By nodding their heads. B. By raising their eyebrows. C. By shaking their heads. 19. What happened to Tom in India? A. He got confused in class. B. His students couldn't understand him. C. Miscommunication in different cultures. 【答案】17. A 18. B 19. A 20. C 【原文】 W: Well, living in a foreign culture can be exciting, but it can also be confusing. Here I’d tell you a few of my friends’ experiences. They’re a group of Americans who taught English in other countries. On the first day in Micronesia, Lisa went into a store for a cold drink and asked, “Do you have cold drinks?” The woman there didn’t say anything. Lisa repeated the question. Still the woman said nothing. Lisa left the store. She later learned that the woman had answered her. She had raised her eyebrows, which in Micronesia means “yes”. Jan had an experience in Bulgaria. She had gone to a restaurant that was known for its special cabbage. She asked the waiter, “Do you have the cabbage today?” He nodded his head. Jan eagerly waited, but the cabbage never came. In that country, a nod means “no”. Tom had a similar problem in India. After explaining something in class, he asked his students if they understood. They responded with many different nods and shakes of the head. He thought some people had not understood, so he explained again. When he asked again if they understood, they did the same thing. He soon found out that his students did understand. In India, people nod and shake their heads in different ways depending on where they come from. You have to know where a person is from to understand if they mean “yes” or “no”. 第二部分 阅读(共两节,满分 50 分) 第1节 (共 15 小题;每小题 2.5 分,满分 37.5 分) 阅读下列短文,从每题所给的 A、B、C、D 四个选项中选出最佳选项。 A Contrary to popular belief, winter is actually a good time to travel. I managed to open it with an old screwdriver I found nearby. Inside, there was a bundle of letters tied together with a faded ribbon, and a delicate, dried-up rose. The letters were written in a beautiful, flowing script that was almost illegible in places due to the ink fading over time. As I carefully unfolded the first one, which dated back to 1943, I was transported to a world of love, sacrifice, and war. The letters were a correspondence between my grandmother, then a young nurse named Clara, and a soldier named Benjamin. Benjamin was stationed overseas, and his letters were filled with vivid descriptions of the cruel realities of war, yet also with tender declarations of his love for Clara. Clara’s letters, in turn, were filled with tales of her daily life, her longing for his return, and her support. One letter, in particular, caught my attention. In it, Benjamin hinted at a secret mission, one that could potentially change the course of the war. He wrote that if anything were to happen to him, there was a “treasure” he wanted Clara to find. However, he never got the chance to illustrate further, and the subsequent letters were filled with worry and uncertainty as the war raged on. As I read deeper into their story, I became determined to uncover the truth behind Benjamin’s mysterious “treasure”. I spent days searching for historical records, and even reached out to local historians and war veterans(老兵). Finally, I found a clue in an old newspaper article about a group of soldiers who had carried out a daring rescue operation during the war. Following the trail, I discovered that Benjamin had been part of a team that had rescued a group of scientists who were working on a top-secret project. The “treasure” he spoke of, I realized, was not a material object, but the knowledge and hope that those scientists’ work represented. This unexpected journey into my grandmother’s past not only gave me a newfound respect for her and Benjamin but also taught me the profound impact that love, sacrifice, and a single, mysterious letter could have on generations to come. 24. What did the author find in the wooden box? A. A stack of old newspapers. B. A collection of antique coins. C. Letters, a dried rose, and clues of a mystery. D. A diary and some family photos. 25. Why were the letters difficult to read? A. They were written in a foreign language. B. The ink had faded over time. C. They were intentionally destroyed. D. The handwriting was extremely messy. 26. What was Benjamin’s “treasure” according to the author’s discovery? A. The knowledge and hope represented by the rescued scientists’ work. B. A small, locked wooden box with a bundle of letters. C. A daring rescue operation he had carried out during the war. D. A secret document about the war that Benjamin had searched for. 27. What can we infer from the text about the author’s feelings towards the discovery? A. Indifferent, as it was just an old story. B. Annoyed at the time-consuming research. C. Frustrated because the treasure was not a material thing. D. Respectful and deeply touched by the story behind the letters. 【答案】24. C 25. B 26. A 27. D 【导语】这是一篇记叙文。文章主要讲述了作者在阁楼上发现了一个盒子,通过阅读盒子里的信,作者发现了一个被埋藏的“宝藏”。 【24题详解】 细节理解题。根据第一段“Inside, there was a bundle of letters tied together with a faded ribbon, and a delicate, dried-up rose.(盒子里有一捆信,用一条褪了色的缎带系在一起,还有一朵娇嫩的干玫瑰)”以及第四段“In it, Benjamin hinted at a secret mission, one that could potentially change the course of the war.(在信中,本杰明暗示了一个秘密任务,一个可能改变战争进程的任务)”可知,作者在木箱里发现了信,一朵干玫瑰,还有一个谜团的线索。故选C。 【25题详解】 细节理解题。根据第二段“The letters were written in a beautiful, flowing script that was almost illegible in places due to the ink fading over time.(这些信是用优美流畅的字迹写的,由于墨水随着时间的流逝而褪色,有些地方几乎难以辨认)”可知,这些字母很难读是因为随着时间的推移,墨水褪色了。故选B。 【26题详解】 细节理解题。根据倒数第二段“The “treasure” he spoke of, I realized, was not a material object, but the knowledge and hope that those scientists’ work represented.(我意识到,他所说的“宝藏”不是实物,而是那些科学家的工作所代表的知识和希望)”可知,本杰明所说的“宝藏”是获救科学家的工作所代表的知识和希望。故选A。 【27题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段“This unexpected journey into my grandmother’s past not only gave me a newfound respect for her and Benjamin but also taught me the profound impact that love, sacrifice, and a single, mysterious letter could have on generations to come.(这次意外之旅不仅让我对祖母和本杰明产生了新的尊重,也让我明白了爱、牺牲和一封神秘的信可能对后代产生的深远影响)”可知,作者对这一发现的感受是尊重并被信件背后的故事深深打动。故选D。 C A recent study published in the British Journal of Social Psychology suggests that people seen as kind and helpful are also perceived(感知) as more physically attractive. This effect highlights how kind actions may shape perceptions of physical beauty. In her new research, Natalia Kononov, a Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Pennsylvania, concentrated on prosocial behavior — acts of kindness, cooperation, and helpfulness — and sought to understand whether this quality has a unique effect on perceptions of physical beauty. The research involved ten studies with over 4,000 participants. The team designed various contexts, where participants were asked to observe real-life prosocial acts, read descriptions of kind actions, or imagine helpful behavior. Participants were shown images of people alongside descriptions of either prosocial or neutral behaviors, and then rated their physical attractiveness on a standardized scale. Some studies removed images to test if the effects behavior extend beyond appearance. The researchers discovered a consistent link between prosocial actions and higher ratings of physical attractiveness. Participants described as performing prosocial acts were rated more attractive than those without. “An interesting aspect of our findings is that kindness and generosity made both men and women appear more attractive. This gender-universal appeal highlights just how broadly kindness can shape perceptions of beauty,” Kononov said. The effect appeared strongest when kindness was part of the person’s usual behavior, rather than a one-off act. Plus, prosocial influence on attractiveness ratings was stronger than that of other positive traits (品质), like humor or intelligence. This suggests that kindness and helpfulness play a unique role in shaping physical perceptions beyond a general “halo effect”, where positive qualities broadly enhance other evaluations. Despite these findings, some limitations exist. “One limitation is that our study centered largely on participants’ initial perceptions rather than on how these impressions may evolve over time.” Kononov said, “Additionally, the sample was primarily from United States-based participants, which may limit how the findings apply to other cultural contexts. So further research would be valuable to understand how these dynamics might shift in diverse settings.” 28. What does Natalia Kononov’s study focus on? A. How kindness influences beauty evaluation. B. How physical beauty determines perceptions. C. Whether prosocial behavior shapes attractiveness. D. Whether helpfulness improves social behavior. 29. How was the study carried out? A. By analyzing prosocial behavior. B. By comparing attractiveness ratings. C. By evaluating imagination abilities. D. By reading the image descriptions. 30. What can we learn from the findings of the research? A. Constant kindness boosts physical appeal. B. Physical appearance dominates behavior. C. Gender affects attractiveness evaluations. D. All positive qualities enhance attractiveness. 31. What can be inferred from Kononov? A. Changeable contexts are necessary. B. Long-term dynamics remain unclear. C. Cultural diversity was prioritized in sampling. D. Initial impressions are irrelevant to relationship. 【答案】28. C 29. B 30. A 31. 根据第二段“In her new research, Natalia Kononov, a Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Pennsylvania, concentrated on prosocial behavior — acts of kindness, cooperation, and helpfulness — and sought to understand whether this quality has a unique effect on perceptions of physical beauty.(宾夕法尼亚大学博士后研究员Natalia Kononov的新研究关注的是亲社会行为——善良、合作和乐于助人的行为——并试图了解这种品质是否对身体美感的感知有独特的影响)”可知,Natalia Kononov的研究重点是亲社会行为是否塑造吸引力。故选C。 【29题详解】 细节理解题。根据第三段“Participants were shown images of people alongside descriptions of either prosocial or neutral behaviors, and then rated their physical attractiveness on a standardized scale.(参与者被展示了人们的图像,旁边是亲社会行为或中性行为的描述,然后他们按照标准化量表对他们的身体吸引力进行评分)”可知,这项研究是通过比较吸引力评分来进行的。故选B。 【30题详解】 细节理解题。根据第五段“The effect appeared strongest when kindness was part of the person’s usual behavior, rather than a one-off act.(当善良成为一个人通常行为的一部分,而不是一次性的行为时,这种影响最为强烈)”可知,持续的善良会提升身体吸引力。故选A。 【31题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段“One limitation is that our study centered largely on participants’ initial perceptions rather than on how these impressions may evolve over time.(我们的研究主要关注的是参与者的初步印象,而不是这些印象如何随时间演变,这是一个局限性)”可推知,Kononov认为研究主要集中在参与者的初始感知上,对于这些印象随时间如何演变还不清楚。故选B。 D There’s a popular saying that if only one voice is allowed to exist; then that one voice must be a lie. This quote couldn’t be more relevant now, as many businesses and platforms are using shady practices to silence negative feedback and ensure only those voices benefiting them remain. This practice is so-called “artificial review boosting”, and has been influencing objectivity in reviews ever since. Its origin dates back to the 20th century when businesses would hand out free samples to obtain a better reputation. However, the practice rises to a new extreme with the emergence of e-commerce platforms. Many online businesses do whatever it takes to ensure high-rating scores, either through giving bonuses and rewards to customers who leave a good review or through bothering and threatening those who leave a negative one. This behavior is not only morally corrupt but also illegal, and it is absurd that many consumers feel they can’t leave negative feedback out of fear that businesses will cause trouble. It’s apparent that this problem is getting out of hand, but how can we fix it? Regulator intervention would certainly help. There should be a tougher crackdown on illegal practices, and e-commerce platforms should be required to protect the privacy of their users. Nevertheless, this is just a small part of the changes needed, as the rating system as a whole needs restructuring. That’s because this system rewards dishonest sellers rather than those selling quality products, and e-commerce platforms, with their profits unaffected, turn a blind eye to its faults. Against all odds, honest feedback has persisted and people who voice their true opinions still exist, but they are becoming rarer. There’s an old saying that if you put a frog in boiling water, it will leap out, but if you cook the frog slowly in warm water, it won’t notice being cooked alive. We consumers are just like frogs — it’s easy for us to fight together against terrible acts robbing our freedom, but we often ignore when the same freedom is gradually taken from us. There will be no grand coup de grace (致命一击) that ends honest feedback. Companies will just let it fade away slowly but we mustn’t allow that to happen because consumers play a more important role in keeping honest feedback. 32. What is the main issue discussed in the text? A. The illegal practices of consumers. B. The history of e-commerce platforms. C. The benefits of free samples for businesses. D. The decline of honest feedback due to artificial review boosting. 33. How do businesses ensure high-rating scores according to the text? A. By improving product quality. B. By cooperating with regulators. C. By restructuring the rating system. D. By rewarding positive reviews and threatening negative reviewers. 34. What does the frog analogy imply about consumers? A. They are as adaptable as frogs in hot water. B. They are easily frightened by sudden threats. C. They fail to notice the gradual loss of their freedom. D. They should fight against terrible acts immediately. 35. What does the author suggest about the current rating system? A. It effectively promotes honest sellers. B. It prioritizes dishonest sellers over honest ones. C. It has been improved by e-commerce platforms. D. It is unaffected by consumer feedback and product quality. 【答案】32. D 33. D 34. C 35. B 【导语】本文是一篇议论文。文章讨论了电商平台通过“人工评价助推”手段操控评论,导致真实反馈逐渐消失的问题,并呼吁消费者和监管机构采取行动。 【32题详解】 主旨大意题。根据第一段中“There’s a popular saying that if only one voice is allowed to exist; then that one voice must be a lie. This quote couldn’t be more relevant now, as many businesses and platforms are using shady practices to silence negative feedback and ensure only those voices benefiting them remain.(有句流行的话说,如果只允许一种声音存在,那么这种声音一定是谎言。这句话现在再合适不过了,因为许多企业和平台都在使用不正当手段来压制负面反馈,只保留那些对他们有利的声音)”和第二段中“This behavior is not only morally corrupt but also illegal, and it is absurd that many consumers feel they can’t leave negative feedback out of fear that businesses will cause trouble.(这种行为不仅在道德上腐败,而且是非法的,荒谬的是许多消费者因为害怕企业会找麻烦而不敢留下负面反馈)”以及下文对“人工评价助推”现象的阐述可知,文章主要讨论的是由于“人工评价助推”导致真实反馈的减少。故选D项。 【33题详解】 细节理解题。根据第二段中“Many online businesses do whatever it takes to ensure high rating scores, either through giving bonuses and rewards to customers who leave a good review or through bothering and threatening those who leave a negative one.(许多在线企业会不惜一切代价确保高评分,要么给留下好评的顾客发放奖金和奖励,要么骚扰和威胁留下差评的顾客)”可知,企业通过奖励好评和威胁差评者来确保高评分。故选D项。 【34题详解】 推理判断题。根据第四段中“There’s an old saying that if you put a frog in boiling water, it will leap out, but if you cook the frog slowly in warm water, it won’t notice being cooked alive. We consumers are just like frogs — it’s easy for us to fight together against terrible acts robbing our freedom, but we often ignore when the same freedom is gradually taken from us.(有句老话说,如果你把一只青蛙放进沸水里,它会跳出来,但如果你把青蛙放在温水中慢慢煮,它不会注意到自己正在被活活煮死。我们消费者就像青蛙一样——我们很容易团结起来对抗剥夺我们自由的可怕行为,但当同样的自由被逐渐剥夺时,我们往往会忽视)”可知,青蛙的类比暗示了和温水煮青蛙一样,消费者没有注意到他们的自由在逐渐丧失。故选C项。 【35题详解】 细节理解题。根据第三段中“That’s because this system rewards dishonest sellers rather than those selling quality products, and e commerce platforms, with their profits unaffected, turn a blind eye to its faults.(这是因为这个系统奖励的是不诚实的卖家,而不是那些销售优质产品的卖家,而且电子商务平台在利润不受影响的情况下,对其缺陷视而不见)”可知,作者认为当前的评分系统优先考虑不诚实的卖家而非诚实的卖家。故选B项。 第二节 (共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 The importance of self-improvement often goes unnoticed. Fascinated by the mountain's impressive beauty from the tender age of five, Maya had long harbored a dream of standing on its summit. Every single day, she would raise her head up, staring at the snow-capped peak. Her eyes would twinkle with anticipation as her imagination painted vivid pictures of the breathtaking view from above. One gloriously sunny morning, Maya finally gathered the courage to transform her long-held dream into reality. Her heart pounding with excitement, she cautiously packed a backpack. Inside, she placed a state-of-the-art phone, a detailed topographical map, a precision compass, enough energy-rich food to last for days, and multiple layers of thick, warm clothing. With tears welling up in her eyes, she tearfully said goodbye to her worried family. At first, the climb was a breeze. The hillside was gentle, and the trail was clearly marked. However, as Maya went up higher, the climb became increasingly challenging. The path turned extremely steep, and loose rocks skittered(滚落) dangerously beneath her boots. The bitter wind howled like a wild beast, slicing through her layers and stinging(刺痛) her cheeks. Halfway up, Maya crossed paths with a group of experienced climbers going downhill. “Turn back right now!” one of them shouted, his voice was filled with urgency. “The climb is turning dangerous, and a fierce snowstorm is approaching. It’s not worth risking your life!” Maya hesitated. Exhaustion seeped(渗透) into her bones, and self-doubt clouded her mind. She trembled uncontrollably. Just then, a large snowflake landed on her glove. Maya’s eyes landed on the silver bracelet(手镯) around her wrist, a gift from her father. As she stared at it, memories of his words of encouragement flooded her mind. She felt tired, cold and unsure if she could continue. 注意:1. 续写词数应为150个左右; 2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 When she climbed higher, the air grew thinner, and every step became a struggle. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ With a heart full of pride, Maya knew that there was no challenge too great for her to overcome. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 When she climbed higher, the air grew thinner, and every step became a struggle. Maya’s breath came in short gasps as the icy wind numbed her face. Her legs burned with exhaustion, but the silver bracelet on her wrist — her father’s final gift — seemed to radiate warmth. Remembering his words, “The view is worth the climb,” she gritted her teeth and pushed forward. Step by agonizing step, she ascended through the swirling snow until suddenly the slope leveled. She had reached the summit! With a heart full of pride, Maya knew that there was no challenge too great for her to overcome. Before her stretched an awe-inspiring vista, the rising sun setting the snowfields ablaze with golden light, her village just a speck in the distant valley. Tears froze on her cheeks as she realized this was never just about conquering a mountain. Every painful step had been a victory over her own doubts. The winds that had tried to break her now carried her triumphant cry across the peaks. In this moment, she understood true strength comes from persevering when every instinct says to quit. 词汇激活: 行为类 ①坚持前进:pushed forward/pressed on/forged ahead ②登顶:reached the summit/attained the peak/conquered the top/achieved the summit ③胜利的呼喊:carried her triumphant cry/bore her victorious shout/echoed her jubilant voice 情绪类 ①充满自豪:a heart full of pride/ brimming with triumph/swelling with accomplishment ②泪水凝结脸颊:tears froze on her cheeks/tears glistened on her face/tears crystallized in the cold 【点睛】[高分句型1] Tears froze on her cheeks as she realized this was never just about conquering a mountain.(as引导时间状语从句) [高分句型2] The winds that had tried to break her now carried her triumphant cry across the peaks.(关系代词that引导定语从句) 6 / 23 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$听力考试正式开始。Can you imagine what traveling will be like in the future? B Among the chaos of packing up my late grandmother’s attic, I found a small, locked wooden box hidden beneath a stack of yellowed newspapers. C A recent study published in the British Journal of Social Psychology suggests that people seen as kind and helpful are also perceived(感知) as more physically attractive. D There’s a popular saying that if only one voice is allowed to exist; then that one voice must be a lie. 第二节 (共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 The importance of self-improvement often goes unnoticed. B Among the chaos of packing up my late grandmother’s attic, I found a small, locked wooden box hidden beneath a stack of yellowed newspapers. C A recent study published in the British Journal of Social Psychology suggests that people seen as kind and helpful are also perceived(感知) as more physically attractive. D There’s a popular saying that if only one voice is allowed to exist; then that one voice must be a lie. 第二节 (共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 The importance of self-improvement often goes unnoticed. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ ( 11 / 11 ) 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$
