extinction also gives us a chance to protect it.
D
A new study looked at data from more than 10,000 12 - and 13-year-olds and their parents, who were asked about their screen-use habits, including texting, social media, video chatting, watching videos and surfing the Internet. The researchers also asked if their screen-use caused problems, like struggling to stop using screens or having trouble with school and daily life.
One key finding stood out: One of the biggest factors of how much time kids spend on screens—and whether that use is problematic—is how much parents themselves use their screens when they are around their kids.
“It’s really important to role-model screen behaviours for your children,” says Jason Nagata, lead author of the study. “Even if teens don’t think they are influenced by their parents, the data shows they are.”
“Instead of beating ourselves up about it,” says Jenny Radesky, a researcher at the University of Michigan, “it’s important for parents to realize that just like kids, we are open to the draws of technology that is purposely designed to keep us scrolling (浏览).”
But even if parents are fighting against bigger forces designed to keep us glued to screens, that doesn’t mean we are completely helpless. Nagata’s research also looked for solutions that worked best to limit screen-use specifically among teenagers because we tend to see kids spending a lot more time on social media once they hit their teenage years.
Keeping meal times and bedtime screen-free helps kids spend less time on screens. Nagata’s earlier research also found that keeping screens out of bedrooms helps kids sleep better. Another key point: When parents use screens too much, kids notice that. Teens often feel their parents are distracted (注意力分散的) and unavailable because they are focused on their own phones. Given the design of technology, Radesky says the message shouldn’t be to blame (指责) the parents. The message should be to talk with your kids about why you feel so pulled in by screens.
12. What were the parents and kids asked to do during the study?
A. Answer some questions. B. Record their daily lives.
C. Send texts to each other. D. Have a chat with friends.
13. Who may be a bigger influence on kids’ screen behaviours according to the study?
A. Classmates. B. Teachers. C. Parents. D. Researchers.
14. What does the underlined word “draws” in paragraph 4 mean?
A. Worries. B. Attractions. C. Principles. D. Achievements.
15. What is the last paragraph mainly about?
A. The primary goals of Nagata’s research. B. Reasons why parents act as a role model.
C. Strategies for limiting screen time for kids. D. The advantages of living a screen-free life.
A 13. C 14. B 15. C
根据第一段中“A new study looked at data from more than 10,000 12 - and 13-year-olds and their parents, who were asked about their screen-use habits, including texting, social media, video chatting, watching videos and surfing the Internet.(一项新的研究调查了1万多名12岁和13岁的孩子及其父母的数据,他们被问及他们的屏幕使用习惯,包括发短信、社交媒体、视频聊天、看视频和上网)”可知,在研究过程中,家长和孩子需要回答若干问题,故选A。
根据第二段“One key finding stood out: One of the biggest factors of how much time kids spend on screens — and whether that use is problematic — is how much parents themselves use their screens when they are around their kids.(一个重要的发现引人注目:决定孩子在屏幕上花费多少时间——以及这种使用是否有问题——的最大因素之一是父母在孩子身边时自己使用屏幕的时间)”可知,研究认为父母对孩子使用电子设备行为的影响更显著,故选C。
根据最后一中“Keeping meal times and bedtime screen-free helps kids spend less time on screens. Nagata’s earlier research also found that keeping screens out of bedrooms helps kids sleep better. Another key point: When parents use screens too much, kids notice that. Teens often feel their parents are distracted (注意力分散的) and unavailable because they are focused on their own phones.

下文“It is an important part of holiday celebrations. It symbolizes love, sharing, and togetherness. (它是节日庆祝的重要组成部分,象征着爱、分享与团聚)”可知,此处需先点明“它”的指代对象。A选项“食物不仅仅是食物”,通过否定式表述引出食物的深层意义,与后文“symbolizes love...”形成逻辑衔接,强调食物的文化和情感价值。故选A。
上文“The act of cooking and sharing meals can strengthen bonds among family members and friends, developing a sense of community and belonging. (烹饪和共享饭菜 的行为可以加强家人和朋友之间的纽带,培养社区感和归属感)”阐述了食物的社交功能,空后“which provide warmth and familiarity (它们提供温暖和熟悉感)”则指向食物的情感属性。E项“此外,许多节日菜肴是我们所说的安慰食品”通过“Moreover”形成递进,“comfort foods”直接呼应后文的“warmth and familiarity”,符合语境。故选E。
【18题详解】
段落首句“Festive foods vary widely around the globe, reflecting local customs and cultural heritage. (全球各地的节日美食差异很大,反映了当地的习俗和文化遗产)”总述节日饮食的地域性,后文需举例支撑。F项“例如,在美国,烤火鸡是感恩节的主食”通过“For example”引出具体国家的案例,与后文意大利、印度等地的例子并列,共同论证首句观点。故选F。
【19题详解】
上文“As we have explored, special foods during the holidays not only nourish (滋养) our bodies but also connect us to our cultural roots and create lasting memories with loved ones.
结合前文“ Celebrate the flavours of your culture and those of others, enriching your holiday experience with pleasing tastes that linger long after the festivities have ended. (庆祝属于你自己文化及其他文化的风味,让愉悦的滋味丰富你的节日体验,使这些味道在庆祝活动结束后仍久久萦绕。)”可知,此处说明节日不仅是传统习俗的传承,更是通过味觉体验打破文化边界的契机。因此推断G项“特殊的节日美食有力量让人们团聚,并创造一生的欢乐时刻”呼应首段“bring families together”和“create lasting memories”,收束全文。故选G。

How is everything going? I’m glad you are interested in Chinese idioms. I’d like to share with you my favorite one: Shui Di Shi Chuan (水滴石穿), literally meaning constant dripping wears away the stone.
This idiom means that constant and persistent effort, even if it seems small or insignificant, can eventually make you achieve remarkable results. It reminds me of my journey learning English. Initially, I struggled with pronunciation and grammar, but through daily practice and perseverance, I have made significant progress. This idiom serves as a powerful reminder that persistence pays off in all areas of life. I hope you find it as inspiring as I do.

When I started my second year of high school, an exciting opportunity came my way: a year-long exchange program in Bath, England. The thought of studying abroad filled me with both excitement and anticipation (期盼). The chance to experience a new culture, improve my English, and make international friends seemed like a dream that comes true.
I managed to apply for a host family, read about rules and how to survive homesickness, and research about Bath on the Internet. With all preparations made, I was on a plane to Bath, my heart racing with a mix of eagerness and nerves.
Upon arrival, the picturesque city with its historic architecture and beautiful streets attracted me. My host family, Mr Smith, Mrs Smith and their son Mark, welcomed me warmly, which immediately put me at ease. After my settlement at their home, I quickly found comfort in my new surroundings.
Then came my first week at school, which, however, turned out to be a whirlwind (一片忙乱) besides a feeling of freshness. The education system was different from what I was used to in my hometown. Classes were more discussion-based and I was encouraged to express my opinions, which I wasn’t comfortable with at first. My teachers and classmates were friendly and curious about my background, often asking questions about my life in China. However, I struggled to keep up with the fast-paced (快节奏的) conversations. The British accent, with its unique slang (俚语), often made it hard for me to understand. There were moments in class when I felt lost, unable to fully understand the discussions or contribute meaningfully. This was frustrating (令人沮丧的), as I had always been a top student back home.
Along with the new experience at school, homesickness began to set in. I missed my family, friends, and the familiar rhythm (节奏) of life back in China. The cultural differences, from food to social rules, made me hard to get used to at times. I found myself missing a taste of my home, both physically and mentally.

1. 续写词数应为150个左右;

___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Recognizing my struggle, people around me stepped in to support me. On weekends, Mr Smith would take me on a trip to many attractions, some even I had only read about in textbooks. Mrs Smith went out of her way to make me feel at home by cooking Chinese dishes. Mike shared his own experiences of studying abroad to comfort me. At school, my teachers were patient and understanding, offering extra help with assignments and encouraging me to join clubs to make new friends. My classmates invited me to see movies, play hockey, and go to concerts. Everyone was warm, open, and never hesitant in offering help.
Gradually, I began to adapt to (适应) the life here. I offered to share Chinese culture with my host family. I joined the school’s debate club, which helped me improve my English and gain confidence in speaking. I also participated in a local volunteer group, where I met people from different backgrounds, each with their own unique stories. These experiences broadened my perspective and helped me feel more connected to my new environment. As the months passed, Bath began to feel like a second home. I developed a close connection with people here that I knew would last a lifetime.

Takakia in this location has been buried under snow for eight months of the year and it faced strong UV rays when it came from its snowy cover.

When I started my second year of high school, an exciting opportunity came my way: a year-long exchange program in Bath, England. The thought of studying abroad filled me with both excitement and anticipation (期盼). The chance to experience a new culture, improve my English, and make international friends seemed like a dream that comes true.
I managed to apply for a host family read about rules and how to survive homesickness, and research about Bath on the Internet.

1. 续写词数应为150个左右;
