Sometimes, when we talk to our pet dogs, they tilt(倾斜) their heads. Why do they do that? Now, some scientists from Hungary (匈牙利) may find out the answer.
The scientists did a study on 40 dogs. First, they asked some people to teach their dogs the names of some toys. Then, they asked the dogs to pick out the toys. The scientists wanted to see if the dogs could remember the toysˈ names.
They found some dogs were good at learning the names of toys. They called these dogs Gifted Word Learner (GWL) dogs. GWL dogs could remember more than 10 toys, but other dogs couldnˈt even remember two.
When the scientists asked the dogs to get a toy, GWL dogs tilted their heads 43% of the time, but other dogs did so only 2%. The team thought tilting heads may show the dogs are thinking about the meaning(意思) of the words. Interestingly, the direction(方向) of each dog's head tilt was always the same, left!
