I often wake up to my alarm after a short night and step out of bed to a day I’ve fought through countless times. I rush my morning routine and run to my car. My radio switches to my favorite song, but I have to listen to an audible book for an assignment due tomorrow.
When I get to school, I start with Spanish, my hardest class. Despite being around all year, I have no clue what’s going on. I then walk to my English class, in which I was stuck in the language rules. The assignments take much energy that my perfectionist nature is unable to take on in school, so I save them for later, most probably late at night.
This is my reality as a student with dyslexia, a learning disorder in reading and spelling: assignments that take three times as long as they’ re meant to, late nights and early mornings to even slightly keep up with my classes.
I was told that Advanced Placement U. S. History would be my hardest class. But here, I am in my element. Despite being three assignments behind, I’m actively engaged. Yes, my passion for history heightens my focus, but my teacher’s willingness to work with me is what allows me to fly high.
Teachers need to offer alternative structures that make learning more accessible. I’ve had teachers who teach lecture-based classes where students are expected to take notes and listen. As a student with dyslexia, this doesn’t work. A fix for that is as simple as providing alternative resources: a slide show students can go back to after class, or perhaps even an activity that further plays with the concepts.
Now, many schools are shifting to approaches that meet the needs of all kids. However, advocacy work can still be done to support students with dyslexia. If school systems are willing to provide support and education by creating an accessible class structure from the start, students won’t be stuck into academic tracks that don’t push them to their full potential.

I thought it was disappointing that I could only do two, but when I finished my workout in the gym on day four, he was standing there just waving his hand at me. He further told me that if I practiced every day, I would be doing 5 or 6 in no time. At this point I should probably add that I am 50 years old… and female.
I have a new approach now. I have experienced first hand how good it feels to rush in so innocently. To trust that we can do it and go on to accomplish exactly what we set out to do, as no one tells us we can’t. I’ve learned how crucial it is to support others and ourselves in our attempts and to let them know that we believe they can do it rather than telling them we think that they can’t.

One of my earliest memories is of my father sitting me down at our kitchen table with canvases, paints, and brushes. He taught me how to blend colors and use various materials such as acrylic (丙烯酸的) paints and watercolors. Whenever we felt inspired, we would set out all our materials and paint whatever our hearts desired.
My father grew up in a small village in the Dominican Republic. Despite the scarcity of materials, he created art with whatever was at hand. He saved his money to purchase paints and colored pencils to sketch on the walls around his home. When he was 15, he arrived in America alone and stayed with his aunt in Florida for a while before completing high school in New York with another aunt. He studied extremely hard and eventually obtained his citizenship.
As I grew older, I developed a fondness for drawing people, as I could emphasize the unique physical features that make each person special and beautiful. However, as time went on, I began to be overly critical of my own work. I worried that I could never match my father’s talent. My simple, two-dimensional drawings seemed lackluster compared to his realistic landscapes. I found faults in all my creations, so I became increasingly insecure. Art, which was once my favorite thing, made me feel I wasn’t good at it. Instead of striving to improve, I gave up and stopped drawing.
He noticed it and told me, “Mia, you should audition for the school. I wish I’d had an opportunity to study art like this when I was a child”. Moved by his story and determination, I worked on my portfolio and was fortunate to get in.
Attending the art college was an eye-opening experience. I expanded my artistic range beyond painting. I learned to embrace my individuality and talent, and became more open to sharing my artworks and accepting constructive criticism, thereby boosting my self-esteem regarding my art.
9.What’s the purpose of the author’s introducing her father’s experience in Paragraph 2?
A.To prove that art is the only way to combat poverty.
B.To illustrate the roots of her father’s influence on her.
C.To criticize the lack of educational chances in rural areas.
D.To contrast her life with the difficulties her father endured.
10.Why did the author stop drawing for a while?
A.Because the author thought she couldn’t be as good as her father.
B.Because the author didn’t like art anymore.
C.Because the author didn’t have enough art supplies.
D.Because the author was too busy with schoolwork.
11.What kind of person is the author’s father?
A.Brave and carefree. B.Persistent and supportive.
C.Ambitious but dependent. D.Creative but stubborn.
12.What’s the author’s opinion expressed in the passage?
A.Art is about following established rules. B.Talent guarantees admission to art programs.
C.Confidence comes from accepting imperfection. D.Progress can be achieved through trial and error.

In a heartwarming display of community spirit, six student lacrosse (长曲棍球) players from Roslyn High School in New York have come together to make sports more accessible for people with disabilities. The initiative, dubbed" Lacrosse My Heart," was started by a group of teenagers who were inspired to create a more inclusive environment for their peers with disabilities.
The program focuses on adapting lacrosse, a popular sport in the area, to meet the needs of individuals with physical and cognitive disabilities. The students have designed specialized equipment and rules to ensure that everyone can participate, regardless of their abilities. Jim Curry lights a stove in the parking lot of Christ Episcopal Church in Guilford. It’ll get up to 2,000 degrees, hot enough to soften the metal of shotgun parts so they can be reshaped.
A crowd is watching, and Curry picks out a 9-year-old named Oliver to help him. “This is really magic,” Curry says. “Right before your very eyes, you’re gonna see Oliver transform this gun, this instrument of potential harm, into something that could never be a gun ever again. It’s gonna be a trowel (泥铲), which could be used to plant flowers in a garden.”
“It is exciting,” Oliver says. “I love the fact that you can take metal that’s random and shape it into something useful.”
Curry, a retired priest, is a co-founder of Swords to Plowshares (犁) Northeast, the organization putting on this event, which helps police departments manage their gun buyback programs and repurpose the weapons into gardening tools.
The finished tools are donated to community gardens and agricultural high schools and the harvested vegetables donated to soup kitchens and homeless shelters, according to the group’s website.
Retired priest Mary Ann first volunteered with Swords to Plowshares when a family member fell victim to gun violence. She helps collect guns through police buybacks. “When there’s such despair now in our country, people need to know that we can change. There is hope,” she says.
Curry wears a constant reminder of that hope around his neck. It’s two large pieces of metal molded into the shape of a cross. “It’s made out of pieces of an AK-47 used for killing”, he says. “But God’s love breaks it apart, reshapes it, then transforms it into the sign of greatest hope — the cross. Anyone keen to view from on high the prosperous cityscape of Guangdong, may soon can do so from the cabin of a flying taxi. On October 13th the Civil Aviation (航空) Administration of China (CAAC) awarded a “type certificate” to the world’s first electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) taxi. And the small two-seater, called the EH216-S, was also permitted to fly without a pilot on board.
The EH216-S is made by EHang, a company based in Guangdong. It looks like a large consumer drone with a passenger bubble installed on top. Propulsion (推动力) is provided by 16 small rotors (转子), installed on the tips of eight arms that fold away when the vehicle is not in use, allowing it to park in small spaces.
The CAAC gave its approval after EHang had conducted more than 40,000 test flights, including with volunteer passengers in 18 cities across China. It also monitored the EH216-S to structural analysis and crash tests, and checked its ability to keep flying if one of its rotors fails. Regulators (监管机构) also inspected the wireless network EHang uses to link its flying taxis to a control centre on the ground. That allows backup pilots to land an aircraft by remote control if there is a problem.
EHang says its pilotless eVTOLs will be quieter than helicopters and much cheaper to operate, thanks to the ability to swap out an expensive pilot for a second paying passenger. The firm also thinks that doing away with pilots will make things safer. A computer’s attention never swings, and its reaction operate at a high speed. And it is much easier to automate than driving, for there are fewer barriers and unexpected situations to navigate.
EHang has ambitions beyond China, too. It has carried out demonstration flights in Amèrica and Europe with the aim of obtaining type certificates in both markets. But their regulators both have signalled that they will allow autonomous flights only after the vehicles have proved themselves safe in human hands.
29.Which of the following best describes EH216-S?
A.EH216-S has a high safety factor than pilot driving.
B.EH216-S requires the pilots to land by remote control.
C.EH216-S taking is more expensive due to automation.
D.EH216-S looks like a consumer drone with foldable rotors.
30.What can be inferred from the last paragraph?
A.The firm has gained type certificates in both markets.
B.The two countries’ regulators are likely to be careless.
C.Ehang is not alone in expanding the overseas markets.
D.Ehang may make more efforts to get widely recognized.
31.Which is the main idea of the text?
A.The test of pilotless aircrafts.
B.The history of two seats and no pilot.
C.The advantages of pilotless flying taxi.
D.The approval of the world’s first flying taxi.
32.What’s the attitude of author towards EH216-S?
A.Favorable. B.Objective. C.Negative. D.Critical.

根据第二段“The assignments take much energy that my perfectionist nature is unable to take on in school, so I save them for later, most probably late at night.(这些作业要耗费大量精力,以我这种追求完美的性格在学校里根本无法完成,所以我就把它们留到以后做,很可能是留到深夜才做)”以及第三段“This is my reality as a student with dyslexia, a learning disorder in reading and spelling: assignments that take three times as long as they’ re meant to, late nights and early mornings to even slightly keep up with my classes.(这就是我作为一名患有诵读困难症(一种在阅读和拼写方面的学习障碍)的学生所面临的现实:完成作业所花费的时间是正常情况下的三倍,为了勉强跟上课程进度,常常熬夜到很晚,清晨又得早起)”可知,作者是阅读和拼写方面有学习障碍的诵读困难症患者,作业要花费比正常多三倍的时间,而且由于他完美主义的性格,在学校没有精力完成作业,所以要留到晚上,是为了有足够时间把作业做好。故选B。
根据划线词下文“Despite being three assignments behind, I’m actively engaged. Yes, my passion for history heightens my focus, but my teacher’s willingness to work with me is what allows me to fly high.(尽管我已经落后了三项作业,但我依然积极投入学习。没错,我对历史的热爱让我更加专注,但真正让我能够展翅高飞的是我的老师愿意给予我帮助)”可知,作者虽然落后了三项作业,但他积极参与,对历史的热情提高了他的注意力,老师也愿意帮助他,所以他在这门课上感觉很自在、如鱼得水。A选项“开夜车”;C选项 “心里七上八下”;D选项“贪多嚼不烂”均不符合语境。划线词组in my element与Feeling like a fish in water.“感觉如鱼得水”意思一致。故选B。
根据倒数第二段“I’ve had teachers who teach lecture-based classes where students are expected to take notes and listen. As a student with dyslexia, this doesn’t work.(我遇到过一些老师,他们采用以讲授为主的授课方式,要求学生边听边做笔记。但作为一名患有诵读困难症的学生,这种方式对我并不奏效)”可知,作者认为以讲座为主的课程,要求学生记笔记和听讲,对于有诵读困难症的他来说行不通,说明这种课程对他要求过高,很难做到。故选C。
4.细节理解题。根据第五段“Teachers need to offer alternative structures that make learning more accessible.(教师们需要提供可供选择的教学架构,以使学习变得更容易上手)”以及“A fix for that is as simple as providing alternative resources: a slide show students can go back to after class, or perhaps even an activity that further plays with the concepts.(解决这个问题的方法很简单,那就是提供可替代的学习资源:比如学生课后可以回顾的幻灯片演示,又或者是开展一项能进一步加深对相关概念理解的活动)”可知,作者建议老师提供可替代的学习结构和资源,让学习更容易进行。故选A。

C.Negative. D.Critical.

Propulsion (推动力) is provided by 16 small rotors (转子), installed on the tips of eight arms that fold away when the vehicle is not in use, allowing it to park in small spaces.(它看起来像一架大型消费级无人机,顶部安装了一个乘客舱。
根据最后一段中“EHang has ambitions beyond China, too. It has carried out demonstration flights in Amèrica and Europe with the aim of obtaining type certificates in both markets. But their regulators both have signalled that they will allow autonomous flights only after the vehicles have proved themselves safe in human hands.(亿航在中国以外也有野心。它已在美洲和欧洲进行了示范飞行,目的是在这两个市场获得型号证书。但两国的监管机构都表示,只有在车辆被证明在人类手中是安全的之后,他们才会允许自动飞行)”可知,亿航要想在美洲和欧洲获得型号证书必须先证明EH216-S在人类手中是安全,由此推知,亿航要想获得广泛认可,可能还要做出更多努力。故选D项。
31.主旨大意题。通读全文,结合第一段中“Anyone keen to view from on high the prosperous cityscape of Guangdong, may soon can do so from the cabin of a flying taxi. On October 13th the Civil Aviation (航空) Administration of China (CAAC) awarded a “type certificate” to the world’s first electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL)taxi. And the small two-seater, called the EH216-S, was also permitted to fly without a pilot on board.(任何渴望从高处俯瞰广东繁华城市景观的人,可能很快就可以在飞行出租车的机舱里实现这一目标了。10月13日,中国民用航空局(CAAC)为世界上第一辆电动垂直起降(eVTOL)出租车颁发了“型号证书”。这架名为EH216-S的小型双座飞机也被允许在没有飞行员的情况下飞行)”可知,文章主要报道了世界上第一架电动垂直起降出租车EH216-S获得了中国民航局颁发的“型号证书”,允许无人驾驶。所以“The approval of the world’s first flying taxi.(世界上第一辆飞行出租车获批)”是文章主要内容。故选D项。
通读全文,结合第一段中“Anyone keen to view from on high the prosperous cityscape of Guangdong, may soon can do so from the cabin of a flying taxi.(任何渴望从高处俯瞰广东繁华城市景观的人,可能很快就可以在飞行出租车的机舱里实现这一目标了)”和第三段中“EHang says its pilotless eVTOLs will be quieter than helicopters and much cheaper to operate, thanks to the ability to swap out an expensive pilot for a second paying passenger.(亿航表示,它的无人驾驶evtol将比直升机更安静,而且运营成本要低得多,因为它可以用另一名付费乘客取代一名昂贵的飞行员)”可知,文中作者描述了EH216-S带来的好处和优势,并未提及它的缺点。 故选A项。
