Time flies when you play on your smartphone. But when you sit down to work and study, an hour feels like a year. ________
It is all because of something small called dopamine (多巴胺) which is a “pleasure chemical” that makes people feel good. Our brains release it when we eat yummy food, after we exercise or when we are praised.
Compared with studying, eating chocolate can make your brain release 150% more dopamine, and exercising for 30 minutes raises it by 200%. But playing on smartphones creates much more dopamine. For example, watching short videos gives a 250% increase, and checking new messages makes dopamine jump by 400%—much higher than studying. But why?
When we go through social media, we don’t know what we’ll see next, or who will follow our posts. This uncertainty makes the dopamine active. Studying doesn’t provide such uncertainty. Without the excitement of “gambling (赌博)”, we get bored much more easily.
Can we do something to change that? According to a research, apps can become less attractive if we turn off notifications or change the screen colors to black and white. We can also set time limits on apps to avoid overusing them.
As for studying, you could check your progress daily or weekly and reward (奖赏) yourself for it. You could also explore interesting topics related to your textbook. Use what you’ve learned to make a difference in the real world. This will make knowledge much more interesting to learn.
20. Which of the following can be put in “________”?
A. Why is studying so important for our brains
B. Why is using a smartphone the best way to improve study
C. Why are we so fond of smartphones but easily bored by studying
D. Why are we so easy to be tired of using smartphones
21. What does the underline word “release” mean in the passage?

③Set small goals and reward yourself after finishing them.
④Keep phone notifications on to stay connected.
⑤Connect textbook lessons to real-life problems.
A. ①② B. ③⑤ C. ①③ D. ④⑤
24. What can be the best title for the passage?
A. The Fun-Thief of Study: Dopamine B. How to Stay Away from Social Media
C. The History of Dopamine Discovery D. Best Study Methods for Students

①In China, more and more adults are becoming overweight. In fact, 34.8% of adults are overweight and 14.1% are obese (肥胖的). Experts say that each year there are 5.4% more obese adults in China.
②Zhang Zhongtao, who works at Beijing Friendship Hospital, said that obesity was causing big health and money problems around the world. By the year of 2030, it is expected that China will spend about 22% of all its healthcare money on problems related to being overweight or obese.
③At a meeting, Zhang asked people to pay more attention to obesity and how to manage weight. “We hope to work with public charities to give help to obese patients who need to lose weight medically but can’t pay for it,” he said.
④He also explained why people become overweight. It is mainly because they eat more energy than they run out of. Also, in China, obesity is more common in the north than in the south, showing a pattern of decreasing from north to south. In the north of China, people like to eat noodles, and in the south, they prefer rice. Both foods have carbohydrates (碳水化合物), but eating noodles can make people gain more weight. Climate also affects people in the north. Because it’s colder, they like to eat foods with more calories like fried chicken and chocolate to stay warm.

According to the report, one of the biggest causes of wildlife death is human activity. The world’s population has doubled in the last 50 years.
A. recycle B. operate C. produce D. attract
22. Which of the following picture shows the level of dopamine increase?

23. Which of the following way can help to make study more fun?

③Set small goals and reward yourself after finishing them.
④Keep phone notifications on to stay connected.
⑤Connect textbook lessons to real-life problems.
A. ①② B. ③⑤ C. ①③ D. ④⑤
24. What can be the best title for the passage?
A. The Fun-Thief of Study: Dopamine B. How to Stay Away from Social Media
