Without gravity, you would fly into outer space. Gravity pulls everything towards the center of the Earth with a certain amount (数量) of force (力). This amount of force is called weight. You can find the weight of an object (物品) by putting it on the scale. All planets and moons have a force of gravity. Some planets and moons have more gravity than the Earth and some have less. The planet in the solar system with the strongest force of gravity is Jupiter (木星). The Moon is smaller than the Earth. This means that it has less gravity than the Earth. Things will weigh less on the Moon than on the Earth. If you weighed 60 pounds on the Earth, you would weigh about 10 pounds on the Moon! Since there is less gravity on the Moon, people can jump higher there. If you threw a ball on the Moon, it would fly very far. Some planets like Saturn (土星) are much bigger than the Earth. Objects weigh more on these bigger planets. There is more force that pulls things down. On Jupiter you would weigh about twice as much as you weigh on the Earth. Your arms would weigh twice as much, too! How would it feel to throw a baseball? Some things might be easier to do on the Jupiter. Imagine how fast you could skate down a hill. There would be more gravity pulling you down! 21. Which of the following can best describe the word “scale” in Paragraph 1? A. A way that helps you to lose weight and stay fit. B. A tool that tells you the right size of something. C. A machine that tells you how tall an object is. D. An instrument that shows how heavy a thing is. 22. How much would a man weigh on the Moon if he weighed 120 pounds on the Earth? A. About 20 pounds. B. About 60 pounds. C. About 180 pounds. D. About 720 pounds. 23. What’s the purpose of this passage? A. To introduce some ways to study gravity. B. To imagine humans’ life without gravity. C. To give basic information about gravity. D. To discuss gravity in humans’ daily life. B Michael was a professional football player, but in 2017 he had an accident in a swimming pool. After that, he couldn’t move his body from the shoulders down. Doctors told him that he’d probably never walk again, but Michael didn’t want to believe this. He had recently got engaged (订婚) to the woman who is now his wife and he said that she was the main reason he wanted to get better. He spent six days staring at his toes and trying to make them move—and, finally, he succeeded! This was the start of a long journey. While in hospital, Michael met John, a man in his late thirties. Doctors had also told John he would never walk again, but Michael encouraged him not to give up and six months later, John told Michael he was walking with a stick. Only a year after his accident, Michael climbed the highest mountain in Wales. Since then he has also climbed a 6,500-meter mountain in Nepal and he said that after each big climb he noticed his body could do new movements. Two years later, 31-year-old Michael climbed 8,848 meters, the height of the world’s highest mountain, by going up and down his parents’ stairs 2,783 times. When he finished, he told a news reporter he had loved it although it sometimes was “painful” and “boring”. He also raised £46,000 for charity (慈善). Michael hopes his story can help people. That’s why he started his own charity, M2M, which aims to support “people facing challenges in life”. 24. How did the writer mainly develop Michael’s story? A. By listing important numbers. B. A. c-e-b-d-a. B. c-b-d-e-a. C. e-a-b-d-c. D. e-b-d-c-a. 27. What would be the best title for the passage? A. A Football Player B. A Charity Worker C. A Mountain Climber D. A Challenge Lover C Chinese calligraphy (书法) is an art form of writing Chinese characters (汉字), often with a brush and ink (墨) on Xuan paper. The development of Chinese calligraphy began from the Shang Dynasty (16th century—11th century BC) in Anyang, Henan Province, as one way to record dates on animal bones (骨头). Over time, calligraphy slowly took shape as a form of art instead of only a way of record. There are mainly five famous styles: running, cursive, official, seal and regular. Each of them shows its special beauty. Calligraphy is a challenging art. The type of brush, ink and paper can all change the output. From brush inclination (倾斜度) and direction to speed of writing, every turn of the wrist (手腕) is also seriously managed. The structure of every character can influence its quality (质量) as well. Moreover, it is said that the feelings of the writer are shown on calligraphy. Calligraphy is a beautiful art. Lan Ting Xu (the Orchid Pavilion Preface), created by Wang Xizhi during the Eastern Jin Dynasty (317—420), is one of the most famous works of Chinese calligraphy. Its beauty gives it both historical and cultural importance in Chinese culture. ▲ Like the Spring Festival couplets (对联) on the doors, calligraphy can be easily seen in Chinese families. It is also learned as a hobby for both the young and the old. Where there is Chinese language, there is Chinese calligraphy, and where there is calligraphy, there is beauty. The art is still highly valued today, for it is more than just writing, and it is a national treasure. 28. What was the early form of calligraphy used to do? A. Draw pictures. B. Keep diaries. C. Record daily life. D. Record dates. 29. How can you understand the phrase “running, cursive, official, seal and regular” in Paragraph 1 in Chinese? A. 楷书方正善 B. 行云流水意 C. 行草隶篆楷 D. 紫砂笔墨添 30. Which sentence can be put in the ▲ ? A. Calligraphy is quite useful in our life. B. Calligraphy is not far from our life. C. Calligraphy is popular with the young and the old. D. Calligraphy is the most popular art form now. 31. What can we infer from the passage? A. People from Henan are very good at calligraphy. B. Calligraphy can only be used in Chinese language. C. Wang Xizhi’s feelings are shown on the calligraphy of Lan Ting Xu. D. Wang Xizhi was hardworking and practiced calligraphy every day. D ①A Long March 2F rocket carrying the Shenzhou-18 spacecraft with three taikonauts was successfully sent into space on April 25th from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch (发射) Center in Northwest China. ②The taikonauts are Ye Guangfu, Li Cong and Li Guangsu, with Ye as the leader. It is Ye’s second time to go to space within 3 years. And this is Li Cong and Li Guangsu’s first space flight. ③This launch has a lot of breakthroughs (突破). First of all, launching in April is really challenging. April is famous for being very windy and sandy in the center. So, experts carefully planned the best time to launch according to the April wind speed data from the last 10 years. Secondly, there have been greater technological developments in both the spacecraft and the rocket to improve safety. Another big change worth mentioning is the new battery (电池) for the spacecraft. It is lighter and can work longer. ④The three taikonauts will have many tasks during their stay. More than 90 experiments (实验) covering areas such as material science, life science and medicine will be done in space. ⑤A very special task is to raise zebrafish in space. They will create a simple ecosystem to study how the space environment affects (影响) their growth and system balance. If the experiment succeeds, it will be an important breakthrough in keeping vertebrates (脊椎动物) in China’s space program. ⑥Moreover, they will also learn how plants change and get used to the environment by doing the first-ever stem cell (干细胞) study in space. This will help to choose proper vegetables for space farming. ⑦Besides these experiments, the taikonauts will do two or three space walks. And they will further keep the safety of the space station. ⑧Exploring space is not just a dream for our country. We are making new achievements, showing the world that China is becoming stronger and stronger. And we are sure the Shenzhou-18 crew will do well, although the tasks have become more complicated and harder. 32. If you want to add a paragraph about “stories of the three taikonauts”, where can you put it? A. After Para.2. B. After Para.3. C. After Para.4. D. After Para.5. 33. The breakthroughs of this launch include ________. ①launch in April ②use of the new battery ③changes in wind speed ④developments in technology A. ①②③ B. ①③④ C. ①②④ D. ②③④ 34. What can we infer from the passage? A. This is the first space flight for these three taikonauts in China. B. Taikonauts may not need to take vegetables to space in the future. C. The taikonauts will be able to keep any animal they like in space. D. More than 90 experiments will be done during the space journey. 35. Which of the following can best show the structure of this passage? A. B. C. D. Ⅴ. 阅读填空(每空2.5分,共10分) More and more people think that life is better in the city than the countryside. For the first time in history more than 50% of the world’s population lives in the cities. However, there are still many groups of people who live in some of the wildest places on the planet. The Kalahari is a large area of bush (灌木) land in southern Africa. It has two parts. The south part is drier than the north and plants do not grow there very well. Every year at the end of summer it rains and the land becomes more beautiful than at other times of the year. But the grass and the bushes soon get dry and turn brown again. Life there is difficult. The San are a group of people who live in the Kalahari. They live in huts, eat wild animals-even lions-plants and berries. They are very good with bows and arrows, and use them for hunting. Up in the mountains of central Papua New Guinea is the Chimbu Province. This jungle area is one of the world’s most remote places. It is also home to Mt Wilhelm, the highest mountain on the island. Several different tribes (部落) live in the valleys (山谷) between the mountains. One of these is the Chimbu skeleton (骷髅) dancers. They paint skeletons onto their bodies. This makes them look scarier in order to keep other people away from their land. The Yamal Peninsula in northern Siberia is one and a half times bigger than France. It is frozen for much of the year and temperatures can reach -50°C in the winter. But this area is home to a tribe of about 10,000 people called the Nenets. The Nenets are nomadic, meaning they often move from one place to another. Each year around 300,000 deer move around the land and the Nenets always go with them. The recent finding of gas in the area means more people than before are visiting the Yamal. So the Nenets now have more communication with people from other places. 根据文章内容,用自己的语言概括文章。在空白处填入恰当的单词或短语,每空最多3个词。 There are many groups of people living in far-away places on the planet. The San are a group of people who live in the Kalahari. The ____36____ in the south part causes problems for plants growing. People need ____37____ with bows and arrows to get food. The Chimbu skeleton dancers are one of the tribes living in the Chimbu Province. They paint scary things on their bodies to ____38____. The Nenets often move from one place to another. The finding of gas tells us they have more communication with the ____39____ world. Ⅵ.口语应用(每小题1分,共5分) 阅读下面对话,从七个选项中选出五个恰当的句子完成对话。 A: Excuse me. ____40____ B: Yes, I am. And you are…? Studies even show that more and more people watch short videos all day long. So why is it so hard to say no to short videos? Algorithmic recommendation (算法推荐) must be the answer. It is so smart that it can find our likes. The more we like something, the more it will feed us similar information. Now, you see why it’s so hard to refuse short videos. It’s time to work out why you will become stupid if you keep watching it. When you spend hours watching short videos, the algorithm keeps showing you things similar to what you’ve already liked. This situation is called “information cocoon” (信息茧房). After watching many videos, you may think you know a lot. But actually, you only see the same kind of things again and again—like staying in a small room all the time. Also, you may find it’s difficult to read and think. Since you are used to this easy and -fun way of going through those videos, you won’t want to do anything that takes time or effort. Another reason is that wrong decisions may be made when you act too quickly. For example, if you watch a video that says someone is bad, you might believe it and even write a comment (评论). But later, you find out the story in the video is made up, and you may feel sorry and even angry at yourself. See, you become less smart little by little without noticing it. Maybe it’s time to wake up—you need a better way to have fun! 45. Does algorithmic recommendation make it difficult for us to refuse short videos? ______________________________________________________ 46. How may people feel when they find out the story in the video is made up? ______________________________________________________ 47. Why do short videos make people stupid? ______________________________________________________ 48. If you want to break the “information cocoon”, what will you do? It pulls you back to the ground when you jump in the air. On Jupiter, you would weigh about twice as much as you weigh on the Earth. 【答案】21. D 22. A 23. C 【解析】 【导语】本文主要介绍了重力的基本概念及其在不同天体上的表现。 【21题详解】 词义猜测题。根据“This amount of force is called weight. ”和“ You can find the weight of an object (物品) ”可知,scale是用来测量物体重量的工具,D选项符合。故选D。 【22题详解】 推理判断题。根据“If you weighed 60 pounds on the Earth, you would weigh about 10 pounds on the Moon.”可推算出,地球与月球上的重量比例约为6:1。因此,120磅在地球上的人在月球上约重20磅。故选A。 【23题详解】 主旨大意题。全文通过介绍重力的定义、测量方式、在不同星球的表现等内容,提供了关于重力的基本信息。故选C。 B Michael was a professional football player, but in 2017 he had an accident in a swimming pool. 45.
