As we all know, changes are all around us. Whether it is the change of seasons from summer to autumn, or it may even be a change of friendships or schools if you move house or are going to high school in the future.
Changes affect everybody, but we don’t all experience or feel changes in the same way. Some people are as “cool as a cucumber (黄瓜)” and nothing worries them even if the changes are pretty big. Other people can be as “jumpy as a kangaroo (袋鼠)” and can be affected by even the smallest changes.
So, what can you do if you are faced with some changes, and you’re not sure what to do?
Well, it’s important to know that young people are not always ready to deal with changes. That’s because young people’s brains are still growing. Your brain affects your thoughts, big decisions and feelings.
It’s also important for kids to know that it is OK to ask for help from an adult they trust. That may be a parent or grandparent, aunt or uncle, teacher, neighbor or even an older brother or sister.
Changes can sometimes be hard or make you feel worried, but you don’t have to face them alone.

Grandma called me in from the yard. “Would you please go to the store for me, Emma? I’m ready to make cakes, but there aren’t enough eggs. Take 20 dollars from my wallet.” I found Grandma’s wallet and put the money in my pocket.
I arrived at the store soon. “Mr. Jenkins,” I said, “Grandma needs some eggs.” Mr. Jenkins set the eggs on the counter (柜台). He smiled at me. “And what else do you need?” I knew what he meant. I was always allowed to pick a piece of candy when I came to the store with Grandma. “How much change do I have from 20 dollars?” I asked. “Seven dollars.” Mr. Jenkins replied. I thought about that quickly. I was sure Grandma wouldn’t care if I spent two dollars. The longer I looked at the candy display, the more certain I became that I needed two dollars’ worth as a reward for coming to the store alone. And I did so.
“Thank you, Emma,” Grandma said when I laid the eggs on the table. “Did you put the change back in my wallet?” “Yes, Grandma.” I replied, hurrying out to the yard. “I hadn’t really lied to Grandma,” I argued with myself. “I did put back all the change I had.”
But I had spent two dollars without Grandma’s permission (允许). The second piece of candy in my pocket didn’t sound like a good idea any more. I knew I had lied to Grandma, and I was unhappy about it. Grandma is so kind that I couldn’t bear to keep anything from her.
When Grandma took the hot cakes from the oven (烤箱), I told her about the candy. She nodded when I finished my story. “I know just how you feel,” she said. “I’m glad you told me about the dollars. You are an honest kid and of course I’ll forgive you.” Suddenly I felt relaxed as though a big stone was gone from my stomach.

Many inventions from ancient China have survived into the modern day. Among them is the umbrella, which hasn’t changed much in its shape, usage and beauty.
In ancient times, umbrellas were made of materials like silk, paper and bamboo, and came in different colours and designs. They were used to protect people against the sun and rain, and they were also used in some special situations. For example, a red umbrella was used at weddings in some places. It was the symbol of protection against bad things and difficulties that the new couple would face.
In Chinese history, the earliest umbrellas appeared during the Spring and Autumn Period (770—476BC). The wife of famous carpenter Lu Ban made the first umbrella to protect him from bad weather. But another story goes that Lu Ban came up with the idea of creating an umbrella when he saw some children using lotus (荷花) leaves for rain protection.
After the invention of paper, the oil-paper umbrella came into being, and then during the Tang Dynasty, it spread to Japan and Southeast Asian countries. When modern umbrellas appeared, the oil-paper umbrella was hardly seen.
But today, the art of oil-paper umbrella making is making a comeback because of some people. Wen Shishan is one of them. Wen has made oil-paper umbrellas for more than 30 years. 【答案】例文
A Break Full of Smiles
My school breaks are always filled with joy and laughter.
During the ten-minute recess, my classmates and I often play simple but fun games like “Rock, Paper, Scissors” or share funny stories. Sometimes, we challenge each other with riddles, bursting into laughter at the clever answers. On sunny days, I love going to the schoolyard to skip rope with friends. The rhythmic jumping and counting together create such happy moments. Even when I trip, we just laugh it off. These breaks refresh my mind and strengthen our friendships. What I enjoy most are the spontaneous singing sessions. Someone starts humming a popular song, and soon we’re all singing along, forgetting our stress.
These little breaks full of smiles give me energy for the next class and remind me how precious school life is.

21.Everyone may experience or feel changes in the same way.
22.Some people can be affected by the small changes.
23.Young people aren’t always ready to deal with changes because their brains are still growing.

A.Emma often tells lies to her grandma. B.Emma doesn’t like candy at all.
C.Grandma loves Emma so much. D.Emma is a smart girl.

A.Emma put all the change back in the wallet

Many inventions from ancient China have survived into the modern day. Among them is the umbrella, which hasn’t changed much in its shape, usage and beauty.
In ancient times, umbrellas were made of materials like silk, paper and bamboo, and came in different colours and designs.
21.Everyone may experience or feel changes in the same way.
22.Some people can be affected by the small changes.

33.How did Emma feel after she lied to Grandma?
A.Unhappy. B.Glad. C.Nervous. D.Relaxed.
34.What can we infer from the passage?
A.Emma often tells lies to her grandma. B.Emma doesn’t like candy at all.
C.Grandma loves Emma so much. D.Emma is a smart girl.
35.Emma’s grandma forgave her at last because ________.
A.Emma put all the change back in the wallet
B.Emma should get a reward for going to the store
C.Emma loved Grandma so much and did something to help her
D.Emma told Grandma the truth and showed her honesty
