二、阅读理解(40分)
第一节 阅读下列短文,从下面每小题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中,选出最佳选项。(共15小题,每小题1.5分)
A
Everywhere I look, new buildings are rising up. The old neighborhoods from my childhood, once filled with historic houses, are disappearing. People are replacing them with tall modern buildings because they want the comforts of modern life.
But here’s a problem: How can young people learn about their cultural heritage if old buildings are destroyed? Saving old buildings isn’t just about missing the past. It also makes good economic sense. Restoring historic areas can develop economy by attracting tourists and small businesses. For example, Dubai’s Al Bastikiya area draws many visitors and locals who want to learn about the city’s history.
Some say saving old buildings is too expensive, but this isn’t true. Fixing an old building for new uses can be cheaper than building a new one. New buildings require materials to be transported long distances, which harms the environment. Old buildings reuse materials already there, making them eco-friendly.
We recycle paper and plastic in our daily lives, and the same principle should be applied to buildings. Saving old ones creates opportunities, but breaking them down is forever. Once gone, they can’t be replaced, and we lose a piece of our history. Choosing to save or destroy isn’t just about money-it’s about protecting our heritage.
11.What drives people to replace old buildings with new ones?
A.Their dislike of old buildings. B.Their pride in cultural identity.
C.Their concern about young generations. D.Their desire for modern comforts.
12.What does the example of Al Bastikiya show?
A.Fixing old buildings costs much money.
B.Local governments support small businesses.
C.Historic protection brings economic growth.
D.International tourism promises economic recovery.
13.Why does the author compare recycling buildings to recycling paper/plastic?
A.To prove recycling is easy in our daily lives.
B.To show that old things should be reused.
C.To explain why new buildings are better.
D.To encourage people to recycle paper and plastic.
14.What is the author’s attitude towards old buildings’ protection?
A.Positive. B.Doubtful. C.Disappointed. D.Uncertain.
15.What is the main idea of the passage?
A.The cost of building modern houses. B.The importance of saving old buildings.
C.The history behind historic buildings D.The ways to recycle and save old things.
B
Look at the picture. A girl is spinning a hula hoop, one of the most famous toys in history. Hula hoops can date back to 500 BC as a form of cultural activity or exercise. But we didn’t fully understand how hula hoop stays up or why some people are naturally good at it until recently.
In 2024, a team from New York University made progress. They used 3D-printed robots of different shapes, like cylinders and hourglasses (圆筒和沙漏). Engines made these robots spin hula hoops. By recording the movements with high-speed cameras and studying them with software, scientists found two key points.
First, for stable (稳定的) spinning, the hoop must start spinning fast enough in the same direction as the robot’s body. The centrifugal force and friction (离心力和摩擦力) work together to keep the hoop stable. Second, robots with hourglass shapes were best at keeping the hoop up for a long time. Their “hips” push up the hoop, and their “curved waist” holds it in place.
These findings suggest that people with hourglass shapes may be natural hoopers. But don’t worry. “Real humans aren’t robots. Anyone can learn with practice!” says Leif Ristroph, one of the scientists.
Before the research, considering hula hoop’s long history, people might think hula hoops had already been studied to death. But the findings not only help to explain the familiar but poorly understood activity but may also point to some possible uses in life.
16.What is mentioned about hula hoops in paragraph 1?
A.The practice skills. B.The cultural importance.
C.The famous inventor. D.The unanswered questions.
17.What is the main idea of paragraph 2?
A.How the research was recorded. B.How the research was carried out.
C.What problems the researchers met. D.What results the researchers have got.
18.Which of the robots can keep hula hoop spinning stably?
A. B. C. D.
19.What can we tell from Leif’s words?
A.Robots can help people play hula hoops better.
B.Hula hoop movement can be done with practice.
C.Humans are different from robots in doing sports.
D.People with hourglass shapes do well in hula hoops.
20.What will probably be discussed in the following paragraphs?
A.Hula hoops’ unknown truth. B.Ways to build hourglass shape.
C.Examples with similar rules. D.Secrets to be good hula hoopers.

During this year’s Spring Festival, Mount Tai in Shandong began using special robotic suits to help people hike. It is designed for elderly visitors or those who have difficulty in moving. The 1.8-kilogram smart suits are worn around the waist (腰部) and legs. They use AI to sense movements and help users walk more easily so it can reduce tiredness and joint (关节) pain.
Starting on January 29, ten suits were tested. Over 200 visitors paid about 70 yuan each time to try the suits during the holiday. Half of the tourists were elderly. A 68-year-old man said, “It felt like being pulled up the mountain, so my legs stopped hurting.” Officials said these suits allow elderly tourists to hike and see more views than cable cars, because they may cover up the views.
The test was a success, and there’s a big need for this kind of help. China’s aging population is booming. 310 million people were over 60 in 2024, and the number will rise to over 400 million by 2035. To meet elderly users’ need, tech companies will make lighter and smarter suits to help with walking and climbing. The government also supports this through new plans, like encouraging smart health care and cheaper tech for the elderly.
As more old people will need help in the future, these suits can surely make it easier for the elderly to get around and enjoy life.
21.How can the special robotic suits help people hike?
A.By taking photos and recording views. B.By providing light and showing the way.
C.By sensing movements and helping walk. D.By carrying things and saving strength.
22.Why does the writer mention cable cars in Paragraph 2?
A.To explain why young visitors prefer them.
B.To show that robotic suits offer better views.
C.To compare their speed with robotic suits.
D.To question their safety for elderly tourists.
23.What does the underlined word “booming” mean in Paragraph 3?
A.Growing quickly. B.Becoming successful. C.Getting healthier. D.Finding solution.
24.Why will tech companies develop lighter robotic suits?
A.To attract younger hikers. B.To reduce production time.
C.To meet elderly users’ needs better. D.To compete with other tech companies.
25.What is this passage mainly about?
A.How elderly people reduce weight and pain.
B.How AI helps tech companies make products.
C.How robotic suits help keep fit in daily life.
D.How technology helps China’s aging population.

2024 is the Year of Loong. In the new year, I will get over my bad habits, such as making careless mistakes, going to school late, and so on. I want to be an excellent student.
I wish you a happy New Year.
Yours,
Li Hua

15.What is the main idea of the passage?
