The new member to the UAE's astronaut training program, the first female Emirati (阿联酋) astronaut, hopes that her mechanical engineering degree will be her ticket to the moon. Nora AlMatrooshi and her fellow trainee astronaut Mohammad AlMulla were selected from 4000 highly qualified candidates to lead the nation’s 9.8 million citizens into space. The two are looking forward to the laborious 30-month program ahead of them which has already begun with them getting their divers’ licences, picking up the Russian language and coaching for their many media interviews—and will move on to flight and weightlessness school at the Johnson Space Centre in Texas and eventually cruel survival training. “They will need mechanical engineers to build a base on the moon,” says the 28-year-old, who represented her nation at the Mathematics Olympics and worked as an engineer at the National Petroleum Construction Company. AlMatrooshi says she has dreamed of the stars since kindergarten, when her teacher set up the classroom as the Lunar surface and the five-year-old future astronaut constructed a cardboard moonbase. That early longing to explore space charted her degree choice. “I actually went after it. I chose to study a degree in mechanical engineering because of a documentary I watched when I was in high school. It was about a group of astronauts going to the International Space Station and the role of the mechanical engineer was highlighted,” she say. Leading big construction projects in the desert has helped equip the daughter of two academics—a PhD father and English teacher mother—for Lunar construction. AlMatrooshi’s fellow trainee astronaut, UAE police helicopter pilot AlMulla, meanwhile says astronaut training has been “a big career change”. “I spent 15 years qualifying to be a pilot, including training in Australia for my commercial pilot’s licence,” says the father of two. “As a pilot you get used to mastering everything—suddenly I’m changing my path.” “I’m a big fan of SpaceX. The rockets and even the fancy space suits. And hopefully all four of us—and all the astronauts who come after us will get to be a part of future missions—perhaps even to the moon eventually.” 24. What preparation have they made before the training program? A. They have grasped their native language. B. They have had cruel survival training. C. They have learned to deal with the press. D. They have done some weightlessness training. 25. Which is the major factor for AlMatrooshi to be a member of the training program? A. She got help from her academic parents. B. She has had a big dream since her childhood. C. She has experience in big construction projects. D. She was the winner of the Mathematics Olympics. 26. What does the underlined part “I'm changing my path” refer to? A. I’ll be a master of life. B. I’m an enthusiast for SpaceX. C. I’m settling my new problem. D. I’m starting a new life from scratch. 27. Which of the following is a suitable title for the text? A. The fans of Space X B. Dream and achievements C. Passion and preparations D. Future astronaut training program Researchers in the Netherlands in 2014 first defined bedtime procrastination (拖延) as failing to go to bed at the intended time, while no external circumstances prevent a person from doing so. Since then, scientists have mostly contributed this phenomenon to a lower level of self-discipline. The phrase describes a trend in which modern-day workers resist sleeping early to seize the freedom of the night hours — even if it brings no obvious benefits. For most working adults, including myself, we don’t have the luxury to plan our workday. After sacrificing at least 8 hours of each day to earn a living, going to sleep early just feels even more wasteful of our time. Every day, by the time I get to relax at home after dinner and chores, it’s almost 10 pm and the late-night hours seem to be the only time slot when I can satisfy my personal needs — whether to catch up on reading or to play Animal Crossing until my wrists hurt. “Bedtime procrastination” is a type of compensation a psychological strategy that allows people to redirect their frustrations and insecurities, according to local psychologists in China. Sigmund Freud described compensation as a defense mechanism in which people hide their feelings of inadequacy or weakness by engaging in another area. Maximizing “me time” by staying up late, I suppose, is an act of resistance. Actually, I’m stealing time from my sleep to escape the robotic daytime routine. But there’s also a high risk of overcompensation and in the case of bedtime procrastination, this means lack of sleep and health issues. Some of us may not even be consciously aware of the reason behind our sleep pattern. Staying up late feels like a normal behavior when so many people share the same habit. If we’re voluntarily delaying our bedtime despite knowing the consequences, the conventional advice to sleep early is perhaps unhelpful. Instead, the answer might be to first examine our life and routine to discover where our frustrations lie, and figure out how to seize — not just the late night, but also the day. 28. What do scientists think of bedtime procrastination? A. It reflects our personality. B. It brings some benefits to us. C. It can satisfy our personal needs. D. It results from our poor self-control. 29. How does bedtime procrastination help people get compensation? A. By developing their work skills. B. By changing their focus of attention. C. By improving their situation. D. By making them relax. 30. What advice does the author give about dealing with bedtime procrastination? A. Realizing its negative effects. B. Getting some professional help. C. Finding out the real problems in life. D. Making the best use of evening hours. 31. What’s the author’s purpose in writing the text? A. To reveal the truth about bedtime procrastination. B. To give an introduction to bedtime procrastination. C. To show different attitudes to bedtime procrastination. D. To explain the consequences of bedtime procrastination. Chinese cultural relic authorities on Thursday revealed some new discoveries from the puzzling Sanxingdui Ruins in Sichuan Province, including a gold mask, a huge bronze mask, bronze statues and ivory carvings. A complete gold mask 37.2 centimeters wide, 16.5 centimeters high and about 100 grams in weight was unearthed from No.3 Pit. The golden mask shares a similar size and the same facial features as one of the bronze heads unearthed before. "This golden mask might be a part of the face of the bronze head," Ran Hongling, head of the Sanxingdui Institute of Archaeology (考古), told the Global Times. Meanwhile, a large bronze mask, 135 centimeters wide and 74 centimeters high, was dug up from the same pit, which is relatively well preserved and it is the largest bronze mask ever discovered at the site. Among the newly unearthed bronze statues from No. 4 Pit, one standing figure is being jokingly called the ancient "ancestor" of the popular Japanese superhero "Ultraman" due to the pointed crown (冠) on its head and his eyes that stick out. Another bronze statue has a special hairstyle that reminded people of the crown-shaped hat worn by Zhuge Liang, a Chinese statesman living during the Three Kingdoms period. And still another bronze statue has a unique pose. The figure is kneeling down with his head turned to the right and his hands are on the front left side of his body, but most interestingly, the figure is standing on the balls of both feet with his heels high in the air. The shapes and decorations of these bronze statues make them unique as valuable resources for the research of the ancient Kingdom of Shu, some 3,000 years ago. Currently, the third and fourth pits have produced 729 and 1,073 relics, including three relics made from unknown materials. Meanwhile, 200 ivory relics have been discovered in the eighth pit. 32. What do we know about the bronze mask? A. It is the most complete relic ever discovered. B. It has the largest size of its kind unearthed at the site. C. It was dug from the No. 4 Pit of the Sanxingdui Ruins. D. It has the same facial features as a bronze bead previously found. 33. What is Paragraph 3 mainly about? A. The significance of the bronze statues. B. Similar images of the unearthed status. C. The digging process of the bronze statues. D. The characteristics of the thee bronze statues. 34. What makes one bronze statue look like "Ultraman"? A. Its eyes and crown. B. Its hairstyle. C. Its unique pose. D. Its crown-shaped hat. 35. What can be the best title for the text? A. An ancient kingdom was newly discovered. B. Mysterious Sanxingdui Ruins reveal more relics. C. Sichuan Province is the birthplace of a new civilization. D. New Sanxingdui pits catch the attention of archaeologists. I’ve always dealt with anxiety. In 1798, a doctor named Edward Jenner published the results of his experiments using this procedure, earning ___58___ (he) fame as the “Father of Immunology”. That’s not all. They stayed in the blood ___60___ case the disease ever returned. Because cowpox and smallpox are fairly similar, if a person was later exposed to the more serious disease, antibodies were ready ___61___ (fight) it too. This year, however, her parents announced a new rule: no phones for the entire week. “But my friends will be expecting updates about the trip, "Kathy complained. Kathy's mom gave her a serious look. Unwillingly, Kathy handed her phone over and her mom locked it away. The drive to the beach house took most of the day. As they turned off the highway onto country back roads the clouds darkened. Rain started to pour. "Even more beautiful in the rain," her mother said. " What do you think, Kathy?" Kathy glared at her mom. "Beautiful, "she muttered. That night after dinner, Kathy wandered into the kitchen, where her father was washing dishes. She gave her father a loving look and said in her sweetest voice, "Couldn’t I have my phone back, just for one second? Just so I can tell everyone what an amazing time I'm having?” “Can't, "he said. "It's not here. Remember?" Kathy was very annoyed. Having nothing better to do, she examined the dusty bookcase in the living room. The books looked as dull as the weather. On the top shelf, however, she spotted a puzzle. She took it, emptied the pieces on the table, and began to sort them. After what seemed like a few minutes, she looked up. It was past ten o'clock. She had been working for almost two hours! She yawned. The puzzle was less than half done, but she was exhausted. So, she went to bed. When Kathy awoke the next morning she jumped out of bed and threw open the curtains. A blazing sun was rising over the blue ocean. The sky was cloudless. The scene reminded Kathy of a photo that her friend betty had recently sent her. This view was even better. It would leave everyone speechless. Kathy dashed to her bedside table and reached for her phone. But there was nothing there. She sighed. Still, she wandered in front of the window, admiring the sunrise. 注意:1. 续写词数应为150左右; 2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 After a quick breakfast, Kathy headed to the beach. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Appreciating the finished puzzle, she realized she hadn't thought of her cellphone for hours. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $第一部分听力。第一节听下面5段对话,每段对话后有一个小题,从题中所给的ABC3个选项中选出最佳选项,并标在试卷的相应位置。听完每段对话后,你都有10秒钟的时间来回答有关小题和阅读下一小题,每段对话仅读一遍。Text one hy, Linda, I want to know something about canada. Future astronaut training program 【答案】24. C 25. C 26. D 27. C 【解析】 【分析】本文是新闻报道。文章介绍了怀揣登天梦的Nora Almatrooshi和她的同伴通过自己的努力最终进入宇航员训练计划的故事 【24题详解】 细节理解题。根据第三段“The two are looking forward to the laborious 30-month program ahead of them which has already begun with them getting their divers’ licences, picking up the Russian language and coaching for their many media interviews—and will move on to flight and weightlessness school at the Johnson Space Centre in Texas and eventually cruel survival training.( 随着他们得到潜水执照,学会俄语,为他们的许多媒体采访提供指导,两人都期待着在他们之前已经开始的为期30个月的艰苦计划,)”可知,他们已经学会了与媒体打交道,故选C。 【25题详解】 细节理解题。根据第七段的“Leading big construction projects in the desert has helped equip the daughter of two academics—a PhD father and English teacher mother—for Lunar construction.(在沙漠中领导的大型建筑项目帮助两位学者的女儿——博士父亲和英语教师母亲——为月球建设做好了准备)”可知,在她的父母领导的大型建筑项目中,她为进行月球建设做好了准备,因此她有在大型建筑项目方面的经验是她成为培训计划的成员的主要因素。 根据第一段“The new member to the UAE's astronaut training program, the first female Emirati (阿联酋) astronaut, hopes that her mechanical engineering degree will be her ticket to the moon.(阿联酋宇航员训练计划的新成员,首位女阿联酋宇航员,希望她的机械工程学位能成为她登上月球的门票)”以及下文内容可知,文章介绍了怀揣登天梦的Nora Almatrooshi和她的同伴通过自己的努力最终进入宇航员训练计划的故事,C项“passion and preparations(激情和准备)”为最佳标题。故选C。 Researchers in the Netherlands in 2014 first defined bedtime procrastination (拖延) as failing to go to bed at the intended time, while no external circumstances prevent a person from doing so. “Bedtime procrastination” is a type of compensation, a psychological strategy that allows people to redirect their frustrations and insecurities, according to local psychologists in China. 【答案】28. D 29. B 30. C 31. A. Was there a connection? Some decided there was and inserted (嵌入的) material from the cowpox into an incision they cut on the arm of healthy people, thus somehow ___57___ (protect) them from smallpox. In 1798, a doctor named Edward Jenner published the results of his experiments using this procedure, earning ___58___ (he) fame as the “Father of Immunology”. Scientists later figured out that cowpox somehow protected one from smallpox. When people caught cowpox, their bodies made special cells ___59___ (call) antibodies. They fought the disease. That’s not all. They stayed in the blood ___60___ case the disease ever returned. Because cowpox and smallpox are fairly similar, if a person was later exposed to the more serious disease, antibodies were ready ___61___ (fight) it too. That knowledge helped scientists develop vaccines. The term vaccination originated from Latin. They contain the viruses, weakened, dead or modified (改良的). Injected into the blood, they trick the immune system into making antibodies. ___62___ the body ever meets with those same ___63___ (virus), even at full strength, the antibodies make short work of them. Vaccination prior to ___64___ (expose) to the virus is ideal. But a vaccination given within three days of exposure will ____65____ (complete) prevent or significantly modify smallpox in the majority of people and given within the first four to seven days will likely offer some protection or soften the disease. 【答案】56. the 57. protecting 58. himself##his 59. called 60. in 61. to fight 62. As they turned off the highway onto country back roads, the clouds darkened. After what seemed like a few minutes she looked up. It was past ten o'clock. She had been working for almost two hours! She yawned. The puzzle was less than half done, but she was exhausted. So, she went to bed. When Kathy awoke the next morning, she jumped out of bed and threw open the curtains. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】After a quick breakfast, Kathy headed to the beach. Under no circumstances had Kathy expected the scenery to be so spectacular! With the sea wind blowing against her face, Kathy totally lost herself in the stunning views. After half an hour's leisure walk along the beach, Kathy returned to the house. “How do I spend the rest of the day?” Kathy murmured to herself. Suddenly, the unfinished puzzle caught her attention. She felt a little excited and buried herself in it once again. Every time the shapes met, Kathy was overwhelmed with happiness. Soon, all that were left were a few gaps. She quickly put the remaining pieces into place. The puzzle was completed! Appreciating the finished puzzle, she realized she hadn’t thought of her cellphone for hours. Trying to preserve the image in her mind, she quietly started taking it apart rather than taking pictures to update about the trip. That, she thought, was just for me. Without the distractions from her cellphone, she found herself engaged in story sharing session with mom and daddy willingly. They spent a high-quality family time together. On arriving home, mom gave her cellphone back. This time, however, she had no intention to share but to keep all the great memories in her mind. 3.词汇激活: 行为类: 前往:head to/race for/rush to/dash to 嘟哝着:murmured/muttered/grumbled 吸引注意力:caught her attention/catch her eye/draw her attention 情绪类: 十分高兴:was overwhelmed with happiness/was immersed in happiness/be bathed in happiness 激动的:excited/trilled/ fevered/stirred 【点睛】【高分句型1】Appreciating the finished puzzle, she realized she hadn’t thought of her cellphone for hours.(这句话用了现在分词appreciating做状语。) 【高分句型2】With the sea wind blowing against her face, Kathy totally lost herself in the stunning views.(这句话用了with的复合结构。) 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
