This made Xiaomi the fourth company in the world—after Apple, Qualcomm(高通, and MediaTek(联发科—to learn 3nm chip design. It’s China’s first success in 3nm chip design. It shows Chinese companies can make new things in the chip-making field. What does "3nm" mean? It talks about the size of tiny parts on a chip called transistors(晶体管. A nanometer (nm) is very, very small—one billionth of a meter. To understand, a human hair is 16,000 times thicker than a 3nm part. Making these chips needs putting billions of tiny transistors on a small silicon piece. Smaller transistors make chips work faster and use less power. But making them needs high-tech tools like EUV lithography machines, which China can’t make yet. Xiaomi began working on chips in 2014. In 2017, its first chip, the 28nm Surge S1, had some problems. Xiaomi’s CEO, Lei Jun, said, "To be a top company, we must control key technologies." Xiaomi wants to not depend too much on foreign companies like Qualcomm. So it could better manage its supply chain and create products that people need. Over ten years, Xiaomi spent 13.5 billion yuan and built a team of 2,500 engineers to achieve this goal. This success helps China need fewer foreign chips and makes its supply chain safer. Experts say that although China still has challenges in chip making, Xiaomi’s design success makes it a strong global competitor and encourages more research in China. As Lei Jun said, "Every step in technology brings us closer to a better future." Xiaomi’s story shows that hard work and patience are key to innovation. 1.Why does Xiaomi want to make its own chips? The battle happened in Kashmir from May 7 to 10. The J-10CE jets shot down several Indian planes, including Rafale fighters("阵风"战斗机), without getting damaged. This shows how good China’s military technology is. The J-10CE is a strong, all-weather fighter jet with one engine. It has a powerful radar that can find enemy planes 240 kilometers away—60 kilometers farther than the Rafale’s radar. It also uses the PL-15E missile, which can hit targets 145 kilometers away, even in bad weather. During the fight, the J-10CE worked well with Chinese early warning planes. These planes helped the J-10CE pilots see enemy jets quickly and react fast. Even though the Rafale is a strong fighter, the J-10CE performed better. The J-10CE costs 40million each, much cheaper than the Rafale, which costs 40 million each, much cheaper than the Rafale, which costs 240 million. It is also easier to take care of and costs less to maintain. This makes the J-10CE a great choice for countries that want strong fighter jets without spending too much money. Military experts say this battle shows three key things for modern air fights: good radar, long-distance missiles, and teamwork. The J-10CE’s success proves that China is making better fighter jets and becoming more important in the world’s military market. 1.How did the early warning planes help the J-10CE? A. They flew into battle and shot down enemy jets. B. They gave real-time information, helping pilots find enemies faster. C. They repaired damaged J-10CE jets during the fight. D. They carried extra missiles for the J-10CE. 2.Why might the Rafale fighter jet have lost to the J-10CE? A. Because the Rafale’s radar could not detect the J-10CE from far away. B. Because the Rafale is much cheaper than the J-10CE. C. Because the J-10CE cannot work in bad weather. D. Because India’s pilots were not well-trained. 3.Why is the J-10CE a great choice for some countries? A. Because it has the longest missile range in the world B. Because it is cheap, easy to maintain, and performs well. C. Because it can only be used in good weather conditions D. This is the first time a new microbial species has been identified(确认 in space station conditions. Let’s learn about how this discovery happened and why it’s so important. In May 2023, astronauts on the Shenzhou-15 mission used special tools to collect surface samples from the space station. They kept these samples cold and brought them back to Earth for study. After two years of careful research—including gene sequencing (基因测序and metabolic tests(代谢测试—scientists confirmed it was a completely new species Niallia tiangongensis is a Gram-positive bacterium with a thick cell wall that forms spores. It can survive well in extreme environments. Its DNA repair genes help it stand up to space radiation, surviving much better than similar bacteria on Earth. It can fix damage caused by radiation. The microbe also makes a protective chemical called bacillithiol (杆菌硫醇,抗氧化化学物质(BSH), an antioxidant that fights harmful substances and keeps its cells healthy when under stress. Plus, it can form strong biofilms(生物膜, which let it stick to surfaces and protect itself from radiation(辐射 even in microgravity. This discovery helps many areas of science. Studying space-adapted microbes like this one can help us keep space stations safe for long missions and protect astronauts’ health. Its radiation-resistant genes might inspire new ways to treat cancer. And its ability to handle stress could help us develop crops that survive droughts on Earth. Beyond that, seeing how this microbe lives in harsh space conditions shows us how life can adapt, making us think about whether life could exist on other planets. Wu Yaduo, a 17-year-old high school student from Chengdu, Sichuan province, might have the answer. Using her iPad, Wu turns classic stories like A Dream of Red Mansions (《红楼梦》), Water Margin(《水浒传》) and The Peony Pavilion (《牡丹亭》), and the lives of poets (诗人), such as Li Bai from Tang Dynasty, into videos. These videos have become popular online. To Wu, these stories are timeless because they look into human feelings and social themes that everybody can understand. However, she believes it is important to make these classics more interesting for modern readers, especially younger ones. Wu started by looking at literature pieces from textbooks used in schools after noticing that students were often not interested in them simply because they had to learn them for school.  “Classics shouldn’t be placed on a pedestal; instead, we should bring them closer, making them a part of our everyday lives,” Wu said. In her videos, Wu mixes text and sound. For example, her version (版本) of A Dream of Red Mansions was inspired (启发) by a sad song from a Chinese indie band (独立乐队). The line “one flower, one leaf, one spring tree” inspired Wu to first draw a lively Daguanyuan (大观园) , or Grand View Garden, which is a key setting in A Dream of Red Mansions, followed by a sad scene after the family’s fall. “I  showed both images together to create a feeling of pain and surprise,” she explained. Wu’s hand-drawn animations (动画), influenced by innovative films and art, are often filled with bright colors and emotions. She has received a lot of support from those around her. However, Wu still finds it impossible to perfectly translate the vivid images in her mind into art. “Every time I draw, I feel annoyed that I can’t just copy and paste (粘贴) what’s in my head onto the iPad. It would be so much better if I could,” she said. “That’s why I’m always looking forward to my next piece.” 1.What does Wu Yaduo turn into videos? A. Modern novels and pop songs B. Classic stories and poets' lives C. School textbooks and exam notes D. Indie band performances and animations 2.Why did Wu start making these videos? A. To become famous online B. To get good grades in school exams C. To study the history of Tang Dynasty poets D. To make classic literature more interesting for young people 3. What may the underlined word mean in Chinese? A. 神坛 B. 书架 C. 障碍 D. 舞台 4.What problem does Wu face when making animations? A. She can’t find good music for her videos B. She can’t perfectly show her ideas in art C. She doesn’t have enough time to draw D. She lacks support from her family and friends 5.What is the best title for the article? A. A. Why classics are important in school. B. With the help of artificial intelligence (AI) tools, Fu can create videos in 36 different languages within minutes, ready to post on Facebook and attract international customers. This is possible through China goods, a digital platform developed by Yiwu’s government. The platform uses AI to help businesses improve online marketing and connect with global trade. Fu has been selling socks for 20 years. Now she uses DeepSeek, an AI tool, to write video scripts (脚本). Then, she uses a video app that matches her lip (嘴唇) movements and background music with different languages. This advanced technology has helped her attract buyers from the Middle East, South America and Africa. “My most-viewed video on Facebook has received 54,000 views,” she said excitedly. In addition to DeepSeek, the platform offers various AI applications (应用软件) that have greatly improved video creation and image design, according to Lou Qinfeng, technical director of a Yiwu’s big data company. Sun Lingyan from Chinagoods trains sellers like Fu to use the platform’s app. She believes that mastering AI is key for future business, saying that using AI tools should feel as natural as using a calculator (计算器). AI training has helped many sellers get new skills and turn them into real orders. For example, toy seller Sun Lijuan reduced her product catalog (目录) design costs to zero. An AI-generated (AI生成的) video she posted on overseas social media received more than 100,000 views, leading to a Polish buyer ordering 20,000 dolls. “Even without any professional design or filming experience, it is now possible to create attracting content quickly, greatly helping business growth,” Sun said. Digital assistant and AI-powered sales tools are now widely used in Yiwu’s market trade. Recent data shows that about 30,000 sellers use AI tools for business. Because it is mainly sold to countries in Asia 4.Which of the following statements is right? A. The PL-15E missile can hit targets 240 kilometers away. B. The PL-15E missile works well even in bad weather. C. The Rafale fighter jet is easier to maintain than the J-10CE. D. The J-10CE needs two pilots to operate. 5.What is the main purpose of the passage? A. To compare the J-10CE and Rafale fighter jets in terms of price B. To explain the importance of early warning planes in modern air fights C. To introduce the development history of China's military technology D. To describe the J-10CE's outstanding performance and its advantages 阅读理解C Labubu is a character made by a Chinese company called Pop Mart. It has sharp teeth, soft ears, and a playful look. AI applications developed in Yiwu have been used over 1 billion times. “As the ‘world’s supermarket,’ Yiwu aims to keep up with cutting-edge technology, embrace (拥抱) AI, and improve efficiency (效率) for sellers,” Lou said. 1.What helps Fu Jiangyan create videos in 36 languages quickly?
