Kindness when travelling comes in so many forms. However, the story that happened in Greece has touched me the most.
I arrived late in Thessaloniki after my flight from the Czech Republic was delayed over three hours. Luckily, my Airbnb hostess still picked me up from the airport and made the 40-minute drive to her place. We got there around 11 pm!
As Greece was the starting point for the Middle East and the last place in my plan that used Euros as currency(货币), I ran low on cash. So I made a decision that I wouldn’t be spending any money on dinner that night. Instead, I would choose a cheap breakfast the next day. Upon hearing this, the mother of the lady hugged me tightly, said something in Greek, laughed, and left. I thought this was a goodnight hug and I prepared to go to bed.
A little bit later the older lady returned, with her daughter and a big plate of cheese, boiled eggs, and salad. She wouldn’t allow me to go to bed without a late-night dinner. I was totally surprised by this kind act towards a stranger. The meal was delicious, and although I tried to offer the ladies money as a thank you for their kindness, they refused. All the worries of the day disappeared and I went to bed smiling and with a full belly.
I loved everything Thessaloniki offered in the way of history, culture, and natural beauty. Despite the ongoing economic difficulties, this friendly Greek family fed a hungry stranger and really made my time in the northern part of Greece.
4. Why did the author decide not to have dinner that night?
A. He had limited cash. B. He was not hungry.
C. He disliked Greek food. D. He arrived too late.
5. Which of the following best describes the older lady?
A. Kind but demanding. B. Considerate and generous.
C. Warm-hearted but impatient. D. Outgoing and humorous.
6. What impressed the author most in Thessaloniki?
A. The free pick-up. B. The late-night dinner.
C. The Greek culture. D. The confusing language.
7. What is the purpose of the text?
A. To offer advice on travelling abroad.
B. To introduce a friendly Greek family.
C. To recommend a destination in Greece.
D. To share a touching travel experience.

Voices from Ukraine: War’s Impact and the Hope for Peace
As a journalist, I recently had the opportunity to talk to several Ukrainians about the ongoing Russo-Ukrainian war. Their stories painted a vivid picture of the war’s toll on the economy, people’s lives, and their longing for peace.
I first met Anna, a 35-year-old mother of two from Kyiv. “The war has changed everything,” she said with a sigh. My husband lost his job at a local factory because it had to shut down due to the destruction of infrastructure. We’re struggling to make ends meet. Prices of basic goods like bread and milk have skyrocketed, and it’s hard to afford even the necessities.”
Ivan a 60-year-old retiree, shared his concerns about the future. “I used to have a small pension (养老金) that was enough for a simple life. But now, with inflation (通货膨胀), it’s barely enough to buy food. Many of my neighbors have left the country, and I’m worried about what will happen to our community.”
When I asked them about their hopes for peace, their eyes lit up. “We just want the war to end,” Anna exclaimed.” My children are constantly scared, and I want them to grow up in a safe environment, without the fear of bombs and gunfire.” Ivan nodded in agreement, saying, “Peace means we can start rebuilding our lives, our homes, and our economy. We’ve suffered enough.”
The war has not only brought economic hardships but has also torn families apart. Many young men have been drafted into the army, leaving their loved ones worried sick.
These conversations with Ukrainians highlight the urgent need for peace. The people of Ukraine are longing for a return to normalcy, for the chance to live without the shadow of war hanging over them.
8. Why did Anna’s husband lose his job?
A. He was drafted into the army.
B. The factory he worked for shut down due to infrastructure destruction.
C. He moved to another country.
D He wanted to take care of his children.
9 What problem is Ivan facing?
A. His pension has decreased.
B. He can’t afford basic goods due to inflation.
C. He has to work harder to make a living.
D. His house was destroyed in the war.
10. What do both Anna and Ivan hope for?
A. To move to a safer country
B. To get more financial support from the government.
C. For the war to end and peace to return.
D. For their relatives to come back home.
11. What can be inferred from the passage?
A. The war has had a relatively small impact on the lives of Ukrainians
B. All Ukrainians have left the country to escape the war.
C. The economic and emotional costs of the war on Ukrainians are significant
D. The war will end soon.

The Sino-US Trade Relationship: Current Situation and Impacts
In recent decades, the trade relationship between China and the United States has been a cornerstone of global economic interaction. China has been the United States’ largest goods trading partner for many years. In 2023, the total value of goods trade between China and the United States reached approximately $690 billion.
China exports a diverse range of products to the US. Textiles and apparel are among the significant exports. In 2023, Chinese textile exports to the US were worth around $35 billion. Electronic products also play a crucial role. For instance, smartphones and laptops made in China accounted for a large share in the US consumer electronics market. In 2023, the value of Chinese-made consumer electronics exports to the US was about $150 billion.
On the import side, the US exports various products to China. Agricultural products are a notable category. In 2023, the value of US agricultural exports to China, such as soybeans, reached about $20 billion. High-tech products are also part of US exports to China, although export restrictions have somewhat curbed (抑制) this trade flow.
However, in recent years, trade frictions have emerged. The US imposed tariffs (关税) on approximately $360 billion worth of Chinese goods starting in 2018. These tariffs have had a significant impact. Chinese exporters faced challenges as the cost-competitiveness of their products in the US market declined. Some industries, like the manufacturing of furniture, saw a decrease in export volumes. In 2019, Chinese furniture exports to the US dropped by about 10% compared to 2018.
China also took counter-measures. It imposed tariffs on about $110 billion worth of US goods. This affected US agricultural exports. For example, US soybean exports to China decreased sharply in 2019. The volume of US soybean exports to China in 2019 was only about 60% of that in 2018.
These trade frictions not only affected two sides’ trade but also had a ripple effect on the global economy. The disruption (中断) of the supply chain was evident. For example, some US manufacturing companies that relied on Chinese components faced shortages and had to adjust their production schedules. The price of some raw materials also fluctuated (波动).
Despite the challenges, both sides recognize the importance of a stable trade relationship. Negotiations (谈判) have been ongoing to find solutions. It is in the interest of both countries to restore a more harmonious and mutually beneficial trade environment.
12. What was the approximate value of the total goods trade between China and the US in 2023?
A. $690 million. B. $690 billion. C. $360 billion. D. $110 billion.
13. Which of the following statements is true according to the passage?
A. Chinese textile exports to the US were worth around $150 billion in 2023.
B. US agricultural exports to China in 2023 were mainly high-tech products.
C. The US imposed tariffs on about $360 billion worth of Chinese goods starting in 2018.
D. Chinese furniture exports to the US increased in 2019 compared to 2018.
14. What was the impact of China’s counter-measures on US agricultural exports?
A. US agricultural exports to China increased sharply.
B. US soybean exports to China decreased sharply in 2019.
C. There was no impact on US agricultural export.
D. US agricultural exports to China only included soybeans.
15. What can be inferred from the passage?
A. Trade frictions between China and the US have no impact on the global economy.
B. The supply chain has not been disrupted by the trade frictions.
C. A stable Sino-US trade relationship is beneficial to both countries.
D. Negotiations between China and the US have reached a perfect solution.

About three years ago, something terrible happened to me. That was the day when it took only six hours to break my body and soul.
One day, my two brothers and I were coming back from the islands where we often risked going and got more fish than others. Suddenly, the sky was covered with dark clouds and in less than a minute we were in a terrible storm. A huge wave covered our boat and my younger brother fell into the sea. My elder brother cried out “Moskoe-strom!” The moment I heard the word I became very frightened. I knew what he meant by that one word well enough.
With the wind and waves, we were going in the direction of the whirlpool (旋涡). We were hopeless. Nothing could save us. It may appear strange, but at that moment, when we were in the edge of the whirlpool, I felt calmer than when we were moving towards it.
I saw clearly that there were other objects in the whirlpool — trees and barrels. After a while, I became curious about the whirlpool itself. I then made three important observations. The first, the larger the bodies were, the more rapidly they fell; the second, between two objects of equal extent, round objects fell down less rapidly; and the third, between two objects of the same size, objects shaped like a tube fell down more slowly. So I tied myself to a barrel to help me float. I tried to make my brother understand, but he was too frightened and stayed in the heavy boat. Without waiting, I jumped into the sea to try and escape.
As you can see, the reason why I’m here to tell the story is that I made the right decision. Some time after I left the boat, with my brother in it, it was pulled into the bottom of the whirlpool. Soon after that, the whirlpool became less wild. I was still tied to the barrel and the waves soon carried me to an area where the other fishermen were. In the end, a boat picked me up.

Ivan, a 60-year-old retiree, shared his concerns about the future.

A. To move to a safer country
B. To get more financial support from the government.
C. For the war to end and peace to return.
D. For their relatives to come back home.
11. What can be inferred from the passage?

13 Which of the following statements is true according to the passage?

故填confident/more confident。
故填with/to。
故填the。
分析句子结构可知,“to watch the panda programme develop”和“to see the pandas settle into their new home”两者是并列关系,应该用and连接。故填and。

About three years ago, something terrible happened to me. That was the day when it took only six hours to break my body and soul.
One day my two brothers and I were coming back from the islands where we often risked going and got more fish than others.

根据第一段中“One day, my two brothers and I were coming back from the islands where we often risked going and got more fish than others. (一天,我和我的两个兄弟从我们经常冒险去且能捕到比别人更多鱼的岛屿回来)”可知,人物是叙述者和他的两个兄弟。故填brothers。
②考查形容词。根据第一段中“One day, my two brothers and I were coming back from the islands where we often risked going and got more fish than others. (一天,我和我的两个兄弟从我们经常冒险去且能捕到比别人更多鱼的岛屿回来)”可知,这些岛屿是他们经常冒险去的地方。此处用形容词risky修饰名词islands,故填risky。
③考查名词。根据第二段中“Suddenly, the sky was covered with dark clouds and in less than a minute we were in a terrible storm. (突然,天空布满了乌云,不到一分钟我们就陷入了一场可怕的风暴中)”可知,天气变化是出现了乌云。故填clouds。
④考查形容词。根据第二段中“A huge wave covered our boat and my younger brother fell into the sea. (一个巨浪盖过了我们的船,我的弟弟掉进了海里)”可知,第一个受害者是弟弟。故填younger。
⑤考查动词。根据第二段中“My elder brother cried out “Moskoe-strom!” (我的哥哥大喊“莫斯可漩涡!”)”可知,哥哥发出了警告,此处用一般过去时。故填cried。
⑥考查副词。根据第四段中“I then made three important observations. The first, the larger the bodies were, the more rapidly they fell(然后我做了三个重要的观察。第一,物体越大,下落得越快)”可知,第一点观察是物体越大下落越迅速。故填rapidly。
⑦考查副词。根据第四段中“the second, between two objects of equal extent, round objects fell down less rapidly(第二,在两个体积相等的物体之间,圆形物体下落得更慢)”可知,第二点观察是圆形物体下落更慢。
根据第四段中“So I tied myself to a barrel to help me float. (于是我把自己绑在一个木桶上以便漂浮)”可知,这是求生工具,此处用名词survival作定语,位于句首,首字母需大写。故填Survival。
⑨考查形容词。根据第五段中“Soon after that, the whirlpool became less wild. (在那之后不久,漩涡变得不那么狂暴了)”可知,漩涡变得不那么猛烈。故填wild。
⑩考查名词。根据第五段中“I was still tied to the barrel and the waves soon carried me to an area where the other fishermen were. In the end, a boat picked me up. (我仍然被绑在桶上,海浪很快就把我带到了其他渔民所在的区域。最后,一艘船把我救了上来)”可知,救作者的是渔船。故填fishing。
【47题详解】
考查细节理解。根据第三段中“It may appear strange, but at that moment, when we were in the edge of the whirlpool, I felt calmer than when we were moving towards it. (这可能听起来很奇怪,但在那一刻,当我们处于漩涡边缘时,我反而比我们向它靠近时更加平静)”和第四段中“I then made three important observations. The first, the larger the bodies were, the more rapidly they fell; the second, between two objects of equal extent, round objects fell down less rapidly; and the third, between two objects of the same size, objects shaped like a tube fell down more slowly. So I tied myself to a barrel to help me float. (于是,我得出了三个重要的观察结论。第一,物体越大,下落的速度就越快;第二,在体积相同的两个物体中,圆形的物体下落得更慢;第三,在大小相同的两个物体中,形状像管子的物体下落得更缓慢。因此,我把我自己绑在一个桶上,以帮助我漂浮)”可知,作者幸存是因为保持冷静并通过观察漩涡中物体的规律成功脱险。故答案为Because he could keep calm and make important observations about how objects behaved in the whirlpool to escape from the danger.
根据第四段中“So I tied myself to a barrel to help me float. I tried to make my brother understand, but he was too frightened and stayed in the heavy boat. Without waiting, I jumped into the sea to try and escape. (于是我把自己绑在一个木桶上以便漂浮。我试图让我的兄弟明白,但他太害怕了,留在了沉重的船上。我没有等待,跳进海里试图逃生)”可知,作者采取的自救措施是将自己绑在木桶上并跳入海中。故答案为He tied himself to a barrel and jumped into the sea without waiting.
The story suggests that while nature is powerful and unpredictable, humans can survive by understanding natural laws and adapting wisely.

Dear Claire,
How’s everything going? I have a safe journey back. I’m writing to express my heartfelt gratitude for your help, support and everything you did for me. Besides, I carefully chose a Chinese painting as a gift for you. Hope you will like it.
The reason why I choose this painting, named shrimps, is that you’re a nature lover, just like the painter Qi Baishi. Qi is a household name in China, known for his unique style and mastery of traditional Chinese painting techniques. His works primarily focus on nature, especially lovely creatures like shrimps. They are full of life and stand vividly on the paper.
Of course, China has more than Qi and his works to offer. You’re warmly welcome to visit China and have a wonderful personal exploration. Looking forward to seeing you here!
Yours sincerely,
Li Hua
