Have you ever made a quick decision you later regretted? Yeah, me too. Before that, I thought“Wow, I'm a human supercomputer!”, but shortly after the decision,I realized it might have been one of my worst ideas ever. That's the beauty and the problem of how our minds work, as clearly explained by Daniel Kahneman in his bestselling book Thinking,Fast and Slow, published in 2011. It's an interesting exploration(探索)into the way we make decisions.
Daniel Kahneman, a well-known psychologist (心理学家) and Nobel Prize winner, uses simple examples to show two ways our brains think. When you see a snake, you might jump back without thinking. This is System l—a fast, automatic(自动的) way of thinking. It works quickly and without much effort. But when you work out a math problem or plan a trip, you need to turn to System 2,a slow, careful way of thinking.
This book helps us understand why we sometimes make mistakes. For example,if a shop says a shirt is“50% off from 100,” we think 50 is a good price, but maybe the real price was lower. This is the“anchorıng effeet” that the first information we hear influence our choice. So Kahneman suggests slowing down and using System 2to avoid mistakes when making important decisions.
Thinking, Fast and Slow is not just for scientists. It is useful for everyone.Although some ideas are challenging, the clear examples explain big ideas. By learning about these thinking habits, you can make wiser choices. As Kahneman says, “Understanding our mistakes is the first step to avoiding them.”
23. Which of the following is the example of System 1?
A. Solving geography problems.
B. Comparing to get budget-friendly phones.
C. Feeling scared when seeing a spider.
24. What does the“anchoring effect” mean in Paragraph 3?
A. People are influenced by the first information they hear.
B. People don't take the first information seriously.
C. People always make correct decisions without thinking.
25. What do you know about the book Thinking, Fast and Slow?
A. It discusses three ways human thinks.
B. It helps people to make wiser decisions.
C. It uses difficult examples to explain ideas.
26. What's the author's attitude towards the book Thinking, Fast and Slow?
A. Supportive. B. Doubtful. C. Unclear.
C
At first look, it seems to be Johannes Vermeer's work“Girl with a Pearl Earring”. But a closer look and you may find something different about it.There are two shining earrings and a little unusual shadow(阴影) of red on the girl's face.
Look strange? It's actually a picture made by aDutch designer Julian Van Dieken who used artificial intelligence(AI). Among 3,482 pictures which were created based on Johannes Vermeer's work, this AI-generated (生成)work was chosen to show, in the Mauritshuis museum in the Netherlands.
“One of the most famous paintings in history is being replaced by one of my AIpictures,” Van Dicken wrote on Instagram. He said that the experience was“crazy”and“unreal”
However, the AI picture caused wide discussion. Though the press officer(新闻发言人) of the Mauritshuis museum, Boris de Munnick, said that“it's a nice and creative way of making it”, many people questioned whether it could be called art and be shown in the museum, reported AFP.
Dutch artist lris Compiet described the picture on show as “something unexpected”, AFP noted. She added that“it's an insult to the works of Vermeer and also to any working artist. Knowing that it was shown in a museum, I feel that it's a real slap(掌掴) in the face.”
In fact, this is not the first time people have discussed the use of AI. As Taylor Michael explained, some worry AI art breaks copyright laws(版权法). Artists sar these tools use their works without permission(允许). Also the increasing use of AI in creative works may do harm to the development of art.
27. What do you know about the picture made by Julian Van Dieken?
A. It looks the same as Johannes Vermeer's work.
B. It's an AI artwork on show in a museum.
C. It was made by mixing 3,482 pictures together.
28. How did Mauritshuis museum like the AI picture?
A. Unreal. B. Crazy. C. Creative.
29. Which is close to the underlined word“insult” in meaning in Paragraph 5?
A.忽略 B.冒犯 C.抛弃
30. What is the main topic of the passage?
A. The different opinions about AI artworks.
B. The problems and future of AI artworks.
C. The advantage of AI artworks on the art market.

If you asked me to list one thing that helped me most to keep fit, it would certainly be exercise.
Before I entered university, I spent most of my time studying, like many of my friends. I remember that in high school,I avoided PE classes to study for exams in the classroom. Sports weren't part of the university entrance exams, so the school and students paid little attention to them. In my early 20s, I had no idea about basic fitness or physical skills. In the university,I was close to failing the 800-meter run test. WhenI started working, “I'm too busy” became a good excuse to avoid exercise.
My skin turned a pale yellow. I put on weight as I grew older, hitting almost 65kilograms. Then I always felt tired and uneasy, even if I had slept for 10 hours. Ibelieve this had something to do with the no-exercise habit, because all those problems have disappeared since I started eating healthily and working out often.
Since 2019, I' ve run at least twice a week and usually practiced yoga. The improvements came slowly but surely—I had more energy, my skin looked healthier, and I felt more energetic. Fitness also helped me connect with others. When I share the benefits(益处) of exercise, I feel I get more than I give. Exercise isn't just about looking good; it's about . You don't need to train like an athlete— just start from small things, keep exercising, and enjoy the journey of being a healthier and happier you!
