Friends are important to us. Friends help us get through hard times. So we all agree with the saying “A friend in need is a friend indeed.” Friends also make a difference to us a lot. “A true friend reaches for your hand and touche year heart.” This Chinese idea has the same idea as the English saying. Let’s enjoy two friendship poems from Chinese and Western writers.
To Wang LunBy Li BaiI, Li Bai, sit in a boat about to go,
When suddenly on shore your farewell songs overflow.
However deep the Lake of Peach Blossoms may be,
It is not so deep,
Wang Lun!
As your love for me.
A Time to TalkBy Robert FrostWhen a friend calls to me from the road
And slows his horse to a meaning walk,
I don’t stand still and look around
On all the hills I haven’t hoed,
And shout from where I am, what is it?
No, not as there is a time to talk.
I thrust my hoe in the mellow ground,
Blade-end up and five feet tall,
And plod: I go up to the stone wall
For a friendly visit.
Both poems are famous in their cultures, but they tell different stories. Li Bai described the scene (场景) of his friend seeing him off. US poet Robert Frost wrote about a friend’s visit when he was working.
Li made a comparison (比较). His poem shows the friendship between him and his friend is deeper than the deep water. Frost’s poem, on the other hand, tells the readers that we should stop what we are doing to talk with our friends. It tells us that nothing stops spending time with friends. The language is simple but sincere.
1.Why do we say “A friend in need is a friend indeed.”?
2.What story does Li Bai tell us in To Wang Lun?
3.What do you think of the friendship between Li Bai and Wang Lun?
4.What does Robert Fret want to tell us in his poem?
5.Do you think friends are necessary all the time in our life? Why?

Why?
1.Because friends help us get through hard times. 2.Li Bai described the scene of his friend Wang Lun seeing him off. 3.The friendship between Li Bai and Wang Lun is very deep. 4.Robert Frost wants to tell us that we should stop what we are doing to talk with our friends. 5.Yes, friend are necessary all the time in our life. Because they can support us during difficult times and bring joy to our lives.

1.根据“Friends help us get through hard times.” Because friends help us get through hard times.
2.根据“Li Bai described the scene (场景) of his friend seeing him off.” Li Bai tells the story of his friend Wang Lun seeing him off.
3.根据“Li made a comparison (比较). His poem shows the friendship between him and his friend is deeper than the deep water.” The friendship between Li Bai and Wang Lun is very deep.
4.根据“Frost’s poem, on the other hand, tells the readers that we should stop what we are doing to talk with our friends. It tells us that nothing stops spending time with friends.” Robert Frost wants to tell us that we should stop what we are doing to talk with our friends.
