Since its release, the Chinese animated film Nezha: Demon Child Conquers the Sea—also called Nezha 2—has attracted attention both in China and internationally. It has beat Inside Out 2 to become the most successful animated film of all time around the world as of February 18.
Inspired by Chinese mythology (神话) and the classic novel Investiture of the Gods, the movie follows Ne Zha and his friend Ao Bing—both with supernatural origins—as they team up to stop a dangerous plan that threatens their families and the survival of the Dragon Tribe.
With its fresh story and exciting action scenes, the film has impressed many audiences overseas. Ne Zha is a figure from ancient Chinese mythology. This movie has made many adaptations (改编) to the original story, making it more modern and universal. Even with language barriers (障碍), the story is still easy to understand,” a viewer said on the Western review site Rotten Tomatoes.
US influencer “Tony in China” compared the film’s fight scenes to those in Dragon Ball, saying its action scenes even go beyond those in Kung Fu Panda.
However, because of cultural differences, many foreign viewers have found certain aspects of Nezha 2 confusing, particularly those tied to deeper elements of Chinese mythology.
Even with these confusion, some foreign Internet users have begun exploring Chinese mythology, searching for the traditional stories behind the Nezha films.
29. What achievement has Nezha 2 made globally as of February 18?
A. It won an award for its exciting action scenes.
B. It became the most popular film around the world.
C. It earned the most money of animated films in history.
D. It was translated into the most languages of animated films.
30. What does the word “universal” mean in the viewer’s comment on Rotten Tomatoes?
A. Affecting all people, places, or things.
B. Easy for viewers from the world to enjoy.
C. Existing or being everywhere at the same time.
D. The same in a lot of places and for a lot of people.
31. Why did some foreign viewers find Nezha 2 confusing?
A. Because they didn’t know about Chinese mythology.
B. Because the action scenes were too fast and hard to follow.
C. Because the story was too old-fashioned and not modern enough.
D. Because the language barriers were too strong for them to understand.

This semester, at a middle school in Jiangsu Province, there have been big changes both for students and teachers. These changes happened because AI tools were used. By using AI to create personalized exercises and exams, teachers at the school can adjust their teaching methods to suit each student’s needs and abilities.
After students finish studying a unit, teachers use AI to pick different questions from an online database (数据库) that includes various extracurricular (课外的) materials. This helps create a customized set of exercises for the unit, helping students strengthen their knowledge. These exercises are then printed on paper. “With this special learning material created by AI, we don’t need to carry all the heavy exercise books any more.” said the 14-year-old He Liyan.
Students answer the exercise questions on answer sheets. Teachers collect these sheets, scan them into an AI system for grading. The AI creates numbers and graphics (图形) that help teachers understand each student’s performance as well as how the whole class is doing overall. “Our teacher no longer explains all the questions one by one. Instead, she looks at the common mistakes and provides one-on-one help for every one of us,” said the 15-year-old Wang Dinghan.
What’s more, students can get special error log (错题日志) or homework created by AI depending on their performance in previous exams. “The homework is all about what I got wrong before, so I don’t need to practice over and over again what I already understand,” said He.
“I used to have a notebook copying my mistakes so that I can study them,” said Yu Zifu, 15. “But now, AI has done this for me!”
32. How does AI help teachers at school?
A. By doing teachers’ jobs. B. By making books lighter.
C. By reducing teachers’ work stress. D. By using personalized exercises and exams.
33. The underlined word “customized” in Paragraph 2 most likely means ________.
A. printed on paper. B. made for each student.
C. chosen from a database. D. full of extracurricular materials.
34. What can we infer about the teachers’ new method after using AI?
A. They explain all the questions one after another.
B. They require students to write down their errors.
C. They pay more attention to students’ common mistakes.
D. They spend more time checking homework than before.
35. What is the main idea of this passage?
A. AI finds wrong answers faster. B. AI can help students study better.
C. Teachers use smart computers now. D. Students get less homework every day.

Chinese government quickly took action against companies breaking consumer rights after the 2025 3·15 Consumer Rights Gala showed illegal activities (违法行为) like food safety problems and AI-driven harassment (骚扰) calls. This yearly event, organized by China Media Group for over 30 years, has become a strong warning to businesses that cheat people.
After the Gala, the State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR) carried out surprise checks overnight in nine provinces. They promised they will punish those who broke the rules seriously. For example, a factory in Guangdong was fined ¥2 million for selling poor-quality baby products. At the same time, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology started looking into companies making illegal automated calls. Phone companies were ordered to shut down 15,000 phone lines that were not allowed by law, and websites took down over 200 tools for sending too many calls.
This year’s Gala showed serious problems in different industries:
—Some baby brands sold old products as new putting babies in danger.
—Factories made single-use underwear without cleaning them properly
—Shrimps were filled with harmful chemicals to make them 20% heavier, fooling buyers.
—A secret market sold tools for sending millions of unwanted calls.
—Stores sold unsafe electrical wires that could cause fires.
Food safety was a key focus. In Yancheng, Jiangsu province, 12 seafood companies were caught using harmful chemicals in shrimps. To solve this, SAMR will start a new national food safety reporting system in May 2025. This system will let people report problems through a mobile app, making the process more open and efficient.
China has worked harder to protect consumers in recent years. Last year, SAMR received 39.24 million online problems reported by people and helped them get back ¥5.16 billion. These efforts include stricter laws, public education programs, and working with technology companies to stop illegal activities.
“The 3·15 Gala doesn’t just show problems—it pushes companies and regulators to take action,” said Wang Peng, a researcher at the Beijing Academy of Social Sciences. This event reminds everyone that protecting consumer rights is a shared responsibility.
36. What is the main purpose of the 3·15 Gala according to the first paragraph?
A. To help companies sell more products. B. To teach consumers how to save money.
C. To punish companies that break the rules. D. To show illegal business activities to the public.
37. What did SAMR do right after the Gala?
A. They made new consumer laws.
B. They returned money to consumers.
C. They started a new food safety system.
D. They checked businesses without telling them first.
38. What is the main benefit of the new national food safety reporting system?
A. It works through the Internet using phones and computers.
B. It allows people to report food safety problems more easily.
C. It reduces how many food safety reports people need to make.
D. It makes punishments for rule-breaking companies much stronger.
39. What do the large numbers about complaints and returned money tell us?
A. Most stores now sell higher quality products.
B Less people are having problems with products.
C. Consumer protection work is getting good results.
D. The way we report problems needs to be improved a lot.
40. What is the most important lesson we can learn from this article?
A. Protecting shoppers needs everyone to work together.
B. TV shows like 3·15 Gala can solve shopping problems.
C. Businesses will improve if they get punished for mistakes.
D. The government should do everything to protect consumers.

Huang Xuhua, chief designer of China’s first-generation nuclear submarines (核潜艇), passed away on February 6 in Wuhan, Hubei province, at the age of 99.
Born in March 1926 to a family of doctors in Guangdong province, Huang was the third child of his parents.
After spending his boyhood in wartime, he joined Shanghai Jiao Tong University to study shipbuilding. During the years at the university, the young man was trained strictly. He joined the Communist Party of China in April 1949, right before his graduation. After receiving his bachelor’s diploma, Huang started his lifelong career in China’s shipbuilding industry.
At the beginning of the design work Huang and his teammates found that China lacked the basic conditions to develop such a hardware technology at that time. None of the researchers had any knowledge in that field, and since other countries were extremely protective of such technologies, they hardly had any technical materials.
Huang and his teammates started by looking for newspapers and magazines for information. “It was extremely difficult to find a little piece of information,” the researcher recalled in 2020. “The information was too hard to tell whether it was true or false.”
The team members didn’t have any computers or digital calculators, so they used abacuses and rulers to solve problems. To ensure the results, there were three groups to do the math at the same time.
After years of efforts, China finally built its first nuclear-powered submarine—the first Type 091—in 1970, becoming the fifth nation to have such hardware.
Huang’s name remained secret until 1987 when a magazine in Shanghai was allowed to publish a report on him, which only disclosed his family name of Huang.
Even in his last years, the designer used to visit his office at the Nuclear Submarine Institute in Wuhan every weekday morning to review materials, and would also give advice to young researchers.
The first product of Huang and his teammates—a Type 091 nuclear-powered attack submarine—is now on display at the PLA Naval Museum in Qingdao, Shandong province, after more than 40 years of service. Due to his outstanding contributions, Huang was given the Medal of the Republic, China’s highest honor, in 2019.

A. printed on paper. B. made for each student.
C. chosen from a database. D. full of extracurricular materials.

—Some baby brands sold old products as new, putting babies in danger.

A. They made new consumer laws.
B. They returned money to consumers.

At the beginning of the design work, Huang and his teammates found that China lacked the basic conditions to develop such a hardware technology at that time.
