Food Delivery
Estimated pay: varies based on delivery
Delivering for Doordash has become one of the most flexible and easiest part-time jobs you can have these days. Drivers can pick their hours and deliver in their spare time. Pay averages $20-$40/ hour.
Online Surveys
Estimated pay: $1-$5 per survey
Taking online surveys isn’t quite a part-time job, but it is one of the easiest ways to make a little extra money. Surveys help companies improve their products and the overall customer experience, which is why survey companies are willing to pay for your feedback.
Dog Walker & Pet Sitter
Estimated pay: $30 to $70/ day
Finding a trusted pet sitter is crucial if you have pets and want to go out of town, and it’s why you can make $30-$70/ day by pet sitting. Pay for pet sitters varies based on where you live, and you can typically earn on the higher end if you work in a busy urban area or anywhere with a higher cost of living. The same goes for dog walkers who can make $20-$40/hour. You can start finding your first consumers by sharing your services on social media, with friends and family, or by talking to your neighbors.

Amy Purdy’s life has always been about doing the impossible. At 19 years old, Amy started to feel ill. As she felt worse, she thought of it as a flu. But, while taking an afternoon sleep, she suddenly was awake. “I heard a voice telling me to get up and look in the mirror,” she said during an interview with Oprah on her show Super Soul Sunday. “I looked at my reflection in the mirror,” she said, “I saw that my nose and my cheeks were purple… And I knew something was wrong.” Amy got a serious disease. Shortly after she was rushed to the hospital, something terribly wrong was found in her body. Though she was put on life support, doctors said her chance of survival was less than 2%.
After an operation (手术), her body was still in a bad condition and she lost both her legs. But she was alive. The recovery was long and hard. When she felt extremely painful, Amy thought about all the things that she loved, especially her favorite sport, which gave her the strength to hold on.
Amy challenged herself to move forward with her life and achieved goals that even those who have both legs struggle to achieve. Using false legs, Amy relearned how to walk. Within four months, she was back to her favorite sport — snowboarding. She entered her first snowboarding competition just a year after her operation.
Now, Amy Purdy is a New York Times best-selling author, whose works have been translated into 10 different languages. Now Amy is trying her best to help her community and audience live through life’s difficulties.

Are you addicted to computer games?Do you stay up all night playing them?Do you feel happy after you play computer games?
There’s no doubt that the excitement of games these days makes them hard to put down.We are attracted by the choice when it comes to gaming:You can role play —creating your own fantastic characters and stories, giving you a chance to step out of everyday life into an imaginary world. And there are shooting games where you can let out your anger and depression in violent situations where you kill people with guns. You can get excited from the games.
However, can these kinds of games really be fun and can being absorbed in virtual reality be good for us?Should we worry about their effects on our health?Popular games like Grand Theft Auto have been blamed for everything from falling results at school to causing acts of extreme violence.Internet safety adviser,Alan MacKenzie, thinks “any people understandably will just think that a game is just a game, not realizing the exact content that’s in there”.He gives an example of the violence, which he says is “wholly inappropriate for anybody, not to mention children”.
Others will argue that gaming is a harmless form of entertainment. There is evidence that playing video games could actually be good for us.Some games like Game of Thrones and World of Warcraft are educational and using games certainly can help children learn good qualities.Studies have also shown that the skills used in playing games can cause growth in certain areas of the brain, the ability to think in 3D and even improve our eyesight.
Video game players are also no longer just simple creatures. For some, gaming is having a positive effect on their social lives with games like Halo and World of Warcraft often being played in groups. When your group works together to win the game, your sense of achievement is higher than when winning by yourself.
So every coin has two sides. It seems that today gaming isn’t just for game fans and if used in a proper way,we can all take part.If video games have two sides, what side do you stand by?

With all the houses painted in bright colors making each street look like a rainbow, the Venetian Island town of Burano in Italy must be the most colourful in the world.
Burano’s traditional industry is fishing, which used to be its biggest business. As a result, there used to be lots of fishing boats sailing in and out of its harbour (港口) on fishing expeditions (远征). It is said that the population began painting their homes in bright colors so that the fishermen could see them even in thick fog after a sail at sea. Since then, the Italian town has kept up the tradition and continues to paint its houses in a huge variety of different colors.
Lumi Toma a professional photographer, was amazed by the multi coloured island as soon as she set foot on its shore. The 36-year-old said, “With the very first steps on the island I immediately felt a burst of positive energy and a feeling of happiness grew in my heart. It ranks very highly in the world’s most colourful towns.”
According to the photographer, from Aosta in Northern Italy, the town’s unique look is actually the result of a strictly controlled colour plan. She said, “The houses follow a special colour pattern (式样), based on a specific system that has been in place since the village was founded.”
The incredible town is very proud of its brightly coloured heritage. Ms. Tom said, “The people of Burano love their island and want to hold onto their culture, although life on the island is not easy. I imagine that living on a small island next to a famous place like Venice is both rewarding and difficult.”
32. Why did Burano’s locals begin to paint their homes in bright colors?
A. To attract more tourists. B. To make their houses beautiful.
C. To make their culture unique. D. To help fishermen see their homes clearly.
33. How did Lumi Toma feel when she first stepped on the island?

34. What can we learn from the last two paragraphs?
A. The people of Burano live an easy life.
B. Burano’s locals love their island and culture.
C. Ms. Toma hopes to live on the island of Burano.
D. Burano’s people can paint their houses as they wish.
35. What is the passage mainly about?

One day, Emma’s mother brought Emma to her favorite steak house (牛排餐厅). She was excited all the way when she was sitting in her mother’s car. Listening to the wonderful music, she couldn’t help but dance in the back seat. Considering her safety, her mother had to stop her and said, “Hey! My sweety! Please be quiet and fasten your seat belt!”
“Okay! Mom,” she answered while continuing to roll down the car window.
“Emma! Don’t head out of the window! This is very dangerous! No hands either!” Mom raised his voice as she spoke.
She said yes and then quietly sat back in place. But there was no previous happiness. She got off in silence and ordered meals silently. Her mother thought that perhaps her tone had just been too urgent, and she tried to make her happy. “Sweetheart, this is a monthly steak appointment. Can you enjoy it with your mom happily?”
Emma nodded silently but continued to stare out of the window. Ten minutes later Emma looked at the large plate of steak and potatoes as if she had no intention of eating them. Mom sighed and asked, “Isn’t it your favorite steak, sweetheart?” “It is, mom,” Emma said in a low voice. After listening to her answer, Mom brought the steak and planned to help her daughter cut it into small pieces as before.
“No, mom, she quickly reached out for the plate. “I can only eat it once a month, right?” “Yes, we made a promise about this,” said the mother.
“Can I just give it to him?” Emma cautiously asked, and her-eyes filled with expectations. Following the direction of her finger, there was a homeless man in tattered (破烂的) clothes. And she realized that the man was the figure that flashed by the roadside when her daughter leaned out of the window in the car.
“Of course, you can,” her mother agreed.

W: Interesting. I know that in some countries you shouldn’t blow your nose in front of other people.
M: I think that’s not a good custom. I hate it when people do that.
W: It’s a common habit to chew with your mouth open. Luckily, adults rarely do that. It seems that kids grow out of that.
M: Do you often scratch your head when you are thinking?
W: Yes, I do. I wonder why people do that. Oh look, I’m doing it now.
M: I rub my chin when I’m thinking.

【原文】M: I have a question for all of us. Is all winning success? Winning is really, really fun, but I am here to share my idea. Winning does not always equal success. All around the world we have created the “win at all costs” culture. We have become so focused on that end result instead of the process and particularly when the end result is a win.
Real success is developing champions in life for our world. Win or lose, we may be able to plan our way to a win, but we can’t plan our way to success.
Back to 1990 when I was first made the head coach of the UCLA women’s gymnastic team, I acted like a head coach whose only thought was to figure out how to win, so I became tough talking and mean. Our team asked me for a team meeting for over two hours. They gave me examples of how my arrogance was hurtful. Then I chose to change. It is so much easier to give orders than to figure out how to motivate someone to be better.
We all know this motivation takes a really long time to take root. The key to promote motivation is to develop trust through patience and honesty.
We are all coaches in some ways. We all have the responsibility to develop champions in life for our world. This is what real success looks like and that is what we call a win-win.

Amy challenged herself to move forward with her life and achieved goals that even those who have both legs struggle to achieve. Using false legs, Amy relearned how to walk. Within four months, she was back to her favorite sport — snowboarding. She entered her first snowboarding competition just a year after her operation.

Ten minutes later, Emma looked at the large plate of steak and potatoes as if she had no intention of eating them.

【答案】范文
Emma quickly left the table with the full plate of food in hand. As Emma approached the homeless man, her eyes filled with empathy. She greeted him with a warm smile and handed him the plate of food. On receiving the food, the man could hardly conceal his excitement and thanked her joyfully. Meanwhile, Emma sat down beside him, engaging in a heartfelt conservation. Witnessing the moving scene, the mother felt a sense of satisfaction.
As Emma returned, her mother smiled proudly. Moved and delighted, her mother gave her a big hug and praised her for extending a helping hand to the homeless man outside. With another large plate of steak ordered on the table, a surge of happiness and warmth running Emma, she was so relieved that she tasted the steak happily. At that moment, the mother realized that Emma had taught her an invaluable lesson-the joy of giving. While the steak may have been Emma’s favorite, Emma understood the importance of sharing and making a difference in someone else’s life.

We have become so focused on that end result instead of the process, and particularly when the end result is a win, real success is developing champions in life for our world. Win or lose, we may be able to plan our way to a win, but we can plan our way to success. Back to one ninety ninety, when I was first made the head coach of the U. C, L. A women's gymnastic team, I acted like a head coach whose only thought was to figure out how to win. So I became tough talking and mean, our team asked me for a team meeting for over two hours. They gave me examples of how my arrogance was hurtful. Then I chose to change. IT is so much easier to give orders than to figure out how to motivate someone to be Better.
