In many parts of the world, land that was once forest has changed greatly. Some of the land has become part of cities or towns while some other places no longer have any trees because they’ve been cut down for other reasons. This causes problems. It affects the climate, causes animals to move or die and deserts to become huger.
China needs to plant trees because so many of its forests have been cut down in the last 50 years. Although there are still problems to solve, China’s tree-planting programmes are huge. China plants more trees than the rest of the world. Who are some of the people behind these huge numbers? Let’s find out.
In Jiangxi Province, 83-year-old Zou Lianying has been planting trees on her land for almost 20 years. She knows that planting trees is good for the environment, so at the age of 64, she sold her cows and pigs and borrowed money to open a forest farm. Her family’s forest farm has trees covering about 4 km² with more than 8 million trees. Her trees are worth around 12 million RMB but she won’t cut down even one tree. She believes the forest she is planting will be a gift to future generations (代).
Near Beijing Wei Guiying and a team of helpers have planted millions of trees. They have also been working at this for more than 20 years. Now, 20 km² of hills have turned green. It hasn’t been easy for her. She has borrowed money to pay for young trees. This doesn’t seem to matter to her, though, as she says proudly that she’s not a millionaire (百万富翁) but she has millions of trees.
A lot of work is still needed to prevent deserts from getting larger and to stop the climate from getting warmer, but if more of us can be like these tree heroes, it will certainly make life better for everyone.
5. How does the writer lead in the topic in Paragraph 1 and Paragraph 2?
A. By telling stories. B. By sharing experiences. C. By showing steps. D. By explaining reasons.
6. What do Zou Lianying and Wei Guiying’s team have in common?
A. They opened a forest farm.
B. They have planted 12 million trees.
C. They borrowed money to plant trees.
D. They have planted trees for over twenty years.
7 What’s the writer’s purpose according to the text?
A. To tell people not to cut down trees.
B. To hope more people can plant trees.
C. To try to learn how to plant trees.
D. To introduce people who plant trees.
8. What can be the best title for the text?
A. Tree heroes B. Tree planting C. Problems caused by cutting trees D. Purposes of planting trees

When you think of the Arctic(北极), you imagine an icy land of pure white snow. Others imagine it as the last really clean place left on earth. We have polluted the deepest oceans with plastic rubbish. “And now”, CNN says, “It’s the Arctic’s turn.”
German scientists have recently found micro plastics(塑料微粒) in Arctic snow. Micro plastics are pieces of plastic smaller than 5 millimeters. Sadly, the scientists found 1800 pieces of micro plastics per liter of(每升)snow. ‘How is plastic pollution reaching the Arctic? According to scientists, “It’s clear that most of the micro plastics in the snow come from the air.” They fall off the plastic objects and a removed by the wind, just like dust. They mix with ice in the air and fall to the ground as snow. Finding these plastics in Arctic snow means that we may breathe them in.

Micro plastics have also been found in rivers and oceans around the world. Earlier research has found that they flow over long distances and into our oceans, hurting ecosystems(生态系统) along the way. The Zhongshan Eye Center at the Sun Yat-sen University has achieved a milestone in the field of eye surgery (手术). Doctors there completed the world’s first remote(远程的) micron (纳米的) operation on animals by using an independently developed 5G robot. The operation, which took place on June 23 at the center in Guangzhou, was done by a medical team operating the robot from the Zhongshan Eye Center in Haikou.
The main part of the robot is a special arm that makes accurate(精准的) remote control possible. When it comes to treating eye problems, the common way is to put medicine directly into the eye area which needs treatment. But doctors’ hands shake naturally, making it difficult to be very accurate. The robot can copy tasks usually done by hand, and it performs them steadily (稳定地) and accurately. Another advantage is that even young doctors can perform eye surgery with 5G robot’s help. According to Professor Lin, the leader of the medical team, becoming a skilled eye doctor takes at least 10 years of practice. However, with the help of the robot, young doctors can achieve a high level of accuracy comparable to experienced doctors. The third important point is that using 5G makes it possible for doctors to treat patients far away. Eye doctors can get clear and timely pictures, which makes remote operations dependable.
Still, it’s important to remember that while this technology is promising, more research and tests are needed to make sure it’s safe and works well for patients. “If everything goes well, 5G remote micron eye surgery will be available to humans within half a year,” Lin said. The team will keep working hard to help develop remote medicine in China and increase national medical levels.
41. How did doctors in the Zhongshan Eye Center complete the operation?
__________________________________________________________
42. What is the main part of the robot?
__________________________________________________________
43. When will 5G remote micron eye surgery be probably available to humans?

44. When 5G remote micron eye surgery is available, would you like to advise your friends who need eye surgery to try it? Why or why not? (Give at least two reasons.)

四、阅读与表达(共4小题;41~43小题,每小题2分,44小题4分,满分10分)
__________________________________________________________
44. When 5G remote micron eye surgery is available, would you like to advise your friends who need eye surgery to try it? Why or why not? (Give at least two reasons.)
__________________________________________________________
【答案】41. By using an independently developed 5G robot./ The operation was done by a medical team operating the robot from the Zhongshan Eye Center in Haikou.
42. It is a special arm (that makes accurate remote control possible).

Yours,
Li Ming
【答案】One possible version
Dear editors,
I’m writing to tell you some of my views about living a better life and keeping healthy in school.
As for me, I joined in the sports meeting because I was really good at running and playing the table tennis. Meanwhile, doing sports always keeps me healthy and happy. I also have been in the Spoken English Group for three years, where I have made many friends and my spoken English has improved a lot.
In my opinion, our school should hold other activities. For example, the handicraft class can not only make us relaxed but also give us a sense of achievement. Last but not least, volunteer work also needs to be organized, which makes us realize giving is happier than taking. In short, school activities are quite meaningful to students.
Yours,
Li Ming
