It was the final part of the 2016 World Triathlor Series in Mexico. With just 700 metres to go, Alistair Brownlee was in third place and his younger brother, Johnny, was in the lead. Alistair rushed to the finish line in the burning heat, but as he came round the corner, he saw his brother about to fall onto the ground. Alistair had to choose—brotherly love, or a chance to win the race? For Alistair, the choice was clear. His brother was in trouble. He had to help.
Alistair ran to Johnny, caught him and started pulling him to the finish line. Alistair then pushed his brother over the line. The move put Johnny in second place and Alistair himself in third. It was an unexpected end to the race but Alistair did not want to discuss it with the media. He just wanted to see his younger brother, who was in the medical area.
The Brownlee brothers have been doing triathlons since they were children. “You know, when your older brother is doing it, you think it’s a cool thing to do,” says Johnny. Alistair says that they encourage each other as much as they can when they train. Although they argue over “stupid things” now and then, Alistair agrees that having a brother is an advantage. “In my whole life, I’ve had my brother trying to beat me at everything I do. It has been a great thing.”
Many people couldn’t understand Alistair’s actions. For Alistair, his decision was easy to make: “Mum wouldn’t have been happy if I’d left Johnny behind.” At that moment, he was no longer a sportsman for a medal—he was just a brother.
4. What happened to Alistair Brownlee according to Paragraph 1?
A. He was in the lead but fell near the finish line.
B. He won the race easily with the help of his brother.
C. He saw his brother nearly fall and chose to help him.
D. He decided to give up the race to rest in the burning heat.
5. What does the underlined word “it” in Paragraph 2 refer to (指代)?
A. The result of the race. B. The finish line.
C. His secret of success. D. His brother’s trouble.
6. Why does Alistair think that having a brother is “an advantage”?
A. His brother Johnny has always pushed him to be better.
B. Having a brother means having a lifelong family member.
C. His brother helps him win every race with the team spirit.
D. Having a brother can help him to avoid doing stupid things.
7. What can be the best title of the text?
A. A Chance to Win B. Just a Brother
C. An Unexpected End D. Medal Over Family

Imagine you taking a pleasant walk down the street on a Sunday morning. The sky turns dark and suddenly it starts to rain heavily. Unluckily, you don’t have an umbrella with you. It will take you at least fifteen minutes to walk home. If you choose to run, that will cut the time in half. Which one would you choose?
Some people believe that they should run home. It makes good sense: The less time you spend out in the rain, the less wet you will get. Others think that if they run, they will hit the raindrops with greater speed and get more of the water. When they walk, on the other hand, they will hit the water slower and get less of it. So, which view is correct?
Over the years, scientists have done many different experiments to answer this question. All of them have found the same answer. In order to get less wet without an umbrella, one must move as fast as possible in the rain. In one of these experiments, for example, two people set out together in heavy rain.
Both of them wore the same cotton sweaters. One person ran to the end of a 100-meter path, while the other walked there. Then, they each weighed their sweaters. The walker’s sweater weighed 40 percent more than the runner’s. Clearly, the walker had got more water on the way.
If you’re interested, you can do a simple experiment with a friend. Prepare two sponges (海绵) in your schoolbag. When it rains, you two can each take one sponge. Stick your sponges out of your umbrellas so that they can get the rain. Have your friend run to the end of a path and you walk there. Then, squeeze (挤压) the water out of each sponge. Which of you will collect more water? Hope to hear the results of your experiment soon!
8. How does the writer lead into the topic?
A. By sharing an unlucky story about rain experiments.
B. By presenting a common situation and a question.
C. By describing a personal experience on a rainy day.
D. By explaining the science behind rain and movement.
9. What may influence people’s view on getting less wet according to Paragraph 2?
①The type of shoes they have on.
②The amount of time spent in the rain.
③The direction of the wind during the rain.
④The speed of a person’s movement through the rain.
A. ①② B. ①③ C. ②④ D. ③④
10. What can we know from the experiment in Paragraph 3?
A. Running in the rain makes you completely dry.
B. Moving faster in the rain helps you get less wet.
C. Cotton sweaters are the best choice for rainy days.
D. The walker’s sweater got less water than the runner’s.
11. What can be the best name for the experiment according to Paragraph 4?
A. The Sponge Water Challenge.
B. Testing Speed and Power of Rain.
C. Rainy Day Science: Sponges vs Umbrellas.
D. Run or Walk: Who Stays Drier in the Rain?.
【答案】8. B 9. C 10. B 11. D

Many food myths about healthy eating lead us to make poor choices. Understanding the truth behind these ideas helps us make better food choices and stay healthy. Let’s explore four facts.
The human body needs to eat many different types of food to stay healthy. The Chinese Food Guide Pagoda (中国食品指南塔) shows us what food we should eat. While fruit and vegetables are healthy choices, it is just as important to eat foods from other food groups. Milk, for example, has many nutrients (营养) and is good for our bones. We should include milk or dairy products among the things we eat.
“Eating fat makes you fat.”
Eating fat is important for keeping us healthy. It gives us energy and helps our body to take in nutrients. Not all fat makes us gain weight. Some fat can even encourage our body to lose weight. For example, fats in foods like nuts are good for your heart and help your body use energy better. It is necessary to include some, but not too much, fat in our food to help our body work well.
“It’s OK to eat only what I like while I’m young.”
When we are young, it might feel like we can just eat whatever we want! For example, sweets and fried foods taste delicious. But we cannot eat those foods alone. Having a balanced (均衡的) eating habits is very important when we are young. It helps our body and brain to grow well. Bad eating habits may stay with us our whole life, so it is best to develop good eating habits when we are young!
“What you want to eat means what you need.”
Sometimes, our body wants certain foods because it needs the nutrients in them. But often, we just want foods because we like how they taste, not because our body needs them. For example, we might want candy, but our body doesn’t really need that sugar. It’s good to eat different kinds of foods, like fruits, vegetables and grains, to make sure we get all the nutrients we need. Just eating what we want can make us miss out on important vitamins and minerals.
12. What does the underlined word “myths” in Paragraph 1 probably mean?
A. true facts B. old stories C. wrong ideas D. science rules
13. Which of the following is the best to fill in the blank “________”?
A. “Only fruit and vegetables are healthy foods.”
B. “Drinking milk every day is good for our bones.”
C. “Snacks and drinks are just as healthy as fruits and vegetables.”
D. “You don’t need to eat fruits or vegetables a lot to stay healthy.”
14. What are the four facts in common?
A. They all show the influence of eating fruits and vegetables.
B. They all discuss how to avoid getting fat and missing nutrients.
C. They all explain why eating only one type of food is unhealthy.
D. They all use examples to show the importance of balanced eating.
15. What is the purpose of the text?
A. To encourage people to stop eating sweet and fried food.
B. To explain why food can help our body use energy better.
C. To correct food myths and develop balanced eating habits.
D. To advise people to follow the Chinese Food Guide Pagoda.
