Kenji López-Alt The Wok’s appeal is not innovation; you can find many dishes like Kung Pao Shrimp and Cumin Lamb on many Chinese restaurant menus. But you don’t have to leave your home. As far as I’m concerned, it’s worth the sticker price to learn the techniques. Turkey and the Wolf: Flavour Trippin’ in New Orleans by Mason Hereford Chef Mason Hereford has put to paper some of the magic that draws locals and tourists alike to his popular New Orleans sandwich shop, Turkey and the Wolf. The cookbook is full of recipes accessible to home cooks. The meatloaf is my favourite. Mi Cocina: Recipes and Rapture from My Kitchen in Mexico by Rick Martinez With seven sections focused on different regions across the country, Rick Martinez guides you through some of the essential recipes for each. The recipes are lovely, but what I love most are the stories alongside each of them. Food is deeply personal and with Mi Cocina, Martinez is sharing his life in food and inviting you to come along. I Am from Here: Stories and Recipes from a Southern Chef by Vishwesh Bhatt Western India and the Southern US share more culinary (烹饪的) similarities than you’d think, from rice varieties to fresh tomatoes. Here, these ingredients explode in a delicious combination of seasonings and essential cooking techniques. 21. Whose book provides guidance on Chinese cooking? A. Vishwesh Bhatt’s. B. Rick Martinez’s. C. J. Kenji López-Alt’s. D. Mason Hereford’s. 22. Which book is titled after its author’s sandwich shop? A. Turkey and the Wolf. B. The Wok. C. I Am from Here. D. Mi Cocina. 23. What is the similarity between Mi Cocina and I Am from Here? A. They feature Indian and American food. B. They share some stories. C. They emphasize the importance of fresh ingredients. Turkey and the Wolf: Flavour Trippin’ in New Orleans by Mason Hereford的句子“Chef Mason Hereford has put to paper some of the magic that draws locals and tourists alike to his popular New Orleans sandwich shop, Turkey and the Wolf.(厨师梅森·赫里福德将吸引当地人和游客来到他在新奥尔良颇受欢迎的三明治店Turkey and the Wolf的一些神奇之处写了下来。)” 故选A项。 Mi Cocina: Recipes and Rapture from My Kitchen in Mexico by Rick Martinez的句子“The recipes are lovely, but what I love most are the stories alongside each of them.(食谱很可爱,但我最喜欢的是每道菜旁边的故事)”和最后一段标题“I Am from Here: Stories and Recipes from a Southern Chef by Vishwesh Bhatt(《我来自这里:一位南方厨师的故事和食谱》,作者:Vishwesh Bhatt)”可知,Mi Cocina和I Am from Here两本书里都分享了一些故事。故选B项。 B In 2016, when I was on the graduate scheme (计划) at Deutsche Bank, Marie Inafidon, chief executive of Stemettes, who encourages girls to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM), was also working there. I didn’t meet her at the time, but I did read an article about her and her career. Learning at 21 years old about the career of a young black woman’s succeeding in a traditionally white male-dominated industry was one of the most influential things that ever happened to me. It gave me confidence that it was possible to do well in the office and work on personal external project at the same time. Role models can play a central role in shaping a young professional’s career. They are especially important if you belong to an under-represented group for whom a lack of representation in the workplace can lead to feeling isolated and lacking in confidence. They can help those just starting out, whether or not they are a graduate as I was, to believe in their own abilities. There’s a growing need to have accessible role models. Given the tendency to exaggerate (夸大) success stories, hearing from women who talk honestly about the challenges they have faced, either when starting a business or forming a new career path, is much more effective. A study revealed that 70 per cent of girls say they think differently about their futures after hearing from women role models. I’m frequently asked about what businesses could be doing to increase racial diversity in the workplace. A good starting point is to actively promote and support the voices of the people in the organisation that are leading positive change and inspiring others. This makes a real difference. Unlike the tokenism (装样子) I still come across, which results in individuals being made the lone representative for a group without real support from the organisation. Things came full circle for me when I interviewed Ms. Inafidon for my book in 2019. I was able to tell her of the incredible impact her passion and confidence had had on me as a graduate trainee and how grateful I would always be for that. 24. What do we learn about Marie Inafidon? A. She became successful at 21. B. She was a trainee at Deutsche Bank. C. She encouraged girls to take up STEM-related work. D. She helped the author with her external project personally. 25. Who can benefit most from role models in the work place according to the third paragraph? A. Experienced professionals. B. A graduate eager to succeed. C. People without special abilities. D. The young from an under-represented group. 26. What is effective in changing girls’ mindset? A. Taking on challenging projects. B. Reading more made-up success stories. C. Starting their own business as early as possible. D. Listening to women role models share their experiences. 27. What should businesses do to increase racial diversity in the workplace according to the author? A. Encourage positive opinions. B. Make more colored people authorities. C. Include more people of different races. D. Understand the true meaning of tokenism. C 25. D 26. D 27. 根据第一段中的“Marie Inafidon, chief executive of Stemettes, who encourages girls to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM), was also working there. (鼓励女孩从事科学、技术、工程和数学(STEM)职业的Stemettes首席执行官Marie Inafidon也在那里工作。)”可知,Marie Inafidon鼓励女孩从事STEM相关工作。故选C。 【25题详解】 细节理解题。根据第三段中的“Role models can play a central role in shaping a young professional's career. They are especially important if you belong to an under-represented group for whom a lack of representation in the workplace can lead to feeling isolated and lacking in confidence. They can help those just starting out, whether or not they are a graduate as I was, to believe in their own abilities. (榜样可以在塑造年轻专业人士的职业生涯中发挥核心作用。如果你属于一个代表性不足的群体,在工作场所缺乏代表性会导致你感到孤立和缺乏信心,那么它们尤其重要。他们可以帮助那些刚起步的人,无论他们是否像我一样毕业,相信自己的能力。)”可知,来自代表性不足群体的年轻人能从工作场所的榜样中受益最大。故选D。 【26题详解】 细节理解题。根据第四段中的“Given the tendency to exaggerate (夸大) success stories, hearing from women who talk honestly about the challenges they have faced, either when starting a business or forming a new career path, is much more effective. A study revealed that 70 per cent of girls say they think differently about their futures after hearing from women role models. (我经常被问到企业可以做些什么来增加工作场所的种族多样性。一个好的起点是积极促进和支持组织中领导积极变革和激励他人的人们的声音。)”可知,企业应该鼓励积极的意见来增加工作场所的种族多样性。故选A。 C Extremely authentic-looking prosthetic (假体的) eyes can now be 3D-printed in a fraction of the time it would normally take to produce the eyes by hand, scientists demonstrate in a new study. The new technology can create a prosthetic eye in just 90 minutes, compared with the eight hours it would normally take a skilled technician, or ocularist, to produce one by hand. The 3D-printed eyes require five times less labour to make than traditional methods, the scientists behind the technology wrote in a new paper published in the journal Nature Communications. The 3D-printed eyes also look more natural than traditional prostheses; this could help improve a patient’s self-confidence in using the devices. “Patients are very conscious about wearing a prosthesis, and they don’t want others to notice,”Johann Reinhard, lead study author and a researcher at the Fraunhofer Institute for Computer Graphics Research in Germany, told us. “With these more realistic eyes, it might help them to participate more in society,” he said. The new printing approach involves taking a specialized image of a patient’s empty eye socket (眼窝) and of their healthy eye. These images are then processed and used to draft blueprints that can be sent to be 3D-printed in the lab. These 3D-printed eyes closely replicate the colour, size and structure of the patient’s healthy eye and are particularly good at capturing the coloured part of the eye, known as the iris, and the white part of the eye, called the sclera. Once finished, the eyes take 15 to 30 minutes to be installed by an ocularist, Reinhard said. “About 80% of adults in need of prosthetic eyes could theoretically have one made this way, either due to a birth defect that causes an eye to be small or missing or because they’ve lost an eye,” the team said. “However, this wouldn’t be possible for all patients, such as those who have a very complex eye socket, as the software wouldn’t be able to find a matching shape for the prosthetic eye,” Reinhard said. “More data are needed to see if this technique could also be used to make prosthetic eyes for children, which would require more regulation,” Reinhard said. 28. Which of the following can best describe the 3D-printed eyes? A. Time-consuming. B. Eco-friendly. C. Realistic-looking. D. Fit-of-all. 29. How does the author develop his idea in Paragraph 2? A. By giving examples. B. By justifying an idea. C. By making a comparison. D. By providing evidence. 30. What can we know about a 3D-printed eye? A. Every adult in need of a prosthetic eye can’t possibly have one. B. The patients prefer to show off their prosthetic eyes. C. The installment of one is 5 times faster than a traditional prosthetic eye. D. It normally takes a skilled technician, or ocularist, to produce one. 31. Which of the following is the best title for the text? A. 3D Printing—a Promising Technology B. 3D-printed Eyes—a Better Alternative C. Prosthetic Eyes—the Hope for all Blind People D. 3D-printed Eyes—a Source of Confidence 【答案】28. C 29. C 30. A 31. 根据第三段“The 3D-printed eyes also look more natural than traditional prostheses; this could help improve a patient’s self-confidence in using the devices.(3D 打印的眼睛看起来也比传统的义眼更自然;这可以帮助提高患者使用这些设备的自信心。)” 根据第二段“The new technology can create a prosthetic eye in just 90 minutes, compared with the eight hours it would normally take a skilled technician, or ocularist, to produce one by hand. The 3D-printed eyes require five times less labour to make than traditional methods, the scientists behind the technology wrote in a new paper published in the journal Nature Communications.(这项新技术只需 90 分钟就能制造出一个义眼,而一个熟练的技术人员或眼科医生通常需要8个小时才能手工制作出一个义眼。开发这项技术的科学家在《自然・通讯》杂志上发表的一篇新论文中写道,3D打印的义眼制作所需的劳动力比传统方法少五倍。)”可知,作者通过将3D打印义眼和传统手工制作义眼在制作时间和劳动力方面进行比较来展开观点。故选C。 【30题详解】 推理判断题。根据倒数第二段“‘About 80% of adults in need of prosthetic eyes could theoretically have one made this way, either due to a birth defect that causes an eye to be small or missing or because they’ve lost an eye,’the team said. ‘However, this wouldn’t be possible for all patients, such as those who have a very complex eye socket, as the software wouldn’t be able to find a matching shape for the prosthetic eye,’ Reinhard said.(该团队表示:‘理论上,约80%需要义眼的成年人可以通过这种方式制作义眼,原因可能是导致眼睛变小或缺失的先天性缺陷,或者是因为他们失去了一只眼睛。’莱因哈德说:‘然而,这对所有患者来说是不可能的,比如那些眼窝非常复杂的患者,因为软件无法为义眼找到匹配的形状。’)”可知,不是每个需要义眼的成年人都能拥有3D打印的义眼。故选A。 通读全文特别是第一段“Extremely authentic-looking prosthetic (假体的) eyes can now be 3D-printed in a fraction of the time it would normally take to produce the eyes by hand, scientists demonstrate in a new study.(科学家在一项新的研究中证明,现在可以在手工制作眼睛通常所需时间的一小部分时间内3D打印出非常逼真的假眼。)” 所以B项3D-printed Eyes—a Better Alternative(3D打印眼睛——更好的选择)符合语境。故选B。 D One bird may not make a summer but seeing or hearing birds does improve mental wellbeing, a ground-breaking study in the journal Scientific Reports has found. Researchers tracked 1,292 participants’ everyday encounters with birds last year via a smartphone app called Urban Mind. Over the course of two weeks, the participants, from the UK, Europe, the US, China and Australia, were asked every two hours to document how they were feeling, including whether they were happy or stressed. The researchers found that participants’ average mental wellbeing scores increased when they saw or heard birds, including among those who said they had been diagnosed (诊断) with depression. Andrea Mechelli, professor of early intervention (干涉) in mental health at King’s College London, said that the positive effect of bird encounters on people with depression was significant because many “interventions that help so-called ‘healthy people’ don’t work for individuals with mental health issues”. Mechelli said, “We know exercise makes everyone feel better. But it’s so challenging to motivate someone with depression to exercise, while contact with bird life is something that, perhaps, is feasible.” Adrian Thomas, the author of the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds’ Guide to Birdsong, said the report’s findings came as no surprise as most people described their reaction to birdsong as joy. He added, “Birdsong would have once been the natural soundtrack to all human lives, and I do think that it is rooted somewhere deep within us. It is related with spring and good times coming, which is just one of the reasons why we need to appreciate the role of birds in our life and ensure that nature.” 32. What were the participants asked to do? A. Keep record of moods. B. Keep track of birds. C. Analyze feeling changes. D. Report health issues. 33. What does the underline word “feasible” mean in Paragraph 4? A. Inspiring. B. Practicable. C. Ineffective. D. Measurable. 34. What does the last paragraph mainly talk about? A. A reasonable doubt to the research question. B. Potential application of the research results. C. A further explanation of the research findings. D. Detailed descriptions of the research process. 35. Which of the following may the research contribute to? A. Stress relief methods. B. Bird watching activity. C. Mental health treatment. D. Bird protection campaign. A 33. B 34. C 35. 根据第二段“Over the course of two weeks, the participants, from the UK, Europe, the US, China and Australia, were asked every two hours to document how they were feeling, including whether they were happy or stressed.(在两周的时间里,来自英国、欧洲、美国、中国和澳大利亚的参与者被要求每两小时记录一次他们的感受,包括他们是否开心或有压力。)” 故选A。 根据第四段“We know exercise makes everyone feel better. But it’s so challenging to motivate someone with depression to exercise, while contact with bird life is something that, perhaps, is feasible.(我们知道锻炼能让每个人感觉更好。但要激励抑郁症患者去锻炼是非常具有挑战性的,而与鸟类接触这件事,也许是feasible。)”可知,让抑郁症患者锻炼很难,但与鸟类接触是可行的,所以feasible意思是“可行的”。故选B。 【34题详解】 主旨大意题。根据最后一段“Adrian Thomas, the author of the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds’ Guide to Birdsong, said the report’s findings came as no surprise as most people described their reaction to birdsong as joy. He added, ‘Birdsong would have once been the natural soundtrack to all human lives, and I do think that it is rooted somewhere deep within us. It is related with spring and good times coming, which is just one of the reasons why we need to appreciate the role of birds in our life and ensure that nature.’(英国皇家鸟类保护协会《鸟鸣指南》的作者阿德里安・托马斯表示,这份报告的发现并不令人惊讶,因为大多数人都把他们对鸟鸣的反应描述为愉悦。他补充说:‘鸟鸣曾经是所有人生活的自然背景音乐,我确实认为它深深植根于我们内心的某个地方。它与春天和美好时光的到来有关,这只是我们需要欣赏鸟类在我们生活中的作用并保护自然的原因之一。’)”可知,最后一段是对研究结果(看到或听到鸟类能改善心理健康)的进一步解释,说明鸟鸣对人类的意义。故选C。 【35题详解】 推理判断题。根据第三段“The researchers found that participants’ average mental wellbeing scores increased when they saw or heard birds, including among those who said they had been diagnosed (诊断) with depression.(研究人员发现,当参与者看到或听到鸟类时,他们的平均心理健康得分会提高,包括那些被诊断患有抑郁症的人。)” Sports is getting its increasing popularity among teens. At the front door, I dug around in my pockets for the keys, only to realize that I had lost them. As all of them are tied together including my car key, I decided to return to the paths we’d taken. I spent an hour looking, brushing aside tall grasses, but the keys remained lost. I was beginning to get upset as I thought of the consequences of losing them, so I continued to retrace (折返) our steps, but the result was disappointing. Back home again, I pulled the backup key from its hiding place, let myself in the house, and fell on the chair in exhaustion The house key wasn’t that important as I had an extra. I had a spare car key, but there was often something wrong with it, and the key would be expensive to replace. The iron heart made by my grandson was precious beyond measure. Thinking of it being gone forever made tears come to my eyes. That night, it turned colder and we had a snow. Suddenly I heard the noise of my car alarm from the garage (车库). I rushed to the car, put the extra key into the door and finally opened it, and then I hurriedly tried my best to stop the alarm. I felt red-faced as I imagined my next-door neighbours being disturbed and annoyed. I went back in the house but the alarm started again. I turned it off, went back inside, and the alarm sounded again. I repeated the process. Back in the house, I waited, but the next sound was the front doorbell. Thinking it was a neighbour ready to complain at me, I opened the door cautiously(谨慎地). To my surprise, in the light snow stood three neighbours from several streets away. The warmth and kindness radiating from their smiles instantly melted (融化) away any sadness I had felt earlier. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Feeling grateful and relieved, I invited them inside for some hot tea. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】One possible version: The warmth and kindness radiating from their smiles instantly melted(融化)away any sadness I had felt earlier. With one of their gloved hand extended, I could see my keys hanging from a pointer finger like a small victory trophy. Overwhelmed with gratitude, I couldn’t help but embrace them tightly, conveying my deepest appreciation. Words failed me for a moment as I repeated, “Oh, my goodness! Thank you!” They explained that they had noticed my key’s alarm button and used it to locate my home. The joy of knowing that they had spared no effort to track down my keys filled my heart with a connection to my neighbourhood. Feeling grateful and relieved, I invited them inside for some hot tea. As we sat around the fireplace, they shared stories of how the community came together in times of need. I felt a renewed sense of security knowing that I had not only found my keys but also discovered the true value of having caring neighbours. From that day on, we started hosting monthly gatherings where we talked about not only safety but also other matters of common interest. We created a sense of belonging and support, knowing that we have reliable neighbours who are willing to actively contribute to the well-being and security of our community. 词汇激活 行为类 ①伸出:extend/stretch out ②追踪:track down/locate ③举办:host/organize 情感类 ①感激:gratitude/appreciation ②高兴:joy/delight/happiness 【点睛】【高分句型1】With one of their gloved hand extended, I could see my keys hanging from a pointer finger like a small victory trophy.(运用了“with +宾语+宾补”结构作状语) 【高分句型2】As we sat around the fireplace, they shared stories of how the community came together in times of need.(运用了as引导的时间状语从句以及how引导的宾语从句) 【高分句型3】From that day on, we started hosting monthly gatherings where we talked about not only safety but also other matters of common interest.(运用了where引导的定语从句) 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$ 高二期中考试 英语 全卷满分150分,考试时间120分钟。 How much is the shirt? D. They stress food’s role in connecting cultures. B In 2016, when I was on the graduate scheme (计划) at Deutsche Bank, Marie Inafidon, chief executive of Stemettes, who encourages girls to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM), was also working there. Things came full circle for me when I interviewed Ms Inafidon for my book in 2019. C Extremely authentic-looking prosthetic (假体的) eyes can now be 3D-printed in a fraction of the time it would normally take to produce the eyes by hand, scientists demonstrate in a new study. 3D-printed Eyes—a Source of Confidence D One bird may not make a summer but seeing or hearing birds does improve mental wellbeing, a ground-breaking study in the journal Scientific Reports has found. The researchers found that participants’ average mental wellbeing scores increased when they saw or heard birds including among those who said they had been diagnosed (诊断) with depression. A Inspiring. B. Practicable. C. Ineffective. D. Measurable. 34. What does the last paragraph mainly talk about? A. A reasonable doubt to the research question. B. Potential application of the research results. C. A further explanation of the research findings. D. Detailed descriptions of the research process. 35. Which of the following may the research contribute to? A. Stress relief methods. B. Bird watching activity. C. Mental health treatment. D. Bird protection campaign. Sports is getting its increasing popularity among teens.
