Sometimes your biggest weakness can become your biggest strength.
Take, for example, the story of one 10-year-old boy who decided to study judo (柔道) although he had lost his left arm in a car accident.
The boy began lessons with an old Japanese judo master. The boy was doing well, but he couldn’t understand why, after three months of training the master had taught him only one move.
“Sir,” the boy finally said, “shouldn’t I learn more moves?”
“This is the only move you know, but this is the only move you’ll ever need to know,” the master replied.
Not quite understanding, but believing in his teacher, the boy kept training.
Several months later, the judo master took the boy to his first tournament (锦标赛). Surprising himself, the boy easily won his first two matches. The third match proved to be more difficult, but after some time, his opponent became impatient. Finally, the boy used his one move to win the match.
Still amazed by his success, the boy was now in the final match.
This time, his opponent was bigger, stronger, and more experienced. For a while, the boy appeared to be overmatched. Worried that the boy might be in danger, the judge called a time out. He was about to stop the match when the master stopped him.
“No,” the judo master insisted, “let him continue.”
Soon after the match continued, his opponent made a serious mistake: He dropped his guard. Immediately, the boy used his move to pin him. The boy won the match and the tournament.
He was the champion!
On the way home, the boy and his master reviewed every move in each match. Then the boy asked what was really on his mind.
“Sir, how did I win the tournament with only one move?”
“You won for two reasons,” the master answered. “First, you’ve mastered one of the hardest throws in judo. And second, the only known defense (防卫) for that move is for your opponent to catch your left arm.”
The boy’s biggest weakness has become his biggest strength.
5. How did the boy most probably feel while training for only one move?
A. Tired. B. Bored. C. Relaxed.
6. What does the underlined word “opponent” in Paragraph 7 mean?
A. Coach. B. Relative. C. Competitor.
7. What serious mistake did the opponent probably make in the finals?
A. He fell down on the ground.
B. He grew more and more impatient.
C. He tried to catch the boy’s left arm.
8. What is the best title for this passage?
A. The Greatest Master
B. The Biggest Weakness
C. The Simplest Move
【答案】5. B 6. C 7. C 8. B
【解析】
【导语】本文讲述了一个失去左臂的男孩如何通过学习和运用柔道中的一个动作,最终成为冠军的故事。
【5题详解】
细节理解题。根据“‘Sir,’ the boy finally said, ‘shouldn’t I learn more moves?’”和“Not quite understanding,”可知,男孩在训练了三个月后,只学会了一个动作,他对此感到不解,可以推断出,他可能对这个训练方式感到有些无聊。故选B。
【6题详解】
词句猜测题。根据“The third match proved to be more difficult, but after some time, his opponent became impatient. Finally, the boy used his one move to win the match.”可知,第三场比赛更加困难,但最后男孩用他的一招赢得了比赛,因此男孩战胜了对手,划线词意为“对手”,与“competitor”同义。故选C。
【7题详解】
细节理解题。根据“And second, the only known defense (防卫) for that move is for your opponent to catch your left arm.”

On April 15th, 2023, the 15th Guizhou Tea Industry Expo (茶博会), themed “Clean Guizhou Tea, Shared Globally”, was opened in Zunyi. It attracted leaders, experts, buyers, lovers to enjoy the tea.
For thousands of years, the tea is loved by many people around the world for its special taste. Chinese tea culture began over 5,000 years ago. It’s said that the ruler Shen Nong was the first to discover tea as a drink by accident. But during the Three-Kingdom Period, people paid more attention to its medical value. In the Tang Dynasty, tea-tasting became an important part of poets’ life. Our big fan of tea, Bai Juyi, wrote about 60 poems about tea in his lifetime.
In China, traditional tea planting depends on location and natural environment. The area of tea planting is about between 18°~37°N and 94°~122°E. This is why the tea in Zunyi is so delicious and famous.
Tea-tasting customs also influenced the world through the ancient Silk Road. In Western countries, tea first had the greatest influence on Britain in the 17th century, and then the whole of Europe. When it came to the late 18th and 19th centuries, 10% of British people’s income (收入) was spent on tea, making it an important expensive product.
Now, the tea in Guizhou or other areas of China has become cultural treasure of humans.
9. What does the underlined word “It” refer to (指代) in Paragraph 1?
A. Guizhou Tea Industry Expo B. Guizhou C. Zunyi
10. How does the writer tell the history of tea in Paragraph 2?
A. By listing numbers
B. By giving an example
C. By comparing
11. Which is the best place to grow tea plants?

What time is it? The answer you give can be different, because you are in different Earth’s time zones (时区). But how could you tell the time if you aren’t anywhere on Earth?
Scientists are now thinking of creating a lunar (月球的) time zone. They believe it would be better for astronauts to communicate by using Moon Time, as they travel to, from and across the Moon. At the moment, astronauts are using time zones of their own countries. But there could be safety problems caused by the differences in time-telling.
Gravity (引力) influences how quickly or slowly time passes. Since gravity is weaker on the Moon, clocks run a bit faster there. After 24 hours, a lunar clock would be 56 microseconds ahead of a clock on Earth. Another point to consider is that a full day on Earth is about 24 hours between two sunsets. While on the Moon, it is nearly 709 hours, about 29.5 Earth days. This means that lunar nights can be around two weeks long, with only the Earth and the stars in the sky. With all this to think about, scientists need to decide whether it would be better to follow a time zone on Earth, or for the Moon to have its own special zone, which would have much longer days.
Scientists must consider other problems too. For example, who should be responsible for keeping the time zone going? And how can it be made practical for astronauts to use?
There are more countries planning Moon trips in the future. The idea of creating a time zone on the Moon would make these easier. And if a lunar time zone is set up, scientists could create time zones for other planets like Mars.
13. What can a lunar zone do according to the scientists?
A. It can keep the Moon clean.
B. It can keep astronauts healthy.
C. It can make the Moon trips safer.
14. What things can Gravity influence according to the Paragraph 3?
① Clocks run a bit faster on the moon.
② Lunar nights can be around two weeks long.
③ A full day on Earth is about 709 hours between two sunsets.
④ The Moon has its own special zone.
A. ①②④ B. ①②③ C. ②③④
15. If the Moon has its own special time zone, a full day of it can be about ______ on Earth.
A. 56 microseconds B. 29.5 days C. two weeks
16. What is the writer’s purpose of writing the text?
A. To introduce the idea of Moon Time.
B. To share news about landing on Mars.
C. To give information about space travel.
【答案】13. C 14. A 15. B 16. A

【14题详解】
细节理解题。根据“Since gravity is weaker on the Moon, clocks run a bit faster there.”可知,月球引力弱导致时钟走得快一些;根据“lunar nights can be around two weeks long”可知,月球夜晚可能长达两周左右;根据“on the Moon, it is nearly 709 hours, about 29.5 Earth days”可知,③说法错误;根据“With all this to think about, scientists need to decide whether it would be better ... for the Moon to have its own special zone”可知,由于重力的影响,科学家正考虑建立月球时区是否是一项更好的举措。综上,①②④符合题意。故选A。
【15题详解】

According to a research, more than 130 billion pounds of uneaten food goes to waste in Laura’s country each year. That is about 30% of the yearly food supply(供应). It’s very serious, right? It is a sad fact, especially when you consider how many families and homeless people are in hunger.
When Laura saw her school dining hall throw away food that was not eaten at all every day, she came up with an idea. She started a project to help her school dining hall to give away uneaten food to homeless shelters(庇护所) in her community. In the past three years, the same project has spread to other schools and some fast food restaurants throughout the city. The project is called Feed & Find, and has already fed thousands of people in her city.
How does it work? Through an app, Feed & Find matches local homeless shelters with school dining halls and restaurants that have uneaten food to provide. When dining halls or restaurants have uneaten food left, they can use the app to share the information about the food. A truck driver working for the project is then sent to pick it up and take it to a shelter.
Pretty cool, right? It’s not surprising that people in other cities have got in touch with Laura, hoping that she could help develop similar projects for their communities.
Some people, however, have concerns about the safety of the uneaten food. They think such food may not be clean enough. Still, this food sharing project is a clever way to help solve the problem of food waste and it helps those in need.

A. ① B. ② C. ③
12. Which of the following shows the structure of the text?

29.5 days C. two weeks
16 What is the writer’s purpose of writing the text?
A. To introduce the idea of Moon Time.
B. To share news about landing on Mars.
C. To give information about space travel.

四、阅读表达(共5小题;每小题2分,计10分)
