“Last summer, I went to Beijing and visited the Great Wall first.”
“After breakfast, we took a bus to the theme park.”
“I saw colorful flowers and heard birds singing in the countryside.”
“The sea breeze felt cool on my face.”
“There was nothing boring about the trip—every moment was exciting!”
“I met someone interesting at the hotel—a traveler from France.”
“In Inner Mongolia, we drank tea with milk and learned to ride horses.” “In Inner Mongolia”点明地域,“drank tea with milk”和“learned to ride horses”分别展示了当地的饮食文化和传统活动,让读者感受到内蒙古独特的文化风情。)
“Don’t miss the local snacks—they are cheap and delicious!”
“Travelling teaches me that the world is bigger than I thought.” 此句中,“Travelling teaches me”阐述了旅行的意义在于给作者带来认知上的改变,“the world is bigger than I thought”则是作者的个人感悟,通过旅行拓宽了对世界的认知。)
“This trip wasn’t just fun—it helped me understand different cultures.” “This trip wasn’t just fun”表明旅行不局限于表面的娱乐,“it helped me understand different cultures”进一步深化了旅行的意义,体现了作者通过旅行在文化认知方面的收获。)
如在思考 “What makes a trip unforgettable?”

My Summer Vacation
Summer is known for the hot weather and holidays. It’s a great time for us to relax and connect with nature. This year our family decided to go for a summer trip to a hill station Many beautiful places in India are known for their natural beauty, such as Wilson Hills, Kufri and Kerala. After a long discussion about which hill station to go for, we finally selected Shimla.

How can we relax after busy workdays?
Walking through the city streets at weekends is now a new favourite among young people in China. It is called Citywalk. People can take a Citywalk on their own or by following a tour guide. They usually don’t go to famous shopping centres. Instead, they go to small shops or restaurants, take a close look at old buildings and know about the history and culture of the city.
Many Citywalkers love to share their routes (路线) with others, including how long the walk will take and what beautiful places they will see along the way. It is helpful to others who also want to take a Citywalk.
Nan Xi, a girl from Beijing, moved to Shanghai not long ago. One day, when she went online (在线) to find something interesting to do on weekends, she got to know about Citywalk. “I think Shanghai is a wonderful city to take a Citywalk. There are big trees along the streets and shops selling different things. It’s great for friends to walk together and take photos,” she said. She decided to have a try. She had a two-hour Citywalk tour. During the tour, the guide talked about the history of the buildings and streets along the way. “I enjoyed the trip that day. ②The next morning my family and I made our way to the cathedral. It was just a five-minute walk from our hotel. On the roof, there are many statues (雕像). They marked all the places they came from on a map, which gave her the idea of cycling coast-to-coast in Ireland and see by herself where their stories came from.

Sima Gansai met many kind-hearted strangers. Her daily plan was to cycle 4 hours a day, find a place to stay, go out for some food and then visit the pubs to find stories. Time for family
One of my most memorable (难忘的) vacations took place on a farm.
When I was a boy, my parents and I traveled from New York City to the countryside for a weeklong taste of rural life. We stayed in a guesthouse on a farm, joining in the daily routines (日常事务) and eating meals with the farmer and his family.
We got up early to see the cows as they were milked. I even tried my hand at milking one, then joined the farmer as he released the cows into the field afterward. Later, while my parents busied themselves with farm chores, I helped feed the other animals, then played with the farmer’s kids.
Decades later I still have vivid memories of that trip and of experiencing a lifestyle different from my own. It made me realize the value of a vacation, of seeing new things, meeting new people and sharing memorable experiences with family members.
To this day I still consider that family trip when I plan my approach to taking time off with my wife and kids. Vacations are a time for resting and connecting. As a bank manager, I spend much of my workday encouraging my customers to save their money. One of the reasons I give is that we should all have enough for a family vacation every year. In our busy lives, family is what we should be saving our money, and time for.
For my family, our vacations start when we begin planning the trips. We talk about destinations and our budget ahead of time. Among the things we discuss: Can we save money by renting a house instead of spending six nights in a hotel? Would it be better to buy groceries and cook for ourselves rather than eat out every night?
Involving the kids in planning the vacation makes sure that they have a great vacation too. While I prefer to visit historical sites and museums, they love to fish and swim. So I build in some relaxation time so that the vacation works for everyone.
Each year, setting aside vacation time to spend together is especially important to us. A relaxing environment opens the doors to all kinds of conversations—deep, silly, meaningful. There’s no pressure from the usual everyday tasks.
This is the one week a year when I don’t care whether my kids cleaned their room or did the dishes. What matters that week is that everyone is having a great time.

Unit 1 Happy Holiday

We drove there and arrived in the morning. Then, we went to the hotel that we had booked. Shimla has many things for tourists to enjoy, such as beautiful places and shopping streets full of people from different countries.
We planned the trip for 5 days. On the afternoon of the first day, we went to the shopping streets and Jakhu hills. They are the main tourist spots (旅游景点) in the city. Many activities were going on there and then we enjoyed the amazing nightlife of Shimla. The next day, we traveled on a toy train. The toy train runs from Kalka to Shimla. There are only 3 such trains in India, and one of them is here. It’s funny to travel on the train even though it runs slowly. The next 3 days were spent visiting places near Shimla, like Chail, Kufri, and Chitkul. We tried some snow sports in these places while enjoying their natural beauty.

The idea of having the trip was started by her Irish friends who always share their memories and stories about living in Ireland.

Can you travel with your home? Some people in the US may say “Yes!” During the holidays, some US families often get into their recreational vehicles (RVs 房车) and go on a road trip across the country.
People call RVs the houses on the wheels (车轮). From a kitchen and bathroom to beds, you can find most ordinary (普通的) rooms here. How cool it is!
Not like real (真的) houses, these homes on the road are small. But with them, your trip becomes easy. You can drive as long as you like. Or you can just stop somewhere nice and stay there for a few weeks. On the road, you may also meet other travelling families. Together, you take out your tents and snacks. It’s happy camping time!
