After escaping Long John Silver, I felt a mix of relief and fear. Though I had gotten away, I knew he was still hiding somewhere on the island. While searching for a safer spot, I heard voices nearby—Silver and a sailor named Tom.
“I want you with me! ” Silver shouted. “When we have the treasure, there’s gold for you too!” “Never!” cried Tom. “I’m not a murderer(凶手). You’re guilty(有罪的), all of you! ” Sadly, these were the last words of Tom. It was a gunshot, Silver’s gun.
My heart raced as I ran deeper into the forest, not caring which direction I took. Suddenly, a figure moved between the trees. Was it a wild animal? A pirate? Even Silver himself appeared less terrible to me now.
The shadow crept closer. “Who are you?” I whispered, stepping back. “Ben Gunn,” the man replied softly. His clothes were torn, and his eyes looked haunted. “I’ve been alone here for three years. Who are you? “Jim Hawkins,” I answered.
Ben pointed shakily toward the distant ship offshore. “Is that Captain Flint’s ship?” he asked, his voice trembling.
“No. Flint is dead,” I explained. “But there are some of his old hands abroad.” like Silver.”
“Not a man. . . with one. . . leg?” Ben asked in a tremulous voice, with his pale face and scared eyes.
“You mean Silver? He once worked as a cook on the ship.” I added. “Now, he is also on the island to find Flint’s treasure. He wants to kill anyone in their way and take over the ship!”
Ben nodded slowly. “I was on Flint’s ship when he buried the treasure. Six sailors helped him dig, but only Flint returned alive. No one knows how he made it, not a man except him could make out. It was a battle, a murder and a sudden death—him against six.” His words sent a chill down my spine.
Before I could ask more, loud explosions shook the island. Smoke rose near the shore—the pirates were fighting! Ben grabbed my arm. “We must hide! Silver won’t stop until he gets what he wants.”
Together, we hurried into the forest, unsure if we’d ever escape the island—or Silver’s greed.
15.According to the dialogue between Silver and Tom, we can infer Silver was ________.
A.cruel B.generous C.honest D.silly

Reading and writing Chinese characters is often considered the biggest challenge that language learners face. Indeed, the process which has shaped this character system (体系) is both difficult and long.
Maybe they feel unable to understand character systems at first. Actually, Chinese characters are made up of different parts. If you know the structure of Chinese characters, it will soon be easier for you to read and write. Read the following and continue along your journey to learn Chinese characters.
Unlike the English letters, Chinese characters are used to show meaning rather than sound. In fact, most characters were firstly used as visual descriptions of things like trees, houses or humans. Their earliest forms, known as character radicals (偏旁), are the basis for written Chinese. Including Chinese pinyin, radicals are important for anyone who wants to read or write well.
When two or more radicals are connected, they work together to create a single character. The radical on the left shows the character’s type or meaning, while the radical on the right might show its pronunciation. Most of the written Chinese language is made up of character compounds (复合词), in which several characters are connected to make one word.
An important rule is that characters are written according to a proper stroke order (笔画顺序), which typically moves from left to right, top to bottom and outside to inside.
Although Chinese characters may seem difficult at first, having a basic understanding of them may help a lot. So, review your radicals, know about the most widely used Chinese characters, and watch as your Chinese skills grow quickly!
19.Why are Chinese characters the biggest challenge for language learners?
A.Because China has a very long history.
B.Because people can’t speak Chinese fluently.
C.Because Chinese characters are in different shapes.
D.Because it’s hard to understand the character system.
20.What does the underlined word “they” in Paragraph 2 refer to?
A.Chinese characters. B.Language learners.
C.Character systems. D.Different parts.
21.What can we learn from the passage?
A.Chinese characters often show sound instead of meaning.
B.Usually Chinese characters are written from inside to outside.
C.Knowing some basic rules of Chinese characters helps learners a lot.
D.Radicals play a more important role than Chinese pinyin in reading Chinese characters.
22.Which of the following shows the structure of the passage?(① = Paragraph 1...)
A. B. C. D.
D
Have you ever watched a hologram (全息影像) during a video call? What if you could chat with your friend as real as standing face-to-face? This magic will probably be powered by 6G—the technology that China’s 2025 Two Sessions (两会) marked as a national goal.
Compared to 5G, 6G promises great improvements, which will support much smoother connections between humans, machines, and the environment, creating a world where everything works smartly together.
One major improvement is its unbelievably high speed. With the highest speed reaching up to 100GB/s, it is expected to be 100 times faster than 5G. This speed allows users to download a movie within just one second.
6G’s near-zero latency (延迟) is another step forward. With latency cut to 0.1 milliseconds (毫秒), 6G makes real-time control possible. This means doctors will be able to operate on patients thousands of miles away using real-time holographic tools. Meanwhile, self-driving cars could quickly share real-time traffic condition, cutting accidents by 80%.
Anything more exciting? By connecting towers on the ground with satellites (卫星) close to Earth, “no-service” areas will probably disappear forever. 6G could bring strong signals (信号) to every corner of the planet—deep in the Amazon rainforest, at the top of Mount Qomolangma, or in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, allowing anyone, anywhere, to share moments in real time.
China is taking the lead in 6G research. Tech companies like Huawei and ZTE have made great achievements. China successfully sent the world’s first 6G test satellite into space. The government is also actively supporting plans like building test networks, setting national standards, and helping researchers work with industries. By 2030, the government aims to make 6G available for everyone.
Yet challenges remain. Developing 6G may cost 50 times more than 5G. Also, international cooperation on standard-setting is needed. But with China’s large market and creative power, experts believe 6G is sure to become a reality and benefit humans in countless ways.
In conclusion, 6G isn’t just faster—it’s a key to a smarter world. As Chinese engineers work tirelessly and push forward, one question remains: How will YOU use 6G to shape tomorrow?
23.Which is the improvement of 6G over 5G?
A.Its speed can reach at least 100GB/s.
B.It can achieve zero latency.
C.It may cost 50 times more than 5G technology.
D.It makes a smarter world with better connections.
24.According to the text, which of the following has already been achieved in 6G technology?
A.Finding out the signals at the top of Qomolangma. B.Sending a test satellite into space.
C.Making 6G available for everyone in China. D.Setting international standards.
25.Why does the article end with the underlined question?
A.To warn readers of possible risks of 6G technology.
B.To suggest readers plan for their future as early as possible.
C.To show readers the importance of taking a lead in 6G technology.
D.To encourage readers to think about their role in a 6G-powered world.
26.What is the author’s opinion about 6G ?
A. It is a promising technology with a bright future.
B. It is too expensive to be used.
C. It has many challenges that can not be solved.
D. It should only be used for international company.
