Last year, director Zhang Yimou said that people should visit cinemas instead off just watching movies through 3-minute short videos. Do you agree with him?
People watch movies to feel the emotions (情绪). This makes people want to discuss movies deeply. However, short videos don’t let us feel these emotions, so we miss the great experience of watching a full movie. Also, short videos might have mistakes. Watching movies from beginning to the end is better.
Shao Xinyan, 13,Hubei
Short videos help us know the true meaning of the movie and make it more convenient to get information. If someone doesn’t have time to watch a full movie or finds it boring, short videos help save time and money. In this case, short videos help people enjoy movies and save their energy.
Cui Luoyao, 14, Beijing
Great movies have special details (细节) that can’t be shown in a few minutes. Also everyone has different opinions on movies. Some may believe a movie is a must-see, but others may say it is bad. If we just follow what short video makers say, we may miss some great movies. We should watch the movies ourselves to make our own judgement.
Wang Jiayi, 15, Shandong
Short movie videos can tell us the major (主要的) parts of a movie that interest you, which helps you forget about worries in your busy life for a while. Also, different video makers tell a movie story in their own ways. By listening to these different takes on the story, we can get a better understanding of the movies.

A. They may provide wrong information. B. They help us understand movies better.
C. They can not show special details well. D. They save people’s time and money.
3. In which part of a newspaper can we read the text?
A. Story Time. B. School Events. C. Travel for Fun. D. Show Your Points.

Do students in your country worry about how they look? What makes them feel this way? What do you think about it?
In Sweden, many students worry about that. Social media is a big reason. The pictures online often show people who look perfect. Students compare themselves with these pictures and feel nervous. We need more real and different kinds of beauty in the media. Also, learn to accept ourselves and think carefully about what we see online.
Folke Borgstrom,18, Sweden
In my class, not many classmates worry about that. In Singapore, people are from many different cultures, so there are many different ideas of beauty. People won’t stop being your friend just because of how you look. In Singapore, schools let students truly be themselves, and people care more about your personality (性格).
Huang Luofei,13, Singapore
Many students in Mexico feel nervous about that. I’ve seen classmates get anxious (焦虑的) when they get pimples on faces. Others talk about makeup skills in the restroom. I think things like social pressure from friends, bullying and seeing stars influence these feelings. Remember, nobody is perfect, and it’s OK to look different.

The population of tigers in India has doubled over 12 years, according to a government report. The big cats’ numbers rose from 1,706 tigers in 2010 to 3,682 in 2022. This means that about 75% of the world’s tigers now live in the country.
In India, tigers have disappeared from some areas as humans have cut down forests and other natural lands in order to build cities, homes, and farms. Today, tigers in India share 3% of their habitat (栖息地) with about 60 million people. This has brought the animals closer to human areas in search of food, which has led to fights between the people and the big cats.
Since 1973, the Indian government has been working to save the animals through a program called Project Tiger. It has created strong laws and increased the number of tiger protected areas from nine to more than 1 all over the country.
Conservation organizations (保护组织) have also been working to protect habitats, support tiger populations, and help people live peacefully alongside tigers. This includes educating people about the animals and providing money for farmers whose animals are killed by the big cats.
Researchers said the results showed that conservation can do good to both animals and people and that the two can live successfully even when they live close together. “What the research shows is that it's not the human population, but the attitude (态度) of people, that matters more,” said Yadvendradev V. Jhala, the study’s lead author.
1. What’s the number of tigers living in the world now?
A. 1,706. B. About 2000. C. 3,682. D. About 4900.
2. What do conservation organizations do to protect tigers?
A. Make laws. B. Build farmhouses. C. Educate people. D. Increase protected areas.
3. What is the best title for the text?
A. Tigers are growing fast in India B. Wildlife protection projects in India
C. Tigers are disappearing in the world D. Wildlife protection organizations in the world

I’m Patrick Williams, from Suzhou Student Post. This is the column (栏目) where you can tell me what you would like to change about yourself. Welcome to leave your messages.

Li Jing
I want to change my bad temper (脾气) most. I get angry too easily, and hurt the people I love. For example, when my mom cares about me, I often complain she talks too much. Sometimes, I even fight with her. But deep down, I know she loves me a lot. I shouldn’t behave like that. I really want to work on my temper and be kinder to the people I love.

Wang Di
The only thing I am not pleased with about myself is my teeth. My front teeth are so big that they almost look like buckteeth (龅牙). When I take photos, I avoid giving big smiles. I am also afraid that my classmates will laugh at me. If I had smaller teeth like other people, I would be very happy.

Peng Yucheng, 16, Guangdong
1. Which two students agree with Zhang Yimou?
A. Shao Xinyan and Cui Luoyao. B. Shao Xinyan and Wang Jiayi.
C. Cui Luoyao and Wang Jiayi. D. Cui Luoyao and Peng Yucheng.
2. What does Peng Yucheng think of short videos?
A. They may provide wrong information. B. They help us understand movies better.
C. They can not show special details well. D. They save people’s time and money.
3. In which part of a newspaper can we read the text?
A. Story Time. B. School Events. C. Travel for Fun. D. Show Your Points.
【答案】1. B 2. B 3. D
【解析】本文通过学生辩论的形式,探讨了短视频与影院观影的优劣。

2.细节理解题。根据Peng Yucheng的观点“By listening to these different takes on the story, we can get a better understanding of the movies.”可知,他认为短视频能通过不同创作者的解读帮助观众更好地理解电影。故选B。

Yin Peixin,14, Mexico
