Maggie had no school, no bed and no food. After seeing the DVD, Austin couldn’t help thinking how awful his life would be without his parents. He was really touched by Maggie’s story, calling it his “Maggie moment”, which opened Austin’s eyes to the millions of AIDS orphans (孤儿) in Zambia. After begging his dad to let him do something, Austin was put in touch with World Vision. Dana Buck from the organization suggested Austin take something he was passionate about to raise money. Austin loved basketball and decided to hold a fund-raising event where he would shoot free throws for money. Originally, he called it “Baskets of Hope” and decided to hold it on World AIDS Day. Austin shot 2,057 free throws on the scheduled day, representing the 2,057 kids who would be orphaned during a six-hour school day by AIDS. Individuals in his community agreed to sponsor him by raising over $3,000, enough to help eight orphans. But Austin wasn’t satisfied. “That very first year I didn’t really think much toward the future” said Austin. “The second year I wanted to get 1,000 of my friends to join me.” That year Austin changed the name of his project into “Hoops for Hope”. He, along with his dad, went around to dozens of churches and schools and told them about it. Austin reached his goal: 1,000 friends shooting free throws for orphans. The third year, in 2006, Austin raised enough funds to build a school in Zambia. In 2007, they raised over $200,000 for a medical testing center in Sinazongwe. And in 2008 they raised $290,000 for a second medical center, along with 1,000 caregiver kits and 1,000 bicycles for caregivers in Zambia. Now the young man’s charity has gone global and raised more than $2.5 million. More than 40,000 people in 27 countries have participated. All funds raised through the free throw marathons go directly to care for orphan children in AIDS-affected areas. “What I’ve learned from doing Hoops for Hope is that it can take just one kid to make a difference,” he explained. “One kid just has to have a passion. You can make a difference in the lives of anybody, just by wanting to do something.” 1. What inspired Austin to raise funds for the orphans in Zambia? A. His father’s encouragement. B. The bonds between friends. C. Maggie’s story. D. His passion for basketball. 2. What can be inferred from Paragraph 4? A. Austin was unwilling to get support from his father. B. The project grew successfully with joint efforts. C. Austin was ambitious about the project at the very beginning. D. Funds Austin raised were provided for medical centers in 2006. 3. Which of the following words can best describe Austin? A. Humorous and friendly. B. Brave and considerate. C. Determined and inspiring. D. Optimistic and adventurous. 4. What message does the passage mainly convey? A. Virtue has its own reward. B. Failure is the mother of success. C. Kill two birds with one stone. D. A small act will make a great difference. C 2. B 3. C 4. 根据文章第二段中“He was really touched by Maggie’s story, calling it his “Maggie moment”, which opened Austin’s eyes to the millions of AIDS orphans (孤儿) in Zambia.(他真的被麦琪的故事感动了,称之为他的‘麦琪时刻’,这让奥斯汀看到了赞比亚数百万艾滋病孤儿。)” 根据第四段““That very first year I didn’t really think much toward the future,” said Austin. The third year, in 2006, Austin raised enough funds to build a school in Zambia.( ‘第一年,我并没有对未来想太多。’ 根据第三段中“Dana Buck from the organization suggested Austin take something he was passionate about to raise money. Austin loved basketball and decided to hold a fund-raising event where he would shoot free throws for money. Originally, he called it “Baskets of Hope” and decided to hold it on World AIDS Day.(该组织的达纳·巴克建议奥斯汀做一些他热衷的事情来筹集资金。 B Humans have always assumed that there is a huge gulf between animal behavior and human development. However, recent research into animals shows that animals are continuously designing innovative methods to finish their tasks. Examining the nature and results of their creativity can help us understand evolution. Research shows that animals too can be creative. By inventing new behavioral patterns and adjusting their behavior to new contexts, as well as to changes in social and ecological environments, researchers show that animal innovation too can be diverse. For instance, chimpanzees (猩猩) use tools such as sharp spines and stalks to remove the hearts of palm vegetables from trees. Herring gulls (鲜鱼海鸥) found out quite a cruel way of killing rabbits-drowning them in the sea. Innovative species tend to survive when they enter new places, but novel behavior cannot be recognized unless “normal” behavior is studied. Researchers can now count and document the innovations that have been created by species, which would help them to quantify their creativity. Studies also show us that all animals are not equally inventive, with primates (灵长目动物) tending to be more innovative due to their bigger brains. The greatest scientific significance has been the innovation shown by animals such as apes, capuchins and macaques among primates. These species of primates possess the biggest brains in proportion to their body sizes. They are also heavy tool users. Their broad diets and complex forms of learning are also insightful. They indicate an evolutionary strategy that gave them new solutions to life’s challenges. However, even if these animals show innovativeness, they do not have the ability to improve upon solutions of others. Unless they share information accurately and copy each other’s inventions. their creative inventions are likely to vanish before they can be innovated further. This ability can be managed only by humans, for we are able to build on shared knowledge. 5. What does the underlined word “gulf” in the first paragraph mean? A. Difference. B. Conflict. C. Balance. D. Connection. 6. Why does the author mention “chimpanzees” and “Herring gulls” in Paragraph 2? A. They are both creative. B. They are both heavy tool users. C. They create innovations in different ways. D. They kill other animals in the same cruel way. 7. What can we learn about animal creativity? A. It is equally distributed among animals. B. It helps animals adapt to the environment. C. Animals’ innovations are easy to be identified. D. Animals’ innovations are facing huge challenges. 8. What aspect of animals does the last paragraph mainly talk about? A. Their ability to share information accurately. B. Their willingness to learn from each other. C. Their inability to take creativity forward. D. Their unwillingness to cooperate effectively. A 6. C 7. B 8. 根据文章第一段“However, recent research into animals shows that animals are continuously designing innovative methods to finish their tasks.(然而,最近对动物的研究表明,动物在不断地设计创新的方法来完成它们的任务。)” 故选A项。 根据文章第二段“Research shows that animals too can be creative. By inventing new behavioral patterns and adjusting their behavior to new contexts, as well as to changes in social and ecological environments, researchers show that animal innovation too can be diverse.(研究表明,动物也有创造力。通过发明新的行为模式,调整它们的行为以适应新的环境,以及社会和生态环境的变化,研究人员表明,动物的创新也可以是多样化的。)”可知研究表明,动物的创新也可以是多样化的,而后文为了证明这一点举了两个例子——猩猩和鲜鱼海鸥,而这也就说明了猩猩和鲜鱼海鸥在以不同的方式进行创新。故选C项。 【7题详解】 推理判断题。根据文章第四段“Their broad diets and complex forms of learning are also insightful. They indicate an evolutionary strategy that gave them new solutions to life’s challenges.(它们广泛的饮食和复杂的学习形式也很有见地。它们表明了一种进化策略,为它们提供了应对生活挑战的新方法。)”可知动物的创造力代表了一种进化策略,而这种进化使得动物们更加灵活地适应环境。故选B项。 【8题详解】 主旨大意题。根据文章最后一段“However, even if these animals show innovativeness, they do not have the ability to improve upon solutions of others. Unless they share information accurately and copy each other’s inventions. their creative inventions are likely to vanish before they can be innovated further. This ability can be managed only by humans, for we are able to build on shared knowledge.(然而,即使这些动物表现出创新能力,它们也没有能力改进其它动物的解决方案。除非它们准确地共享信息并复制彼此的发明。它们的创造性发明很可能在进一步创新之前就消失了。这种能力只能由人类来管理,因为我们能够建立在共享知识的基础上。)”可知动物不能像人类那样共享知识,也就意味着它们不能改进其它动物的解决方案,所以最后一段主要讲的是动物不能改进它们的创造力。故选C项。 C Whenever I order food for delivery, I play a little game to guess how many sets of tableware (餐具) the restaurant will provide with my meal. Sometimes restaurants will throw in two, three or four sets for just one order. But I rarely need any tableware at all, and the waste goes into the trash or collects dust in a kitchen drawer. Researchers working with Chinese technology group Alibaba tried a simple approach to this problem. Instead of just wastefully giving out tableware, the company required food-delivery customers in some cities in China to pick how many sets of tableware they wanted to receive. The default (默认设置) was set at zero. The result, published today in the journal Science, was a 638% increase in the share of no-tableware orders. If applied across China, researchers found, the approach would save nearly 22 billion sets of plastic tableware. The study doesn’t cover carbon emissions, but it’s safe to say that the impact would be significant. It struck me as a useful reminder of the many low-hanging fruits across the economy that can cut waste, and emissions. Nudging its customers cost Alibaba nothing more than a few hours of software engineering time and the impact it brought was enormous. The concept of nudging comes from the field of behavioral economics known as nudge theory. It suggests that a slight action can encourage good human behavior without the need for policies that limit choice or economic punishment. To nudge customers to eat better, for example, a restaurant might organize its menu by listing healthy options first and bury unhealthy ones at the bottom. More recently, some big companies like Google have also begun to use nudges to advance climate goals. Nudging theory isn’t without controversy. Some might think it gives consumers responsibility for addressing environmental challenges. But there is another way to look at it. In the absence of necessary policy—and policy is needed — companies can help encourage a widespread change of consumer behavior. And all of that behavioral change can add up. The International Energy Agency found in2021 that small behavioral changes in energy consumption such as walking instead of driving and adjusting the thermostat (恒温器) could in total reduce 4% of global emissions. The more companies can do to support such changes, the better. 9. What did Alibaba do with tableware waste? A. It stopped restaurants from handing out tableware. B. It recycled unused tableware from customers. C. It updated the food-delivery device regularly. D. It allowed picking tableware at customers’ demand. 10. What do the underlined words “low-hanging fruits” mean in paragraph 2? A. Easily accessible things. B. Fast increasing orders. C. Extremely tough choices. D. Widely accepted strategies. 11. What can we learn about nudge theory from paragraph 3? A. It brings about economic loss. B. It results from consumption policies. C. It indicates small action changes behaviour. D. It implies bad behaviour impacts economy. 12. What is the main idea of the text? A. Nudge theory affects behaviors. B. Good behaviors boost economy. C. Nudging helps build a greener world. D. Behavioral economics benefits customers. D 10. A 11. C 12. 根据第二段前两句“Researchers working with Chinese technology group Alibaba tried a simple approach to this problem. Instead of just wastefully giving out tableware, the company required food-delivery customers in some cities in China to pick how many sets of tableware they wanted to receive. (与中国科技集团阿里巴巴合作的研究人员尝试了一种简单的方法来解决这个问题。该公司要求中国一些城市的送餐客户选择他们想要收到多少套餐具,而不是浪费地分发餐具。)”可知,阿里巴巴允许顾客根据自己的需求选择餐具数量。故选D项。 【10题详解】 词句猜测题。根据第二段“Instead of just wastefully giving out tableware, the company required food-delivery customers in some cities in China to pick how many sets of tableware they wanted to receive. (该公司要求中国一些城市的送餐客户选择他们想要收到多少套餐具,而不是浪费地分发餐具。)”及“If applied across China, researchers found, the approach would save nearly 22 billion sets of plastic tableware. The study doesn’t cover carbon emissions, but it’s safe to say that the impact would be significant. (研究人员发现,如果在中国各地应用,这种方法将节省近220亿套塑料餐具。这项研究不涉及碳排放,但可以肯定地说,其影响将是巨大的。)”可知,阿里巴巴一个小小举动就能在减少浪费,保护环境方面产生重大的影响,故推知“low-hanging fruits”意为“易于达成的事情”,该短语字面意思是“低垂的水果、容易够着的水果”,暗示“容易完成或实现”。故选A项。 根据第三段“It suggests that a slight action can encourage good human behavior without the need for policies that limit choice or economic punishment. (这表明,助推的行动可以鼓励良好的人类行为,而不需要限制选择或经济惩罚的政策。)”可知,助推理论表明一个小小的举动就可以影响人类的行为。故选C项。 【12题详解】 主旨大意题。根据第三段“Nudging its customers cost Alibaba nothing more than a few hours of software engineering time and the impact it brought was enormous. The concept of nudging comes from the field of behavioral economics known as nudge theory. It suggests that a slight action can encourage good human behavior without the need for policies that limit choice or economic punishment. (推动客户只花费了阿里巴巴几个小时的软件工程时间,而且它带来的影响是巨大的。助推的概念来自行为经济学领域,即助推理论。这表明,助推的行动可以鼓励良好的人类行为,而不需要限制选择或经济惩罚的政策。)”及最后一段“The International Energy Agency found in2021 that small behavioral changes in energy consumption such as walking instead of driving and adjusting the thermostat (恒温器) could in total reduce 4% of global emissions. (国际能源署在2021年发现,能源消耗的小行为变化,如步行而不是开车和调整恒温器,总共可以减少全球4%的排放量。)”并结合文章中阿里巴巴的例子可知,本文主要介绍了助推理论在环保方面的影响,即有助于建立一个更环保,更绿色的世界。故选C项。 第二节 七选五(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) Loneliness is a hollow sorrow that wraps itself around your heart and stays there, whispering fear of social rejection in your ear and growing stronger, feeding on your insecurities. Loneliness harms our immune system, leaves us more vulnerable to cancer, and affects our heart health. ____13____ The very first thing is to identify it. Naming the feeling, saying the words “I’m lonely” out loud, and preferably in the presence of a trusted human being, deprives the negative emotion of some of its power. When you find the courage to admit that you are lonely, you claim a little control back for yourself. ____14____ It is human and it is natural. Next, you must truly understand it. Loneliness is not necessarily the same thing as social isolation. ____15____ You can feel lonely in a relationship, lonely at a party, lonely in the middle of a wedding with 200 guests. It is astonishing how often loneliness affects healthy, sociable people with plenty of friends. Finally, you must push yourself to reconnect with people. ____16____ That could begin with a message, a coffee date, a walk in the park, a Sunday roast at the pub. The very best cure for loneliness is genuine, loyal, fierce, loving friendship—the kind that makes you feel complete, the kind that makes you feel sentimentally satisfied. Loneliness is a deeply private suffering, but it’s also a modern public health crisis. To get rid of loneliness, we must launch an aggressive campaign of kindness towards other people. ____17____ And most importantly, we must value friendship in a way we have forgotten. A. It is not shameful to be lonely. B. And so, how do you stop being lonely? C. People may wonder whether fighting loneliness is as easy as pie. D. We must find a way to care and be cared for. E. Those negative thoughts can settle in without you even noticing. F. You can start by putting yourself literally in the presence of other human beings. G. Perhaps the cruelest thing about loneliness is that it can exist in the company of others. B 14. A 15. G 16. F 17. 【13题详解】 上文“Loneliness harms our immune system, leaves us more vulnerable to cancer, and affects our heart health. (孤独损害我们的免疫系统,使我们更容易患癌症,还影响心脏健康)”阐述了孤独带来的危害,下文“The very first thing is to identify it. (首先要识别它)”紧接着讲应对孤独的步骤,可知该空所表达的是承接孤独的危害从而引出摆脱孤独的方法。B选项“那么,如何摆脱孤独呢?”起到承上启下作用,承接前文孤独的危害,引出后文摆脱孤独的方法,符合语境。故选B项。 【14题详解】 根据下文“It is human and it is natural. (这是人之常情,很自然)”可知,孤独是很自然的事情。A选项“孤独并不可耻”,符合逻辑,与下文逻辑紧密。故选A项。 15题详解】 根据上文“Loneliness is not necessarily the same thing as social isolation. (孤独不一定等同于社交孤立)”和下文“You can feel lonely in a relationship, lonely at a party, lonely in the middle of a wedding with 200 guests. (你可能在一段关系中感到孤独,在派对上感到孤独,在一场有 200 位宾客的婚礼中感到孤独)”可知,该空所体现的是孤独可能在有人陪伴时存在。G选项“或许孤独最残酷的地方在于它能在有人陪伴时依然存在”,解释了孤独和社交孤立不同,能在他人陪伴下产生,契合上下文。故选G项。 【16题详解】 根据上文“Finally, you must push yourself to reconnect with people. (最后,你必须促使自己重新与他人建立联系)”以及下文“That could begin with a message, a coffee date, a walk in the park, a Sunday roast at the pub. (这可以从一条消息、一次咖啡之约、一次公园散步、一次酒吧周日烤肉活动开始)”可知该空主要表达的意思为与他人重新建立联系。F选项“你可以从真正让自己置身于他人身边开始”,承接了“重新建立联系”的内容,并引出后文具体的行动方式,符合语境。故选F项。 【17题详解】 根据上文“To get rid of loneliness, we must launch an aggressive campaign of kindness towards other people. (为了摆脱孤独,我们必须对他人开展一场积极的善意行动)”以及下文“And most importantly, we must value friendship in a way we have forgotten. (最重要的是,我们必须以一种被遗忘的方式重视友谊)”可知,该空承接上文具体讲述善意的行为。D选项“我们必须找到一种关心他人和被他人关心的方式”,属于对他人开展善意行动、应对孤独的内容,与上文善意的行动相照应,也为后文重视友谊做铺垫,符合逻辑。故选D项。 第三部分 语言知识运用(共四节,满分37.5分) 第一节 完形填空(共15小题;每小题1分,满15分) Titled 1,000 Blind People See For the First Time, this eight-minute-long video has received 54 million views in just two days. She had prepared much of her savings for Ryan’s college education, so she just took on a part-time job to cover the daily bills. However, Ryan disliked his grandma’s part-time job. She worked as a cleaning lady at a nearby park and he was afraid one of his classmates would see his grandma and think lowly of them. One day,Ryan was chosen to act the lead role in a school play. All others acting in the play invited their families to the big opening night, but Ryan was too ashamed to invite his grandma. Unfortunately for him,EIsa saw the flyer (宣传单) of the play while she was cleaning Ryan’s room. That night, when having the dinner in the living room, she talked to Ryan about the flyer, saying she would love to attend. “You won’t be attending, grandma,” he shouted. Hearing that, Elsa wanted to know why. Finally, Ryan broke, “It’s because I don’t want my friends to find out you’re a cleaning lady!“ Elsa was shocked. She was hurt, and couldn’t find the words to respond to her grandson. Instead, she silently went to her room and cried all night long. Little did Ryan know — his grandma kept working because of him. If she had the choice, she would rather stay at home and enjoy her retirement, but she knew she had to make money so that Ryan could continue living comfortably. And although Elsa was sad about Ryan’s behavior, she continued working. Elsa’s legs and back had been experiencing bad pains for long because of her work. At that moment, memories came flooding back. He recalled everything Grandma had done for him. Realizing Elsa was hiding her pain, he felt regretful about his previous hurtful words. Ryan decided to say sorry to grandma. Turning to her, he knelt down, grasping her hand, and apologized sincerely to her, “Sorry, grandma. I shouldn’t have shouted like that.” Elsa just smiled and comforted him. Days after Elsa felt better, Ryan surprised her by taking her to his school. “That very first year I didn’t really think much toward the future,” said Austin. B Humans have always assumed that there is a huge gulf between animal behavior and human development. A It is equally distributed among animals. C Their inability to take creativity forward. D. Their unwillingness to cooperate effectively. C Whenever I order food for delivery, I play a little game to guess how many sets of tableware (餐具) the restaurant will provide with my meal. A Nudge theory affects behaviors. B. Good behaviors boost economy. C. Nudging helps build a greener world. D. Behavioral economics benefits customers. 第二节 七选五(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) Loneliness is a hollow sorrow that wraps itself around your heart and stays there, whispering fear of social rejection in your ear and growing stronger, feeding on your insecurities. All others acting in the play invited their families to the big opening night, but Ryan was too ashamed to invite his grandma. Unfortunately for him,EIsa saw the flyer (宣传单) of the play while she was cleaning Ryan’s room.
