二、经典读后续写话题
1.战胜自我
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
The new term began, and our class welcomed Tom, a boy with a warm smile. Assigned as my deskmate, I quickly noticed his disciplined study habits—his notebooks were filled with color-coded notes, and he never missed a deadline.
By the third day, he already knew everyone’s names. During breaks, his desk was always full of friends. One rainy day, he used erasers and rulers to make a small soccer field on his desk. ”Goal!” he whispered when a button rolled into a pencil box. The boys around him tried hard not to laugh loudly. Girls also liked watching him make paper animals—jumping frogs and paper roses from red exam papers.
Despite his popularity, Tom always avoided one thing—swimming. That summer’s heatwave was unbearable. By mid-June, even the classroom fans groaned under the burden of humidity. When our classmates proposed a swim in the willow-shaded river behind the school, cheers erupted.
As others splashed into the water, I glanced back. Tom wandered under a tree, gazing at the sky. “Come on, Tom! The water’s perfect!” I called. He shook his head. “I…never learned to swim,” he mumbled (含糊地说).
Days passed, and his excuses grew odder: the water was too cold, he had homework, or he simply “wasn’t in the mood.” Yet, his eyes gave away longing. One evening, I found him alone by the riverbank, lost in thought. “You okay?” I asked. Surprised, he hesitated before rolling up his T-shirt sleeve. A jagged scar (伤疤) ran down his shoulder.
“I got this in a bike accident when I was six. One rainy afternoon, my bike slipped on wet roads, crashing into a rusty metal fence. My left arm got trapped, tearing deep cuts. Doctors used twenty stitches to close the wounds. When healed, a silvery scar remained, shaped like a lightning bolt across the skin. Kids used to call me ‘Frankenstein.’ I hate people staring,” he explained, voice trembling.

My heart ached and I decided to act. I told our classmates about Tom’s story. They were deeply touched and we planned a surprise for him. After school, we led Tom to the river. I said, “Tom, we don’t care about the scar. It’s just a part of you. We want to help you learn to swim.” With encouragement from all of us, he stepped into the water nervously. We patiently showed him the basic movements. Every time he made progress, we cheered loudly.
Before the sports festival, Tom had mastered freestyle. When the swimming event was announced, he signed up without hesitation. On the big day, he dived into the water smoothly. His strong strokes carried him forward. The audience cheered. As he reached the finish line, we rushed to hug him. Tom’s face beamed with pride. That scar, once a source of shame, now seemed like a mark of his courage and victory.
2.人和自然——人和动物和谐相处
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
In a quiet mountain village between snowy peaks, 16-year-old Mia found a young snow leopard cub (雪豹幼崽) caught in an old metal trap during her afternoon walk. The cub’s leg was badly hurt, and its golden eyes shone with fear under the pale winter sun.
Though her father had repeatedly warned her about the dangers of wild animals, Mia couldn’t bear to leave the suffering creature. Carefully, she used her woolen scarf to open the trap, freeing the cub. She named it Amber and placed dried meat from her lunch bag nearby, hoping to give it strength. To her amazement, Amber returned the next morning, limping (跛的) but alive, its eyes now filled with cautious curiosity.
Over the following weeks, Amber began appearing during Mia’ s daily walks in the pine forests. At first, the cub kept a safe distance. Slowly, trust grew between them. Mia shared her sandwiches, while Amber guided her to secret paths leading to clear streams and sheltered caves. Their bond deepened — Amber would rub its head against Mia’ s leg like a pet cat, and Mia learned to recognize the cub’s different calls.
However, everything changed one evening at sunset. Mia’ s father discovered Amber near their sheep fences. “That wild beast will kill our sheep!” he shouted angrily, grabbing a thick wooden stick. Mia screamed, “She’s my friend! Please don’t hurt her!” Sensing danger, Amber ran into the shadowy forest, leaving Mia standing frozen with tears.
Heartbroken, Mia searched the mountains tirelessly. Every morning before school, she left meat near their favorite meeting spot — a flat rock beneath a giant pine tree. Every afternoon, she wandered through icy valleys calling Amber’s name. Weeks passed, but the cub never reappeared. The mountains felt emptier, their silence broken only by the lonely wind. Mia’ s doubts grew heavier — had her kindness driven Amber into greater danger? Was it possible for humans and wild animals to truly trust each other? Snow began to fall again, covering the paths. The wilderness offered no answers, only the rushing wind.

【参考范文】
One stormy night, Mia heard a weak cry coming from the edge of the forest. Ignoring the coldness, she followed the sound and found Amber, her injured leg bloody. Without hesitation, Mia carried the poor cub home. Her father stood at the doorway, his angry expression softening as he saw the dying cub and the anxiety in his daughter’ s eyes. Together, they cleaned the injury and fed her warm milk. For days, Amber rested by the fireplace until her strength returned. One dawn, Mia opened the door. Amber glanced back and then disappeared into the forest.
When spring arrived, a familiar shadow appeared under the giant pine tree. Amber stood there, healthy and tall, with sunlight shining on her body. She approached Mia, rubbing its head against Mia’ s leg gently — a gesture unchanged since their first meeting. Mia’ s father watched from afar, his earlier anger replaced by quiet awe. “She remembers,” he murmured. As Amber walked away, Mia smiled. She realized that true kindness involves care and respect. Humans and nature aren’t masters and servants, but neighbors sharing one precious world.
3.不要以貌取人
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
More than 20 years ago, Virginia Squier accompanied a group of middle school students on a tour of England. She brought along her daughter, Chambers, who was 8 years old at the time.
One evening, near the end of the visit, Squier, her daughter and the school group were on a platform in the London Underground getting ready to head to their next destination. It was 5 p.m. and the station was packed. Squier took hold of Chambers’ hand and began counting her students. Just then, a train pulled up to the platform.
Suddenly, Squier’s daughter let go of her hand and, without warning, jumped on the train out of curiosity as it was about to depart. The doors began to close immediately, trapping Chambers inside. Squier ran alongside the train, her heart pounding in her chest. As the train gathered speed, she tried to force the door open by digging her fingers into the black rubber gasket (垫圈) but failed. On the other side of the glass, she could see her daughter’s panicky face.
The last thing Squier saw before the train pulled out of the station was Chambers crying and pounding her small fists against the glass. Behind her, a young man dressed in black leather with a dog collar (颈圈) around his neck rose from his seat and started moving toward Chambers. At that moment, Squier’s mind raced with fear and assumptions. She couldn’t help but think the worst: “What if he’s dangerous? What if he harms my daughter?” She imagined all the terrible things that could happen to Chambers alone on that train with a stranger who looked so terrifying
Frightened, Squier searched for an employee. However, the man she found was not a native English speaker, which made explaining her situation difficult. Squier, shocked and too frightened to cry, was focusing on getting the man to understand her desire for help when suddenly one of her students appeared at her shoulder. “She’s back,” the student said.

Squier turned around and saw Chambers running towards her. Relief flooded over her as she swept her daughter into her arms, tears streaming down her face. Chambers, still trembling, explained that the young man in black leather had comforted her, telling her not to be afraid. He even offered her his seat and kept an eye on her until the next stop, where he made sure she got off safely and found a station employee to help her reunite with the group. Squier couldn’t believe her ears. She had been so quick to judge the young man based on his appearance, yet he had turned out to be a kind-hearted stranger.
Reflecting on the situation, Squier felt ashamed of her initial judgement. She realized that one should never judge a book by its cover. The young man’s appearance had misled her, and she had let her fears get the better of her. She vowed to be more open-minded and understanding in the future, not to let stereotypes cloud her judgment. From that day on, whenever she met someone who looked different or had an unconventional appearance, she would remind herself of this incident and treat them with kindness and respect, just as that young man had treated her daughter.
4.为梦想而战
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
I first thought about becoming a policeman when I was 4½ years old. On my first day of school, my teacher, Mrs. See took me by the hand, and invited me to enter a world that would ultimately see me reach a goal set during those early years. Although I loved art and music, it was a 6-inch wooden toy figure that impacted me the most those first few months.
Each day, as the rest time arrived, Mrs. See asked each of us to pick up a small mat and place it on the floor. We were then told to lie down, close our eyes, and rest. As the noise died away, we were told that, after resting, we would have an opportunity to play with the large wooden blocks and wooden doll-like figures that sat on a long shelf against the back wall.
I remembered eyeing the blocks and dolls, and when I did, I immediately noticed something that caught my attention. It was a beautifully crafted figure whose arms and legs were movable, and it had a painted-on bright blue uniform with a policeman’s badge on its chest. When I first saw that doll on the shelf, I knew that I had to get it first.
So, when the rest time ended, I rushed straight to the wooden figures and grabbed the policeman! Holding him in my hands, I somehow knew that he represented what I wanted to be when I grew up!
As the years passed, I never lost sight of my goal. When the time arrived and I was qualified to begin testing for the Los Angeles Police Department, I eagerly began the process.
I easily passed the written examination and scored high on the oral interview. However, when it came to the physical examination, I hit a roadblock. Not long after my physical examination, I received a letter advising me that I was over the weight limit and therefore disqualified from employment on the department. The letter further advised me that my condition could be improved.

Armed with that information, I began to lose enough weight. To achieve my goal more efficiently, I consulted a nutritionist and a fitness coach. After that, I strictly followed a balanced diet and regularly exercised daily, running in the mornings and doing physical training in the evenings. Meanwhile, I sacrificed late-night snacks and early morning sleep. Though the process was tough, the image of the little wooden policeman kept me motivated. With a rigid effort, I managed to lose enough weight to be within the required height and weight requirements.
After two months of regular exercise and dieting, I again appeared for a physical examination. Confident and well-prepared, I completed the physical examination. When the results came out, I held my breath, with my heart pounding in my chest. To my great relief and joy, I had successfully met the physical requirements. My hard work had paid off. I was finally qualified to join the Los Angeles Police Department. The moment I put on the real blue uniform, my childhood dream flashed before my eyes — the wooden policeman doll, Mrs. See’s encouraging smile, and my firm determination. I realized dreams are like seeds planted in childhood, nurtured by perseverance.
5.团队意识——合作同赢

The Do-It-Yourself Disaster
“Who wants to show us their special project first?” Mrs. Williams asked the whole class. For this project, we were allowed to do anything, as long as we did it ourselves.
I shrank into my sweater as usual, silently begging, Don’t call on me. Don’t call on me. Around me, hands shot up like popcorn. The more others leaned forward, the deeper I sank.
“Michael, your project, please.” My name rang as loud as the fire alarm. I hadn’t even lifted a finger! My hiding trick didn’t work.
I walked to the front of the class on shaky legs and set my birdhouse on the table. “This is how to build a birdhouse,” I began, my throat tight. “Look at your audience, Michael,” Mrs. Williams reminded me from the back of the room. I took a deep breath and started again. “I looked online for plans and went to the lumberyard (木料场) with my dad. Someone there helped cut the walls and drilled the hole.” I turned the birdhouse to show all four sides.
Luka’s hand shot up. We were supposed to take questions if anyone had them. Luka was my friend, but he always asked a billion questions. I just wanted to finish and sit down.
“So if someone at the lumberyard cut the wood and made the hole, and your dad drove you there, what did you do?” he asked.
My throat felt even tighter. “This was my idea,” I rushed to explain. “At the lumberyard, I told the workers exactly how to cut the wood. And see this?” I flipped open the roof. “I made it open and shut with these metal clips (夹子), so I can clean out the house after the birds leave.” Some kids stood up to see. “Then I nailed all the walls together.” I picked up the heavy hammer (榔头) I had bought. I had left one of the nails sticking out a little so I could demonstrate.
Spotting Luka watching, I gave the nail a powerful hit. The hammer came down on the roof instead of the nail. Crash! The roof caved in. The sides bent. The birdhouse landed in a noisy mess at my feet.

【参考范文】
The crash echoed into total stillness. For a moment, I stood frozen, staring at the broken pieces. Then, I noticed the clips still holding the roof in place. I carefully flipped open the roof, removed it completely, and used the metal clips to hold the side walls steady. It looked perfect for a feeder. A few kids leaned in to get a better look. Luka whispered, “That’s actually pretty smart.” I pointed to my new work, “See? I just wanted to show how to build a birdhouse — and how to turn it into a feeder.”
At the sight of the bird feeder, the class cheered and clapped. Mrs. Williams patted me on the shoulder, nodding with a smile. “That’s the spirit of do-it-yourself — Creativity!” she said. I felt my ears burn — but not from embarrassment this time. It wasn’t the project I planned, but I had figured it out myself. Maybe it wasn’t perfect, but it was mine. Maybe that’s what doing it yourself really means.
范文2:
The crash echoed into total stillness. I stared at the pieces, not knowing what to do, depressed and embarrassed. At that time, Luka jumped up and joined me. “Wait,” he said, “you can still save this.” He gently pulled off the roof and stood the sides back up. “Look — it’s like a feeder now. The birds can land right here.” He clipped the metal pieces together to hold it steady. I helped him balance the back wall. When we stepped back, it looked simple but kind of cool.
At the sight of the bird feeder, the class cheered and clapped. Mrs. Williams smiled. “Sometimes the best part of a project is teamwork.” I looked at Luka, and he grinned back. A few classmates gave us thumbs-up. One kid whispered, “That’s way cooler than just a birdhouse.” I hadn’t finished the project the way I planned, but we had made something new — together. I didn’t feel like I’d failed. I felt like I belonged. Maybe “do it yourself” didn’t have to mean “do it alone.”
范文3:
The crash echoed into total stillness. I stood frozen, face burning. Mrs. Williams walked up and examined the pieces of the broken birdhouse. “Maybe it’s time to think outside the box,” she said. “What if you turned it into a bird feeder?” I looked down at the pieces. The roof was still hanging on by the clips. Slowly, I opened it, then took it off. “I could use those clips to hold the sides up,” Mrs. Williams nodded. Without the roof, it looked open — a perfect little feeder. A few classmates leaned forward, curious. Someone whispered, “Brilliant!”
At the sight of the bird feeder, the class cheered and clapped. Mrs. Williams smiled. “Good work — real creativity often starts with a failure,” she said. I hadn’t made what I set out to build, but maybe that didn’t matter. Sometimes plans fall apart, and something new takes shape instead. Looking at the open, lopsided feeder, I felt oddly proud. It wasn’t perfect, but it was mine — and it worked. Maybe the best part of this project wasn’t just about building. Instead, it was about learning to think, to try, and to keep going.
6.自我感悟
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
I loved nothing more than fishing. The summer after fourth grade, I’d head out to the pond with my pole every day. I didn’t keep the fish I caught. I set them free instead. I simply enjoyed the excitement of catching a big fish.
One afternoon, I came running home, bursting with excitement. “I caught the biggest fish ever today!” I announced. “It was this big!” I stretched my hands apart carefully, giving my family the length from nose to tail. Tommy, my older brother, didn’t believe me. “You caught a fish that big in a pond that small?” he said. “I think someone is exaggerating (夸大其词) a little bit. No picture, no fish.”
“It’s not a lie,” I said loudly and stomped upstairs. Mum followed me to my bedroom, trying to cheer me up. “Sometimes it’s hard for people to believe things they haven’t seen with their own eyes,” she said. “But why should the fish have to die so other people will believe me?” I replied.
A few days later, Mum bought me a camera to take to the pond. Never once, however, did I manage to take a picture of my fish. I just couldn’t get the camera out of my bag in time. “Sure you couldn’t!” Tommy would jokingly say over and over. “Just admit it. No picture, no fish.”
On the last day of summer vacation, I caught an even bigger fish. I was lying on the bank looking up at the clouds when I felt a tug on my line. I really had to wrestle with it. With my other hand I tried to find my camera. I felt all around my bag and even turned it out on the bank. But the camera wasn’t in my bag! “No picture, no fish!” Tommy’s words started echoing in my head, making me even more anxious.

I decided to bring the fish back to show Tommy. I carefully lifted the fish out of the water and held it tightly in my hands. As I walked home, I imagined the look on Tommy's face when he saw the huge fish. When I got home, I found Tommy in the living room. “Look!” I shouted, proudly presenting the fish. Tommy's eyes widened in surprise. “Okay, you were right,” he said. But then I noticed the fish was not moving. Panic struck me. I quickly ran back to the pond with the fish.
What a relief to see the fish alive in the pond! I gently lowered the fish into the water and watched as it swam away. I realized that the most important thing wasn't proving Tommy wrong, but rather the joy of fishing and the beauty of nature. From then on, I still went fishing every summer, but I never cared about taking pictures or proving anything to anyone. I just enjoyed the peaceful time by the pond and the thrill of catching fish.

Joel Boyers is an experienced pilot in an air service company. One day he and his wife Melody Among were heading home from the Nashville airport after she earned her helicopter’s pilot license when he received an emergency call from a stranger in Pennsylvania. The caller told Boyers that her daughter was trapped on a roof near a gas station in Waverly,60 miles from Nashville. She was surrounded by rising floodwaters caused by August’s record-shattering mins and didn’t think she would survive.
Desperate, the caller had Googled “Nashville helicopters,” and Boyers’ company, Helistar Aviation, was the first to appear. She begged, Could Boyers please, please rescue her beloved daughter? She added that her daughter Lily was only nine! She wore a red sweater.
Boyers,41, looked west toward Waverly and saw the storm clouds. “Madam,” he said, “no one will fly in this weather, and for good reason.”
But even before he finished the sentence, Boyers knew he would go back up. “I’ve got a daughter myself,” Boyers comforted the desperate mother, “I will try my best.” He put the girl’s address into his phone, then he and Among drove back to the airport. Soon, they were in the air, unprepared for what they were about to see in Waverly.
As soon as Boyers suddenly emerged over the hilltop, it was nothing but angry water below. There were two houses on fire. Cars in trees. Tons of debris (碎片). People were clinging to anything that didn’t move — roofs, trees, poles.
The flooding, also took out cell phone service, meaning Boyers couldn’t use his phone to pinpoint (精准定位) the house he was looking for. He flew on anyway. Maybe he’d get lucky.
Outside the rain beat the windscreen as he flew, making everything unclear. Below, streets had turned into fast-moving water, swallowing cars and trees. For twenty painful minutes, he circled the flooded town, the searchlight cutting through the darkness. Suddenly, on the roof near a half-flooded gas station, a girl in red came into his eyes. It must be Lily.

Boyers began to fly as close as possible to Lily. Fighting against the roaring wind, he steadied the helicopter above the roof. Down swung the rescue rope ladder, which Lily desperately grabbed with frozen hands. Just as she hooked herself to the ladder, Among lowered herself and reached for Lily, then she seized her hand and helped her up inside the helicopter. Once Lily was out of danger, the couple let out a sigh of relief. Inside, Lily, sitting on the floor shaking, couldn’t believe that she was safe now. She hugged the couple tightly, tears of gratitude rolling down her face.
Finally Lily was safely delivered to her mother. At the sight of her daughter, the mother rushed forward and tightly embraced her. “Thank you, you are heroes!” The mother exclaimed to the couple, tears streaming down her cheeks. Boyers murmured, “What truly matters is that we’re all standing here, safe and sound.” The setting sun broke through the dark clouds, painting golden light on their wet clothes. Though disasters brought destruction, human kindness always shone brightest in darkness, connecting hearts and rebuilding hope.

I was on a tour of France with my friends when our car pulled to a stop at the beach and we saw the Mediterranean Sea. Massive waves surged against large rocks that formed a waterproof jetty (防波堤) . This beach was known for its notorious rip currents. I shivered with fear though I was a good swimmer.
“Jason, are you coming? ” my friend Matt called.
“Yeah, just enjoying the view. ” I said. Suddenly I heard shouting in French. A mob of people were running into the sea fully clothed. I glimpsed something moving up and down amid the waves past the end of the jetty. That’s a little boy out there! The would-be rescuers fought against the tide. With the water’s drag, they’d never get to him in time.
The boy’s head popped up, then a wave crashed over him and he disappeared for a moment. He was close to the jetty; maybe I could help from there. I raced down the beach out onto the jetty and it hit me: Water! My palms got sweaty and my stomach felt sick.
The people in the water had underestimated the waves and weren’t making any progress. I was the only one who saw that going out on the jetty was the fastest way to reach the drowning boy. Yet in the midst of this tragedy, I was extremely terrified. I tried to remember the lifeguard training I’d had as a teenager.
I was paralyzed with fear, but I forced myself to move forward with this occasional rescue. I didn’t want this. Surely someone else could save him before I had to. How I hoped that I’d see an athletic swimmer plowing through the rough water toward the boy. To my disappointment, no one was there. I turned back out to the sea to see the boy battered by vicious waves about 25 yards away from me.

Sucking in a deep breath, I threw myself into the water. As soon as I jumped in, salt stung my eyes. Focus I shouted in my head. Where was he? Then with clarity, I saw a thin arm waving weakly a few yards away. I swam with all my strength reaching the boy just as he sank below the surface. I grabbed his arm and pulled. He popped back up eyes wide with terror, pawing and twisting against me. “Repose (Calm down) ! ” I commanded the boy in French. His struggling would derail any rescue attempt and we’d both perish. “Repose! ” I commanded again. Thankfully, this time he listened and was still.
When I turned back toward shore, a wave pounded over us. The jetty was further away! The rip current! It was forcibly dragging us out to the sea. I fought to get us back to land but made little progress. Desperate to survive, I remembered what I’d learned in my life saving class: swim sideways to the pull of the current. It was an odd-looking but practicable solution. We swam sideways and floated to rest. We did that over and over, making our way to safety slowly. “Jason, you can do it! ” With these words, Matt also jumped into the water. I hadn’t even noticed how close we were, only about seven feet left to go. Together, we carried the boy to the jetty. His mother held him into her arms tightly. I looked out to the sea. Weary as I was, the water had never looked so beautiful.

Recently I graduated from high school. The afternoon sun warmed my graduation cap as I stared at the mountain of flowers crowding my room-bunches of flowers from family and friends, forty to be exact! Roses, daisies, and lilies spilled across every surface, their sweet scent overwhelming. “How will I ever…” My thought was interrupted by sudden giggles.
Six-year-old Sue and seven-year-old Mike exploded into the room, eyes widening at the floral jungle. “Auntie, are you opening a flower shop?” Mike asked, poking a sunflower taller than himself. Sue pressed her nose into a pink rose, sneezing dramatically.
An idea bloomed. “Let’s give these to strangers!” I announced. The kids froze mid-giggle. “Why?” Sue frowned. “To grow smiles,” I explained, showing them blank cards. “We’ll write nice notes!” Cheerful creativity followed. Mike’s cards read “SMILE!!” in colourful capitals, while Sue drew rainbow hearts. We tied them to the flowers’ stems with ribbons.
Our first target stood at the park entrance-Officer Martinez, who was directing traffic, Sue dashed forward. “Flower for you!” she shouted, stretching her tiny arm upward. The officer’s stern face melted into a sunrise smile. “Made my day, kiddo,” he said, pinning the daisy to his uniform.
Next, we approached Mr. Thompson, our grumpy bus driver. “Flower for making our rides safe!” Mike declared. The man’s coffee-stained mustache twitched. “Kids these days…” he muttered, placing the lily carefully beside his timetable.
By noon, our basket neared empty. Thirty-eight flowers had found homes-a tired bus driver, a lonely bench-sitter, a laughing child and so on. It was lunch time and we went to Subway for lunch. There the kids gave a flower to the waitress, a girl with blue-streaked hair, held her breath when Sue offered the flower. “For me? Nobody’s ever gave me a flower!” Her voice cracked as she tucked it behind her ear. As we were eating our lunch, the waitress came up to the kids with two big chocolate cookies! “For the flower angles,” she grinned. The kids’ eyes lit brighter than their cookie sprinkles. As they ate the cookies, “Best cookies ever!” Sue and Mike exclaimed with the biggest smiles I had ever seen.

With just one flower left, I said it should be given to the person who needed it most. Just then, my nephew caught sight of an old woman in a wheelchair nearby. “I think she’s the very person for the flower. She lives a hard life because of bad health. She needs smiles most,” said my nephew. With these words, my nephew, followed by my niece, took the flower up to her. You can imagine how happy the old woman looked! She smiled, and gave each of the kids a big kiss.
It turned out to be a great day for us. We spread a lot of smiles by giving out flowers, and received a lot of smiles in return. The flowers not only made us feel good about ourselves, but also made 40 other people feel happy. I feel there is nothing more enjoyable than being friendly to people. Meanwhile, the kids learned an important lesson in the process. In fact, they can’t wait until next time they have such a chance again. They want to give out more flowers!

We all have heard stories where a hero dog saves someone from a fire, or from drowning or helps others in an exceptional way. This short story is based on reality — it happened to one of my coworkers, Andy, or to his cat, to be precise.
Andy had a cute cat as his pet. And now he got a new pet, a little dog. The dog was so adorable that everyone loved him. Everyone wanted to hold him and take him out. He charmed everyone by just loving them with his whole heart. Hard not to like someone who just loves you totally, isn’t it?
However, the cat made it very clear she did not appreciate another pet in the house. She hissed (发嘶嘶声) and tried to scratch the little dog — but the dog just loved the cat anyway. He followed her anywhere, tried to play with her, and tried to lap her up. What a sight it was — the little dog tried to make friends with the angry cat. No amount of bad behavior from the cat could persuade the dog not to love the cat. Andy’s family figured the cat would never like the dog.
A few weeks passed, and the family gradually got used to having both pets, though the cat remained stubborn and distant. She still ignored the dog’ s attempts to befriend her. Then one day Andy and his family heard horrible screaming from their backyard. They ran to the window to see what was happening. They lived in the suburbs, and it took a while for them to believe their eyes. A big lynx (猞猁), which is violent in nature, was on their backyard. And the lynx was just planning on grabbing their cat for lunch. The poor cat had no chance. She was screaming but had nowhere to run or hide. It would only be a matter of seconds and their cat would be dead.

And then the dog made an unimaginable move. Out of nowhere a black lightning ran to the rescue. The little dog was only half-grown but he attacked the lynx with all his might. He did not hesitate or stop to think. He saw his friend in trouble and did what had to be done. He was barking on top of his lungs. He was ready to bite the lynx to pieces. He was intent on chasing the lynx to the ends of the earth. The cat disappeared quicker than the eye could see. The lynx turned toward the dog. The family opened the window, started yelling and ran to the yard. The lynx decided it was time to go and disappeared into the woods.
From that day on, the cat’s behavior toward the dog changed totally. It was the cat that followed the hero dog everywhere and began to actively play with him. When the dog lay down, the cat came to touch his face. What a sight, especially when the dog eventually became much bigger than the cat. They slept in the same basket — the cat between the dog’s front paws. The cat even let the dog eat from her bowl and that was really something, when it came to cats... It was obvious that the cat considered the new family member a hero dog.
