Finishing a marathon (马拉松)—a 26.2-mile (42.2-kilometer) race—is always special. But the marathon that Hilde Dosogne finished on December 31, 2024 was super-special: it was the 1 of the 366 marathons she had run in 2024.
Last year, Dosogne, a 55-year-old scientist, ran a marathon every day, all year long, making her the first woman to run a marathon every single day of the year. She also raised over $75,000 2 breast cancer research. She knew several friends and fellow runners who had cancer, recovered or went into remission (缓解期)—all stories that had a big 3 on her. That’s why she decided to do the super-special running to help them.
Running 366 marathons means running 9,596 miles (15,444 kilometers). But Dosogne ran even 4 she ran a little more every day, just to make sure she had covered enough distance (距离) to meet the requirements of the Guinness World Records.
Dosogne went to work early, to make sure she had time for a four-hour marathon every afternoon. 5 she ran most of her marathons on a flat (平坦的) way around a lake near Ghent, Belgium, Dosogne faced lots of challenges.
She ran in all kinds of weather. She caught flu and COVID.And she got lots of blisters (水疱). Once, she fell two-thirds of the way through a marathon and hurt her finger. When she got out of the hospital that day, she ran 6 new marathon, rather than completing the one she had started.
She says the running was hard on her 7 , but that remaining strong-minded to keep going was even harder. “I’m glad it’s over,” she said at the end of the final race. Dosogne was asked if she would 8 anyone else to try it. “I wouldn’t. Certainly not. It’s not for everybody”, she replied. “I don’t think I will do anything crazier than this.”
But that doesn’t mean she’s 9 running. In September, she’s planning on running a 153-mile (246-kilometer) race in Greece. It is a small challenge compared to what she achieved last year, but it proves that her love for running remains 10 .

first第一的;last最后的;fastest最快的;shortest最短的。根据“the...of the 366 marathons she had run in 2024”可知,2024年一共跑366场马拉松,12月31日这场是这366场中的最后一场,所以用“last”符合语境。故选B。
in在……里面;with和……一起;for为了;at在。“raise money for...”
“have a big influence on...” 故选A。
根据“she ran a little more every day”可知,她每天多跑一点,也就是在距离上跑得更远,所以用“farther”符合语境。故选B。
If如果;Before在……
another又一;other其他的;the other两者中的另一个;others其他人或物。 故选A。
giving up放弃;giving away赠送;giving off发出(光、热、气味等);giving out分发。根据后文“In September, she’s planning on running a 153 - mile (246 - kilometer) race in Greece.” 故选A。

Huang Xuhua, the main designer of China’s first-generation nuclear submarines (核潜艇), passed away at the age of 99 in Wuhan. Huang spent his whole life on the development of China’s nuclear submarine program.
Born in Guangdong in 1926, Huang grew up during wartime. He studied shipbuilding at Shanghai Jiao Tong University and joined the Communist Party of China in 1949. To avoid mistakes, three groups checked every count. Although the project was stopped from 1962 to 1965 for they were short of money, Huang never gave up.
Finally, in 1970, China successfully built its first nuclear submarine, becoming the fifth country in the world to do so. Huang’s name was kept secret until 1987 because the project was highly confidential (保密的). Even in his nineties, Huang worked daily to teach young engineers and share his knowledge. “You always mess things up.” “What a stupid thing to do!” Have you ever said these things to yourself? The inner critic (批评) is that kind of voice inside your head saying you are not good enough—it always judges (评判) you.
Inner critics develop for different kinds of reasons. The most common one is that this voice of self-doubt comes from things we heard as kids. If parents often put themselves or their children down, those hurtful words can stick. For example, if a mom talks about her weight a lot, her daughter might think the same way about her own body. Similarly, if a parent is not satisfied with the child’s grades, that child might end up giving himself up on schoolwork.
Under the inner critic lies vulnerability (脆弱), and our critics often develop as an unusual form of self-protection. Imagine coming home excited about winning a drawing competition, only to be laughed at by your elder brother. The next time you achieve something, you might be unwilling to share it—or worse, not even know your success.
The inner critic makes an effort to protect us from painful experiences. It keeps us small, shy, and always looking for ways to prevent shame and failure. As a part in need of care, the inner critic wants to be heard and befriended.
To heal (愈合) the hurt, it’s important to first realize the inner critic. When you hear a voice in your head suggesting you shouldn’t try because you’ll only fail, face it and say: “Oh, my critic is here!” Indeed, it is part of us and isn’t going away, but doing this can create some space between you and the critic.
Once you can see the inner critic bravely, you will get better from the hurt behind negative (消极的) self-talk. Parenting experts suggest getting down on the child’s level when providing support. This works for the inner critic too. You might say, “It’s okay to feel scared sometimes. There’s no need to run away from it!” or “We all make mistakes though.”
Only by befriending your inner critic can you start to heal from. the pain and fear behind its voice. It takes time and patience, but it’s worth it. Give it a try!
22.Why does the writer use the examples in Paragraph 2?
A.To tell us the meaning of self-doubt.
B.To describe the common problems kids face.
C.To compare how different parents treat their kids.
D.To explain how inner critics develop from childhood.
23.The words “an unusual form of self-protection” in Paragraph 3 are the closest in meaning to ________
A.an unhealthy way to stay safe B.a helpful way to improve yourself
C.an unusual way to achieve success D.a smart way to deal with failure
24.Which of the following may the writer agree with?
A.The inner critic usually keeps people away from feeling scared.
B.The inner critic actually looks for understanding and support.
C.Negative self-talk helps create space between people and the critic.
D.Negative self-talk can successfully push people to work harder.
25.What is the writer’s main purpose in writing this passage?
A.To advise us not to care about our inner critics.
B.To warn about the negative side of inner critics.
C.To guide us to treat inner critics like our dear friends.
D.To show advantages of making peace with inner critics.

What happens when street dance meets Chinese martial arts (武术) ?
Earlier this month, Song Haoming, 10, and Fu Junxi, 14, made history at Juste Debout 2025 in Paris. Juste Debout is the world’s biggest street dance competition. In the finals, they danced Hip-Hop (嘻哈). They beat stronger adult dancers to enter the final four. Few had expected them to get this far.
In their dance, they used cool Drunken Fist (醉拳) and Tai Chi moves, which impressed the audience deeply. These martial arts elements (元素) added lots of energy to their performance. “The kids made up the moves themselves,” said Ms. Jia, Fu’s mother. “Their hard work paid off, and you could feel the excitement there.”
Chinese elements have been used in street dance before. “Back in 2018, we used traditional culture in our dance called Yellow River,” said Mr. Zhang, who works at CHUC. “We won the Lotus Award, China’s top dance prize.” The use of Chinese elements allows for more possibilities to explore the art of street dance.

They also did well in their group. “All five of our children made it to the final eight in their groups,” said Pan. “But there are many more talented kids in our country. They just need a chance to show themselves.”
54.What kind of moves did Song Haoming and Fu Junxi use in their street dance?

My favourite traditional Chinese art
My favourite traditional Chinese art is paper-cutting. It has a history of over 1,500 years and is full of cultural meaning.
Paper-cutting is usually made with red paper, symbolizing good luck and happiness. Craftsmen use scissors or knives to create beautiful patterns like flowers, animals, and Chinese characters. During the Spring Festival, people put paper-cuts on windows and doors to celebrate the new year.
I love paper-cutting because it shows the wisdom of the Chinese people. Each piece tells a story or expresses good wishes. I once learned to make a paper-cut of a dragon in art class. It was difficult but fun, and I felt proud when I finished it.
Paper-cutting is not only a form of art but also a way to pass on our culture. I hope more people will love this traditional art.

Finishing a marathon (马拉松)—a 26.2-mile (42.2-kilometer) race—is always special. But the marathon that Hilde Dosogne finished on December 31, 2024 was super-special: it was the 1 of the 366 marathons she had run in 2024.

Recently, “emotional (情感的) spending” has become popular in China. Young people may find 20 yuan for a cup of coffee too expensive, but gladly spend over 200 yuan for a coffee cup soft toy. They care about the emotional value it brings more than its practical use.
A coffee-themed shop in the center of Shanghai is very popular. There are no coffee drinks here. Instead, the shop sells soft toys looking like products and desserts in a coffee shop. The staff members imitate (模仿) the real food-making process, performing actions like adding sugar and decorating with cream before packing the toys. That brings more fun to the shopping experience.
A report shows that the price of soft toys have been increasing. Those born between 1990 and 2010 have become the main buyer group in the soft toy market. When work and life bring setbacks (挫折), the touch of these toys can cheer them up.

In 1958, he was chosen to lead a secret project: designing China’s first nuclear-powered submarine. At that time, China had no experience in this field, and foreign countries refused to share their technology.
Huang and his team met huge challenges, and they collected information from newspapers and studied two American submarines. Without computers, they used simple tools like abacuses (算盘) and rulers.

Besides Song and Fu, three other children took part in this year’s Juste Debout event. They also did well in their group. “All five of our children made it to the final eight in their groups,” said Pan. “But there are many more talented kids in our country. They just need a chance to show themselves.”
