Salt has sodium (钠) in it. Sodium is a chemical that helps food last longer. It can slow down or stop the growth of germs (细菌) in lunch meat, salad dressings and cheese products. Our bodies need sodium, but they need a lot less than we think. Most people eat much more salt than they need each day. Most food, even fresh food, has a little sodium in it. We get most of the sodium in our diet from salt added to processed food. Some of the food that has the most sodium is tomato juice, soups, canned food and prepared food. A little salt is good, but too much salt can cause health problems, like high blood pressure and diabetes (糖尿病). The American Heart Association says we should try to eat less than 1,500 milligrams of sodium per day. How much salt is that? A four-ounce (about 113 grams) cheeseburger from a popular fast food store has almost 1,400 milligrams of sodium in it. That is more than 1/4 teaspoons of salt. It does not sound like much, but it is. It is almost all the salt we should have in one day! Eating too much salt has some negative effects on our health. If we want to stay healthy, we’d better not eat too much salt. 39. According to the first paragraph, we can know salt isn’t used ________. A. to add flavor to food B. to help food last longer C. to stop the growth of germs D. to keep people away from diabetes 40. Why does the writer mention canned food in the second paragraph? A. Because it is one of the food that has the most sodium. B. Because it is popular food among young people. C. Because it’s necessary to add some salt to it. D. Because it is junk food which has too much salt. 41. The Chinese meaning of the underlined word “negative” in this passage is probably “________”. A. 积极的 B. 不良的 C. 肯定的 D. 严重的 42. From the passage, we can learn that ________. A. most food doesn’t have any sodium in it B. we get most of the sodium from the water we drink C. too much salt can cause some health problems D. it doesn’t matter if you eat too much salt because it’s not harmful 【答案】39. D 40. A 41. B 42. C 【解析】 【导语】本文介绍了盐中钠的作用、日常饮食中钠的主要来源以及过量摄入盐分对健康的危害。 【39题详解】 细节理解题。根据“Many people use salt to add flavor (味道) to their food. Salt has sodium (钠) in it. Sodium is a chemical that helps food last longer. It can slow down or stop the growth of germs (细菌)”可知,许多人用盐给食物调味。盐中含有钠。钠是一种能让食物保存更久的化学物质。它能减缓或阻止细菌的生长。故第一段没有提到盐可以让人们远离糖尿病。故选D。 【40题详解】 推理判断题。根据“Some of the food that has the most sodium is tomato juice, soups, canned food and prepared food.”可推断,作者提到罐头食品的原因是它是含钠量最高的食物之一。故选A。 【41题详解】 词义猜测题。根据“If we want to stay healthy, we’d better not eat too much salt.”可知,如果我们想保持健康,我们最好少吃盐。因此,此处是指吃太多的盐对我们的健康有一些“不良的”影响,故negative在这里的含义是“不良的”。故选B。 【42题详解】 细节理解题。根据“A little salt is good, but too much salt can cause health problems…”可知,吃太多盐会引发一些健康问题。故选C。 C Once there was a kingdom which was ruled by a king. The king loved riddles very much and every year, he made a riddle. He gave a prize to the person who could solve the riddle. In this kingdom, there was a baker. Everyone agreed that he baked the finest bread. The baker had almost everything he needed except for a horse. If the baker had a horse, he could sell his fine bread from one end of the kingdom to the other. One year the king made a new riddle. “I will give a prize to the person who can solve my riddle,” the king said. “Whoever wins will have his or her pick of my strongest horses.” He then drew a line in the middle of a courtyard. “Make this line shorter without erasing (清除) any part of it,” the king challenged. People came from far and wide. They looked at the line, thinking how to work out the riddle. Some of them tried. The dressmaker kicked dirt (泥土) over the line to hide it. The farmer poured water over the line to make it disappear. But none of these attempts (尝试) worked. Then one day the baker came into the courtyard with a bag of flour (面粉). The baker opened his bag of flour. He poured out a line of flour right next to the king’s line. The line the baker made was longer than the king’s line. “Now, Your Majesty,” the baker smiled, “your line is shorter.” People were amazed. The king laughed and clapped his hands, “You have won the prize. I will give you a horse of your choice.” Now the baker’s dream came true. 43. What was the baker’s problem in this story? A. It’s likely to be challenging on your feet, and it’s something that shouldn’t be taken lightly,” said RachelPrusynski, a physical therapist (理疗师), who shared suggestions for keeping your vacation from killing your feet. How to choose shoes Depending on the type of trip and weather, you might want to pack hiking boots, trainers, walking shoes or all three. Do not buy these shoes the day before your trip. And don’t necessarily depend on your trusty old pair. If you’ve been wearing shoes regularly for more than six months, it’s probably time to invest (投资) in a new pair. And you should wear your new boots at least twice for an hour ahead of a trip. How to train for heavy-duty walking “If you spend a lot of time at your desk but are planning a week of constantly being on your feet, it’s better to build up to the activity,” Michele Stanten, a walking coach, suggested. And she said travelers should practice walking and give themselves at least a month to get ready. Baby teeth, spare keys for locks unknown, the tenancy (租赁) agreement for your last flat. That box is my punishment. I realized that turning 40, being pregnant (怀孕) and training for a second career wasn’t enough to be getting on with in a single month. I am also in the lucky position of moving house. This means opening various drawers, boxes or else, only to discover a pit (深坑) of painful memories or disorderly things at every turn. But listen to me: You can get rid of (清除) these things. Taking a box of toys to a charity shop when my son is at school? Delicious. Handing out unworn clothes to friends and neighbors? Happy. Recycling the old notes and an empty jam jar (罐子)? Exciting. As a writer, I’m supposed to save my notes, interviews, research and observations for the future. But frankly, I hope I will have better things to do than read through our old notebooks, diaries, address books, planners, textbooks and letters. So, I put them in the recycling bin. Day and night, he painted to make his greatest work. He painted many paintings, but every time, he would throw away paintings that he thought were less than perfect. At the same time, another painter who worked in the same studio (工作室) also painted many paintings. He tried his best to paint and seldom threw any paintings away. The first painter would sometimes walk by, looking at the second painter’s finished works, and laughed at them. “No one will buy these paintings. They are worthless!” he would say. The second painter would always answer, “We will see.” And in time, the second painter sold nearly almost all of his works. People were happy with them, even if they were less than perfect. The first painter never achieved what he wanted and finally gave up his dream of perfection. He went home, penniless (身无分文的), having never sold any of his paintings. There is a saying, “Practice makes perfect.” It is used to say that people become better at something if they do it often. For example, if you want to be a good writer, you should write every day. But in fact, this saying is not always true. No one is perfect, and looking for perfection often ends in failure. But if we simply do our best and work hard, we can finally succeed in life. So, please remember: Perfection is not always possible, but that’s okay. 53. How did the first painter deal with the paintings that he thought were less than perfect? (不超过5个词) ________________________ 54. What happened to the first painter finally? (不超过 10个词) ________________________ 55. What does the writer want to tell us through the story? A. most food doesn’t have any sodium in it B. we get most of the sodium from the water we drink C. too much salt can cause some health problems D. it doesn’t matter if you eat too much salt because it’s not harmful C Once there was a kingdom which was ruled by a king. A. Give your feet a break “Take time during busy days of walking to sit and put your feet up,” Stanten said, “Do the same at the end of the day.” 47. How to Keep Your Vacation from Killing Your Feet E There is a special box that hides in every home, full of old things. I developed a strong and early love of getting rid of things since I was a child. If I have a chance, I’ll throw stuff (杂物) out of my house and move on. 50. How many difficulties did the writer face in a single month according to Paragraph 2? A. One. B. Two. C. Three. D. Four. 51. Which will the writer be impossible to throw away? A. Some small old clothes. B. Her son’s used textbooks. C. Her new notebooks. D. Empty jam jars. 52. What do you think of the writer’s house? A. Big. B. Clean. C. Disorderly. D. Cheap. 第二节 阅读下面短文,并用英语回答问题(请注意每小题的词数要求)。 There was once a painter whose goal was to paint the most beautiful painting in the world. Day and night, he painted to make his greatest work. He painted many paintings, but every time, he would throw away paintings that he thought were less than perfect. At the same time another painter who worked in the same studio (工作室) also painted many paintings.
