B ①I was born with a rare disorder, for which I’ve lived with pain, both physical and mental, my whole life. But things blew up in 2020 when I changed my job. And when I realized that I needed to slow down, I took up things that required presence. So I slowed down. I took up birding, which required a huge amount of awareness. I added it to my self-care routine. ②To combine my new-found hobby with my long-standing passion: travel, my husband and I planned a trip to Guatemala. ③Knut, our guide, picked us up before dawn. We drove in sleepy silence to a nature reserve, where Knut purposefully pulled over at a seemingly random place. Knut said it was a meeting place of owls (猫头鹰), a great spot to see one. ④In the completely black forest, unknown birds blew their evil clown whistles. “I can’t see my hand in front of my face. How am I going to spot an owl?” I thought. ⑤Knut pulled a speaker out. Then it let out a long calling sound. We waited and waited. Nothing happened. ⑥Just as dawn was breaking and I was losing interest, a non-digital sound rang out. Our owl friend landed in a nearby tree where I could barely make out its black shape. Knut quickly readied the scope and shone a flashlight about five feet away from the bird. Watching the details of every feather through the scope, I muttered, “Thanks owl, thanks universe.” After a few minutes, the bird disappeared without a sound. ⑦More than 60 different species later, our two-day expedition was over and Knut invited us to his yard to go over “the checklist.” Lists can memorialize a field day. While we were deeply involved in checking, Knut interrupted at times to point out who was visiting his bird feeders. A clan, a redstar... I held my breath when the violet sabrewing hummingbird touched down. Honestly, who designed these things? Incredible. At that moment, I realized that hiking with Knut was a huge success, but observing the birds in his yard was definitely the highlight. ⑧Now, I still like birding, which keeps reminding me that if I slow down and pay attention, what I’m looking for is usually right in front of me. 24. Why did the author start birding? A. To follow advice. B. To explore nature. C. To escape job stress. D. To practice self-care. 25. How did the author feel when she saw the owl? A. Anxious. B. Depressed. C. Grateful. D. Calm. 26. Which part of the journey did the author like best? A. Getting to know Knut. B. Birding in Knut’s yard. C. Going over the “checklist”. D. Hiking in a nature reserve. 27. What can we learn from the passage? A. Slowing down shows what lies in front. B. Pursuing passion is the path to success. C. Experiencing misfortune is a valuable lesson. D. Being patience achieves what seems impossible. C Alongside efforts to reduce carbon dioxide from burning fossil fuels, some scientists are also looking for processes that could remove some of the gas that’s already up there. Now, Yaghi, a chemist at UC Berkeley, and his team have developed a new material that they say could be a game changer for this task. The material, known as a covalent organic framework (共价有机框架), is called COF-999. Within the framework are amines (胺). When air flows through the material, most components pass freely through, but the amines pick up acidic bits of carbon dioxide. COF-999 performs remarkably well at absorbing carbon dioxide. In one experiment, researchers put a tube filled with the material outside and measured the carbon dioxide concentrations after air passed through. The exiting air was totally free of the greenhouse gas. Study lead author Zihui Zhou also says that a mere 200 grams of COF-999 can absorb up to 44 pounds of carbon dioxide in one year — the same as a large tree. Especially promising is how COF-999 releases carbon dioxide after absorbing carbon dioxide. Typically, after carbon capture (捕获) technologies remove the gas from the atmosphere, engineers have to heat the material to get it to release the absorbed carbon dioxide. Then, the gas is often used in industrial applications or stored deep underground in bedrock. This heating process is expensive and energy-intensive, since traditional carbon capture materials must be heated to high temperatures. But COF-999 releases its stores at just 140 degrees Fahrenheit—more than 100 degrees cooler than the materials currently in use. What’s more, it can go through more than 100 cycles of absorbing and releasing carbon dioxide without losing any effectiveness. Jennifer Wilcox, a chemical engineer at the University of Pennsylvania, says that many questions remain, like whether COF-999 might restrict airflow when applied, thus increasing energy consumption, in turn. The answers, says Wilcox, “will ultimately determine costs and the material’s usefulness”. Regardless, chemists will continue to work on new carbon capture technologies. 28. What is the primary function of COF-999 as described in the passage? A. To reduce CO2 output. B. To replace fossil fuels. C. To capture existing CO2. D. To improve industrial efficiency. 29. The method the writer uses to develop paragraph 3 is ________. A. giving examples B. citing quotes C. making comparisons D. offering definitions 30. What sets COF-999 apart from traditional CO2 capture materials? A. Reduced production cost. B. Limited cycle stability. C. Low regeneration temperature. D. High CO, absorption capacity. 31. What is Jennifer Wilcox’s attitude toward COF-999’s usefulness? A. Optimistic. B. Impartial. C. Resistant. D. Unconcerned. D For many individuals, sports have long served as a source of enjoyment and relaxation. Watching sports goes beyond entertainment. It fosters a sense of community and belonging among audiences. This sense of connection not only makes individuals feel good but also benefits society. Although it is popularly recognized for its positive effects, existing studies on the relationship between watching sports and well-being offer only limited evidence. Recognizing this gap, a team of researchers from Waseda University, Japan, took on a groundbreaking study. “A significant challenge in well-being research is the subjective nature of measurement procedures, potentially leading to incomplete findings. Therefore, our studies focused on both subjective and objective measures of well-being,” explains Prof. Sato, one of the leaders. In the first study, the researchers analyzed publicly available data on the influence of watching sports on 20,000 Japanese residents. They discovered the consistent improvement of well-being was associated with regular sports viewing, which confirmed the widely considered opinion. However, this study wasn’t able to provide deeper insight. The second study, an online survey aimed at investigating whether the connection between sports viewing and well-being varied depending on the type of sport observed. The experiment exposed them to various sports videos, assessing their well-being both before and after viewing. The findings underlined that widely welcomed sports such as baseball had a more significant impact on increasing well-being. However, the most noticeable part of this research is the third study. Here, the team employed neuroimaging(神经影像) techniques to track changes in brain activity following sports viewing. The investigation showed that sports viewing activated the brain’s reward circuits, indicating feelings of happiness or pleasure. “Both subjective and objective measures of well-being were found to be positively influenced by engaging in sports viewing. For those seeking to increase their overall well-being, regularly watching sports, can serve as an effective way. And this research can contribute significantly to sports management practices and policy-making for public health.” Comments Sato. 32. What does the underlined word “fosters” in Paragraph 1 mean? A. Uses. B. Develops. C. Broadcasts. D. Presents. 33. Why did the team conduct the study? A. Relevant study was lacking. B. This topic was meaningful. C They care about the society. D. They accepted official assignments. 34. What views do most people agree with? A. The use of multiple study means matters. B. Well-being is affected by lots of factors. C. Watching sports can boost happiness. D. Baseball has positive effects on health. 35. What does the Sato imply in the last paragraph? A. Watching sports is a necessity to live well. B Future policies might support watching sports. C. Further study will find the most effective sports. D. Everyone has a different definition of well-being. Research shows that friendships are really important to all of us. My parents worked hard, but money was always tight. Despite the challenges, my parents always taught me the importance of kindness and generosity, even when we had little to give. One day, our school announced a volunteer activity to help an elderly woman in the nearby community. She lived alone and needed assistance with daily tasks. The school encouraged students to donate money to support her. When I got home that evening, I told my mom about the initiative. She listened attentively. “Why don’t we make her a basket of homemade cookies?” my mom suggested, her voice full of enthusiasm. “I’m sure she’d love something fresh and homemade.” I hesitated. I worried that my classmates would think less of me for not contributing cash. “It’s the thought that counts,” Mom said gently, placing a hand on my shoulder. The next morning, I arrived at school with a basket of cookies my mom and I had made together the night before. The smell of freshly baked goods filled the air, and I could see the effort and love that had gone into each piece. When it was time to collect donations, my classmates, one by one, pulled out their wallets and placed crisp bills into the collection box. I stepped forward with my basket. The room fell silent. “Why did you bring food?” one of my classmates asked, her voice filled with disdain (鄙视). “We’re supposed to donate money.” “Maybe her family is too poor to donate anything else,” Another student whispered loudly, drawing a few more giggles (笑) from the others. I felt my cheeks reddened with embarrassment. I wanted to explain, but the words stuck in my throat. But then I remembered my mom’s words, “Sometimes, the best gifts come from the heart.” I took a deep breath and held my head high. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ After school, we went to the elderly woman’s house with my basket of cookies. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $null 2025届蕲春实高第五次模拟考试 英 语 (考试时间:120分钟 试卷满分:150分) 第一部分 听力 (共两节,满分30分) 注意,听力部分答题时,请先将答案标在试卷上。 What caused the woman to leave her home? Developing new technologies. A 18. B 19. A 20. China’s first animated feature film, Princess Iron Fan, was released only four years after Walt Disney released the world’s first animated feature, Snow White in 1937. During the mid-20th century, China’s golden age of animation resulted in a series of hits and raised the prospect that the country could become a creative animation powerhouse. And the animation Ne Zha in 2019 has proved this thought to be true. Since then, with many tech companies investing in the sector, Chinese animation studios are developing rapidly. A growing talent pool of artists and technologists, and the new 3D modeling capabilities are letting them produce work as complex as that from Disney and Pixar. I personally support the studio Light Chaser Animation, since they’ve produced high-quality films adapted from different Chinese folktales. And I’ve taken my students to see its newly released film, Chang An, which has been widely praised with educational significance. Now, the main problem of Chinese animation seems to be the method of telling mysterious stories to audiences around the world, since it’s not easy to explain the backgrounds and meaningful stories in a foreign language. Yet, we all have faith that Chinese animation has a bright future. A The Norman Bird Sanctuary (禁猎区) provides the perfect environment for a family gathering, a sweet wedding and other small events. 24. D 25. C 26. B 27. C 29. A 30. C 31. 根据第二段“When air flows through the material, most components pass freely through, but the amines pick up acidic bits of carbon dioxide.(当空气流经这种材料时,大多数成分都可以自由通过,但胺类物质会吸收一些酸性的二氧化碳)”可知,COF-999的主要功能是捕获二氧化碳。 根据第三段“COF-999 performs remarkably well at absorbing carbon dioxide. In one experiment, researchers put a tube filled with the material outside and measured the carbon dioxide concentrations after air passed through. The exiting air was totally free of the greenhouse gas. Study lead author Zihui Zhou also says that a mere 200 grams of COF-999 can absorb up to 44 pounds of carbon dioxide in one year — the same as a large tree.(COF-999在吸收二氧化碳方面表现得非常好。在一项实验中,研究人员将一根装满这种材料的管子放在外面,测量空气通过后的二氧化碳浓度。排出的空气完全没有温室气体。该研究的主要作者周子辉还表示,仅仅200克COF-999一年就能吸收44磅的二氧化碳,这与一棵大树的吸收量相同)”可知,作者用来展开第三段的方法是举例子。故选A。 根据倒数第二段“This heating process is expensive and energy-intensive, since traditional carbon capture materials must be heated to high temperatures. But COF-999 releases its stores at just 140 degrees Fahrenheit — more than 100 degrees cooler than the materials currently in use.(这种加热过程既昂贵又耗能,因为传统的碳捕获材料必须加热到高温。但是COF-999释放的温度只有华氏140度,比目前使用的材料低100多度)”可知,COF-999与传统的二氧化碳捕集材料的不同在于再生温度低。故选C。 【31题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段“Jennifer Wilcox, a chemical engineer at the University of Pennsylvania, says that many questions remain, like whether COF-999 might restrict airflow when applied, thus increasing energy consumption, in turn. The answers, says Wilcox, “will ultimately determine costs and the material’s usefulness”. Regardless, chemists will continue to work on new carbon capture technologies.(宾夕法尼亚大学的化学工程师Jennifer Wilcox说,还有许多问题有待解决,比如COF-999在使用时是否会限制气流,从而增加能耗。Wilcox说,答案“将最终决定成本和材料的实用性”。无论如何,化学家们将继续研究新的碳捕获技术)”可知,Jennifer Wilcox对COF-999的有用性持中立态度。故选B。 D For many individuals, sports have long served as a source of enjoyment and relaxation. C. They care about the society. B. Future policies might support watching sports. C. Further study will find the most effective sports. D. Everyone has a different definition of well-being. 32. B 33. A 34. C 35. As a participant of this activity, I felt greatly inspired and enlightened. This activity kicked off with a lecture where volunteers imparted practical knowledge of essential digital skills to the elderly, after which volunteers were paired with senior citizens for hands-on learning experiences. During this session, volunteers patiently instructed how to apply basic mobile phone apps for daily usage, such as online communication, hospital appointment and cashless payments. What impressed us most was that some volunteers prepared user-friendly manuals with visual aid to foster comprehension. When Granny Li broke into a radiant smile after knowing how to chat with families online, I was overwhelmed with a deep sense of satisfaction. This activity endows me with a new perspective of the essence of technology. Digital technology not only renders us convenience but also boosts inter-generational communication, thus helping create a harmonious and inclusive society. 词汇积累 见证:witness→ see 开始:kick off→ start 耐心地:patiently→ with patience 促进:foster→ enhance 2. Digital technology not only renders us convenience but also boosts inter-generational communication, thus helping create a harmonious and inclusive society. Digital technology not only renders us convenience but also boosts inter-generational communication, which thus helps create a harmonious and inclusive society. 1】This activity kicked off with a lecture where volunteers imparted practical knowledge of essential digital skills to the elderly, after which volunteers were paired with senior citizens for hands-on learning experiences.(运用了where引导的定语从句和which引导的定语从句) 【高分句型2】What impressed us most was that some volunteers prepared user-friendly manuals with visual aid to foster comprehension.(运用了what引导的主语从句和that引导的表语从句) 第二节(满分25分) 67. The Best Kind of Charity I grew up in a family that barely made ends meet. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】范文 I took a deep breath and held my head high. “Actually,” I said softly, “I thought she might like something homemade. Anyhow, it’s the thought that counts.” The room fell silent again, and for a moment, I thought they might continue to tease me. But then, something unexpected happened. One of the girls stepped forward, looking at the basket and then backed me up. “That’s really thoughtful,” she said sincerely. Slowly, others began to nod in agreement. The tension in the room eased, and I felt a sense of relief wash over me. Maybe they didn’t fully understand, but at least they respected my effort. After school, we went to the elderly woman’s house with my basket of cookies. She welcomed us with a warm smile, her eyes lighting up when she saw the basket of cookies. “This is so thoughtful. Thank you.” She said, her voice trembling with gratitude. As we spent the afternoon with her, helping with chores and sharing stories, I realized that my mom had been right all along. It wasn’t about the amount of money we gave; it was about the love and care we put into our actions. And the best gifts always come from the heart. 词汇激活 行为类 ①认为:think/assume ②缓解:ease/relieve ③席卷:wash over/flood over 情绪类 ①体贴:thoughtful/considerate ②感激:gratitude/thankfulness 【点睛】[高分句型1] One of the girls stepped forward, looking at the basket and then backed me up.(现在分词作状语) [高分句型2] As we spent the afternoon with her, helping with chores and sharing stories, I realized that my mom had been right all along.(as引导时间状语从句和that引导宾语从句) 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
