Gao,who ever worked at the wildlife rescue station in Sanmenxia,has guarded swans(天鹅) and the ecosystems for almost forty years. YUHENG One day in 1988,Gao found someone had opened fire on swans. The sad cries of the four wounded swans left a rather deep mark on him. Since then,Gao has become a guardian of swans along the Yellow River. Though there were some challenges,such as poor public awareness(意识) of wildlife protection and environmental pollution,Gao’s wish for swan protection has never waned. He and his workmates often visited nearby villages to educate YUHENG villagers about wildlife protection and encouraged them to bring sick or hurt wild animals to the rescue station.In October 2009,a swan patrol(巡查) team was founded. Gao and his team started to protect swans from any pain or harm. Now more people have become “swan dads” and “swan moms”.Gao said,“They rescue and treat hurt swans,spread knowledge about swan protection,and help make humans and swans share the areas in a peaceful way.” YUHENG The number of swans in Sanmenxia became smaller in the 1990s due to terrible pollution in the Yellow River.
