This book will put you on these cases, and into the minds of some of the worst criminals.(想象一下,阅读一位女性的经历、思想与突破——她不仅参与调查了过去一个世纪最令人不安的连环犯罪案件,还参与创建了联邦调查局的行为分析部门。 根据文章The Churchill Sisters部分中的“What’s it like to grow up as the daughter of Winston Churchill, the man who led the country to victory against Nazi Germany in WWII?(作为在二战中带领国家战胜纳粹德国的温斯顿・丘吉尔的女儿,她们的成长经历是怎样的?)”;The Bright Ages部分中的“For many of us, the Middle Ages is a time of darkness.(对许多人来说,中世纪是一个黑暗的时代。)”;A Killer by Design部分中的“Imagine reading the experiences, thoughts, and breakthroughs of a woman not only working on the most disturbing serial crimes of the past century, but also involved in the creation of the FBI’s Behavioral Analysis Unit. This book will put you on these cases, and into the minds of some of the worst criminals.(想象一下,阅读一位女性的经历、思想与突破——她不仅参与调查了过去一个世纪最令人不安的连环犯罪案件,还参与创建了联邦调查局的行为分析部门。 ;Sapiens部分中的“In this second book in the best-selling graphic novel series, we start off 12, 000 years ago and move forward from there.(在这部畅销图画小说系列的第二本书中,我们从1.2万年前开始,逐步展开后续的历史。)” D。 B Music filled the silence of the practice room. Our teacher made the dance look so easy when she was demonstrating it herself. Her movements flowed naturally with the rhythm of the music. Her eyes filled with confidence while she looked at herself in the mirror. Her dancing appealed to me. Finishing the demonstration, she told us, “It’s your time to shine!” Over the course of four months, we practiced week after week as we prepared for our final performance: a real performance with an actual audience. That thought of standing onstage in front of a cheering crowd gave me instant stage fright. In the beginning, we’d even grab drinks together after rehearsal (排练) and evaluate our own mistakes from the sessions. However, after a couple of weeks, our movements weren’t the same as usual. Some of my classmates no longer cared about the performance; others no longer felt motivated to improve their dancing abilities. So why did we continue practising if we didn’t even plan to finish it? Matching the teacher’s dancing was an impossible goal. But I still used the course as a chance to start improving, even if it meant that I started at the very bottom. I didn’t pressure myself to perfect the choreography (编舞). I let that pressure move through my body instead, until I no longer saw myself in the mirror memorizing steps but actually dancing to the music. On the day of the performance, recalling the way my teacher danced attracted me that first day, I entered the stage. I couldn’t see the audience through the bright spotlights. It was all dark around us, which made me less nervous. I only focused on my body, my mind, and the music. My mind was empty; I lost myself in the dance. I succeeded. And I knew at that moment, I engaged others, too. 4. What do we know about the author’s teacher? A. She proved dance learning was easy. B. She enjoyed looking into the mirror. C. She showed a positive self-identity. D. She was demanding with students. 5. What occurred to some classmates after weeks of rehearsal? A. They stopped seeking feedback actively. B. They lost enthusiasm for practising. C. They focused on other things instead. D. They avoided social interactions post-practice. 6. How did the author practise dancing? A. By observing every small step. B. By arranging the movements. C. By prolonging practice hours. D. By co-existing with pressure. 7. What is the suitable title for the text? A. Dancing my way to Success. B. A Rewarding Dance Rehearsal. C. Forgetting Fright in Dance. D. The Power of Dance Practice. C 5. B 6. D 7. 根据第一段“Our teacher made the dance look so easy when she was demonstrating it herself. Her movements flowed naturally with the rhythm of the music. Her eyes filled with confidence while she looked at herself in the mirror.(当我们的老师亲自示范时,她让舞蹈看起来很轻松。 根据第三段“However, after a couple of weeks, our movements weren’t the same as usual. Some of my classmates no longer cared about the performance; others no longer felt motivated to improve their dancing abilities.(然而,几周后,我们的动作与往常不同。 根据第四段“I didn’t pressure myself to perfect the choreography (编舞). I let that pressure move through my body instead, until I no longer saw myself in the mirror memorizing steps but actually dancing to the music.(我没有强迫自己去完善编舞。 A项Dancing my way to Success(以舞为径,踏向成功)最适合为本文标题。故选A。 C Researchers in Australia and the US are starting a multi-million dollar project to bring the Tasmanian tiger, nicknamed thylacine(袋狼), back from extinction. The last known one died in 1939. The team say it can be recreated using stem cells(干细胞)and gene-editing(基因编辑)technology, and the first thylacine could be reintroduced to the wild in 10 years’ time. They plan to take stem cells from a living species with similar DNA, and then use gene-editing technology to ”bring back“ the extinct species - or an extremely close one of it. It would be a great achievement for the researchers attempting it, and require a number of scientific breakthroughs. The population of Tasmanian tigers dropped when humans arrived in Australia tens of thousands of years ago, and again when dingoes - a species of wild dog - appeared.Eventually, the species only lived free on the island of Tasmania, and was finally hunted to extinction. If scientists were to succeed, it would mark the first “de-extinction“ event in history, but many outside experts doubt it, and believe that the project is more about media attention for the scientists and less about doing serious science. The idea of bringing back the extinct has been around for more than 20 years. In 1999, the Australian Museum started to pursue a project to clone the Tasmanian tiger, and various attempts have been made ever since to get or rebuild DNA from samples. The US firm made headlines last year with its plans to use similar gene editing technology to bring the woolly mammoth back to life - a technological achievement yet to be made. 8. Which of the following might be the major reason for thylacine’s extinction? A. Habitat loss. B. Climate change. C Human activities. D. Wild dog protection. 9. What do many outside experts think of bringing back extinct thylacine? A. It will make history. B. It is particularly difficult. C. It deserves greater attention. D. It is more of a piece of eye-catching news. 10. What does the last paragraph mainly talk about? A. Future for bringing back the extinct. B. Benefits of bringing back the extinct. C. Previous efforts to bring back the extinct. D. Technology needed to bring back the extinct. 11. In which column of a magazine can we read this passage? A. Science and Technology. B. History and Traditions. C. Nature and Environment. D. Culture and Society. 【答案】8. C 9. D 10. C 11. A 【解析】 【导语】本文是一篇说明文。文章主要介绍了澳大利亚和美国的研究人员正在开展一个项目:使用干细胞和基因编辑技术来重建袋狼。 【8题详解】 细节理解题。根据第四段的“The population of Tasmanian tigers dropped when humans arrived in Australia tens of thousands of years ago, and again when dingoes - a species of wild dog - appeared. Eventually, the species only lived free on the island of Tasmania, and was finally hunted to extinction. (当数万年前人类来到澳大利亚时,塔斯马尼亚虎的数量下降了,当澳洲野狗(一种野狗)出现时,塔斯马尼亚虎的数量又下降了。最终,这个物种只在塔斯马尼亚岛上自由生活,并最终被猎杀灭绝。)”可知,塔斯马尼亚虎,也就是袋狼的灭绝的主要原因可能是人类活动。故选C。 【9题详解】 细节理解题。根据倒是第二段“If scientists were to succeed, it would mark the first “de-extinction“ event in history, but many outside experts doubt it, and believe that the project is more about media attention for the scientists and less about doing serious science.( 如果科学家们成功了,这将标志着历史上第一次“灭绝动物复活”事件,但许多外部专家对此表示怀疑,并认为该项目更多地是媒体对科学家的关注,而不是做严肃的科学研究。)”可知,许多外部科学家认为恢复灭绝的袋狼更像是一条引人注目的新闻,故选D。 【10题详解】 主旨大意题。根据最后一段的“The idea of bringing back the extinct has been around for more than 20 years. In 1999, the Australian Museum started to pursue a project to clone the Tasmanian tiger, and various attempts have been made ever since to get or rebuild DNA from samples. The US firm made headlines last year with its plans to use similar gene editing technology to bring the woolly mammoth back to life - a technological achievement yet to be made.(复活灭绝物种的想法已经存在了20多年。 根据第一段的“Researchers in Australia and the US are starting a multi-million dollar project to bring the Tasmanian tiger, nicknamed thylacine(袋狼), back from extinction. The last known one died in 1939.( 澳大利亚和美国的研究人员正在启动一项耗资数百万美元的项目,以拯救外号为袋狼的塔斯马尼亚虎,使其免于灭绝。最后一个已知的人死于1939年。)”以及下文内容可知,文章主要讲述介绍了澳大利亚和美国的研究人员正在开展一个项目:使用干细胞和基因编辑技术来重建袋狼。因此推动最有可能来自科学技术栏目,故选A。 D Does using an eco-friendly paper straw (吸管) give you a good feeling because you’re doing something for the environment? “Straws made from plant-based materials, such as paper and bamboo, are often advertised as being more sustainable and eco-friendly than those made from plastic,” says researcher Dr. Thimo Groffen, an environmental scientist at the University of Antwerp. “However, the presence of PFAS in these straws means that could be discredited.” PFAS chemicals, infamous for their longevity and potential harm, can adversely affect humans, wildlife and the environment. They biodegrade (生物降解) very slowly over time and can persist over thousands of years in the environment, a property that has led to them being known as “forever chemicals”. They are linked to various health issues, including thyroid disease, liver damage, kidney cancer and so on. Furthermore, these chemicals are used in everyday items, such as outdoor clothing and non-stick pans, to make them water and heat-resistant. For a more in-depth analysis, the research team purchased 39 different brands of drinking straws made from five materials — paper, bamboo, glass, stainless steel and plastic, and then conducted two rounds of testing for PFAS. They found that most brands (69%) contained PFAS, with 18 different PFAS detected in total. In paper straws, PFAS was detected in 90% of the brands tested. PFAS was also detected in 80% of brands of bamboo straws, 75% of plastic straw brands and 40% of glass straw brands. They were not detected in any of the five types of steel straws tested. “The presence of PFAS in paper and bamboo straws shows they are not necessarily biodegradable,” says Dr. Groffen. “We did not detect any PFAS in stainless steel straws, so I would advise consumers to use this type of straw — or just avoid using straws.” The PFAS concentrations (浓度) were low and, considering that most people only use straws occasionally, pose a limited risk to human health. However, PFAS can remain in the body for many years and concentrations can build up over time. “Small amounts of PFAS, while not harmful in themselves, can add to the chemical load already present in the body,” Dr. Groffen concludes. 12. What does the underlined word “discredited” in paragraph 1 probably mean? A. Plain. B. Relevant. C. Doubtful. D. Forceful. 13. Why are PFAS chemicals known as “forever chemicals”? A. They are resistant to water and heat. B. They take a long time to break down. C. They exist widely in daily necessities. D. They may cause various common diseases. 14. What can we know from the test for PFAS? A. PFAS was found in all five types of straws. B. Paper straws were most likely to contain PFAS. C. Stainless steel straws are harmless to human health. D. Glass straws were the most environmentally friendly straws. 15. What does the author intend to do in the last paragraph? A. To stress the potential risks of PFAS. B. To show approaches to using straws safely. C. To present the advantages of stainless steel straws. D. To appeal to consumers to avoid using straws in daily life. 【答案】12. C 13. B 14. B 15. A 【解析】 【导语】这是一篇说明文。主要介绍了安特卫普大学的环境科学家、研究员蒂莫·格罗芬博士表示,用纸和竹子等植物材料制成的吸管,通常被宣传为比塑料制成的吸管更可持续、更环保。然而,这些吸管中PFAS的存在意味着这可能是不可信的。 【12题详解】 词义猜测题。根据划线单词句中“However, the presence of PFAS in these straws means…”(然而,这些吸管中PFAS的存在意味着……)以及第二段中“PFAS chemicals, infamous for their longevity and potential harm, can adversely affect humans, wildlife and the environment.”(PFAS化学物质因其寿命长和潜在危害而臭名昭著,会对人类、野生动物和环境产生不利影响。)可知,此处应为这些吸管中PFAS的存在意味着这可能是不可信的。故可猜测划线单词discredited为“不可信”的意思,结合选项C项Doubtful“怀疑的”意思一致。故选C项。 【13题详解】 细节理解题。根据第二段中“They biodegrade (生物降解) very slowly over time and can persist over thousands of years in the environment, a property that has led to them being known as “forever chemicals”.”(随着时间的推移,它们的生物降解非常缓慢,可以在环境中存在数千年,这一特性使它们被称为“永远的化学物质”。)可知,PFAS化学物质被称为“永远的化学物质”是因为它们需要很长时间才能降解。故选B项。 【14题详解】 细节理解题。根据第三段“They found that most brands (69%) contained PFAS, with 18 different PFAS detected in total. In paper straws, PFAS was detected in 90% of the brands tested. PFAS was also detected in 80% of brands of bamboo straws, 75% of plastic straw brands and 40% of glass straw brands.”(他们发现大多数品牌(69%)含有PFAS,总共检测到18种不同的PFAS。在纸质吸管中,90%的品牌检测到PFAS。在80%的竹吸管、75%的塑料吸管和40%的玻璃吸管中也检测到PFAS。)可知,从PFAS测试中我们能知道纸吸管最可能含有PFAS。故选B项。 【15题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段“The PFAS concentrations (浓度) were low and, considering that most people only use straws occasionally, pose a limited risk to human health. However, PFAS can remain in the body for many years and concentrations can build up over time. “Small amounts of PFAS, while not harmful in themselves, can add to the chemical load already present in the body,” Dr. Groffen concludes.”(PFAS浓度较低,考虑到大多数人只是偶尔使用吸管,对人体健康构成的风险有限。然而,PFAS可以在体内停留多年,浓度会随着时间的推移而增加。“少量的PFAS虽然本身无害,但会增加体内已经存在的化学负荷,”Groffen博士总结道。)可推知,作者在最后一段想强调PFAS的潜在风险。故选A项。 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 First aid refers to the initial medical attention given immediately after an injury or an accident. ____16____ They think it's a job exclusive to medical professionals. In fact, it's a life skill we all should try to learn. According to The Guardian, over 150,000 people get critically injured or die yearly because of people's lack of first aid knowledge. That's a tall number considering we live in the modern age. Thus, more people must know what to do in case of accidents or medical emergencies. ____17____ We can reduce these life-threatening situations by learning the prompt care needed in such situations. Whether we like it or not, accidents and emergencies happen at any time. ____18____ In the USA alone, over six million people are involved in traffic accidents each year. In fact, it's the leading cause of death for people between the ages of 1 and 54. That said, no one can predict when or where disaster may strike. These accidents can happen at home, at work, or while in transit. That's why basic first aid skills like CPR, disinfecting (消毒) wounds, and learning to stop bleeding can go a long way. ____19____ It's a vital step that prevents injuries from worsening until full medical help arrives. For instance, when a person experiences cardiac arrest, they only have 3 to 4 minutes before the brain lacks oxygen. What you do in these minutes will impact the patient's condition. Calling for an ambulance is, of course, your priority. ____20____ A Developed countries witness a greater death rate. B. But it might encounter traffic jams during rush hours. C. However, if you can employ CPR, it can relieve the damage. D. It's a part of our reality that we must always prepare ourselves for. E. The bad news is that not many people know the importance of first aid. F. Heart attacks and choking endanger thousands of lives on a yearly basis. G The first few minutes are the most critical in the case of a medical emergency. 【答案】16. E 17. F 18. D 19. G 20. C 【解析】 【导语】本文是一篇说明文。文章阐述了急救很重要的原因。 【16题详解】 根据空后“They think it's a job exclusive to medical professionals. In fact, it's a life skill we all should try to learn. (他们认为这是医疗专业人员独有的工作。事实上,这是我们都应该学习的一项生活技能)”,可知前面应该说很多人对急救的错误认知。E项“The bad news is that not many people know the importance of first aid. (坏消息是没有多少人知道急救的重要性)”符合语境,引出下文人们对急救的错误看法。故选E。 【17题详解】 根据空前“Thus, more people must know what to do in case of accidents or medical emergencies. (因此,更多的人必须知道在发生事故或医疗紧急情况时该怎么做)”以及空后“We can reduce these life-threatening situations by learning the prompt care needed in such situations.” (我们可以通过学习在这种情况下所需的及时护理来减少这些危及生命的情况),可知此处应该举例说明一些需要急救的紧急情况, F项“Heart attacks and choking endanger thousands of lives on a yearly basis.” (心脏病发作和窒息每年危及数千人的生命)符合语境。故选F。 【18题详解】 根据空前“Whether we like it or not, accidents and emergencies happen at any time.”(不管我们喜不喜欢,事故和紧急情况随时都会发生),以及空后又举例说明了交通事故的情况,可知D项“It's a part of our reality that we must always prepare ourselves for.” (这是我们现实的一部分,我们必须时刻做好准备)符合语境,承接上文事故随时会发生,说明我们要做好准备。故选D。 【19题详解】 根据空后“It's a vital step that prevents injuries from worsening until full medical help arrives. (这是一个至关重要的步骤,可以防止伤势恶化,直到全面的医疗帮助到来)”,可知这里强调急救最初时间的重要性。G项“The first few minutes are the most critical in the case of a medical emergency. (在医疗急救情况下,最初几分钟最为关键。)”符合语境。故选G。 【20题详解】 根据空前“Calling for an ambulance is, of course, your priority.” (当然,叫救护车是你的首要任务) ;C项“However, if you can employ CPR, it can relieve the damage.” (但是如果你能使用心肺复苏术,它可以减轻伤害)与前文形成转折,进一步说明除了叫救护车,会心肺复苏术也很重要。故选C。 第三部分 语言运用(每小题1分,满分15分) 第一节(共15小题;每小题1分,满分15分) 阅读下面短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出最佳选项。 Once a teacher took her students to her village. A They stopped seeking feedback actively. C Researchers in Australia and the US are starting a multi-million dollar project to bring the Tasmanian tiger, nicknamed thylacine(袋狼), back from extinction. C. Human activities. D Technology needed to bring back the extinct. 11. In which column of a magazine can we read this passage? A. Science and Technology. B. History and Traditions. C. Nature and Environment. D. Culture and Society. D Does using an eco-friendly paper straw (吸管) give you a good feeling because you’re doing something for the environment? 12.
