It doesn't matter if your business is big or small. You have to-let people know that
you're there and what it is you have to sell. And that,of course,is where advertising(
comes in.It's everywhere you go-in newspapers and magazines,on TV,on radio,in
cinemas,on websites...there's no escape anywhere.
Take your

Sandwich board men were, and in some places still are,a popular way of producing a

simple and mobile ad at a reasonably low cost. There are surely more unusual ways, like
sky-writing:hiring a special,smoke-producing plane to write the name of your product in the sky.It works well,
but of course,it's costly and doesn't last long.Planes are also sometimes used to pull banners()with words
across the sky. They're still quite popular nowadays.
The world of advertising is all about making an impression and getting noticed, and this can lead people to be
very creative. For example,an airline paid a cafe to advertise the price of their flights to Rome in the foam()
of coffee. Also, there's a restaurant in the USA that made large, fake seashells()and placed them on the beach.
When passers-by opened up a shell,they read the message"Looking for seafood?"and the restaurant's address.It
is pretty smart and maybe works very well.
Advertising is often funny too.One of my favourite ads is made by as small a business as you can get-a
window cleaner named Jim.He placed a small card behind the windows that he cleaned which said:"If you can
read this,I've done a good job",followed,of course,by his telephone number. This has been called "guerrilla(
)advertising"-using very cheap materials like sandwich boards to make a big impression.Instead of using
people, you could use something else, like cows. That's what a website in Florida did.
However, some people feel that advertising is too intrusive. When facing ads, they may think"Can't we

have a cup of coffee or a walk along the beach without someone trying to sell us something?"
36.What can we learn about advertising from paragraph 1?
A.Ads can help businesses grow in size.
B.Some businesses need more ads than others.
.C.The Interet is the best way of advertising.D.People can not avoid ads in everyday lives.
37.What did thelairline and theUS restaurantmave in common in advertising2
A.Both offered low prices.
B.Both used online methods.
C.Both advertised in unusual places.
D.Both cared about service.
38.Which of the following is the possible reasonwhy the writer likes Jim's ad best?
A.It connected humor with his service.
B.It used expensive materials creatively.
C.It was widely shared on the Intemet.
D.It followed common advertising rules.
39.What does the underlined word"intrusive"in paragraph 5 probably mean in Chinese?
A.便利的
B.复杂的
C.打扰人的
D.有规律的
40.What is the main purpose of the text?
A.To encourage people to advertise.
B.To describe forms of advertising.
C.To compare different products on ads.
D.To list reasons for advertising.
