Step 1: Choose one of the stories from this unit.
Step 2: Work together to write a short play.
Step 3: Assign roles and practice the play.
Step 4: Perform the play.
Step 5: Vote for the best play and actor.
本写作任务要求写一个英文剧本。剧本是一种文学形式,主要由台词和舞台说明组成。其中,舞台说明包括剧中人物介绍、剧情发生的时间及地点、服装、道具、布景以及人物的表情、动作、上下场等。
写英文剧本时,应注意以下几点:
1. 剧本的结构一般分为:开端、发展、转折、高潮、结局。但剧本的结构并非一成不变,不同的剧本结构各有不同。
2. 剧本主要由人物的对话构成,剧本台词应简洁明了,符合人物身份、形象和剧情发展,语言衔接合理,能让观众明白剧本所表达的主要内容。
3. 剧本中人物的刻画主要通过对话实现,所以台词要体现人物的鲜明个性。
4. 舞台说明通过对表情、动作的描写体现人物的心理活动和特点,多用一般现在时或现在进行时,并使用斜体,放入括号内。

Dialogues(对话): the words said by the characters

《The Ugly Duckling》

Narrator(旁白)
(The stage is set with a cozy nest. Mother Duck is sitting on a pile of eggs. The eggs start to hatch, and little ducklings come out, all except for one big egg.)
Mother Duck: Quack, quack! My babies are hatching! Oh, look at these cute little ducklings!
(The ducklings come out and start waddling around.)
Duck Brothers and Sisters: Quack, quack! We are so happy to be here!
Scene 1: In the Duck Nest(鸭巢)
(Suddenly, the big egg cracks open, and the Ugly Duckling comes out.)
Ugly Duckling: Quack... I'm here!
Duck Brothers and Sisters: Eww, you are so big and gray. You don't look like us.
Mother Duck: Oh, my dear child, don't worry. You will grow up to be beautiful too.
Ugly Duckling: I hope so.
(The ducklings start to play, but the Ugly Duckling is left out.)
Duck Brothers and Sisters: You can't play with us. You are too different.
Ugly Duckling: (sadly) Okay, I'll go away.
(The Ugly Duckling starts to walk away.)
(The stage is set with a farmyard scene. The Hen and the Cat are sitting together.)
Hen: Cluck, cluck! I lay eggs every day. I am so useful.
Cat: Meow! I catch mice. I am very important too.
(The Ugly Duckling comes in.)
Ugly Duckling: Quack, quack! Hello, can I stay here?
Hen: Look at you! You don't lay eggs. You are not useful.
Cat: And you can't catch mice. You are not important.
Ugly Duckling: (crying) I just want to have friends.
Scene 2: In the Farmyard(农场)
(The Farmer comes in.)
Farmer: Oh, poor little duck. You can stay here with me.
Ugly Duckling: Thank you, kind Farmer!
(The Ugly Duckling stays with the Farmer, but still feels lonely.)
(The stage is set with a beautiful pond. The Swan is swimming gracefully.)
Swan: Quack, quack! I am so beautiful. I love swimming in the pond.
(The Ugly Duckling comes to the pond.)
Ugly Duckling: Quack, quack! I want to be beautiful like you.
Swan: You are not like me. You are just an ugly duckling.
Ugly Duckling: (sadly) I guess I will never be beautiful.
Scene 3: In the Pond(池塘)
(The Ugly Duckling starts to swim away. Suddenly, the seasons change, and it becomes spring.)
Narrator: Time passes, and the Ugly Duckling grows bigger and bigger.
(The Ugly Duckling looks at its reflection in the water.)
Ugly Duckling: Oh, my goodness! I am not an ugly duckling anymore! I am a beautiful swan!
(The other swans come and welcome the Ugly Duckling.)
Swan: Welcome, beautiful swan! You are one of us now.
Ugly Duckling: (happily) I am so happy! I finally found my place.
(The Ugly Duckling and the other swans swim together happily.)
(The stage is set with the farm scene again. The Mother Duck and the other ducklings are waiting.)
Mother Duck: Quack, quack! I wonder where my little duckling is.
(The Ugly Duckling, now a beautiful swan, comes back.)
Ugly Duckling (Swan): Quack, quack! Mother, I am back!
Mother Duck: Oh, my dear child! You have become so beautiful! I always knew you would!
Duck Brothers and Sisters: Wow, you are so pretty! We are sorry we were mean to you.
Scene 4: Back to the Farm(回到农场)
Ugly Duckling (Swan): It's okay. I have learned that beauty is not just about looks. It's about being kind and finding your own place in the world.
(Everyone is happy and celebrates together.)
Narrator: And so, the Ugly Duckling became a beautiful swan, and they all lived happily ever after. The end.
(The curtain falls.)
