Have you come across or used the phrase “city bu city” (literally meaning “city or not city”) recently? Created by a foreign blogger in a short video of his visit to the Great Wall, this internet buzzword is used 13 (question) whether a place has the fashionable style and atmosphere of a big city.
Currently, millions of foreigners are visiting and exploring China. Their vlogs showing their travels in China 14 (go) viral on social media since the visa-free transit policy was implemented (执行), 15 allows travelers from 54 countries to explore China for up to six days without a visa, provided they have a valid (有效的) international travel document and a connecting ticket for 16 (depart) within 72 or 144 hours.
As a tangible (实际的) move by China, the policy has 17 (significant) boosted tourism. The first three months of this year saw approximately 1.98 million foreigners enjoy visa-free entry into China, 18 increase of 266 percent year-on-year. China has also improved mobile payment accessibility (可及性) and simplified the visa application process, 19 (make) it easier for tourists to visit.
The policy not only makes visiting China 20 (convenient) for foreigners, but also encourages them to engage more closely with the daily lives of ordinary Chinese people, rethink what they see in Western media and dispel (消除) old stereotypes (刻板印象) about China. “So this is 21 we decided to come to this country — we wanted to see exactly what it’s like for 22 (us),” said a man from Ireland.
The Money-Draining Mistakes Travelers Make
Planning a low-cost trip? You don’t have to give up comfort or safety! Travel experts say we can have great trips without spending too much, only if you let go of the luxury (奢华的) travel posts you keep seeing on social media. 1
Chasing dream destinations
Going to your dream place might empty your wallet. Instead, find cheaper places to visit. For example, if Paris is too expensive, try Montreal. 2 Similarly, visiting New York’s Finger Lakes instead of Napa Valley saves money on hotels and wine tastings. Focus on experiences, not just the destination!
3
Travel prices vary by season. Flying during off-peak times, like winter, can save money. For example, visiting Santorini in winter saved one family $500 per person compared to summer prices. Also, avoid flying on weekends—Sundays and Mondays are pricier because of business travelers. Being flexible with dates helps you save!
Assuming vacation rentals are cheaper
4 Actually, prices for vacation rentals like Airbnb or VRBO have risen, sometimes costing more than hotels. Budget hotels and hostels can be better deals. Some hostels even have game rooms for kids. Another option is house-sitting or swapping—you can stay for free by caring for someone’s home.
Staying in the city center
Staying in busy tourist areas like Times Square or Hollywood can cost more. Instead, try neighborhoods outside the city center. In New York, dining in the Bronx costs less than in Manhattan. In Paris, visiting St. Ouen’s antique markets is free and fun. Avoiding the city center saves money and offers authentic experiences!
Remember, travel is about enjoying new places, not matching fancy social media posts. 5 By doing so, your wallet will surely thank you!
A.Traveling with family.
B.Booking specific dates.
C.Travel smarter, not harder.
D.Comparison is the thief of joy.
E.A flight from New York to Paris costs more, than one to Montreal.
F.Avoid the following common mistakes to save money and still enjoy your trip!
G.Travelers often assume that a vacation rental will be more affordable than a hotel.
Everyone dreams about flying. Emmaline did.
Emmaline Cayley was a pioneering scientist. She had declared this when she turned eleven. She was a leader in the field of aeronautics, as she would tell anyone who would listen; at least, she would be one day. The girls she knew said that Emmaline was mad and that she probably still believed in fairies. Emmaline didn’t care what other girls thought. She didn’t care about dolls or new dresses or tea parties; she cared about aeronautics. She was an aviatrix. By her thirteenth birthday, Emmaline had decided that she was going to invent a flying machine. That was more than a year ago in Calcutta, India, where she had been brought up.
Now she was in England, waiting to go to boarding school.
Emmaline sat on a fallen tree, looking out over a valley. It was smooth grassland with no rocks, no trees or tangly bushes and no patches of bog to get sucked into. Emmaline considered it a perfect place for an experiment with flight. What she actually thought was, “This would be a fine place to try out a flying machine — if I had one — and could get somebody (but not me) to sit in it and see what happened when it left the ground.”
The truth is that Emmaline was afraid of flying. She didn’t admit this to herself, however. She told herself that if she were to plummet to her doom, then all her experimental knowledge as a pioneer in aeronautics would die with her. Emmaline thought this would be a tragedy indeed.
Emmaline’s great-great-uncle, Sir George Cayley, had tried inventing flying machines long ago. As a boy he’d made model gliders, studied birds’ wings and conducted strange experiments with wind tunnels. But he built an actual, full-sized flying machine when he was much older. He ordered Emmaline to sit in the machine. Sir George was seventy-six at the time, so nobody felt he was letting anyone down by not flying it himself.
注意:1.续写词数应为150个左右;

“be used to do sth.” 故填to question。
故填have gone。

【答案】1.F 2.D 3.B 4.G 5.C

Also, avoid flying on weekends—Sundays and Mondays are pricier because of business travelers. Being flexible with dates helps you save!(在非高峰时段飞行,比如冬天,可以省钱。
4.本段小标题是“Assuming vacation rentals are cheaper(假设度假租金更便宜)”,空格处应该和假设度假租金更便宜有关,G选项“Travelers often assume that a vacation rental will be more affordable than a hotel.(旅行者通常认为度假租房会比住酒店更实惠。)”

注意:1.续写词数应为150个左右;
The Setup worked as Sir George had hoped.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
A few years later, Emmaline flew her own bigger and safer craft.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
The Setup worked as Sir George had hoped. The flying machine lifted smoothly into the air, carried by the wind. Emmaline gripped the sides tightly, her heart pounding. To her surprise, she felt no fear — only excitement. The machine glided gracefully over the valley, proving Sir George’s design was right. When it landed safely, Emmaline jumped out, her eyes shining. “It works!” she cried. This flight changed everything. She realized that flying wasn’t scary but amazing. Now, she couldn’t wait to build her own machine.
A few years later, Emmaline flew her own bigger and safer craft. Using what she learned, Emmaline designed a stronger flying machine. This time, she sat confidently in the pilot’s seat. The engine roared, and the craft soared into the sky. Below, people cheered as she flew higher than ever before. Emmaline smiled, knowing she had overcome her fear. She had become the aviatrix she always dreamed of being. Her passion for flight would inspire many others to follow their dreams too.
