In seventh grade,Rosalie Bangeter hated me for no reason. She threatened or laughed at me whether I was
walking to catch the bus or sitting in the cafeteria.I would have done anything to avoid her:I tried being late for
my fourth class and walking slowly to my locker in the hope that Rosalie would have already gone to class, but
that never worked.I always ended up passing her without cye contact.
My family lived in a small town of about three thousand people, and it seemed as if my dad knew every one
of them. What was even more surprising was that everyone seemed to know him.One day,I asked my mom how
this was possible. She said,"Well,Jenn, your dad never lets anyone stay a stranger. He talks to everyone he sees,
and then gives them a big smile."
I was tired of being a coward girl.I wanted to be like my dad:smile to everyone.I decided to try it
out.I would take my experiment to Rosalie Bangeter.I don't think I heard a single word my math teacher said that
day in the fourth class because I was too busy thinking about what I was about to do.Finally, the bell rang.I
gathered my books and headed to my locker.I saw Rosalie approaching, looking as mean as ever. For the first
time,I made eye contact with her,and then managed to smile through my nervousness.Rosalie looked shocked,
then stared at me angrily. The next day,I tried again, less nervously.Rosalie wasn't surprised but still stared
coldly.
This continued for days until she even gave me a half-smile.And then came that memorable day when I
nodded and said hi to her.I couldn't believe it!She said hi back!At the end of the year,Rosalie asked me to sign
her yearbook.

We experience the full range of emotions during the final scenes of the movie trilogy,Lord of the Rings:
Retum of the King.Watching Frodo being surrounded by the fire we hold our breath;we overjoy when Gandalf
saves him.So what's going on?There must be a special kind of movie magic that makes us care about what we
know isn't real.As it happens, there is a special kind of magic, but it's not in the movie. It's in the minds of people
who watch it.Dr.Brian Schwartz, professor of the University of Chicago, believes this magic is especially potent
when we watch movies on the big screen.
"What happens first,"he argues,"is that you give up control. The movie is in control."In normal life our
brains are like tractor beams(牵引光束),busy taking in any information that seems important or interesting. This
is called the attentional system. But as the characters come alive on screen,we stop sensing our body.
Psychologists call this kind of mental state"flow":when our attention is completely absorbed in one activity and
there isn't any juice left in our attentional system to take in any more information. We are effortlessly swept along
in the currents of the ride. This is why we love the movies:it's like going on a roller coaster (for the
brain.
However, there's something else magic at work here too:in a movie theater,as we give up control, our sense
of reality changes.Deep down we know that what we're seeing is make-believe,but because we're not going to
act upon it,because it doesn't have a direct physical bearing upon us,we don't test if it is real. It's like that part of
our brain goes on a temporary vacation.Something else is happening in the brain to make this possible too.The
mind has different abilities, and each one has a distinct place in the brain. Our knowledge that we're only
watching a movie happens in the front part of our brain. But emotions come from the limbic system(边缘系统),
in the back of the brain.Even though our front brain knows that a movie isn't real, the back brain never gets the
message
It's a sad fact that the intensity of the emotions that movies produce in us may be decreasing. At home,or on
our smart phones, movies are wonderfully convenient. But watching in this way limits their magic because we're
in control;we have the power to stop the film or fast forward bits we don't like."If you're not giving up control to
the movie,"Schwartz says,"you're getting a thinned-out movie experience."More control might be more
convenient, but it won't mean more magic.Surely,we deserve better than that, and Frodo does too.

Contrary to"popular opinion",the scientific pursuit for knowledge is not a predictable process. To make new
discoveries, researchers need the freedom to be creative, fail, and learn by chance. This aspect is similar to art.
This is why Wageningen scientists look to artists for inspiration and exchange ideas about how to increase creative
freedom.
"Science and art are two different ways to make something understandable. They both provide a perspective
on reality,"says Biochemistry Professor Dolf Weijers."From the outside, the research process looks very formal
and the artistic process looks somewhat messy. But the scientific process can also unfold in an unpredictable
way”
"Scientists can leam a lot from artists,"says Weijers."Association and creativity are central to art. Those
aspects require more attention in science as the creative process is the key of science."
"As a scientist, you use different methods, but it is equally about how you visualize your understandings of
reality and the connections between them. This is sometimes just as visual as art,"says Weijers. One example is a
recent special project in which Weijers and his colleague Joris Sprakel, professor of Physical Chemistry and Soft
Matter, measured the forces that act on plant cells.A molecular()sensor was used to visualize the different
forces. They showed the results in colorful images, each representing a different force.

What science and art also have in common is that they are topics of discussion in society. There are people
who say that they do not value ar and people who mistrust science.Weijers says."It often creates the wrong
impression because only the results of scientific studies are presented, and people do not have any insight into the
process leading to discovery. As a scientist, you are doubted if you say something that is different a few years later.
Then you are viewed as unreliable. But what is often poorly understood is that there are no final results in science.
What we scientists can achieve in the coming period is to provide more chances for people to focus on the process.
Personally.I think that the connection with ar can help to lead the focus on the process than the result."
32.What does Dolf Weijers think of science process?
A.It is always serious.
B.It can't be accidental
C.It doesn't allow failures
D.It can be unexpected.
33.What docs the underlincd sentence "This is sometimes just as visual as art"in paragraph 4 mean?
A.Visualizing is a must for science
B.Science can be visualized like art
C.Science shouid be understood by visualizing.
D.Visualizing is as easy in science as in art.
34.Why do common people mistrust science in Dolf Weijers'opinion?
A.Scientists usually draw unreliable conclusions
B.Scientists don't use visualizing to show the results.
C.The scientific process is unknown to them.
D.The scientific results are complex for the public.
35.Which can be a suitable title for the text?
A.Differences Between Science and Art
B.Similarities Between Science and Art
C.Scientists and Artists Contribute to the World
D.Science and Art Are Tools to Understand the World

If you use"123456","password"or"qwerty"as a password, you're probably aware that you're at the risk of

analysed the data across 50 countries.
The findings show password choices are often attached to cultural references.37In the UK,
"liverpool"was the third most popular password, with 224.160 hits, while the name of Chilean football club
"colocolo"was used by 15,748 people in Chile, making it the fifth most common choice.
_38 Women tend to use more positive and affectionate (words and phrases such as
"sunshine"or"I loveyou",while men often use sports-related passwords.In some countries,men use more swear
words than women.
Choosing long and complex passwords remains the main authentication mechanism(身份验证机制for
computers and network-based products and scrvices. But we know people continue to choose weak passwords and
often don't manage them securely.39
To overcome the security issues linked with password-based authentication systems, researchers and
developers are now concentrating on creating authentication systems which don't depend on passwords at all.
40 For example,two-factor authentication (2FA)and multi-factor authentication(MFA)methods are
good ways to secure your accounts. These methods combine a password with biometric information(for example,
a face scan or fingerprint)or something distinguishable, like a captcha ()All in all,a secure password is
the first line of defense against cyber attacks.Don't give up security for convenience.
A.They need the support of computer experts
B.The findings show that passwords tell our emotions.
C.People in some countries take inspiration from a football team
D.The report also reflected different preferences between genders.
E.These are among the most popular passwords around the world.
