教学过程 Teaching Procedures
1. Lead-in (5 minutes)
Show some pictures of rainstorms and ask students “What do you think of when you see these pictures? What would you do during a rainstorm?” Then play a short audio clip of rainstorm sounds to create an immersive atmosphere and lead in the topic.
2. Pre-listening (10 minutes):
Vocabulary Teaching:
Present the new words and phrases in 1a on the screen with pictures, such as “wood”, “lightning”, “match”, “beat”, “against”. Read them aloud and ask students to repeat. Then have students match the words with the pictures individually and check the answers together.
Sentence Pattern Presentation:
Show some sample sentences like “The rain was beating heavily against the windows.” and “I was doing my homework when the rainstorm came.” Explain the usage of these sentences and how to describe rainstorm situations.
3. While-listening (15 minutes) :
Listening Practice
Play the recording for 1b. Students listen and number the pictures in the correct order. Play it again to check the answers. Then, for 1c, play the recording and students fill in the blanks according to what they hear. After that, check the answers and explain any difficult points.
Pair-work
Students practice reading the conversations in 1c with their partners, paying attention to pronunciation and intonation.
Speaking Practice
Let students look at the pictures in 1d. One student acts as the reporter, and the other acts as a person who experienced the rainstorm. The “reporter” asks questions like “What were you doing when the rainstorm came?” and the other answers based on the pictures. Walk around to offer help and correct mistakes.
4. Post-listening (10 minutes):
Group Discussion
Divide students into groups of 3-4. Each group creates a new dialogue about a different natural disaster (such as a snowstorm or a typhoon). They should use the vocabulary and sentence patterns learned in this class. Then each group presents their dialogue in front of the class.
5. Summary (5 minutes):
Summarize the key vocabulary and sentence patterns learned in this class. Write them on the blackboard.
Recap the importance of using listening strategies and expressing experiences clearly. Encourage students to use English in daily life to describe past events.
作业设计 Homework Design
Record a short audio about your own experience during a rainstorm or other natural disasters, using at least 5 sentences learned in this class.
Search for some English stories or news reports about natural disasters and read them. Underline the sentences related to describing past events.

教学反思
Teaching Reflection
In this class, some students had difficulty understanding new vocabulary during listening, especially words like “lightning” and “match” which are not commonly used in daily conversations. This led to inaccuracies in answering listening questions. During the speaking practice, some students were hesitant to express themselves due to lack of confidence and insufficient language accumulation. Group activities also showed that some groups spent too much time on discussion and didn't have enough time for rehearsal, resulting in less fluent presentations. In future classes, more time should be spent on vocabulary pre-teaching and providing more sentence patterns for students to imitate.
教学评估
Teaching Evaluation
Classroom Observation:Observe students' performance during listening tasks, pair-work, and group-work. Evaluate their listening comprehension, pronunciation, and ability to use target language in conversations.
Homework Assessment:Check students' audio recordings and reading notes to assess their understanding and application of the knowledge learned in this class, as well as their self-learning ability.
