Studies have indicated that your genes play a role in determining the foods you find delicious ornot. " Everything has a genetic part, even if it's small ," says Joanne Cole, a geneticist and professor at the University of Colorado. " We know there is some genetic contribution to why we eat the foods we eat. Can we take the next step and actually show the exact position of the regions in the genome (基因组)?” A new research led by Cole has gotten a step closer. Through large-scale genomics study, her team found out 48l genome regions that are directly linked to dietary patterns and food preferences. The findings were presented at the American Society for Nutrition's annual flagship conference. They were based on a 2020 Nature Communications study by Cole and her colleagues that used data from the UK Biobank, a public database of the genetic and health information. By scanning genomes, the new analysis was able to home in on 194 regions associated with dietary patterns and 287 linked to specific foods such as fruit, cheese, fish, tea and alcohol." “This study has a huge number of subjects, so that's really powerful,” says Monica Dus, an associate professor at the University of Michigan, who isn't a part of the new research but studies the relationship between genes and nutrition. “The other thing that I think is really great is that they have so many different characteristics that they're measuring in respect to diet. ” As the research advances , Dus says such genome analyses can possibly help health care providers -- and even policy makers -- address larger issues that affect food access and health. " Instead of keeping telling people to eat this or that , a more powerful solution is to link it to making sure there aren't ‘food deserts’ or to making sure that there's a higher minimum wage - things that have a broader impact," she says. 1. What is the purpose of Cole's new research? A. To stress the role of DNA in determining food choices. B. To select genetic parts tightly related to food consumption. C. To find specific regions in the genome related to food preferences. D. To figure out the relationship between genetics and food preferences. 2. What's Paragraph 2 mainly about? A. The process of the study. B. The findings of the study. C. The data source of the study. D. The significance of the study. 3. What does Monica Dus mean in the text? A. The subjects of the study are powerful. B. The research team studies many aspects linked to diet. C. The genome analyses have no prospect in the future. D. People's wage should be increased because of " food deserts" 4. Which of the following can be the best title of the text? A. What You Eat Impacts Your Health B. What You Eat Forms Your Dietary Pattern C. Your Genes May Determine Your Nutritional Needs D. Your Genes May Influence What You Like to Fat 五、七选五 For all of human history, eating meat has meant killing animals. 1. ________ They produce meat by growing cells obtained from an animal's body. Lab-grown meat, also called " cell-cultivated" or "cultured" meat, is made by feeding a mix of nutrients to animal cells in steel tanks in labs. The idea is to create an alternative to agriculturally raised meat. And unlike other meat substitutes (替代物) which are made from plant proteins and other ingredients , lab-grown meat is real meat. 2.________ Recently, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has given two companies approval to sell. It's aimed at removing harm from animals, and reducing the lab-grown chicken.3.________ environmental impacts of grazing (放牧) animals and growing feed for them. "Everything we know about how meat can be made is going to change. But don't expect to see cultivated meat in grocery stores just yet ," said Uma Valeti, CEO of UPSIDE Foods. 4.____________ That's because it cannot yet be produced on the scale of traditional meat. " To make cultivated meat, we need much more energy," said Bruce Friedrich, president and founder of the Good Food Institute. However, those high energy needs will be made up for by the reduction in land and water use and other benefits. It's thought that cultured meat will be probably produced on a large scale. 5.___________ A. Lab-grown meat is much more expensive now. B. When ready, lab-grown meat is formed into shapes. C. The approval launches a new era of meat production. D. It looks, smells and tastes like any other grocery store version. E. But scientists behind lab-grown meat say that's no longer necessary. F.
