M: Well, you have to be fit to play the role, but getting your body in shape isn’t the hardest part. It’s getting the hang of all that leaping, falling, turning and rolling. That’s actually the trickiest.
W: So how did you get into acting?
M: I’d never considered it. I majored in literature at university but was never involved in any drama clubs. After graduating, I was employed by a comedy producer and it just went from there.
W: You grew up in Canada. How was that?
M: Great. For my brothers, it was more about sports at weekends. I was the only one of my brothers that was interested in the cinema, but I wasn’t the sort of fan with posters all over the wall.
W: What would you have done if you hadn’t become an actor?
M: My dad is a police officer, my mother and all my grandparents are doctors. Even so, neither of those jobs appeals to me. My older brother has an import export company and I guess I would have a job with him.
W: Thank you, Martin.

【答案】18. A 19. B 20. C
【解析】
【原文】M: Hello everyone, welcome! I’ve only started this channel this week, so I’m sort of nervous in front of the camera. Anyway, I want to share with you everything I know about health. Today I want to talk to you about how to feel younger. I am in my Mid-forties, yet I feel as energetic as I did when I was eighteen. So what is my secret? It’s not really a secret, it’s a combination of exercise, healthy eating and rest. Sleep is the most important aspect of all of this. I imagine many of you get around six hours of sleep a night. You might stay up late watching TV, playing video games or just browsing your phone. What I’d suggest is setting an alarm an hour before you go to bed. That alarm is to remind you to stop looking at electronic screens. They produce blue light, which can prevent you from going to sleep. I would also suggest not eating or drinking anything two hours before bedtime. If you are restless, a glass of milk can help to settle you, but no tea or coffee as they will keep you awake. Lastly, start your day on a positive note with half an hour of exercise. It may not seem like a lot, but over time it will dramatically improve your health. Now if you have any questions, just type them on the screen.

For 101-year-old Helen Macura, her childhood dream came true a few years ago when she finally got her own dog, which she called “Friendly”.
But Friendly is no ordinary dog. This golden retriever-like, battery-powered pet is one of the 31,500 robotic pets already given away by the New York State Office for Aging (NYSOFA). The pup barks, turns his head and raises his paw. Most importantly, he does not run out of the door onto the busy street.
On June 3, NYSOFA announced plans to give out an extra 4,725 robotic pets to seniors as part of its ongoing efforts to fight senior loneliness.
Ted Fischer, who founded a company that creates products for people of all ages to enjoy, first came up with the idea of robotic pets for seniors while working at a children’s toy company. He found that many people were buying toys not for children, but for aging loved ones.
The company now offers robotic cats, dogs and birds. In some New York counties, demand has grown so much that waiting lists have been created for seniors keen to adopt one of these pets.
In 2023, US Surgeon General Dr Vivek Murthy issued a report addressing the “epidemic of loneliness and isolation”. According to the report, “The mortality (死亡率) impact of being socially disconnected is similar to that caused by smoking up to15 cigarettes a day,” and loneliness “is associated with a greater risk of cardiovascular (心血管的) disease, dementia (痴呆), stroke, depression, anxiety and early death.”
Fischer acknowledges that robotic pets might not provide the same level of social connection for every senior. However, for some, they can be life-changing.
“I recommend that every home should have one,” said Macura, referring to her robotic dog. Some nights, when she cannot sleep, she sits in the living room and talks to Friendly. “I’m talking to somebody. I do have companionship. There’s somebody here listening to me,” she said. “He’s warm and he’s comfort.”
24. What inspired Ted Fischer to create robotic pets for seniors?
A. Feedback from his customers.
B. The growing demand for robotic pets.
C. A family struggling with loneliness.
D. His discovery while working at a children’s toy company.
25. What can we learn from the report issued by Dr Vivek Murthy in 2023?
A. The impact of loneliness on health.
B. The dangers of smoking for seniors.
C. The benefits of robotic pets for seniors.
D. Common health problems among seniors.
26. How does Helen Macura view her robotic dog Friendly?
A. As a tool to help her sleep better.
B. As a way of companionship.
C. As a source to stay connected to the world.
D. As a device for practicing conversations.
27. What is the best title for the article?
A. NYSOFA’s robotic pet program
B. New focus on seniors’ well-being
C Fighting seniors’ loneliness with technology
D. Helping seniors build social connections
【答案】24. D 25. A 26. B 27. C

C
If you ever feel that the world is against you, you are not alone. We all have a tendency to assume that when anything goes wrong, the fault lies in some great intrigue (诡计) against us. If a co-worker fails the deadline, he must be trying to beat you to a promotion. When Wi-Fi in a coffee shop is not working, the staff must be lying about having it just to attract you in.
But the fact is that the simple explanations, which we tend to jump to, are barely true. Maybe your co-worker thought today was Tuesday, not Wednesday. Maybe the Wi-Fi just went wrong. This is where Hanlon’s razor works — a useful mental model that one should never consider what can be fully explained by neglect (疏忽) as doing harm on purpose.
Applying Hanlon’s razor, a helpful tool for rapid decision-making and comprehension, in our daily lives makes us less judgmental, and improve our reasoning skills. Meanwhile, Hanlon’s razor allows us to have more empathy (同理心) and teaches us not to assume the worst intention in the actions of others, the value of which is most pronounced in relationships, business matters, and personal happiness.
We all lead complex lives where things are constantly going wrong. When this occurs, a common response is to blame the nearest person and assume they have bad intention. When someone messes up around us, we forget how many times we, too, have done the same. Instead, we regard the perpetrator as a source of intense annoyance.
To assume intention in such a situation is likely to worsen the problem. None of us can ever know what someone else wants. Inability or neglect is far more likely to be the genuine cause than the desire to hurt. When a situation annoys us, it can be valuable to consider if those emotions are necessary. Often, the best way to react to other people causing us problems is by seeking to communicate with them, not to dismiss them. In this way, we can avoid repeats of the same situation.
28. What can we learn about Hanlon’s Razor?
A. It is a way to solve colleagues’ problems. B. It avoids taking neglect as intentional harm.
C. It is a device for restoring Wi-Fi connection. D. It identifies who is responsible for mistakes.
29. What do we usually do when things fail?
A. We turn to trustworthy persons. B. We change current situations.
C. We deal with negative emotions. D. We misjudge others’ intention.
30. What does the underlined “the perpetrator” in paragraph 4 refer to?
A. The mind reader. B. The error maker.
C. The problem solver. D. The event planner.
31. What is suggested when others cause problems?
A. Losing temper to them. B. Putting them on the spot.
C. Exchanging ideas with them. D. Turning a blind eye to them.
【答案】28 B 29. D 30. B 31. C

【29题详解】
细节理解题。根据第四段中“We all lead complex lives where things are constantly going wrong. When this occurs, a common response is to blame the nearest person and assume they have bad intention.(我们都过着复杂的生活,在这种生活中,事情总是不断地出问题。当这种情况发生时,一种常见的反应就是责怪离自己最近的人,并认为他们怀有不良意图)”可知,当事情失败时,我们通常会误判他人的意图。故选D。
【30题详解】

How are a vegan in Brooklyn, a journalist in Britain, a farmer in the Bolivian (玻利维亚的) highlands and a worker in Lima connected? One word: quinoa (藜麦). The popularity of this Andean “superfood” highlights the interconnections that exist in a global economy.
Quinoa is grown by farmers in the Andean highlands — Bolivia and Peru are top producers. The grain-like seed is high in proteins, vitamins and minerals while free of cholesterol (胆固醇). For these reasons, quinoa has become extremely popular among health-conscious consumers. It sounds pretty great until we get to the unintended negative consequences of quinoa’s wild popularity.
The issues highlighted by the quinoa-haters focus on two areas. The first argument goes that quinoa is now so expensive — its price has skyrocketed thanks to increasing demand from foreigners — that locals can no longer afford the healthy staple (主食) and are turning to imported junk foods. However, a Bolivian farmer told The Guardian that quinoa growers have actually “westernized their diets because they have more profits and more income”. Ten years ago they had only an Andean diet in front of them. They had no choice. But now they do and they want rice, noodles, candies, Coke, and they want everything!
The second argument is that the increased demand is causing a rapid expansion of quinoa production, which is damaging the environment. Recently, the Bolivian government warned quinoa farmers for not properly rotating (轮作) crops. Poor crop management is causing desertification in some areas. These are the real downsides of the quinoa boom, though it is worth noting that foods we eat more commonly, like pork and beef, have a much greater impact on the environment.
Quinoa is an example of how our everyday habits and purchases can come to have an effect on the people and communities that exist well beyond our borders. The Brooklyn vegan who is buying box after box of quinoa is improving their diet and increasing the incomes of Andean farmers. But they are also affecting the environment and may be making it more difficult for a worker in Lima to afford the food he grew up eating. Additionally, if a British journalist writes a misleading article about how the consumption of quinoa is driving poverty in Bolivia, it can set off a chain of harmful effects involving all of the actors mentioned above.
This is a fact of life in today’s globalized world. We are all connected, whether by quinoa, the beef we eat, the fuel we put in our cars or the phones we buy. It’s our responsibility to make the right choices.
32. According to the article, which of the statements about quinoa is true?
A. It has become a staple food of Britons.
B. It has rapidly grown in popularity due to its many health benefits.
C. It has played a great role in solving the global problem of food shortages.
D. It has become so expensive that farmers in the Andean highlands no longer eat it.
33. Why are quinoa-haters against the widespread consumption of the grain-like seed?
① Because its health benefits are questionable.
② Because it’s driving up unemployment in Lima.
③ Because its production is damaging the environment.
④ Because it has become too expensive for locals.
A. ①② B. ①③ C. ②③ D. ③④
34. What can be inferred about the production of quinoa from the article?
A. It brings more harm than good to Britons.
B. It has led to complete dietary changes among vegans in Brooklyn.
C. It reminds people of the importance of crop management.
D It has more advantages than disadvantages for Bolivian farmers.
35. What was the author’s intention in writing this article?
A. To analyze how the global economy works.
B. To encourage more people to include quinoa in their diet.
C. To prove that economic globalization is a double-edged sword.
D. To call on people to be responsible consumers in this globalized world.
【答案】32. B 33. D 34. D 35. D

Ten years ago they had only an Andean diet in front of them. They had no choice. But now they do and they want rice, noodles, candies, Coke, and they want everything!

This is a funny but enlightening cartoon, in which a mother is sending her son to school. However, the youngster responds, “Why am I going to school if my phone already knows everything?”
As a senior high student, I think it is essential to acquire not only knowledge, but also cooperation and communication skills at school. Also, it is the process rather than the outcome that counts. Therefore, we shouldn’t misunderstand the meaning of going to school.

After a busy week, Emily and her parents decided to go on a mountain picnic. They longed to fully experience nature’s beauty and enjoy quality family time. Little did they know, this outing would be filled with unexpected twists and turns (波折).
Arriving at the mountain’s base, they discovered a house, in front of which Mike and his father had just finished loading a boat onto Mike’s truck. Emily approached them and asked for the best picnic spot in the area. Knowing the mountain well, Mike suggested a location about two hours’ walk away. “It’s worth the effort,” he assured them.
Parking their car next to Mike’s truck and carrying their picnic supplies, Emily and her parents set off on the winding road. Tall green trees on one side, a flowing stream on the other, the road eventually led them to a breathtaking clearing dotted with colorful wildflowers. They enjoyed their delicious sandwiches, fruits, and snacks, engaging in pleasant conversations.
Just as they finished their meal and settled down to relax, dark clouds unexpectedly rolled in. It looked like rain. Panicked, they hurriedly set up the tent they had brought. No sooner had they entered than raindrops began pouring on the roof. Heavy rain enveloped the surroundings, making it impossible to see anything. They had no choice but to patiently wait it out.
After what felt like a century, the rain ceased. Emily and her parents wasted no time packing up their belongings, ready to get downhill. However, their excitement turned to worry when they discovered that the small stream they had previously crossed had turned into a wide and impassable river. With no cellphone signal, they were trapped without a means of seeking help. To make matters worse, darkness was approaching.

Nearing the picnic spot, Mike heard the shout for help and, in the next moment, saw Emily and her parents waving their hands desperately on the other side of the river. Mike immediately stopped, and with his father’s help, moved the boat from his truck into the water.
Emily and her parents boarded the boat. Safely crossing the river , they returned to the base of the mountain in Mike’s truck. Emily and her parents were not only grateful for their safe return, but also for the kindness and assistance they received from Mike and his father. They expressed their heartfelt thanks to Mike and his father for their swift response and invaluable assistance, tears welling up in their eyes.
C As a source to stay connected to the world.
D. As a device for practicing conversations.
27. What is the best title for the article?
A. NYSOFA’s robotic pet program
B. New focus on seniors’ well-being
C. Fighting seniors’ loneliness with technology
D. Helping seniors build social connections

D
How are a vegan in Brooklyn, a journalist in Britain, a farmer in the Bolivian (玻利维亚的) highlands and a worker in Lima connected? One word: quinoa (藜麦). The popularity of this Andean “superfood” highlights the interconnections that exist in a global economy.
Quinoa is grown by farmers in the Andean highlands — Bolivia and Peru are top producers. The grain-like seed is high in proteins vitamins and minerals while free of cholesterol (胆固醇).
B It has rapidly grown in popularity due to its many health benefits.
D. It has more advantages than disadvantages for Bolivian farmers.
35. What was the author’s intention in writing this article?
A. To analyze how the global economy works.
B. To encourage more people to include quinoa in their diet.
C. To prove that economic globalization is a double-edged sword.
D. To call on people to be responsible consumers in this globalized world.

I've only started this channel this week, so i'm sort of nervous in front of the camera. Anyway, I want to share with you everything I know about health today. I want to talk to you about how to feel Younger. hi. I'm in my mid forties, yet I feel as energetic as I did when I was eighteen. So what is my secret? It's not really a secret. It's a combination of exercise, healthy eating and rest. Sleep is the most important aspect of all of this. I imagine many of you get around six hours of sleep at night. You might stay up late watching T, V, playing video games or just browsing your phone. What I suggest is setting an alarm an hour before you go to bed. That alarm is to remind you to stop looking at electronic screens. They produce blue light, which can prevent you from going to sleep. I would also suggest not eating or drinking anything two hours before a bedtime. If you are restless, a glass of milk can help to settle you, but no tea or coffee as they will keep you awake. Lastly, start your day on a positive note. With half an hour of exercise, IT may not seem like a lot, but over time, IT will dramatically improve your health. Now, if you have any questions, just type them on the screen. Hello, everyone, welcome. I've only started this channel this week, so i'm sure of nervous in front of the camera.
