Kids who volunteer aren’t just helping their community. They might be helping themselves. A recent study found that volunteering is connected with better health among children and teens.
The study compared kids who took part in community service with those who didn’t. Kids who volunteered were 66% more likely to be considered in good health condition. And kids aged 12 and older who volunteered were 25% less likely to feel nervous or worried than those who didn’t. The findings come from a survey. Parents of some 50,000 kids in the United States aged 6 to 17 took the survey.
However, the findings of the survey can’t show the exact cause and effect. It can only show connections. So it’s not possible to say for sure that volunteering leads to better mental (心理的) and physical health. It could be that people in good health are more likely to have the energy to volunteer. But the survey comes at an important time. The number of young people who experience feelings of sadness or hopelessness has been growing these years.
So there’s a clear need for mental health resources (资源). Giving back to the community may be one such resource. And this study isn’t the only one to reach that conclusion. Research has also found connections between volunteering and health among adults. Serving the community seems to help people feel a sense of purpose. And it makes them feel connected to those around them. So give it a try, for your health.

“You could reschedule for tomorrow,” Dad suggested gently.

In northern Xinjiang, Inner Mongolia and other areas where seasonal water resources are short, desert reservoirs (水库) and underground culverts (涵洞) have been built to keep winter snow water. The water can then be used when needed.
Another measure is the famous South-to-North Water Diversion Project. It transfers water from the Yangtze River to the Yellow River. Then the water in the Yellow River is used to solve the drought problem in Inner Mongolia.

AI and I
Nowadays, AI is playing an increasingly important role in our daily lives. As a middle school student, I often turn to AI for help.
I once used an AI writing tool to improve my English composition. It not only corrected my grammar mistakes but also offered better word choices and sentence structures. The experience was amazing, as it made my writing faster and more efficient.
