Susan B. Anthony was called terrible names, had things thrown at her, and even had her picture dragged through the streets. But still she didn’t back down. She thought fighting for women’s rights — and the rights of everyone — was too important.
Anthony was born in Massachusetts in 1820. From an early age, she was taught that everyone should be equal. She knew it wasn’t fair that she didn’t have a say in electing (选择) political leaders just because she was a woman. She also thought that it wasn’t right that male teachers made more money than she did. In the 1850s, she started voicing her opinion publicly, stopping people on the streets or giving speeches around the country.
In 1856 Anthony joined the anti-slavery (反对奴隶) movement. She gave speeches, organized meetings, put up posters, and handed out leaflets, even though she faced angry crowds of people who disagreed with her. She met Elizabeth Cady Stanton in 1851, and together they co-founded the National Woman Suffrage Association in 1869 to push for women’s voting (投票) rights. They also launched a newspaper, The Revolution, to spread their message.
African-Americans were recognized as U. S. citizens in 1870, and black men were later given the right to vote. But African-American women, like all women, still did not have the right to vote. This made Anthony so angry that she cast a vote in the 1872 presidential election, an act for which she was arrested (逮捕) and fined $100 — though she never paid the fine.
Anthony worked for more than 50 years for women’s rights, but she never got to legally vote. She died on March 13,1906,14 years before the 19th Amendment (修正案) gave all women the right to vote. Despite this, her efforts were recognized, and the amendment was even referred to as the “Anthony Amendment” in her honor. And in 1979, Anthony became the first woman to be on a U. S. coin, the silver dollar.
24. What was Anthony’s main goal?
A. Ending slavery.
B. Getting paid as much as a man.
C. Gaining voting rights for women.
D. Becoming the first woman to be on a U. S. coin.
25. What happened to Anthony at the age of 49?
A. She launched a newspaper.
B. She was recognized as a U. S. citizen.
C. She started voicing her opinion publicly.
D. She set up the National Woman Suffrage Association.
26. Why was Anthony arrested?
A. For voting in an election. B. For refusing to pay the fine.
C For stopping people on the streets. D. For joining the anti-slavery movement.
27. Why was the 19th Amendment called the “Anthony Amendment”?
A. Because Anthony voted for it.
B. Because Anthony set it up.
C. Because of Anthony’s great contributions.
D. Because Anthony was an important political leader.
【答案】24. C 25. D 26. A 27. C

Moving house is a big and emotional business. So when a whole group of Asian elephants made a historic move from Melbourne to Werribee this week, they shared a moving reunion as they explored their new world-class habitat (栖息地) for the first time. The elephants trumpeted (吼叫) as they appeared from their air-conditioned trucks to take their first steps in their new home. They also touched each other and moved their ears, showing excitement and a strong social connection. The elephants wasted no time getting acquainted with their new playgrounds.
Werribee Open Range Zoo zookeeper Lucy Truelson said it was inspiring to see the elephants explore their new habitat, following years of careful planning to reach this groundbreaking moment. “They are celebrating and really enjoying their new surroundings,” Ms Truelson said. “They’re playing, exploring the landscape and they’ve slept beautifully. All these things show us that they’re happy. This is everything we hoped for.”
The elephant path is designed to put animal benefit first with an unmatched visitor experience. There are six large habitats with playgrounds. The area is the same size as Melbourne Zoo’s full footprint. It also includes two big pools that together hold nearly two million liters of water and offer about 1,300 square meters of swimming space. Two specially designed elephant barns (牲口棚) include a sleeping area filled with 3,300 tonnes of sand. Two overpasses will allow the elephants to cross over visitor walking paths, allowing the elephants to move between habitats.
With the elephants’ benefit the top thing for keepers, Ms Truelson was sure that visitors will have to wait a few more weeks. Werribee has never before had so many elephants in its 41-year history and making it happen was a huge job including a 21-person keeper team.
28. What does the underlined word “acquainted” in Paragraph 1 probably mean?
A. Content. B. Addicted. C. Familiar. D. Bored.
29. What was Lucy Truelson’s attitude to the move?
A Satisfied. B. Concerned. C. Disappointed. D. Confused.
30. In which paragraph can we know the advantages of the elephants’ new home?
A. Paragraph 1. B. Paragraph 3. C. Paragraph 2. D. Paragraph 4.
31. What will be talked about next?
A. How to design elephant barns. B. The history of the zoo.
C. Where the most elephants came from. D. The preparations that the zoo made before welcoming visitors.
【答案】28. C 29. A 30. B 31. D

Imagine that you are in a crowded place. You do not notice, but someone is watching you and learns your iPhone password(密码). Then, they steal your phone. Suddenly, your photos, documents, financial information, and the rest of your digital life have been taken from you.
Apple, the iPhone maker, recently released an update to its iOS operating system. It has a new feature called Stolen Device Protection (SDP). The feature makes it a lot harder for phone thieves to open the device and access important functions and settings.
Apple says the feature adds extra security for users. It addresses a drawback that thieves have used to lock device owners out of their Apple accounts, delete their photos and other files from their iCloud, and take money from their bank accounts.
SDP keeps track of a user’s “familiar locations”, such as their home or workplace. It also reduces the importance of passwords. Instead, it favors “biometric”(生物识别的)features such as faces or fingerprints, which are a lot harder to copy.
If a thief tries to erase or reset an iPhone, the device will require a Face ID or Touch ID scan to confirm that the person is the rightful owner. The new feature does not let someone use the password or any other backup method.
Another part of the new feature is designed to slow down thieves trying to change security settings. For example, if someone tries to sign out of an Apple ID account, change the password or reset the phone in an unfamiliar location, they will have to authenticate(证实)by using Face ID or Touch ID, wait an hour, and then do a second facial or fingerprint scan.
Changing an Apple ID password, updating Apple ID security settings, adding or removing Face or Touch ID, and turning off the Find My device feature or Stolen Device Protection also will lead to this feature.
32. What is the function of paragraph 1?
A. To set a phone-stealing scene.
B. To introduce the following text.
C. To remind readers to be cautious.
D. To explain how password theft directly causes device loss.
33. What can SDP do to add security for users?
A. Stop iCloud files from being deleted.
B. Make it less likely to enter the phone.
C. Secure Apple accounts with remote locking.
D. Prevent thieves from accessing bank accounts.
34. What does SDP require for resetting a stolen iPhone?
A. Previous passwords. B. A new security setting. C. An Apple ID account. D. Identity recognition.
35. What does the passage mainly talk about?
A. iPhone’s anti-theft measure. B. Apple ID security settings.
C. Usage of biometric features. D. Apple’s iOS operating system.

When I first came to this big city alone, I felt both excited and nervous. This city is famous for its busy life and opportunities, but everything here was new to me. I stood at the entrance of the subway station, looking at the busy crowd, feeling a bit lost.
I needed to go to an important meeting, but I knew nothing about the subway lines. I tried to find the right route in the station, but the complex signs made me more confused. I watched people hurrying around, each with a clear destination, while I felt like a lost child, not knowing where to go.
After hesitating for a long time, I finally gathered the courage to ask a friendly-looking lady for directions. However, my words were unclear, and she just frowned (皱眉) slightly and continued on her way. I felt a wave of disappointment, and my anxiety grew. Time was ticking away, and I was worried about missing the meeting.
Just when I was about to give up, I saw a sign that read “City Center Direction”. I thought this might be the way I needed to go, so I followed the sign. However, I soon found myself in a completely unfamiliar place, and everything around me made me feel even more lost. I began to doubt my decision, feeling helpless.
At that moment, a young volunteer noticed my trouble. He was wearing a red vest (背心) with the words “City Volunteer” on it and was standing not far away. He saw my hesitation and walked to me.
“Hi, you look a bit lost. Do you need help?” he asked with a smile.
I nodded, feeling warmth in my heart. After listening to my problem patiently, he explained the subway lines and how to get to my destination in detail. His voice was gentle and clear, making me feel at ease.

【答案】
“Come with me, and I’ll take you to the right platform,” he said. Without hesitation, I trailed behind him, my anxiety melting away with every step. As we navigated through the bustling station, he pointed out important landmarks and shared handy tips for riding the subway. “This intersection can be tricky,” he noted, guiding me past a maze of signs. “Always follow the blue line for downtown.” Thanks to his clear instructions, we reached the platform just as the train arrived. Before boarding, I thanked him profusely. He simply smiled and replied, “Glad I could help. Good luck with your meeting!”
Watching him walking away, I felt warmth in my heart again. His unexpected kindness turned my desperate situation around, reminding me that kindness exists even in the most impersonal places. As the train pulled out of the station, I realized this encounter was more than just getting directions — it was a reassuring welcome to my new life in the city. His helpful spirit inspired me to pay it forward, and I resolved to approach challenges with newfound confidence.

C. For stopping people on the streets.

Moving house is a big and emotional business. So when a whole group of Asian elephants made a historic move from Melbourne to Werribee this week they shared a moving reunion as they explored their new world-class habitat (栖息地) for the first time.
A. Satisfied. B. Concerned. C. Disappointed. D. Confused.
30. In which paragraph can we know the advantages of the elephants’ new home?
A. Paragraph 1. B. Paragraph 3. C. Paragraph 2. D. Paragraph 4.
31. What will be talked about next?
A. How to design elephant barns. B. The history of the zoo.
C. Where the most elephants came from. D. The preparations that the zoo made before welcoming visitors.
