Passage 1
(22-23高二下·辽宁鞍山·期中)I love travelling. One of my fondest memories of travel is when I spent a few days backpacking in Bucharest, Romania. An unexpected act of kindness from a stranger truly made me feel moved. 1
The first day I arrived in Bucharest I had to take the bus from the train station to my accommodation. I boarded the bus and found out that none of my cards worked and I wasn’t able to buy a ticket. 2 Although I explained that it wasn’t my intention and I had just arrived from Brasov, they still didn’t believe me and fined me for not having a ticket.
After doing some research online, I found that most buses in Bucharest do not accept cash or any form of payment onboard. You have to purchase a card at certain places in the city, top it up with money, and then pay onboard. 3 You can use wireless pay to purchase a ticket. I was delighted after finding out such good news as I did not want another fine.
4 After I got on the bus, I found the ticket machine to be the same as the one I had met with on my first day in Bucharest. I tried in vain every method, including wireless pay, Apple Pay and cash. 5 At that moment, a kind middle-aged man standing next to me handed me a card. I understood that it was a card for the bus. Passage 2
(23-24高三上·山东菏泽·期末)Does your dog always want to go wherever you’re going and most of the time, this behavior is welcomed? 1 However, if you find your dog doing this too often or if it’s accompanied by other troubling behavior like eating less, going outside less often or interacting less with other family members, there could be potential issues.
2 Usually, it’s simply out of loyalty and the close relationship that’s been created with its owner, because he or she is the one that provides care and comfort and keeps it safe. However, sometimes, your dog wants to follow you possibly due to something negative. 3
Dogs are emotional animals and may feel anxious for some reason sometimes. It may take much time and training to help your dog work through what’s causing the problem 4 You’ll have to work with your dog consistently or hire a professional trainer.
One way to stop your dog from following you might be putting it in a secure and reliable area. 5 If your dog spends all of its time with you and you alone, it may express a dislike for being away from you or interacting with other humans or dogs.
A.You and your dog must have a similar lifestyle.
B.You may think it’s because it loves and trusts you.
C.There are many reasons why dogs follow their owners.
D.For example, it could be ill, bored, nervous or stressed.
E.Keep in mind that the behavior won’t be cured overnight.

Passage 3
Safer Internet Day is a yearly event in which Internet companies, charities, and schools team up to talk about how young people can stay safe online. 1
This year’s event is on 8th February. 2 And it will focus on respect and relationships in games, social apps, and anywhere else that people spend time online. Safer Internet Day is happening as the UK Government works on its Online Safety Bill, which will introduce more rules for how social media and technology companies keep people safe when using their services.
It will put an organization called Ofcom in charge. 3 “Any service that is used by children in the UK will have to understand the risks and put in place measures to keep them safe,” says Tony Stower, who is in charge of online safety at Ofcom.
4 They can learn about how they can help to make the Internet a safe and positive place. “They can be good digital citizens, remembering that if you send a message that might be mean or unpleasant, that’s going to hurt the person receiving it,” says Stower. “ 5 Tell a trusted adult — a teacher, a parent or an older sibling, for example — if you see something that worries or scares or upsets you online.”
A.Its theme is “All Fun and Games?”.
B.Ofcom has carried out surveys with young people.
C.30% of young people say they have been bullied online.

Passage 4
(23-24高二下·河南漯河·期末)Yesterday I volunteered with some of my fellow Rotaract Club of Hampstead, Hendon, and Golders Green (HH&GG) members at the Hampstead Christmas Festival. Rotaract is a service club for people aged 18 to 30. Through the Rotaract program, young adults can meet new people and learn new skills. 1 .
When we arrived at the Festival we had no idea what we would be asked to do. 2 . My feet were wet within minutes of getting there!
3 , making sure no unauthorised people got on it during the show. I’m pleased to say we managed to do this successfully! We also were able to hear the Chicken Shed Theatre group and An get Blue singing — both were brilliant.
However, volunteering isn’t supposed to be fun, is it? It is supposed to be a selfless act which you do for others, so the fact that you don’t enjoy it doesn’t matter, right?
Wrong! 4 ! It might not always involve meeting celebrities or doing something new and exciting, but it can always be fun. And volunteering isn’t necessarily a selfless act — you can learn and develop skills, try new things, and meet lots of new and interesting people.
We gave up our time to help out at the Festival, despite the bad weather, with no idea of what our role would be. 5 . For example, we got more chairs for the stage when required. We had a fantastic experience this Sunday afternoon.
A.It was a cold, dark, rainy day
B.Volunteering is supposed to be fun
C.Also they can help their local community

Passage 5
(22-23高二下·全国·单元测试)If you always take on too many projects at once and spend too much of your time doing things you don’t want to do, or if you always get things done, but they are not always the best you can do, you must be a person who’s terrible at saying no. 1
Being a quitter isn’t being someone who doesn’t see important things through to the end. 2 By quitting these things, you’ll free up time to do things that actually create value. You’ll be able to begin to put your time and effort into the things you’d actually like to do.
3 We say, “Well, I’ve already invested (投入) so much time in this, I might as well hold on to the end.” Instead, quit as often as possible, regardless of the time invested. If you’re reading a book and don’t like it, stop reading. 4 Instead of reading an entire book you hate, read half of a bad one and half of a good one. Isn’t that a better use of your time?
Let’s learn how to say “no” at the beginning or in the middle and free up more of our time to do the things we’d like to be doing and the things actually worth doing. 5 But if we do both, we’ll start to make sure that we’re spending our time creating value, rather than increasing our losses. Let’s be quitters together.
A.Everyone’s time is different.
B.Then it’s time for you to be a quitter.
C.The ability to say no is important in our lives.
D.Saying no is hard and admitting a mistake is even harder.
E.The cleverest thing to do is stop before your losses grow even more.
F.A quitter is someone who gets out when there’s no value in what he’s doing.
G.We always get involved in something, realize we don’t like it but keep on going.

(23-24高二下·广东·期末)On a large scale, making the world a better place can seem challenging. 1 As a leader, your perspectives and ideas can directly impact your community for the better. Here are some ways to make an impact and grow your leadership through emotional intelligence.
2 Being able to provide a safe space through deep listening creates trust, which lays the foundation for meaningful relationships and fruitful partnerships. As a result, people are more likely to share openly and honestly. Empathy and listening will increase the quality of your relationships and skyrocket your results.
Making a positive impact can also be as simple as taking the time to acknowledge and inspire someone into action. Taking time to acknowledge someone by letting them know you see their efforts and talents. 3 An example of what this could sound like is, “Wow! I am blown away by your project. What I see possible for you is to share with the rest of the team how to do it too.”
Get involved with your already existing communities and networking circles. Start by connecting with your peers and ask them about causes they’re already involved in. 4 There is almost no limit to the impact you can create contributing to a cause that matters to you and your peers. With a little time, you can make a big difference.
Sharing your knowledge and strengths is another essential skill. When you share with others, you’re teaching them something special about you and your journey. Imagine what would be possible if your community was in the mode of cooperation and contribution. This approach creates new ideas and opportunities. 5
A.Show your kindness and respect to others.
B.This informs them that they are appreciated.

Passage 9
(23-24高二下·广东·阶段练习)You’ve sized up the benefits of volunteering, looked over your schedule, and decided you have both the time and desire to give back to your community. 1 Here are some tips to find and get suitable volunteer opportunities in your area — or farther afield.
Identify your values.
2 Make a list of the values that drive you, or the issues you care about, and then look for organizations with complementary (互补的) missions and opportunities. For instance, if your primary motivation is to strengthen social connections with peers, you might look to organizations such as school groups that require interaction with other parents, or neighbors.
If you’re motivated to serve the less fortunate, you might target organizations that work with housing-insecure populations, people with disabilities or members of historically disadvantaged groups. Motivations for volunteering are as diverse as the volunteers harboring them. 3
Try to involve the whole family.
Many parents who volunteer turn giving back into a family affair. Community service is a great way to teach kids the value of selflessness. 4 Look for volunteer engagements that welcome people of all ages and abilities, and schedule time for the whole family to participate —whether that means spending an afternoon picking up trash on the side of the highway, or a week in a faraway flood zone.
5
Once you find a well-run organization that aligns with (符合) your availability, values, talents, and objectives, work with your contact there to set a volunteer schedule that fits your life. If you’re exploring a frequent engagement — say, a weekly or biweekly commitment —think carefully about how much time you can afford to donate. It’s better to commit to shorter or less frequent volunteer hours than to take on an unmanageable workload.
A.What motivates you to give back?
B.Don’t bite off more than you can chew.
C.Are you ready to build a list of ideal places to volunteer?
D.It’s also an opportunity to spend more time with your family.
E.Don’t overthink the process of finding opportunities to volunteer.
F.Whatever your motivations are, there’s an organization out there that needs your help.
G.Now comes the most difficult part: finding volunteer opportunities that are right for you.
Passage 10
(22-23高二下·福建三明·期末)What do you do with old stuff? That top you bought for a party three years ago, for example You wore it once and it’s been hanging in your wardrobe (衣柜) ever since. You could throw it away, but that seems wasteful-after all it’s still perfectly usable. So, what to do? 1
The first charity shops appeared in Britain in the 19th Century. The Salvation Army, a UK charity, was one of the first to run a second-hand clothing shop to provide the poor and needy with affordable clothes. 2 It also raised money for the war effort during World War Two.
These days, charity shops are a common sight with around 11,200 shops across the UK, according to the Charity Retail Association. During business hours any member of the public can donate their unwanted items to a charity shop. 3 These items are checked and if found still serviceable, priced up to be sold at a heavily discounted price.
For many this is a win-win situation. 4 To the consumer, it provides the opportunity to buy, often extremely cheaply, items and clothes. To the donator, it may help to ease consumer guilt “You can make a pretty good case, because what you are doing is going towards a charitable cause and you are saving stuff from landfill,” Clare Press, fashion journalist and sustainable style advocate, tells the Guardian.
5 On more than one occasion a buyer has purchased something very cheaply, only to later discover its true value. It sold at auction (拍卖会) for £4,200. So next time you need to rid yourself of something, spare a thought for the charity shop-after all, charity begins at home!
A.Most charity shops will take anything.
B.Here are some tips that you can follow.
C.It’s recommended to donate new items.
D.In the UK, we might take it to a charity shop.
E.There are sometimes hidden treasures for the buyers, too.
F.To the charity, it means they can pursue their charitable aim.
G.This was followed by charities such as the British Red Cross.

4. 根据后文“After I got on the bus, I found the ticket machine to be the same as the one I had met with on my first day in Bucharest.(上车后,我发现售票机和我在布加勒斯特第一天遇到的那台一样。)”
5. 根据前文“I tried in vain every method, including wireless pay, Apple Pay and cash.(我尝试了各种方法,包括无线支付、Apple Pay和现金,但都徒劳无用。)” 故选A。

D.Our role at the event would be to turn the lights on
E.Some past members of the club have benefited a lot
F.Our role at the Festival was to stand behind the stage
G.We not only had an important job but also helped in other ways
C 2. A 3. F 4. B 5. G
1. 根据上文“Through the Rotaract program, young adults can meet new people and learn new skills.(透过Rotaract项目,年轻人可以结识新朋友并学习新技能。)” Also they can help their local community(他们也可以帮助当地社区)符合语境。故选C。
2. 根据下文“My feet were wet within minutes of getting there!(我到那不到几分钟脚就湿了!)” A项:It was a cold, dark, rainy day(那是一个又冷又黑的雨天)符合语境。故选A。
3. 根据下文“making sure no unauthorised people got on it during the show.(确保没有未经授权的人在演出期间登上它。)” Our role at the Festival was to stand behind the stage(我们在电影节上的角色是站在舞台后面)符合语境。故选F。

5. 上文提到“We gave up our time to help out at the Festival, despite the bad weather, with no idea of what our role would be.(我们放弃了时间去帮助节日,尽管天气不好,也不知道我们的角色会是什么)”。但接下来却提到“For example, we got more chairs for the stage when required.(例如,当需要时,我们为舞台准备了更多的椅子。)” We not only had an important job but also helped in other ways(我们不仅有一项重要的工作,而且在其他方面也提供了帮助)符合语境。故选G。
B 2. F 3. G 4. E 5. D
1. 根据上文“If you always take on too many projects at once and spend too much of your time doing things you don’t want to do, or if you always get things done, but they are not always the best you can do, you must be a person who’s terrible at saying no.(如果你总是一次承担太多的项目,花太多的时间做你不想做的事情,或者如果你总是把事情做完,但它们并不总是你能做的最好的,你一定是一个不善于说不的人)”可知,上文指出是一个不善于说不得人,结合下文说明了说不带来的好处,可知本句总起下文,建议当放弃者,故B选项“那么你是时候当一个放弃者了”符合语境,故选B。
2. 根据上文“Being a quitter isn’t being someone who doesn’t see important things through to the end.(做一个放弃者并不是做一个不能把重要的事情做到底的人)”以及后文“By quitting these things, you’ll free up time to do things that actually create value. You’ll be able to begin to put your time and effort into the things you’d actually like to do.(放弃这些事情,你就能腾出时间去做真正能创造价值的事情。你将能够开始把你的时间和精力投入到你真正喜欢做的事情上)”可知,上文提到放弃者,后文提到了这些事情,可知本句是在说明放弃者真正放弃的事情,F选项中quitter对应上文quitter。故F选项“放弃者是当他所做的事情没有价值时就离开的人”符合语境,故选F。
3. 根据后文“We say, “Well, I’ve already invested (投入) so much time in this, I might as well hold on to the end.” Instead, quit as often as possible, regardless of the time invested. If you’re reading a book and don’t like it, stop reading.(我们会说,“好吧,我已经在这上面投入了这么多时间,我还是坚持到最后吧。”相反,不管花了多少时间,尽可能多地放弃。如果你正在读一本不喜欢的书,那就停下来)”可知,后文提到因为投入了时间才选项坚持到最后,说明并不是真正的喜欢,但还在坚持。故G选项“我们总是卷入一些事情,意识到我们不喜欢它,但继续前进”符合语境,故选G。
4. 根据后文“Instead of reading an entire book you hate, read half of a bad one and half of a good one. Isn’t that a better use of your time?(与其读整本你讨厌的书,不如读一本烂书的一半和一本好书的一半。这不是更好地利用你的时间吗?)”可知,后文提到了读一本烂书不如读一半好书,说明要及时止损才是最好的做法。故E选项“最聪明的做法是在你的损失进一步扩大之前停止”符合语境,故选E。
5. 根据上文“Let’s learn how to say “no” at the beginning or in the middle and free up more of our time to do the things we’d like to be doing and the things actually worth doing.(让我们学会如何在开始或中途说“不”,从而腾出更多的时间去做我们想做的事情和真正值得做的事情)”以及后文“But if we do both, we’ll start to make sure that we’re spending our time creating value, rather than increasing our losses. Let’s be quitters together.(但如果我们两者都做到了,我们将开始确保我们花时间创造价值,而不是增加损失。让我们一起停止吧)”可知,后文提到了两者都做到,可知本句是在说明两者是指:说不和承认错误。故D选项“说‘不’很难,承认错误更难”符合语境,故选D。

C.As your conversation continues, ask what is needed.
D.Support your friends and colleagues by listening actively.

G 2. A 3. F 4. D 5. B

2. 根据本段标题“Identify your values.(确定你的价值观)”以及下文“Make a list of the values that drive you, or the issues you care about, and then look for organizations with complementary missions and opportunities.(列出驱动你的价值观,或者你关心的问题,然后寻找具有互补使命和机会的组织)”可知,本句与寻找你的志愿者价值观有关系。 故选A。
3. 根据上文“If you’re motivated to serve the less fortunate, you might target organizations that work with housing-insecure populations, people with disabilities or members of historically disadvantaged groups.

5. 通读本段尤其是“It’s better to commit to shorter or less frequent volunteer hours than to take on an unmanageable workload.(与其承担难以管理的工作量,不如缩短或减少志愿服务时间)”可知,本段的主旨是量力而行参加志愿服务。

5 On more than one occasion a buyer has purchased something very cheaply, only to later discover its true value. It sold at auction (拍卖会) for £4,200. So next time you need to rid yourself of something, spare a thought for the charity shop-after all, charity begins at home!

They step up to fill gaps in services, provide assistance to vulnerable populations, and support community organizations and nonprofits. These social connections not only enhance the social fabric of a community but also contribute to increased citizen engagement and a greater sense of collective responsibility .(当个人为了共同的目标走到一起时,他们就会产生归属感和团结感。 A项“Strengthening social bonds (加强社会联系)”符合语境,故选A。
5. 根据本段的小标题“Enhancing Community Health and Happiness (增进社区健康和幸福)”以及“Through healthcare initiatives, volunteers provide medical support, health education, and resources to underserved populations. (通过医疗保健倡议,志愿者向服务不足的人群提供医疗支持、健康教育和资源。)”可知,此处跟健康有关。C项“By addressing social decisive factors of health (通过解决健康的社会决定性因素)”符合语境,故选C。
Passage 15
How Can Volunteering Help You Get a Good Job?
Sometimes, by giving just a little, you can get a lot back in return. This couldn’t ring more true for volunteering. Here are just some of the things volunteering can do for your employ ability.
1
Employers like to see evidence of practical work experience on your CV (简历) — it tells them that you have the soft skills needed to work as part of a team and are able to handle responsibility. So, if the “work experience” section of your CV is: looking a little bare, volunteering is a great way to flesh it out. Even if the role isn’t super relevant to the job you want after university, so long as there are transferable (可迁移的) skills, it will be valuable for your CV.
Introduce you to new people
If you are volunteering in the sector you want to eventually work in, it will be a great way for you to network with people who have already broken into the field. 2 . They’d also make great references to refer future employers to.
Help you develop valuable skills
3 , but getting hands-on experience is key to really being able to transition into employment smoothly. Lectures and seminars can’t really teach you personal skills like leadership, time management, how to best communicate with colleagues or how to act in a professional manner, which are all valuable to employers. 4
Boost your confidence
You’ll experience so many personal benefits from helping the community or lending a hand for a worthwhile project. 5 . All of this-as well as the practical experience itself-will boost your confidence, meaning you can approach job applications and interviews with renewed courage and belief in yourself.
A.Improve your CV
B.Update your interview skills
C.Volunteering is a great way to push you ahead
D.University prepares you for work academically
E.Volunteering can help you develop all of these and plenty more

A 2. G 3. D 4. E 5. F
根据下文中的“Employers like to see evidence of practical work experience on your CV(简历) — it tells them that you have the soft skills needed to work as part of a team and are able to handle responsibility. So, if the “work experience” section of your CV is: looking a little bare, volunteering is a great way to flesh it out.(雇主喜欢在你的简历上看到实际工作经验的证据。这告诉他们,你具备作为团队成员工作所需的软技能,能够承担责任。所以,如果你简历中的“工作经验”部分是:看起来有点裸露,志愿服务是充实它的好方法。)”可知,本段主要叙述了志愿者的经历能够帮助你丰富简历,故A项“改善你的简历”适合作本段小标题。故选A。
2. 根据空前“If you are volunteering in the sector you want to eventually work in, it will be a great way for you to network with people who have already broken into the field.(如果你在你想最终工作的行业做志愿者,这将是你与已经进入该领域的人建立联系的好方法。)”及空后“They’d also make great references to refer future employers to.(他们也会为未来的雇主提供很好的参考。)”
3. 根据空后“but getting hands-on experience is key to really being able to transition into employment smoothly(但获得实践经验是真正能够顺利过渡到就业岗位的关键)”可知,空后强调了实践经验的重要性,前后之间是转折关系,再结合下句“Lectures and seminars can’t really teach you personal skills like leadership, time management, how to best communicate with colleagues or how to act in a professional manner, which are all valuable to employers.(讲座和研讨会并不能真正教会你个人技能,比如领导力、时间管理、如何最好地与同事沟通或如何以专业的方式行事,这些对雇主来说都很有价值。)”
4. 根据本段小标题“Help you develop valuable skills(帮助你发展有价值的技能)”及空前“Lectures and seminars can’t really teach you personal skills like leadership, time management, how to best communicate with colleagues or how to act in a professional manner, which are all valuable to employers.(讲座和研讨会并不能真正教会你个人技能,比如领导力、时间管理、如何最好地与同事沟通或如何以专业的方式行事,这些对雇主来说都很有价值。)”可知,空处应讲述志愿活动可以帮助获得讲座和研讨会不能做到的东西,E项“志愿活动可以帮助你发展所有这些甚至其他更多的技能”符合题意,all of these指代上文中的“personal skills like leadership, time management, how to best communicate with colleagues or how to act in a professional manner”。故选E。
5. 根据空前“You’ll experience so many personal benefits from helping the community or lending a hand for a worthwhile project.(你会从帮助社区或帮助一个有价值的项目中获得很多个人利益。)”及空后“All of this-as well as the practical experience itself-will boost your confidence, meaning you can approach job applications and interviews with renewed courage and belief in yourself.(所有这些以及实践经验本身都会增强你的信心,这意味着你可以以新的勇气和对自己的信念来处理求职和面试。)”
