Although many years have passed, I clearly remember the first day of my high school. As I sat down on my bed, the wooden bed board was broken in half. A wave of embarrassment(尴尬)washed over me as my roommates looked at me in shock. I might have thought about the poor quality of the bed, but there was no doubt that I was too heavy. I always ate too much because of the hunger.

New research finds that not getting enough protein(蛋白质) can make people overeat. Researchers from the University of Sydney carried out a careful study. They closely followed the eating habits of almost 10,000 Australians from different age groups for one year. The results were quite clear: people eat to meet their protein requirements. When the food they eat is low in protein, they end up eating far more,a phenomenon(现象) known as“protein hunger”.

People with“protein hunger” will eat more than people who eat protein-rich food.For example, a person who has a breakfast low in protein, like just a piece of white bread, will likely feel hungry soon. As a result, they eat more snacks that day, and choose fewer healthy foods. But people who eat a protein-rich breakfast such as eggs,Greek yogurt, or meat usually feel full for longer and eat less in all.

Protein is especially important for our bodies. It helps our body fight diseases.To increase more protein, animal-based proteins like fish, chicken, and meat are excellent, but plant-based foods like tofu, beans, peanut butter, and whole grains(谷物)are also great choices.
