Ge spent much of his time studying herbal medicine and collecting and testing different prescriptions before recording his findings in books like the Zhou Hou Jiu Zu Fang, a prescription guide for emergencies. One day, a farmer from a village at the foot of the mountain came to seek Ge’s help. Many of the villagers had fallen ill, suffering from alternating chills and fever. Some had even died. It was a common illness in the south of China, and was thought to be caused by miasmas. Ge gave the farmer two different prescriptions, and told him that they might take effect three days after drinking them. Three days later, Ge’s student reported that both prescriptions had worked, so he noted them down in the Zhou Hou Jiu Zu Fang. In the late 19th century, more than 1,500 years later, the cause of the disease was finally discovered. The alternating chills and fever were brought on by malaria. By way of treatment for malaria, Ge recorded 43 prescriptions in the Zhou Hou Jiu Zu Fang, including the two he gave to the farmer—one based on changshan and another based on qinghao. “Take a handful of qinghao, soak it in 400 millimeters of water, squeeze out the juice, and consume all of it,” Ge writes. It was not until the latter half of 1971, when pharmaceutical chemist Tu Youyou was rereading the Zhou Hou Jiu Zu Fang as part of her research into effective traditional Chinese medicine prescriptions to treat malaria, that qinghao emerged as a promising choice. Tu explained when she received the Nobel Prize in physiology or medicine in 2015 that, her research team had tried the plant, but its effect proved unstable. When Tu read Ge’s prescription, it suddenly occurred to her that the extraction process might need to avoid high temperatures, and so she considered using a method that involved solvents(溶剂)with lower boiling points. This unusual spark led to a groundbreaking scientific discovery, resulting in a new drug that has saved millions of lives and benefited humanity as a whole. 4. What would Ge do after the new drug trial? A. Try the drug on animals. B. Gather needed herbs up. C. Look through his records. D. Take the prescription down. 5. What is the cause of the alternating chills and fever? A. Miasmas. B. Malaria. C. Infection. D. Poison. 6 Why was there an instability in qinghao’s performance according to Tu? A. Careless mixing up other herbs. B. Low temperatures in extraction. C. High boiling points of solvents. D. Direct touch with extracting tools. 7. What is the writer’s attitude towards the cure from history? A. Approving. B. Opposed. C. Skeptical. D. Cautious. C In 2010, Gary Wolf, then the editor of Wired magazine, delivered a talk called “the quantified self”, in which he shared that the tech enthusiasts were using digital devices to monitor everything from their physiological data to their mood. From the smartwatches that track steps and heart rate, to the fitness bands that log sleep patterns and calories burned, these gadgets have found their way into mainstream culture. Their popularity symbolizes a modern obsession with quantification — the idea that if something isn’t logged, it doesn’t count. However, the quantified self-movement still struggles with an important question: can wearable devices truly measure what they claim to? Along with his colleagues Maximus Baldwin, Brian Caulfield and Rob Argent, Caliber Doherty recently reviewed studies testing whether consumer wearable devices can accurately measure metrics like heart rate, aerobic capacity, energy expenditure, sleep and step count. At a surface level, results were quite positive. Despite some errors, wearable devices can measure heart rate with an error rate of plus or minus 3%, depending on factors like skin tone, exercise intensity and activity type. In the physical activity, wearables generally underestimate step counts, by about 9%. However, energy expenditure varied widely ranging from — 21.27% to 14.76%. Results weren’t much better for sleep. Wearables tend to overestimate total sleep time and sleep efficiency, typically by more than 10%. The researchers also found conducting research in this field very challenging. Different testing methods across labs and the lack of standardization led to conflicting results and made them hard to compare. For example, one study might assess heart rate accuracy during intense exercise while others focus on sedentary activities. Most importantly, rapid product updates further complicate long-term accuracy checks. As wearable technologies spread further into health and lifestyle areas, it is important to approach manufacturers’ claims. Gaps in research, inconsistent testing methods, and fast product updates highlight the urgent need for standardized device checks. Researchers propose establishing a collaborative network among formal certification bodies, academic research teams, media influencers, and the industry to ensure that wearable techs are not just innovative gadgets, but reliable tools for health and wellness. 8. Why does the author mention Gary Wolf’s 2010 talk? A. To compare different digital devices. B. To illustrate the history of wearables. C. To introduce the popularity of smart tech. D. To show addiction to digital measurement. 9. Which function of wearable devices has the most reliable data? A. Recording step count. B. Tracking heart rate. C. Calculating energy expenditure. D. Estimating sleep efficiency. 10. What does the underlined word “sedentary” in paragraph 4 probably mean? A. body-stretching B. energy-consuming C. sitting-based D. muscle-strengthened 11. What can be the best title of the text? A. Smart Tech: Popular and Precise B. Fitness Gadgets: Promises and Risks C. The Quantified Self: A Tech Revolution D. Wearables: From Trendy to Trustworthy D Some seasons tend to naturally speak to us more than others. But regardless of whether you’d rather be putting on a pair of sunglasses or pulling on your warm coat, have you ever stopped to think how the seasons might affect how our brains work? Meteorological seasons involve cyclical changes like light and temperature. But there are also cultural influences that come into play. In the northern hemisphere, Christmas symbolizes winter while an annual celebration like Bonfire Night goes hand in hand with autumn. Seasons can also be defined by changes in our surroundings or the way they alter the routines in our life. For example, you may associate having a big clear-out with spring or a long break from school with summer. As a result, some researchers believe both the seasonal shifts and the associations we have with different times of the year may have an impact on the things that people think, feel and do. In 2019, researchers at Cornell University led an analysis of 765 million streams on the music service platform Spotify by people in 51 different countries. They identified a link between day length and the ‘ intensity’ of the songs that were streamed. While more relaxed songs were popular with places with shorter days, more energetic music was associated with countries that have longer days. The team of researchers concluded that these results reflected variations in mood, ranging from danceable music in warmer times and regions, to more blue tunes in cooler, darker places. Some scholars believe that the seasons can also impact our generosity levels. A 2018 paper found a rise in charitable contributions in countries with Christian traditions during winter. Researchers also found that people are also more likely to tip their waiters generously during the holiday season. Further studies suggest that our fondness for different colours is altered by different times of year. In a 2023 study, psychologists assessed the colour preference of participants during autumn, winter, spring and summer. Results demonstrated seasonal shifts in colour preference, with autumn being the most dramatic of all. Researchers believe that the findings fit the theory of ecological valence theory, the idea that people’s preference for a colour is a function of how strongly they associate it with different objects or experience. They theorised that the preference for warm, dark colours in this case was likely to have been influenced by the colour of leaves in autumn. So whether you’ re eagerly awaiting pumpkin season or longing for a winter wonderland, the time of year may have more of an influence on us than it may seem. 12. How do people define seasonal changes? A. By routine shifts like vacations. B. By natural cycles like day-night shifts. C. By tracking cultural events via social apps. D. By counting days until annual celebrations. 13. What does the study by researchers at Cornell University find? A Rock music is popular in cold zones. B. Music preferences vary with day length. C. Lyrics complexity increases in summer. D. People prefer instrumental music in winter. 14. Which of the following statements best supports ecological valence theory? A. Infants naturally favor bright colors. B. Urban walkers are keen on sand dunes. C. Hikers noticing emerging leaves prefer green. D. Online streamers choose white clothing for better clarity. 15. What is the text mainly about? A. Cultural influences on seasons. B. Seasonal impacts on human psychology. C Generosity rising during festive seasons. D. Annual celebration and mental wellbeing. 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文, 在短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Whether you skim a blog post, study files for work, or browse through a book, you most likely do some type of reading every day. ___16___ If you want to read faster while maintaining reading comprehension, check out these four tips. He was holding a plastic package filled with a teddy bear. “Can I buy it, please?” I returned his sweet smile and told him that he could put his treasure in the shopping cart along with the food and other necessities that we were buying. However, as I watched our purchases add up on the register, I started to get nervous. It was obvious that the running total I had been calculating as we shopped was wrong. We would have to put back all the toys and activity books. Tears were clouding my eyes as I told Jimmy I wouldn’t be able to treat him after all. He didn’t say a word, but the disappointment in his eyes broke my heart. Suddenly, a petite woman with dark brown hair and two young children of her own stepped in front of me. Because of my tears, I was barely able to see the forty dollars she placed in my hand. When I realized what she was offering, I started to protest, but she put her hands over mine and said, “I`ve been in your shoes before. Please buy those things for your child.” At that moment, I felt her sincerity and it comforted me deeply. I cried once more, but this time it was tears of relief. All I could do was thank her over and over. Her kindness overwhelmed me. That good-hearted woman had no idea that she changed my life that day. From that point forward, I hoped for the chance to do the same for someone else one day when I could. One day, while Jimmy was happily playing with his teddy bear we found ourselves in line behind a mother whose baby girl was playing in a car seat in her shopping cart at Walmart. She was in the same pickle I had been in: she had more items than cash and she was struggling to choose what to buy. 注意:1. 续写词数应为150左右; 2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 My heart went out to her and I knew I wanted to help. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Seeing the baby happily holding the teddy bear in her arms, Jimmy beamed with a smile. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 金沙县第一中学2027届高一年级第三次月考 高一英语试卷 注意事项: 1. 1. A. Miasmas. B. Malaria. C. Infection. D. Poison. 6. Why was there an instability in qinghao’s performance according to Tu? A. Careless mixing up other herbs. B. Low temperatures in extraction. C. High boiling points of solvents. D. Direct touch with extracting tools. 7. What is the writer’s attitude towards the cure from history? A. Approving. B. Opposed. C. Skeptical. D. Cautious. 【答案】4. D 5. B 6. C 7. 8. D. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 My heart went out to her and I knew I wanted to help. Without hesitation, I reached into my purse and pulled out a fifty-dollar bill. As I gently tapped her on the shoulder, I noticed the stress lines on her face and the way her hands trembled. “Please,” I said softly, “let me help you. I’ve been in a similar situation before, and I know how hard it can be.” Her eyes widened in disbelief, and tears welled up in them, reflecting a mix of shock and gratitude. She tried to refuse at first, saying she couldn’t accept such generosity, but I insisted, just like the kind woman had done for me years ago. “Pay it forward someday,” I told her with a warm smile, pressing the money into her hand. Seeing the baby happily holding the teddy bear in her arms, Jimmy beamed with a smile. “Mommy, she looks so happy!” he exclaimed, his eyes shining with joy. I nodded, feeling a deep sense of fulfillment wash over me. “That’s because we shared a little happiness with her, just like someone shared with us,” I explained, ruffling his hair affectionately. Jimmy seemed to understand the power of kindness. On our way out of the store, he turned to me and said, “Mommy, I want to help people like you did today too!” I hugged him tightly, my heart swelling with pride, knowing that the cycle of kindness would continue, one small act at a time. 注意到: notice/be aware of ②.帮助:help/assist/aid ③.拒绝:decline/refuse 情绪类 ①.震惊: shock/astonishment ②.感激:gratitude/thankfulness/appreciation 【点睛】[高分句型1].
